Pinnacle Racing Group to Launch Motorsports Development Program in 2023

MOORESVILLE, N.C.: Pinnacle Racing Group (PRG), a new professional Motorsports team officially announced today its plans to compete in several grassroots racing series in 2023 beginning with the ARCA Menards Series East season-opener at Five Flags (Fla.) Speedway next month.

The Mooresville, N.C.-based team’s purpose is to provide productive and fulfilling careers for all Pinnacle Racing Group team members while being a leader in on-track performance and driver development.

The team will run Chevrolets in its ARCA Menards Series and Late Model platforms and has selected No. 28 for its primary entries.

Veteran crew chief and former NASCAR driver Shane Huffman will serve as the team’s general manager and crew chief.

“The great thing about a new start-up team or business is you have a clean slate to build the foundation and set the principles for PRG to operate,” offered Pinnacle Racing Group spokesperson Mark Webb.

“From our earliest discussions, our key focus points were on excellence, integrity, performance and sustainability for the long term. Acquiring Shane (Huffman) was the first important piece of the building block we needed.

“Shane has a vast knowledge of racing at many levels and has done a tremendous job in a short amount of time putting together an excellent group that is highly talented, motivated and most importantly team-oriented.

Huffman, who most recently led the crew chief efforts at Bret Holmes Racing in the ARCA Menards Series and NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series respectively is excited about the next chapter in his Motorsports career and believes the foundation that PRG is constructing will not only lead to success but to Victory Lane.

“We have been quietly working on building PRG and I am thrilled to have the formation of the team finally announced,” Huffman said. “PRG has given me the green light to build a team from the ground up.

“We have not rushed anything. We want to make sure when we unload at Five Flags Speedway in March, PRG sets a tone on what our drivers and members of our team can expect on a weekly basis. We realize that there likely will be some initial growing pains, but we feel we can emerge from those quickly and start producing results with our talented driver lineup.”

Webb concurred with Huffman’s assessment of not rushing to the team’s first green flag.

“We purposefully delayed our opening race until March 25 at Five Flags to be certain we were prepared and had everything in place to be our best,” he said.

The team did offer a clue about its first-named driver.

“We are really excited about our new driver,” sounded Huffman. “Lorin Rainer, Josh Wise and Chevrolet have been instrumental in fitting all the pieces of the puzzle together and we believe the driver can really create some attention under the PRG banner.”

Webb added, “Lorin Ranier has been an excellent voice and sounding board in providing insight into our decision-making processes.

“We look forward to Shane’s leadership and the dedicated work of our PRG team members for a successful inaugural season.

PRG will officially unveil its full 2023 driver lineup in the coming weeks.

TRICON Garage adds Sammy Smith for Truck Series opener at Daytona

Photo by Chad Wells for SpeedwayMedia.com.

A new season with a new opportunity will produce another first-time opportunity for Sammy Smith as he will be joining TRICON Garage in a one-race deal for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck season-opening event at Daytona International Speedway in mid-February.

The 18-year-old Smith from Johnston, Iowa, will be piloting TRICON’s No. 17 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro sponsored by Mobil 1 in place of Taylor Gray, who will not compete in the first three Truck events on this year’s schedule due to NASCAR’s age restriction policy. Gray, who is set to join TRICON and contend for the rookie title, will make his first start of this season at Circuit of the Americas in late March once he turns 18.

For Smith, the Daytona event will mark his first career start in the NASCAR Truck circuit. He is set to pilot Joe Gibbs Racing’s No. 18 Toyota Supra on a full-time basis for this upcoming NASCAR Xfinity Series season, beginning at Daytona in February, as he will contend for both the rookie and championship titles. During the previous season, Smith made his first nine career starts in the Xfinity circuit with JGR, where he notched three top-10 results and a career-best third-place run at Watkins Glen International in August. He is also a two-time ARCA Menards Series East champion, having won both titles in the last two consecutive seasons, and a six-time ARCA Menards Series winner.

