OSCAAR Releases Complete 2015 Schedule

PETERBOROUGH (December 16, 2014) – Over the last quarter-century, OSCAAR Racing has thrilled thousands of stock car fans across Ontario with entertaining stock car action. The 2015 season marks OSCAAR’s 25th anniversary and one of its most aggressive schedules to date.

The addition of the OSCAAR Midgets to a brand that already includes Super Late Models and Open-Wheel Modifieds, OSCAAR Racing is the largest sanctioning body for stock car racing in Canada. The 2015 schedule will take this new triple threat of OSCAAR Racing to every track in Southern Ontario.

The OSCAAR Super Late Models will once again be the headline tour in Ontario, stopping at six different tracks for 13 races. The OSCAAR Modifieds will run 14 events at seven facilities. A 15-race schedule is set for the inaugural OSCAAR Midgets season, which will see drivers pay visit to seven facilities of their own.

The season will kick off with a double-header weekend at Sunset Speedway on May 16-17, 2015. On Saturday May 16, the OSCAAR Midgets and Modifieds will put on full shows with 25- and 30-lap features, respectively. The OSCAAR Super Late Models will qualify on Saturday for the third annual 50-lap Lucie Aylwin Memorial set for Sunday, May 17.

The Super Late Models schedule is once again headlined by the Velocity 250 event at Sunset on September 26-27 and the 23rd annual Autumn Colours Classic at Peterborough Speedway October 9-11. Planning for the series’ flagship Don Biederman Memorial event remains in the works and details will be announced at a later date. In all, Super Late Models will visit Sunset a total of five times, Peterborough three times, Flamboro Speedway twice, and each of Barrie Speedway, Sauble Speedway, and Delaware Speedway once.

All the stars of the OSCAAR Super Late Model tour will be back in action in 2015, including defending champion Andrew Gresel, five-time champion Glenn Watson, Kevin Cornelius, Mike Beyore, Kelly Balson, Rob Poole, and Tyler Hawn to name a few. To date, former Limited Late Model competitor Sean Grosman is the only driver registered to compete for Rookie-of-the-Year honours.

The OSCAAR Modifieds will continue to build on three seasons of success next summer. The Mods will be on center stage for their 50-lap Rick Woolner Memorial when it returns to its birthplace, Full Throttle Speedway (formerly Varney Motor Speedway), on September 12, 2014. The series will also compete at Sunset’s Velocity 250 and Peterborough’s Autumn Colours Classic. The series will run a 14-race schedule spanning seven tracks.

At the time of publication, an impressive 12 drivers have registered to chase Rookie-of-the-Year honours. The list includes former Supermodified competitor Mark Van Luven, former Delaware Super Stock driver Jeff Showler, former Delaware Late Model driver Jay Christie, former Peterborough thunder car competitors Dan Price and John Baker Jr., and former Peterborough Late Model pilot Corey Horner. Also registered is former Can-Am TQ Midgets pilot and president David Balych, Mark Saul, Joey Sagan, Mike Hearty, and Chris Bowman.

In addition to a wealth of new talent, the series expects three-time defending champion Gary McLean to return alongside young talents Davey Terry, Matt Barton, Brent McLean, Dustin Jackson and Shane Stickel. Veteran drivers Gary Elliott, and Max Beyore are all in the mix to contend for a 2015 championship, to name just a few.

The OSCAAR Midgets will compete in their inaugural season under OSCAAR sanctioning. Formerly the Hurricane Midgets, the series will visit a total of seven tracks for 15 different events across Ontario. A visit to the Grand Bend Speedway highlights the schedule for the Midgets, alongside a pair of trips to Sauble, Flamboro, and Full Throttle. The Midgets will run alongside the OSCAAR Modifieds in September.

Jamie Bound is expected to return to defend his championship against series mainstays Richard Woodland, James Rodgers, Robin McLean, and Rob McCall. As many as 10 drivers are currently registered with rookie status for the inaugural OSCAAR Midgets season.
