CONCORD, N.C. (May 24, 2015) – Trevor Bayne, driver of the No. 6 AdvoCare Ford Fusion, finished in the 27th position on Sundayevening in NASCAR’s longest race of the season at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
“We fought hard tonight,” said Bayne after the race. “This AdvoCare Ford was tight all race long but we never gave up. I want to thank (crew chief) Bob (Osborne) and everyone on this team for everything they did today. It’s on to Dover.”
Bayne began Sunday night’s 600-mile event from the 27th position, but sustained damage to the right-side of the No. 6 AdvoCare Ford on the third lap after making contact with the outside retaining wall, shuffling him back to the 32nd position. Bayne would maintain his track position until the Lap 25 competition caution, which gave crew chief Bob Osborne an opportunity to work on the handling of the Roush Fenway Ford.
Returning to the track in 34th, the Knoxville, Tenn. native reported that the tight-handling condition persisted, ultimately costing Bayne a lap to the race leaders during the ensuing green flag run. Bayne was able to earn his lap back, however, after a caution came out following the first round of green flag pit stops, giving Bayne the opportunity to take the wave around to get back on the lead lap.
Despite being back on the lead lap, Bayne reported that he was still too tight in the center of the corner and once again lost a lap to the race leaders during the second long green-flag run of the evening. Although the tight-handling condition remained, Bayne was able to improve to the 29th position just past the halfway mark of the race.
Utilizing a “never give up” attitude, Bayne was able to continue to move forward, working his way up to the 25th position just past the 300-Lap mark. He would maintain his position until the final round of green flag pit stops began on Lap 385, which shuffled Bayne back out of the top 25. In the end, Bayne would take the checkered flag in the 27th position.
Next week the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series heads to “The Monster Mile” Dover International Speedway.