The 2023 season is set to mark a new beginning for TRICON Garage, which was rebranded from David Gilliland Racing and changed manufacturers with Toyota following a three-year partnership with Ford. In addition to the No. 17 entry, the team will be fielding the Nos. 5, 11 and 15 entries on a full-time basis. Corey Heim, the reigning Truck Series Rookie-of-the-Year recipient, will be piloting the No. 11 entry for his first full-time Truck campaign while Dean Thompson and Tanner Gray will be driving the Nos. 5 and 15 entries, respectively. TRICON will also be fielding the No. 1 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro on a part-time basis for newcomer William Sawalich, who is scheduled to make his Truck debut at Martinsville Speedway in April.

Additional details regarding TRICON Garage’s driver plans for the No. 17 entry for the following two Truck events at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and at Atlanta Motor Speedway in March have yet to be announced.

Smith’s debut in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series is set to occur at Daytona International Speedway on February 17, which will commence a new season of Truck competition. The event is scheduled to occur at 7:30 p.m. ET on FS1.

RCR Race Preview: Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum

Let’s Clash… Rolling out the red carpet in Los Angeles, NASCAR kicks off its 75th Anniversary in true Hollywood fashion when engines roar for the Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum this Sunday, February 5 at the quarter-mile, asphalt oval inside the historic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. This weekend’s Clash at the Coliseum marks the 45th running of the annual non-points exhibition race, with the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum serving as just the third venue for the event since its inception in 1979.

Richard Childress Racing in the Clash… Richard Childress Racing has earned nine wins in the Clash, six by Dale Earnhardt (1980, 1986, 1988, 1991, 1993, and 1995) and three by Kevin Harvick (2009, 2010 and 2013). In last season’s inaugural event at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Austin Dillon led RCR with a third-place finish.

New Qualifying Format for 2023… Although 36 drivers will make the cross-country trek to California to attempt to win at the legendary Los Angeles venue, only 27 will make it through to the 150 lap main event. Each driver has three chances to qualify for the feature.

There will be four heat races (25 laps each) consisting of 10 drivers each. The top five finishers in each heat will advance to run in the main event, filling 20 positions on the final grid.
Positions 21 through 26 in the starting lineup will be set by drivers that have raced their way in by finishing in the top-three in either of the two last chance qualifier races (50 laps each).
The 27th and final position in the main event is reserved for the driver who finished the highest in the 2022 Cup Series season point standings who did not transfer on finishing position in the heat races or last chance qualifier races.

Catch the Action… The Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum will be televised live Sunday, February 5 at 8 p.m. ET on FOX, with the Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90 carrying the live radio broadcast.

Austin Dillon and the No. 3 Get Bioethanol Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum… Austin Dillon, the 2018 DAYTONA 500 Champion, is among the NASCAR Cup Series drivers vying for a spot in this year’s Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum, a 150-lap non-points exhibition race limited to 27 cars. In 2022, Dillon started the main feature from the 10th position and drove his way to a strong third-place finish.

New Year, New Face on the Pit Box… This weekend’s exhibition race will mark Keith Rodden’s debut as crew chief for Dillon and the No. 3 Richard Childress Racing team. Rodden, an experienced crew chief and race engineer in the Cup Series, most recently worked on the Motorsports Competition NASCAR strategy group at General Motors.

Delivering Performance on the Track and For the Planet… Dillon will pilot the Get Bioethanol Chevrolet in the Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum, showcasing the performance benefits of racing with earth kind and engine smart bioethanol blended fuel, Sunoco Green E15. Whether it’s delivering cleaner and cooler high octane on the racetrack or a more affordable option for spring break road trips, plant-based bioethanol makes a positive impact on our planet. Learn more about bioethanol at getbioethanol.com.

