Buescher Finishes 15th in Wild Ending in Loudon

Fastenal Ford Earns 14th Top-15 Result of Season

LOUDON, N.H. (July 17, 2023) – Chris Buescher and the No. 17 Fastenal team put together another solid effort and result in Monday’s postponed race from New Hampshire Motor Speedway, finishing 15th after a chaotic ending.

Monday’s race was postponed from Sunday’s slot after persistent rains in the New England area. Buescher began the day from the 26th position, but wasted no time rising from there, spending more than half of the afternoon inside the top-15.

Following a fairly uneventful stage one that saw just one caution and Buescher finish 17th, the No. 17 had to overcome a loose wheel midway through stage two. He did just that, though, driving back to a 14th-place finish by the stage two end at lap 185.

A long, green-flag run of 70+ laps allowed the field to spread out early in stage three, but three cautions would fly over the final 31 laps. Buescher sat 13th at the time of the first, and with varying strategies in play, pitted under the caution for the final time on the day.

The second caution was displayed with 20 to go, this time from the No. 48 just in front of the No. 17. Buescher had to check up to avoid him and was unfortunately scored 18th, not the position he was running when the 48 went spinning.

Despite the setback, Buescher overcame in the final 11 laps to battle back to 15th, his 14th top-15 result of the season.

JOEY LOGANO, No. 22 Shell Pennzoil Ford Mustang – HOW MANY TOOLS IN YOUR TOOLBOX DID YOU TRY TO PULL OUT TO GET THE WIN? “I needed to go back to the store to get more tools. Not enough of them to beat the No. 19. They were fast. Gosh, I thought I had a shot to beat him right before the first caution after we put tires on – so two cautions to the end. I had a chance to roll to his outside there, right before the caution came out. That would have been my chance – if I got in front of him, I think I had him beat. But, you have to get in front of him. He just seemed to refire better the next two runs. He didn’t refire on new tires that well, but the next two he refired pretty quickly. It’s just when you’re at your home racetrack, second hurts… more than anywhere else. There is no place where I want to win more than here, and came up one spot short. That one stings, but overall I guess you still have to say it was a good day. Just mad right now.”

KEVIN HARVICK, No. 4 Busch Light Ford Mustang – “We knew we just had to get rolling on the old tires. Just rolled the bottom. Probably should have rolled the fourth lane instead of the third lane, but still a decent day. We’ll keep plugging along. This had just been a great racetrack for us – another top-five. These tracks and these fans here, especially, have been so good to me throughout the years. It’s always fun to come here.”

BRAD KESELOWSKI, No. 6 BuildSubmarines.com Ford Mustang – “There were a handful of cars that were really just good on the short runs – we were one of them – and some that were really good on the long run than the short run. Just have to capitalize. You saw that on the restarts, where they got really wild – three and four wide. We were able to capitalize. We’re clawing – just clawing. We know we’re not fast enough on these types of tracks to win, but we’re getting everything we can out of these days.”

CHASE BRISCOE, No. 14 Mobil 1 Gen G Ford Mustang – “Out of the last two or three months, it feels like a win – truthfully. At the start of the race, we weren’t really great by any means. But I said a couple weeks ago coming over here that it’s going to take awhile to figure out these cars – to learn these cars, what adjustments make the most sense and kind of what my baseline is. I felt like right there at the end, we were a seventh place car, but if we could have started the weekend there, then maybe we could have been battling for the win. So, we’re just making small steps right now and honestly to run 10th, it feels like a win – especially here. This is by far my worst racetrack. Hopefully we can continue on this. We just needed it honestly – something good to happen to us so we can get some momentum. Hopefully, this will kind of kickstart us in the right direction. Pocono is kind of the question mark just for how we’ve been running on the big tracks. Hopefully we can go there and have a good run.”

TEAM CHEVY POST-RACE QUOTES:

Austin Dillon, No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Club Camaro ZL1

Finished: 9th

“Our No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Club Chevy team fought really hard today. We didn’t have the greatest balance, but when the track changed, the car came to us a little bit and we were able to make something out of it with strategy and having a good Chevy on the long run. It was a good fight.”

