Tyler Hawn finishes 11th in Autumn Colors Classic at Peterborough

PETERBOROUGH, OntarioTyler Hawn would survive the Autumn Colors Classic by avoiding the majority of the trouble en route to posting a solid 11th place finish to complete the 2014 OSCAAR Super Late Model season.

Hawn started off the weekend on a not-so-positive note as he’d have some contact with Shane Gowan in his first heat, resulting in him being one of the three drivers caught up in the small pile-up. With minimal damage, Hawn was able to continue, finishing fourth. He would then finish third in his second heat, setting him up for a 12th place starting spot in the feature.

The feature wouldn’t start off as Hawn hoped for, either, as he would fall back to 18th on lap three en route to trying to get through a wreck involving Craig Stevenson, Dave Doucette and Paul Harris. He would move up to the 17th spot before the caution flew for the second time on lap 17. The restart brought forth close racing, and an extremely close-call as Hawn almost got caught up in the ‘big one’ of the event. On lap 20, J.R. Fitzpatrick had his shifter break, resulting in a seven-car pile-up. Hawn would escape the turn one corner without damage, moving up to 15th.

Hawn would continue to look for ways to gain ground, though would experience some problems of his own on lap 26 when he would overshoot turn one, going off into the opening. He would get the super late slowly quickly, able to turn around and rejoin the field for the restart in the 16th spot.

Hawn would keep up his duty of avoiding trouble, escaping a wreck with four laps to go to move up to the 12th spot. He would then get by Robert Bickle on the restart to post a solid 11th place finish.

As a result of his solid season all year long, Hawn will finish the 2014 OSCAAR season in the ninth spot in points, despite missing the first two events of the season.
