KURT BUSCH (No. 22 Shell/Pennzoil Dodge Charger R/T) Finished 18th “Man, a busy day with the Shell/Pennzoil Dodge today. Restrictor plate racing and this two-car draft is really tough and I was in the middle of a bunch of incidents. I feel bad for wrecking a bunch of cars, especially my teammate Brad (Keselowski). We got shuffled out to finish 18th. I ran with the 20 (Joey Logano), 36 (Dave Blaney) and then the 14 (Tony Stewart) at the end and just got separated a bit and shuffled back.
“My car was really fast all day getting pushed. Once I had to push, the car didn’t seem as stable as I needed it to be. Frustrating. We ran up front most of the day and didn’t get the finish I think that we deserved.”
WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE BLANEY SPIN? “Same thing. Bump-drafting and guys get sideways.”
IS THAT THE WAY THAT THESE RACES ARE GOING TO BE? “Yep, until we fix it.”
ROBBY GORDON (No. 7 Fast Five / SPEED Energy Dodge Charger R/T) Finished 20th “We were a better pusher than leader. We needed another Dodge to run with at the end of the day. With Brad (Keselowski) going out early, that was one less Dodge and I could never get to Kurt (Busch). A top-20 for the Fast Five Dodge, it was a decent run for us and we’ll take it, but it’s not really where we wanted to be.”
BRAD KESELOWSKI (No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge Charger R/T) Finished 33rd WHAT HAPPENED TO CAUSE THE WRECK? “”It was just one of those Talladega deals. We were able to get our Dodges together and drive our way up to the front. We made some great moves, but got towards the back in the shuffle and when we did, we caught a big group that just stopped for some reason. I heard that David Ragan blew up, I’m not exactly sure. We ran up on the group and I just wasn’t able to stop quick enough with Kurt (Busch) on my tail and it just spun me right out. Just one of them deals here at Talladega. It’s just racing. I just got on the wrong end of it.”
WAS IT AVOIDABLE? “Everything is avoidable. You can always slow down. It’s more like unpredictable.”
HOW HARD IS IT TO COMMUNICATE WHEN THERE IS A PROBLEM? “It just happens so fast that you can’t communicate things quick enough. You’re talking about split-second decisions that are now slowed down by split-second conversations. It’s just hard to get it all done.”
WAS THE PLAN FOR YOU AND KURT TO RUN TOGETHER THE REST OF THE RACE? “I’d like too, but as you can see not everyone is on the race track that you want to work with.”
COULD KURT HAVE DONE ANYTHING TO AVIOD RUNNING INTO YOU? “He could of maybe checked up earlier, but it happens so quick that it’s really hard to judge sometimes.”