Kyle Larson, No. 5 Valvoline Camaro ZL1

Finished: 3rd

What more did you need at the finish?

“Overall, it was a great race for the No. 5 Valvoline Chevy team. Honestly, I’m not sure how much work we had to do to the car. I think we were pretty good the whole race. The initial start didn’t work out and we just got stuck on the bottom. At the end of Stage One, we were able to work our way up, and then Stage Two went well. The Final Stage went good, as well. The No. 19 (Martin Truex Jr.) was the class of the field – he definitely had the car to beat. I was hoping that maybe we could get to second. It looked like his car was so good that he didn’t have to run all the way up the race track. So I was hoping if we ever got to second, we could get a shot. But it seemed like he adapted well and was able to hold off Joey (Logano). It would have been tough to get by him.

All-in-all, I felt great about my car. I think we probably had overall a third or fourth-place car, and we ended up third with it. Thank you to HENDRICKCARS.COM, Chevrolet, and to Valvoline for being on the car as a primary this week, and everyone that helps us get out on the race track each week.”

Kyle Busch, No. 8 Lenovo Camaro ZL1

Sidelined by damage sustained after making contact with the wall in Stage One.

Finished: 36th

We knew you were struggling, but it was weird to us. Was there something on the track?

“No, I’ve been lacking right-rear grip the whole time we’ve been here. Just couldn’t get the right-rear feel in the race track. You’re just going along trying to keep it under you as much as you can. It was getting late in the run, and I was trying a different line and it was just too high. I didn’t like to be that high on entry. I couldn’t give it wheel and have the right-rear stick with the lateral grip that you need.

Hate it for our No. 8 Lenovo Chevy team. Our Chevy stuff was a little off this week, at least for us anyways. We’ll get back to it at Pocono (Raceway).”

AJ Allmendinger, No. 16 Nutrien Ag Solutions Camaro ZL1

Finished: 19th

“Today wasn’t our day in New Hampshire. We struggled really bad in traffic all day and just couldn’t get the right adjustments to help the handling of our No. 16 Nutrien Ag Solutions Chevy. We’re definitely disappointed with our run today but we’re moving on to Pocono.”

Justin Haley, No. 31 Campers Inn RV Camaro ZL1

Finished: 17th

“We struggled the most in traffic in our No. 31 Chevy and lacked stability in the right rear. Track position was key, which made it hard to make too many adjustments for fear of losing that track position. We fought hard on that last run, and I feel like we got the most we could out of the day. Overall, I do feel like we learned quite a bit this weekend at a place that is usually one of my weaker tracks. Time to get back to work. “

Erik Jones, No. 43 Allegiant Camaro ZL1

Finished: 11th

“It was an up-and-down day for the No. 43 Allegiant Chevy team. Just started out way deep in the field and had to work our way forward. We got our Chevy better throughout the day. We had one bad run, but fortunately we ran long and ended up on the good side of it. We got some track position there with the late yellow that got us back up in the top-15. We restarted 20th and came home 11th there, so it was a good run for what we had. We’ve been getting better the last few weeks; we just have a little ways to go yet. We need to get the balance a little better. I think our speed is getting there, we just have to figure out the balance and I think we’ll be in a good spot. Thank you to Allegiant and Chevrolet. We’ll keep rolling forward.”

Daniel Suarez, No. 99 SLAM! Foundation Camaro ZL1

Finished: 16th

“It was a rollercoaster day for the No. 99 SLAM! Foundation Chevy team. In the beginning, we had track position and we were able to defend ourselves pretty decent. But once we lost track position and we lost the balance of the car a little bit in Stage Two, we just couldn’t recover. It seemed like we had some issues with the right-rear on the pit stops that cost us a lot of track position, as well. My pit crew is one of the best out there and I know that they’re going to figure it out. I’m pretty sure it was a mechanical issue and it wasn’t their problem.

