Ty Dillon Finishes 25th in Sprint Cup Series Debut at Atlanta Motor Speedway

Ty Dillon drove the Circle Sport Racing No. 33 Realtree/Rheem Chevrolet SS to a 25th-place finish Sunday night in the Oral-B USA 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The 22-year-old driver, making his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series debut, started from the 29th position. Dillon quickly found himself a lap down after battling loose-handling conditions on the race’s initial green-flag run. Dillon and crew chief Nick Harrison worked on a strategy on how to keep the No. 33 Chevrolet inside the top-25. Harrison’s pit crew contributed to the team’s improving track position, along with track bar and air pressure adjustments on laps 78 and 117. On lap 209, the No. 33 driver came in for a four-tire and fuel pit stop. On the ensuing green-flag restart, Dillon reported his Chevrolet SS was becoming very difficult to handle since the track created a much tighter race car. Consequently, Dillon fell to 27th-place, three laps behind the leader. Harrison and Dillon battled the remainder of the 325-lap affair inside the top-25. In the end, the race was extended to two green-white checkered finishes where Dillon was able to race his way to a 25th-place finish.

TY DILLON QUOTE:

“Overall, I’m happy with our performance tonight in my Sprint Cup Series debut. Nick (Harrison, crew chief) and the guys did a great job keeping this No. 33 Realtree/Rheem Chevy dialed in. We got a little tight there toward the end of the race, but we battled and got a 25th-place finish. I can’t thank everyone enough for their support this entire weekend. Thanks to Circle Sport Racing, Rheem and Realtree for making this night so special.”