Meet Dillon… Dillon and his RCR teammate, Kyle Busch, are scheduled to participate in a Q&A session hosted by Riki Rachtman on Sunday, February 5 at 11:15 a.m. local time at the Christmas Tree Lane Stage outside the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTE:

Your RCR Chevrolet Camaro was really strong in the Clash last year. Did the race exceed your expectations?

“There were a lot of unknowns heading into the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum last year. It was a brand new track – the smallest and tightest track we had ever raced on in the NASCAR Cup Series – and a brand new car with the debut of the NextGen Chevrolet. I think the race exceeded everybody’s expectations. NASCAR did a great job introducing new fans to the sport, and FOX did a great job with the broadcast window. Everyone knew we were there, and it was a solid move forward for the sport. From the competition side of things, it was good, fun racing. Our RCR Camaro was really fast in practice, and our long run speed was there during the race. I’m just disappointed I couldn’t get those next two cars and ended up finishing third. All-in-all, our sports’ inaugural race in L.A. was great, and we’re all looking forward to getting back there for this year’s event.”

Kyle Busch and the No. 8 BetMGM Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum… Kyle Busch led the most laps (64 of 150) on his way to a second-place finish in the inaugural event at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in 2022. His average running position in the race was a sizzling 1.65 – best of any driver. Busch has two Clash wins (2012 and 2021), and could become the first driver to win the Clash on three different track designs (superspeedway, road course and short track) should he win in 2023.

Meet Busch… Busch and his RCR teammate, Austin Dillon, are scheduled to participate in a Q&A session hosted by Riki Rachtman on Sunday, February 5 at 11:15 a.m. local time at the Christmas Tree Lane Stage outside the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

KYLE BUSCH QUOTES:

What are the keys to running well at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum?

“Obviously, having a fast car is good but to have a fast car you have to be fast while going slow. You’re probably out of the throttle just as much as you’re in the throttle at the Clash and the amount of time in which you’re on the brakes is going to be very important to making sure you’re not on them too much but still able to get the car slowed down enough in order to make it turn for the middle of the corner and exit for the next straightaway.”

Can you compare racing at the Coliseum to any place you’ve raced at in the past?

“Racing at the Coliseum is most similar to a place in Canada that I raced at once before, Autodrome Chaudiere, which is a tight little quarter-mile track. It had a little bit of banking, so the Coliseum being so flat is a little bit new compared to that. There’s also another place in Los Angeles that’s not too far away which is called San Bernadino Speedway. There’s a little quarter-mile, flat racetrack there that I raced Legends cars at years and years ago. Had a lot of fun and won a race there. I feel like I’m using some of that for racing at the Coliseum.”

How challenging is it to qualify well at the Clash?

“Last year for us it was really good. I was able to qualify first and ran second for majority of the race. We had a good race but came up a tick short. Qualifying well at the Clash is important as much as it is challenging because it’s only two laps and you’ve got to hit your marks. It’s hard to know how hard you hit the corner and how much you really give it on exit to not spin the tires too much. It is a challenge, but it’s also very important because it can set up your track position for the whole rest of the event.”

How important is it for NASCAR to kick off the season in Los Angeles?

“I think it’s great to get an opportunity to go out to Los Angeles and kick off the season. I think that it kind of wakes the Los Angeles crowd up a little bit for when we come back out there for Fontana. Might get them a little interested to come back out and see NASCAR again at Fontana but it also gives newer fans people the opportunity to see us in LA and sometimes they won’t really venture out too far out to go somewhere to see an event so it’s nice to have one right there in the meat of the city and also get the attention of nothing really on television during that weekend with the NFL taking the weekend off before the Super Bowl.”

Herta Leads Tight Pack at Top of First Day of Thermal Open Test

THERMAL, Calif. (Thursday, Feb. 2, 2023) – Colton Herta paced a tight bunch of drivers at the top of the time sheets after the first day of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES open test Feb. 2 at The Thermal Club.