All-in-all, we were expecting more, but with how many issues we had, we’ll take it.”

TEAM CHEVY RACE HIGHLIGHTS:

STAGE ONE:

· Making his 200th career NASCAR Cup Series start, William Byron and the No. 24 RaptorTough.com Camaro ZL1 team led Team Chevy to the green flag from the seventh-position in the rain-delayed Crayon 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

· The first caution of the day fell just short of the competition caution on lap 29. Varying strategies throughout pit road, crew chief Rudy Fugle called Byron in for a two-tire stop. Picking up five positions in the race off pit road, Byron took a front-row spot for the restart on lap 34.

· Byron quickly powered his Chevrolet to the top position on the restart – recording his first career laps led in NASCAR’s premier series at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

· Byron went on to lead nine circuits around the 1.058-mile oval, ultimately driving his No. 24 RaptorTough.com Camaro ZL1 to a second-place finish in Stage One.

· Team Chevy Stage One: Top-10

2nd William Byron, No. 24 RaptorTough.com Camaro ZL1

8th Daniel Suarez, No. 99 SLAM! Foundation Camaro ZL1

· At the end of the opening stage, Kyle Busch made contact with that wall, resulting in right-front damage. Taking his No. 8 Lenovo Camaro ZL1 to the garage to evaluate the damage, the team was unable to make repairs, forcing Busch’s early departure from the race.

STAGE TWO:

· During the stage break caution, Byron brought his Chevrolet to pit road for four tires, fuel and an air pressure adjustment. The second car off pit road, Byron took a front-row starting spot for the beginning of Stage Two.

· Running steady in the top-three for the beginning laps of Stage Two, Byron reported to his team that he was fighting tight conditions in his Chevrolet – falling to the 11th position while the team approached the green-flag pit cycle.

· Meanwhile, Kyle Larson had worked his way up to the top-five prior to making a green-flag pit stop on lap 129. Crew chief Cliff Daniels called Larson to pit road for four tires and fuel, re-entering the field in the tenth position.

· Upon completion of the green-flag pit cycle, Larson regained a top-five running position with 25 laps remaining in Stage Two – holding onto the position until the third caution of the day fell on lap 163.

· Under the yellow, Larson was called to pit road for right-side tires only – gaining three positions on pit road to take a front-row starting position for the restart with 17 laps to go in the stage. Larson took the lead on the restart – leading six laps before settling into the second position before taking the green-white checkered flat to end Stage Two.

· Team Chevy Stage Two: Top-10

2nd Kyle Larson, No. 5 Valvoline Camaro ZL1

7th Alex Bowman, No. 48 Ally Camaro ZL1

FINAL STAGE / POST-RACE NOTES:

· With many competitors staying out during the stage break, Daniels opted to bring Larson down pit road from the second position for four tires, fuel and an adjustment – taking the green flag in the 15th position for the start of the final stage.

· Among those opting to stay out during the stage break included Austin Dillon – starting the final stage from the ninth position in his No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Club Camaro ZL1.

· As green-flag pit stops cycled through for those that did not pit during the stage break, Dillon progressed to the top of the leaderboard – taking the lead with 50 laps to go. Dillon continued to pace the field until bringing his Chevrolet to pit road for a scheduled stop on lap 257 – taking four tires, fuel and a small adjustment.

· Running in the 22nd position following his green-flag pit stop, the caution fell with 31 laps to go. With the team’s pit strategy, Dillon was able to stay out for track position – taking the inside front-row position for the restart with 24 laps to go.

· Among those coming to pit road, Larson brought his No. 5 Valvoline Camaro ZL1 to pit road for right-side tires – taking the fourth position for the restart with 24 laps to go.

· After a set of cautions in the closing laps of the race, the eighth and final caution of the day fell with 13 laps remaining. Third in line at the choose cone, Larson was the first to take the inside lane – leading the field to the green flag with nine circuits remaining.

