Land of Oz…Justin Allgaier will be making his second start at Kansas Speedway this weekend in the 5-hour ENERGY 400. Kansas is one of four tracks Allgaier raced the No. 51 BRANDT Chevy at in 2013. In his first race at the 1.5-mile track, Allgaier started 21st, his best career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) start to date, but finished 39th after being involved in an accident. Allgaier and the No. 51 BRANDT team participated in a Goodyear tire test last month at Kansas. In addition to his previous NSCS start, Allgaier has five NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) career starts at Kansas with four top-10 finishes.

See Justin…On Friday, May 9 at 4:30 p.m. CDT, Allgaier will appear at the Sprint Experience, located in the Kansas Fan Zone, for a Q&A.

Talladega Recap…Allgaier made his second NSCS start at Talladega Superspeedway last Sunday. The No. 51 BRANDT Chevy finished the first practice session in second and qualified 38th for the Aaron’s 499. After running as high as second in the 188-lap race, Allgaier finished 27th in the BRANDT Chevy for HScott Motorsports after being involved in an accident coming to the white flag.

Sunoco Rookie of the Year…After graduating to the NSCS this season, Allgaier is competing for Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors in the No. 51 BRANDT Chevy. In 2009, Allgaier took home the Rookie of the Year title in the NNS. After Talladega, Allgaier is currently third in the standings, behind Kyle Larson and Austin Dillon.

Justin Allgaier on Kansas Speedway:

“I’m ready to get to Kansas [Speedway]. It’s one of the few tracks that I’m starting at for a second time, which is great for a rookie like myself. We were fortunate to be part of the Goodyear tire test back in April, so that gave me even more seat time. Goodyear is bringing a different tire than we tested, but the track time is huge for me. It has been a couple of years since the repave at Kansas, and I really like the way the track is maturing. It’s also the first time for a night race at the track. Overall, we just need to be smooth this weekend and we will be fine.”

Crew Chief Steve Addington on Kansas Speedway:

“We tested with Goodyear at Kansas [Speedway] in April, so we have a lot of information going into this weekend. The test gave Justin more track time and he was in a Cup car at Kansas last year, so he’s had opportunity to really learn the track in this style of car. We’ve really hit on some momentum at HScott the past few weeks and hope that continues this weekend.”