Herta was the quickest overall among 27 drivers running for 5.5 hours, split into morning and afternoon sessions on the 17-turn, 3.067-mile layout being used for this test. His top time of 1 minute, 39.3721 seconds was set during the afternoon session in the No. 26 Honda fielded by Andretti Autosport with Curb-Agajanian. Herta also led the morning session at 1:39.9303, the only driver under 1:40 in that session.

“Just a lot of knocking the rust off,” Herta said. “It’s really good to get the team back into it, get all the boys working again and just get everybody back into the flow. It’s nice to be back in a car. It’s a fun track to drive.”

Christian Lundgaard, the 2022 series Rookie of the Year, started his second full season with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing by ending up second in the No. 45 Honda at 1:39.3767, just .0046 of a second behind Herta.

2021 series champion Alex Palou was third at 1:39.3970 in the No. 10 Chip Ganassi Racing Honda, .0249 of a second behind Herta. Romain Grosjean continued the traffic jam near the top, ending up fourth at 1:39.4826 in the No. 28 Honda, putting two Andretti Autosport cars in the top four as the team looks to rebound from a challenging 2022 season.

Reigning and two-time series champion Will Power rounded out the top five at 1:39.5690 in the No. 12 Team Penske Chevrolet, the leading Chevy-powered driver.

Less than one second separated the top 18 drivers today overall.

Testing will continue Friday from noon-2:30 p.m. ET and 4-7:30 p.m. ET. Live timing is available at racecontrol.indycar.com, with more content at indycar.com and INDYCAR’s digital channels on all major social platforms.

This is the series’ first preseason open test since the 2020 test at Circuit of the Americas and INDYCAR’s first appearance at The Thermal Club, a private, world-class facility located just outside Palm Springs, California. The 470-acre property opened in 2012 and is known as a premier circuit for club racers and sports car enthusiasts.

“It’s a cool track,” said Callum Ilott, who ended up seventh overall in the No. 77 Juncos Hollinger Racing Chevrolet. “A good place to get us started. It’s got a lot of different corners. It’s definitely a great circuit to drive and a lot of fun.”

Marcus Armstrong was the quickest among the four rookies testing in preparation for their first NTT INDYCAR SERIES season. Armstrong, from New Zealand, was 10th overall with a top lap of 1:39.9077 in the No. 11 Chip Ganassi Racing Honda.

“It’s only my second day in an INDYCAR SERIES car, but this Ganassi car certainly gives me a lot of confidence,” Armstrong said. “It moves very natural, if that makes sense.”

Kyle Kirkwood was second quickest in the morning session at 1:40.0236 as he made an impressive debut in the No. 27 Andretti Autosport Honda after driving for AJ Foyt Racing as a rookie in 2022. But Kirkwood turned no laps in the afternoon session due to a clutch change by the Andretti Autosport crew.

NTT INDYCAR SERIES News Conference

Callum Ilott

Press Conference

Callum Ilott, No. 77 Juncos Hollinger Racing Chevrolet, seventh quickest today:

THE MODERATOR: Good afternoon, everyone. Wrapping up the first day of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES test day. The fastest in both sessions today, Colton Herta. Also joining us seventh quick in session two, Callum Ilott. Callum, you’re 24, the old guy of the group. Colton is like 22. This is like the next generation of young racers.

CALLUM ILOTT: You said I’m old?

THE MODERATOR: You’re old when it comes to the next generation.

Callum, your thoughts on a full day today? Obviously pretty successful in the Chevrolet.

CALLUM ILOTT: Yeah, starting off I was getting used to the circuit, also the team. It was all right. Not as good as him. I think he set a great lap straightaway.

Coming into the afternoon we had a couple items we needed to test and get through.

It was good. I like this place. It’s a big mix of slow speed, long corners, high speed. I think not very forgiving if you do go wrong. No one has put in the wall yet. That’s a good sign.

THE MODERATOR: You see some video, maybe some onboards of various sports cars that are here. Once you get out on the racetrack, was it anything similar?