· Going green to the end, Kyle Larson and the No. 5 Valvoline Camaro ZL1 team led the Bowtie brigade to the checkered flag in the third position – his seventh top-10 finish in 13 career NASCAR Cup Series starts at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

· With 20 points-paying NASCAR Cup Series races complete, Chevrolet continues to lead the series in wins (12), top-fives (48), top-10s (88), stage wins (17) and laps led (2,255).

Sound Bites:

“We knew we just had to get rolling on the old tires. Just rolled the bottom. Probably should’ve rolled the fourth lane instead of the third lane, but still a decent day. We’ll keep plugging along. This had just been a great racetrack for us – another top-five. These tracks and these fans here, especially, have been so good to me throughout the years. It’s always fun to come here.” – Kevin Harvick, driver of the No. 4 Busch Light Ford Mustang

“Out of the last two or three months, it feels like a win – truthfully. At the start of the race, we weren’t really great, by any means. But I said a couple of weeks ago coming over here that it’s going to take a while to figure out these cars – to learn these cars, what adjustments make the most sense and kind of what my baseline is. Pocono is kind of the question mark just for how we’ve been running on the big tracks. Hopefully, we can go there and have a good run.” – Chase Briscoe, driver of the No. 14 Mobil 1 Gen G Ford Mustang

“I thought it (the right-rear) felt a little bit awkward leaving pit road, but then after that, working my tires in and going through the gears before the restart, you know… I spun the tires a few times – everything felt normal. I didn’t really have any concerns going into the restart, and then, obviously, the right-rear wheel came off. So, just really, really disappointed. This race team has been working so hard to bring fast race cars to the track. I’m so proud of everybody – Drew (Blickensderfer, crew chief) and all the guys on our team. We’re not capitalizing when we have cars capable of running up front. Just frustrating… disappointing… all the words you can use to describe being upset is certainly where we are. I hate it. I hate it for Smithfield. I hate it for Ford… Mobil 1, HighPoint.com, Go Bowling – everybody that puts so much into this program that we can’t get results.” – Aric Almirola, driver of the No. 10 Smithfield Ford Mustang

Next Up:

The next event on the NASCAR Cup Series schedule is the HighPoint.com 400 on Sunday, July 23 at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway. The race begins at 2:30 p.m. EDT with live coverage provided by USA and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

TOYOTA QUOTES

MARTIN TRUEX JR., No. 19 Reser’s Fine Foods Toyota Camry TRD, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 1st

Is there a win you wanted more than this one?

“I don’t think so. What we’ve been able to do here over the years is pretty remarkable, and to not win was really getting frustrating. James (Small) and I talked about it many times. We thought about it all weekend, talked about it with Christopher (Bell) before the race. He’s like, man, you’ve led more laps here than I’ve even raced in Cup. Just really an awesome job by everybody. What a race car we had today. Just proud of the whole team. Pit stops were flawless. Race car was unbelievable. We had some challenges at times throughout the race and it was a handful at times, but we just kept our heads down, kept digging. Thanks to everybody at racers, Bass Pro, Auto Owners, Toyota TRD, everybody back at the shop, JGR (Joe Gibbs Racing), all our fans, Oakley, FlightSafety, just all the people that help us. This is feeling really, really good to do what we did today and finally cap it off with a lobster.”

How much significance does that add to this for the Truex family?

“It’s a lot. That’s a big part of it. I sat in Turn 1 with my mom. My little brother was drinking out of a bottle, so it was — we were young, 12, 13, maybe 14, whatever. But this is the first big track I ever came to with my dad and watched and the first time I ever seen Cup cars in person and Busch cars in person. It’s been a special place for us. Being able to win K&N, being able to win the Busch Series, this one has been eluding me for a long, long time, so I’m just really, really happy, really thankful, and I can’t say enough about my team, man. They’re incredible. I’m lucky I get to drive these things.”

What were you thinking on those final few restarts? Cautions kept coming out and you had it in hand.

