Red Horse Racing at Homestead-Miami Speedway

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series returned for its annual visit to Homestead-Miami Speedway for the season finale event. Both Red Horse Racing Trucks posted top-10 speeds during the first practice session at the 1.5-mile race track on Thursday afternoon, and returned to the southern Florida facility on Friday for knock-out qualifying. The Nos. 17 and 77 teams advanced to the second round where Timothy Peters earned the 15th starting position, and Quiroga the 22nd. After 134 laps of action under the lights, Peters took the checkered flag in third, earning both his and Red Horse Racing’s best finish at Homestead-Miami Speedway. He also finished fifth in the Camping World Truck Series driver championship point standings. Quiroga earned a 15th-place result and moved to sixth in the final point standings.

Timothy Peters Records Best Finish of Third at Homestead-Miami Speedway

Timothy Peters started the NASCAR 200 from the 15th position, and drove his way forward to finish third in Friday night’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. On Thursday, November 13 Peters turned the 10th and 11th-quickest laps, respectively, in two practice sessions. The No. 17 Red Horse Racing team returned the following day and earned the 15th-starting position in knockout qualifying. After the sun set over the 1.5-mile Homestead, Florida race track, Peters climbed into the red and white Toyota Tundra for the final race of the 2014 season. After the green flag flew he quickly drove into the top 10; however, he reported a loose-handling condition that was preventing him from exiting the turns aggressively. While under the yellow flag, he came to pit road on laps 25 and 100, each time for four Goodyear tires, a full tank of Sunoco fuel, and slight adjustments. With the truck’s balance improved, Peters was able to break into the top five and run faster lap times than the leaders. Despite still being a little too loose early in a green-flag run, the No. 17 would jump to life after a few laps. Peters powered to a third-place finish to close out the 2014 Camping World Truck Series season, earning his ninth top-five and 13th top-10 result of the year. The Danville, Virginia resident concluded his sixth season of full-time competition in the Camping World Truck Series ranked fifth in the driver championship point standings.

Timothy Peters Quotes:

“Finishing third at Homestead (Miami Speedway) is a great way to end our year. This team did a great job and really clicked the second half of the season, and now we have great momentum heading into next year. A good finish in the last race gives the entire organization a boost going into the off season.”

If we had had a few more laps, I think we would have caught the Nos. 54 (Bubba Wallace) and 42 (Kyle Larson). Our lap times were better, and they were busy racing each other hard for the lead. I am so proud of this team and grateful for the opportunity that Tom DeLoach has given me. I am already excited for next year.”

Germán Quiroga Finishes 2014 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Sixth in Driver Points; Highest Finish for a Latin American Driver in a National Series

Germán Quiroga and the No. 77 OtterBox Toyota Tundra team arrived at Homestead-Miami Speedway eager to end the 2014 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series on a high note. The team was quick during the first practice session, finishing fifth, but worked to find speed during the second practice. The team returned to the Homestead, Florida race track for the final round of knock-out qualifying of the season. The No. 77 team advanced to the second round of qualifying where they qualified in the 22nd position for the NASCAR 200. When the green flag was displayed at the 1.5-mile race track, Quiroga commented to his crew chief that he was battling a loose-handling Toyota Tundra. The crew worked hard during scheduled pits stops throughout the race to improve the handling, making wedge and track bar adjustments. Quiroga found himself as high as ninth during the race, but was marked in the 15th-position when the checkered flag was displayed. The Mexico City native finished the season sixth in the driver points standings, with three top-five and 10 top-10 finishes. This marks the highest finish for a Latin American driver in a national series of NASCAR.