CALLUM ILOTT: The only thing I found was an E92 M3. That was a good one. That was this track. Obviously, a few layouts. The angle of it was on the floor so you couldn’t see where you were going.

I don’t know. I don’t think anyone has this on a simulator.

“It was a bit of a discovery process for everyone. It’s high speed. I think it’s a great place to start to get us active. To do two days here, yeah, we’ll see what tomorrow holds.

THE MODERATOR: We’ll go ahead and open it up for questions.

Q. What do you think about the possibility of doing a race here? Would it work?

CALLUM ILOTT: It sets a standard really of what we want to be doing with this series. It’s really, really high level, high tech. As a circuit, yeah, it’s got a little bit different corners.

I think the overtaking, we’ll find a way, we’re INDYCAR, someone always sends it down the inside. I think if we can extend the straight and get some maybe between turn six and seven some overtaking. It’s definitely a great circuit to drive and good fun and a bit different to the normal winter training we get in Florida. So I like the circuit.

Yeah, I think if we could, it would be good to race here once.

Q. Anything from a safety upgrade standpoint?

CALLUM ILOTT: I think the (indiscernible) might propose a little bit of an issue. Again, it depends on what angle you’re hitting them obviously.

It’s a pretty straightforward process to make it a bit safer and a bit more cushiony. I’m not in charge of that stuff. I just drive and try not to hit those things.

Yeah, I think it’s a straightforward process. To be fair, everyone has had a little moment today, spun and carried on. That’s a good start. Obviously there are anomalies, these things happen. So far, so good.

Q. Your teammate, do you know the problems he was having?

CALLUM ILOTT: Obviously it’s not easy to jump in these things. He did a good job by the end of the day.

We’re finding our way with the car. There were a couple things in the morning where I was really not happy with it. I know for me that that’s not how the car should behave, whereas he might go to push it a bit more because he doesn’t know on that side. I think that’s what happened on one of the places.

In the afternoon I think they kind of followed the way we’d gone. Yeah, I think he was all right. Look, you’ve always got to push it. A lot of others were making mistakes. I think he was 7/10ths off me by the end of the day. Not bad for the first day.

Q. Callum, last year you said Portland and Laguna was where it started coming together for you. You had experience on those tracks from the year before. When you got the front row at Laguna, was that a sudden breakthrough or because you knew your way around?

CALLUM ILOTT: No, we could go back to, like, Long Beach was one that I’d done before. I think we qualified even worse than the year before. It was put together last minute for the year before. It’s not always the case.

Obviously I know my way around Laguna. That helped a bit. It was one of those tracks that you always drove on Gran Turismo or something as well. I knew it on that side.

Barber was the first place it kind of clicked. At the end of the season I think that’s where we started to understand where we needed to start with the car and have a good baseline. It kind of reflected in those two.

Hopefully I would like to be able to do the same in St. Pete and come along. I think the street circuit car has always been a bit more difficult, a couple things we struggle with. I don’t know if we’ve solved them or not, so it will be interesting to see.

THE MODERATOR: Callum, your eyes lit up when Colton said seven first-gear corners.

CALLUM ILOTT: I’ll go a few second gears, but he was quicker so I might need to revisit that. If I get the blue lights, I’m going to shift.

Preventing Your Car from Being Stolen from Your Home

Car theft is a common problem that affects many car owners. Unfortunately, it can also happen right in your own driveway. A stolen car not only causes you inconvenience but also leads to financial losses. The following are some practical tips to help you prevent your car from being stolen from your home.

