INDYCAR confirms no changes to upcoming aero kit testing regulations

INDIANAPOLIS (February 10, 2015) – INDYCAR announced today that testing regulations would remain as published in the Verizon IndyCar Series rulebook, withMarch 13 designated the opening of team on-track and wind tunnel testing of the full-size Chevrolet and Honda road/street course and short oval aerodynamic bodywork kits.

INDYCAR last week confirmed that there would not be a substitute race for the cancelled event in Brasilia, Brazil, which was scheduled for March 8.

A Promoter Test is scheduled for March 16-17 at Barber Motorsports Park, and the season-opening Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg on March 27-29 will mark the competition debut of the aero kits.

March 1 is the deadline for Verizon IndyCar Series teams to take delivery of their corresponding Chevrolet or Honda road/street course and short oval packages. April 1 is the deadline for delivery of the speedway aero kits.

A Promoter Test also is scheduled March 27 on the St. Petersburg 1.8-mile, 14-turn temporary street course. In-season Promoter Tests are scheduled in conjunction with race weekends at NOLA Motorsports Park (April 10), Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course (May 7) and Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course (July 31).

Additionally, a Promoter Test is scheduled for May 3 on the 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval for the debut of the speedway aero kits. The first practice session for the 99th Indianapolis 500 Mile Race is May 11.

In light of the scheduled March 8 race cancellation, INDYCAR also updated the designation of the 2015 season start in the Verizon IndyCar Series rulebook to March 6. It provides teams and manufacturers a benchmark for engine mileage allotted to full-season entrants from the start of the 2015 season start to the start of the 2016 season.

An entrant is allotted a maximum of 10,000 miles for use in all team tests, Promoter Tests and race events during that span. Testing mileage accrued through March 5 will come from each entrant’s remaining allocation from the 2014 race season.