“Stop wrecking, everybody just stop wrecking. Yeah, luckily, we were able to hold them off. The car was just so fast. I don’t know, I don’t even know what to say. I’m speechless. Been after this one a long time. This one is sweet.”

Here you are, finally. How does it feel?

“It feels amazing. I’m so proud of everyone on our team and all of our sponsors. What a Reser’s Camry we had today. I kept waiting for something stupid to happen, like always does here. We’ve led so many laps here over the years but could never lead that last one. Today, the car was on rails, and the guys did a great job. We were able to make our way through traffic better than normal. Tough day, but we fought hard and had a lot of speed.”

What were you thinking after that late two-tire stop?

“You just always hope you come out in the right spot and the guys around you have two. We did what we needed to. That was the right call. James (Small) has been on it this year and the cars have been fast and we’ve been clicking all cylinders. We’ve got a bad-ass team and I’m excited for the rest of the year.”

What else is left this year outside of a championship?

“That’s it. That’s all that matters right now. We’ve got to keep winning. Bonus points are huge for the Playoffs, and we racked them up today, so we’ve got to keep doing it.”

GMG Racing Secures Three Porsche 992 GT3 Cup Podium Finishes This Weekend in Porsche Sprint Challenge Doubleheader at Utah Motorsports Campus

  • Kyle Washington Scores Third-Place 992 GT3 Cup Am Finish in Saturday’s Opening Race in No. 234 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup
  • James Sofronas Doubles Up on Second-Place Overall and 992 GT3 Pro-Am Class Finishes Saturday in His No. 204 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup

TOOELE, Utah (July 17, 2023) – GMG Racing secured a trio of podium finishes Saturday with a competitive performance in the USAC Porsche Sprint Challenge USA West by Yokohama same-day doubleheader at Utah Motorsports Campus (UMC). Kyle Washington, Todd Parriott and GMG Racing Principal and Founder James Sofronas all competed in the top-tier 992 GT3 Cup division in two different classes on the 3.048-mile UMC road course just outside of Salt Lake City.

Washington kept his 992 Am-class championship title bid alive with a third-place finish in Saturday’s first sprint race in his No. 234 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup while Sofronas finished second overall and in the 992 Pro-Am class in both races. Parriott in turn added to the team’s solid weekend of results with a pair of on-pace finishes just outside of the top five in his GMG Racing No. 289 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.

If not for a late incident with a backmarker in Saturday’s second race, Washington was on track to join Sofronas as a double podium finisher at UMC.

“This weekend was all about getting back on the horse,” Sofronas said. “We had the long trip to Spa with the three of us and wanted to get back to some GT3 Cup car competition in the Porsche Sprint Challenge series. For Kyle, getting a third place finish in the first race was excellent, but in the day’s second race he got caught up with a competitor and that took him out of contention while running third. It was really unfortunate because he had great pace all weekend and was on track for multiple podiums like we expected. He still did a great job to recover for a fourth place finish after the contact which could be key in the Am championship in the final half of the season.”

Parriott’s best showing was in Saturday’s first race with a sixth-place finish, improving a position after starting seventh.

“Todd did a great job getting back in the saddle and pushing through a full schedule with back-to-back Saturday races,” Sofronas said. “He kept improving every session, even with the with minimal track time we all had over the two days, and put together a pair of solid finishes he can definitely build on going forward.”

Sofronas kept the heat on the overall and 992 Pro-Am race winner to the finish in both Saturday races. A lengthy mid-race caution minimized green flag opportunities in the opening race, but Sofronas pressured from the start in Saturday’s final sprint.

“I had a chance to pass the leader early,” Sofronas said. “At the start I knew I would get up to second place but then the leader was bobbling a little bit and I should have made a move in turn five. It was definitely a missed opportunity but I figured we would have more pace because we were on a different strategy. I was right there with the leader but then three lapped cars all from the same team made it very difficult to pass and that was the race.”

