Martin Out as Driver Development Coach at Roush Fenway Racing

Mark Martin, a 40-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race winner, revealed in a tweet Friday morning that he would not be returning as the Roush Fenway Racing team’s driver development coach for the 2015 season. When asked on twitter if he would continue to work with Roush drivers this year, he simply replied, “No.”

Martin was the first driver hired by team owner Jack Roush when he founded his NASCAR operation in 1988.

Together, the duo accumulated 83 NASCAR victories, four Sprint Cup Series championship runner-up finishes, forming the winningest team in NASCAR history.

Martin’s return to Roush Fenway Racing was made official 31 July 2014, which means that this most recent stint with the organization that gave him his start, lasted about six months.

Martin went into more detail on twitter about his departure from RFR the following day stating, “I didn’t want to go to the races. I’ve done enough of that for now. Except for dirt track.”
