On the heels of their dramatic ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season opening victory at Daytona, Venturini Motorsports (VMS) shifted gears and turned their attention to short track racing this weekend at Mobile International Speedway.
KASEY KAHNE, NO. 5 FARMERS INSURANCE CHEVROLET SS – FINISHED SECOND - TALK ABOUT THE BATTLE AT THE END OF THE RACE WITH MATT KENSETH: “I had an unbelievable Farmers Insurance Chevrolet. Throughout the whole race the pit stops were great. We just came out sixth there which I think Matt (Kenseth) would have beat us out anyways because he didn’t take tires."
“Never ever give up. Never give up. This team doesn’t and we didn’t today. You get a good run like we did and that is a product of that effort. I thought we had some really good speed there at the end. I almost want another yellow to race the 5 and the 20. Matt (Kenseth) did a great job executing the restarts really well. We were so close.”
Roush Fenway Racing’s (RFR) Travis Pastrana, matched his career-best finish of 10th, Saturday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS), overcoming a 31st starting position. The finish moved Pastrana up four spots to 11th in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) points standings.
Coming off his first NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) victory of 2013, Kyle Busch continued a strong season start on Saturday by earning a second-place finish at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway, a track he calls “home.” The second-place result by Busch tied his best NNS performance at the 1.5-mile desert facility – equaling a runner-up result in 2007. He also has one NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) victory at Las Vegas in 2009.
SAM HORNISH JR., No. 12 Wurth Ford Mustang – TALK ABOUT HOW IT FEELS TO WIN HERE AT LAS VEGAS. “It feels great to win here. I didn’t even realize it was the Sam’s Town 300 until this morning at the drivers meeting. I said, ‘That is a pretty good one for me to win. I already have my name on the trophy.’ We had a great car all day long. From about the third lap of practice I knew we had a pretty good piece and made some small adjustments to it throughout practice and a little bit for the race and the car was real good."
Grant Enfinger used a rocket re-start with fewer than 30 laps remaining and held off a late challenge from Kyle Benjamin Saturday afternoon to win the ARCA Mobile 200.
Roush Fenway drivers Trevor Bayne and Travis Pastrana finished fourth and 10th respectively in Saturday’s Nationwide Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The finishes marked the 31st and 32nd NNS top-10 finishes in 42 series starts at LVMS for RFR.