The Utah event brought the 2023 Sprint Challenge USA West championship to the mid-season point with the year’s remaining rounds set for Circuit of The Americas (COTA), WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca and the 2023 finale at Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMSA). The COTA and IMS weekends are national events with the USA West series competing alongside their peer competitors in the Porsche Sprint Challenge North America by Yokohama that races primarily in the eastern U.S.

“I am excited to go to COTA,” Sofronas said. “We are going to be fast there. There is going to be a test day at Indy and a test day at COTA and I am really looking forward to those. The main issue we had in Utah is that we were not able to test on the Wednesday and Thursday before the race when every other team was testing when we showed up. Along with Kyle and Todd, we all have busy lives with a lot of commitments on and off the track. We just couldn’t get to Utah early enough to test, but it is a huge credit to the GMG Racing team that showed they are up to the task of getting the cars competitive and quick right off of the trailer. We were on pace from the very first session.”

The COTA event weekend is the next order of business on GMG’s Sprint Challenge schedule, August 25 – 27, on the 3.462-mile Grand Prix circuit in Austin, Texas.

Boston Native to Make Third Truck Start of 2023

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (July 17, 2023) — TRICON Garage (TRICON) announced today that Kaz Grala will return to the seat of the No. 1 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro for Pocono Raceway. Serial 1 E-Bikes will serve as the primary partner for Grala’s third NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS) race of the 2023 season.

Serial 1 is a US-based E-Bike brand inspired by the entrepreneurial vision of Harley-Davidson founders and the revolutionary impact of their first motorcycle, affectionately referred to as Serial Number One.

In his two previous starts behind the wheel of the No. 1 truck this season, Grala finished 17th at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and ninth at Circuit of the Americas in March. The full-time Xfinity Series regular has two truck races to his credit at the 2.5-mile tri-oval with those starts coming in 2017 and 2022.

“I am looking forward to making another start with TRICON at Pocono,” said Grala. “We showed speed in the races we ran together earlier this year, so I am optimistic that we can put together a great showing. I need to thank Carl Ruedebusch, Dion Reif, and the Serial 1 Dealer Network for coming on board and giving me the opportunity to drive the No. 1 again.”

“After researching Kaz’s resume of racing accomplishments and spending time with him at the track the last few months, I have gathered a greater understanding of his approach to racing. It was obvious to me that we wanted to sponsor him and go for a win!” said Chairman and Chief Operating Officer of Serial 1 Dion Reif. “In addition, we wanted to promote an amazing charitable cause, by partnering with Little Bricks at “The Tricky Triangle.” The non-profit is a transformative organization dedicated to uplifting the spirits of hospitalized children, which hits home for me and my family as well as our Serial 1 team members.”

“We are so excited to be teaming up with Serial 1 Premium E-Bikes to build BIG smiles on hospitalized kids across North America. Dion and Serial 1 have stepped up with a generous donation, and now sponsorship support as well as some of their amazing products. I can’t wait to ride up to our first children’s hospital on my Little Bricks Serial 1 E-Bike with LEGO sets in tow!” said Russell Cassvah, President & Founder Little Bricks Charity.

Jr III Racing makes Lime Rock Park debut

Lakeview, Conn. (17 July 2023) – As prototypes return to Lime Rock Park for the first time since 2013, Jr III (“Junior-Three”) Racing will look to make history as the team makes its LRP debut this weekend. Jr III Racing will be competing in two 45-minute races with IMSA’s VP Racing SportsCar Challenge (VPRC) with the Saturday race day slated to be an intense one with a double-header schedule.

VPRC has had three rounds of competition this season starting at Daytona International Speedway and the most recent being at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park (CTMP). Jr III Racing has entered into all three events with Bijoy Garg behind the wheel of the No. 3 Jr III Racing Ligier entry.

Twice, Garg has had to learn the track for the first time during the race weekend. But, he’s shown very well, claiming pole at every track so far. Garg has also ran the fastest lap of race one to secure pole position on two of three race two events.

