Graham Rahal's surge in the second half of the Verizon IndyCar Series season continued with an emphatic victory in the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio. In his final NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Pocono Raceway, Jeff Gordon improved his chances for championship playoffs with a solid third place finish in his No. 24 AARP Member Advantages Chevrolet SS. Gordon slipped into the top-five and then into third as several race leaders ran out of fuel with less than three laps to go at the 2.5- mile track dubbed the “Tricky Triangle”. It was Gordon’s 32nd top-ten finish at Pocono, and moved him to 10th in the overall point standings with just five races before the cut-off to the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.
