Layne Riggs notches fifth Truck pole of 2026 at Phoenix

Layne Riggs won the pole position for the Zero Carbon Bioethanol 150 at Phoenix Raceway in Avondale, Arizona, on Friday, October 16.

The event’s starting lineup was determined through an on-track qualifying session that consisted of a single-truck, one-lap qualifying format. During the session, each of the 36 competitors vying for 36 starting spots cycled around Phoenix once to post the fastest lap amongst one another. The competitor who posted the single fastest lap was awarded the pole position.

During the session, Riggs, who was the 20th-fastest competitor during practice earlier on Friday and was the final competitor in line to qualify, utilized his one-lap qualifying session to post a lap at 133.141 mph in 27.039 seconds. Riggs’ lap was enough for the 24-year-old Bahama, North Carolina, native and driver of the No. 34 Love’s/Front Row Motorsports Ford F-150 entry to secure the top-starting spot.

With the pole, Riggs notched his ninth NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series career pole, his second at Phoenix Raceway and his fifth of the 2026 season. Riggs, who is coming off last weekend’s victory at Charlotte Motor Speedway, is currently ranked in the runner-up spot in the Chase standings. He trails points leader Kaden Honeycutt by 17 points as he has four races remaining on the schedule, including this weekend at Phoenix, to reel in Honeycutt and contend for his first series’ championship.

Ironically, Riggs will share the front row with Honeycutt, the latter of whom was the fastest in practice and qualified in second place at 132.382 mph in 27.194 seconds. Chandler Smith, Landen Lewis and Ben Rhodes will start in the top five, respectively. Ty Majeski, Tristan McKee, Tanner Gray, William Sawalich and Connor Mosack will start in the top 10, respectively.

With five of 10 Chase contenders (Riggs, Honeycutt, Smith, Rhodes, Majeski) starting in the top-10 mark at Phoenix, the remaining Chasers that include Christian Eckes, Grant Enfinger, Giovanni Ruggiero, Daniel Hemric and Tyler Ankrum will start 13th, 15th, 16th, 18th and 21st, respectively.

With 36 competitors vying for 36 starting spots, all made the main event.