During Garg’s first race weekend at Daytona International Speedway, Garg scored a third place finish in his first sports car race. Garg went on to Sebring International Raceway and swept the weekend with back to back wins. Most recently Garg drove to two second place finishes at CTMP.

“This will be my first time at Lime Rock Park,”said Garg. “I’m really confident in both the team and the car. I believe that we can get a setup down and I can adjust to the track quickly. Jr III Racing has always brought a fast car for me to drive and I’m excited to see what we can do at Lime Rock Park and hopefully grab a couple more wins.”

Although Jr III Racing will be making its Lime Rock Park debut, the team comes with a secret weapon and that is the team’s engineer Scott Heckert. Heckert grew up just over an hour south of Lime Rock Park in Ridgefield, Connecticut. Heckert took his first driving school at Lime Rock Park with Skip Barber Racing school and then went on to compete at the track in 2015 scoring a fourth place finish in Trans Am – TA2 and came back with Pirelli World Challenge in 2016 to grab a third place finish. Heckert returned in 2018 with Pirelli World Challenge and started the race from pole position.

Jr III Racing will start on track action at Lime Rock Park on Friday July 21. Both VP Racing SportsCar Challenge races will take place on Saturday July 22 and will be aired live on the Peacock app at 9:05 am ET and 3:05 pm ET.

Sean Creech Motorsport set for IMSA LMP2 debut

The Florida-based team has secured a Ligier JS P217 for the 2024 Season

JUPITER, Fla. (17 July 2023) – Sean Creech Motorsport (SCM) will enter the 2024 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in the LMP2 class, moving from LMP3 competition with a recently-acquired Ligier JS P217.

“We’re happy to have our program set for 2024,” said team principal Sean Creech. “We wanted to stay in the prototype classes and our existing relationship with Ligier opened the door to staying with them. It’s the same number of races as LMP3, and the logistics are very similar to the program that we’ve been running the last few years, so it made sense to go with LMP2.”

SCM will make the switch to LMP2 after a long and successful history with the LMP3 class, which will no longer compete in the WeatherTech series. Since the Ligier LMP3-spec chassis was introduced in 2017, the team has contested each of the IMSA series that utilized the chassis: the WeatherTech series, the VP Racing SportsCar Challenge, and the IMSA Prototype Challenge. SCM won the 2018 IPC championship, campaigning a Ligier JS P3 under the Extreme Speed Motorsports banner.

Shipped from Europe, the Ligier arrives at the port of Miami this week, with the crew planning to begin prep immediately. They will also continue work on the No. 33 Focal One Ligier JS P320 that will contest the final three IMSA WeatherTech series races of the season – Road America, Indianapolis and Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta.

Creech has competed in a multitude of sports car series from the late 80’s until the present day, including Group C, IMSA GTP, WSC, Grand-Am, SRO World Challenge, and IMSA. With that diverse background, he anticipates a smooth transition from LMP3 to LMP2, thanks in part to the deep reservoir of experience that the SCM crew has developed through the years.

“We have a lot of crew members who have worked on the Ligier LMP2 car, so the changeover won’t be difficult at all,” anticipates Creech. “Our engineers are working to get all the data we need to start a testing program – the lead time to get a Gibson lease engine is long so hopefully we can get something going before that. We’ll look to get as many miles as possible over the winter to get completely up to speed on everything before Daytona.”

The Ligier JS P217 has previously raced in North America, most recently as the platform for the Nissan DPi, earning pole at Watkins Glen and winning at Road America, Petit Le Mans, Sebring and WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Creech looks forward to remaining in the prototype class and continuing the team’s association with Ligier as it opens a new chapter with the LMP2 campaign.

“We have a long history in prototypes,” said Creech. “I started working on them back in the late 80’s on a Porsche 962. This is a good fit for us, especially given our relationship with Ligier that dates back to 2017. We look forward to starting our 2024 prep now.”

Further information about driver lineups will be forthcoming.

SCM thanks partner Focal One for its continued support.

Next up for SCM will be the IMSA SportsCar Weekend at Road America, August 3 – 6. The race will be broadcast live in the U.S. on USA Network and Peacock TV. International viewers can watch via IMSA.tv, with IMSA Radio also available at IMSA.com.

In his third final round appearance of the year, Troy faced off against Dallas Glenn, driver of the RAD Torque Chevrolet Camaro SS Pro Stock car for KB Titan Racing, who has five final round appearances in 10 events and three wins so far this year. This was Troy’s second win of 2023.

“We have a long way to go to November, but at Elite Motorsports, we are not going to give up for darn certain,” said Coughlin at the top end. “Mark Ingersoll, all the boys in the lounge, and everybody that works on this JEGS.com/White Castle machine had this thing flying. Our people make this possible and we love everybody.”

“What a great facility with a great family and what an exciting day to come out here and get a W. You just take it one round at a time, and we have the best people in the industry at Elite Motorsports. Everybody there just does a fantastic job, and they work together. All-for-one, one-for-all. We have excellent power, so you just take it one round at a time and stay focused.”

In Top Fuel, Team Chevy fell in the first round, with Austin Prock, driver of the Montana Brand/Rocky Mountain Twist Chevrolet Top Fuel dragster, and Brittany Force, driver of the Monster Energy/Flav-R-Pac Chevrolet Top Fuel dragster, both being eliminated by their opponents. Force faced off against J.R. Todd in Round 2 and Hight faced off against Ron Capps, with Force losing a close one and Hight losing traction mid-race.

The Chevrolet Top Fuel and Funny Car teams at John Force Racing in NHRA next head to the Pacific Northwest for the second stop on the Western Swing, with Pacific Raceways hosting the 2023 Flav-R-Pac NHRA Northwest Nationals July 21-23, 2023. Broadcast of Sunday’s eliminations will air live at 4 p.m. ET on FOX Sunday, July 23, 2023.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

Brittany Force, driver of the Monster Energy Chevrolet Top Fuel dragster for John Force Racing: “It’s heartbreaking that Bandimere Speedway is closing down and that this was the final national event. Our Monster Energy / Flav-R-Pac team came in strong, set the track record speed, and went to that No. 1 spot. We felt confident coming into race day but it just wasn’t our day. We got taken out early but we did get to enjoy the fans and watch some drag racing together as a team. It’s the beginning of our Western Swing, we go to three right in a row so there’s two more in it, which we love. So luckily for us, we get right back to it in just a couple of days.”

Austin Prock, driver of the Montana Brands/Rocky Mountain Twist Chevrolet Top Fuel dragster for John Force Racing: “Definitely not the way this Montana Brand / Rocky Mountain Twist team wanted or thought this morning was going to go,” Prock said. “We’re disappointed, adds to the sting that it’s the last one here on the Mountain. Going to miss Bandimere Speedway but for now, our team has to put this weekend behind us and move on to Seattle and hopefully get the job done for Frank Tiegs at his Flav-R-Pac race.”

Robert Hight, driver of the Cornwell Quality Tools/AAA Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car for John Force Racing: Not the way this Cornwell team wanted to say goodbye to Bandimere Speedway, but fans made it special. Selling this place out, packing the grandstands, that was something to see. It’s a testament to what the Bandimere family built here,” Hight said. “Wish we could have had a better last memory here, but we’ve had some good ones. Now it’s time to put our heads down and get focused for Seattle.”

John Force, driver of the PEAK Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car for John Force Racing: “I’ve said it’s not over until Bandimere says it’s over. But if this really is the last race at Bandimere Speedway, the fans really showed them how much this place means. The Bandimere family built a wonderful facility here on God’s Mountain. All the racers love this place. The next place where I hope we end up, I can’t wait and I just want to wish the best of luck. I’m disappointed we couldn’t get his PEAK Chevy in the winner’s circle, that we didn’t do better but I know we’ve got to get ready for the rest of the Western Swing, Seattle is next, the Flav-R-Pac Northwest Nationals, looking forward to it.”