  1. Invest in a quality car alarm system. A car alarm is one of the most effective ways to deter thieves from stealing your car. It sends out a loud alarm if someone tries to break into your car, alerting you and your neighbors.
  2. Ensure all gating and fencing are up to scratch and aren’t damaged. If you need new fencing then perhaps consider the following – https://www.gates-scotland.co.uk/palisade-fencing
  3. Park your car in a well-lit area. Parking in a well-lit area makes it easier for you and your neighbors to see if anyone is attempting to steal your car. It also makes it harder for a thief to hide in the shadows.
  4. Use steering wheel locks. A steering wheel lock is an inexpensive and effective way to prevent car theft. It makes it much harder for a thief to steal your car, as they would have to first remove the lock before they could drive away.
  5. Install a GPS tracking device. GPS tracking devices can help you locate your stolen car if it’s taken. Some car insurance policies also offer discounts for cars equipped with GPS tracking devices.
  6. Keep your garage door closed. A closed garage door not only keeps your car safe, but it also protects your other belongings. A closed garage door also makes it more difficult for a thief to access your car.
  7. Use window etching. Window etching is a process where your vehicle identification number (VIN) is etched onto the windows of your car. This makes it harder for a thief to sell your car, as the VIN can be easily traced back to you.
  8. Keep your keys secure. Don’t leave your car keys lying around, as they can easily be stolen by a thief. Instead, keep them in a secure place, such as a locked drawer or safe.
  9. Always lock your car doors. It may seem obvious, but many people forget to lock their car doors, leaving them vulnerable to theft. Double-check your doors before you go to bed or leave your car unattended.
  10. Consider purchasing an immobilizer. An immobilizer is a device that stops the engine from starting without the correct key. This makes it much more difficult for a thief to steal your car.
  11. Be aware of your surroundings. Always be aware of your surroundings, especially if you live in a high-crime area. Look for suspicious behavior, such as people loitering around your car or trying to open doors.

In conclusion, there are many ways to prevent your car from being stolen from your home. By following these tips, you can reduce the risk of having your car stolen and ensure that your car remains safe and protected. Remember, prevention is the best form of protection. Don’t wait until it’s too late to take action, start taking steps today to protect your car and your peace of mind.

Additionally, consumer demand for more efficient and innovative automobiles is another cause of its growth; as people become more environmentally aware, they seek options to reduce their carbon footprint and improve the overall health of humans.

Overall, it’s no surprise that the automotive industry is growing at such a fast rate – with so much potential for innovation within the field, we can only expect more extraordinary things from it in years to come!

Here’s a look at seven of the latest trends that are set to shape the automotive industry in 2023:

  1. Autonomous Driving

This technology has been developing for some time now and is finally becoming widely available.

Companies like Tesla, Volvo, Ford, and GM have all developed their systems for self-driving cars, and with advancements in artificial intelligence, these vehicles are getting smarter daily.

Autonomous driving systems are quickly becoming the way of the future, making them one of the biggest trends to watch for in 2023.

  1. Electric Vehicles

Electric vehicles (EVs) have been gaining popularity over recent years due to their numerous advantages, such as low maintenance costs, quicker acceleration, and no emissions.

EVs are expected to become even more common in 2023 as manufacturers create improved models with longer-range batteries and more powerful motors.

Countries like Norway have already started phasing out gas-powered cars, so we will soon see a reduction in fossil fuel use worldwide!

  1. Connected Cars

Connected cars utilize built-in GPS systems, infotainment centers with voice control capabilities, and Bluetooth connectivity to make calls hands-free or stream your favorite music from your smartphone while on the go.

This technology will soon become a standard feature on many high-end vehicles, so it’s worth keeping an eye out for cars equipped with such features if you’re looking to get one this year!

  1. Augmented Reality

Augmented reality (AR) gives drivers access to real-time data via digital displays inside or outside their vehicles.

This technology lets drivers get detailed information about traffic conditions or local points of interest.

At the same time, they drive, which can ultimately lead to safer driving habits since everyone will have access to up-to-date info at all times!

  1. Cloud Computing

Cloud computing allows users to access data stored remotely on cloud servers rather than having it stored locally onboard their vehicle’s computer system.

This makes tasks like navigating apps or streaming music much quicker and simpler since everything runs off an external server rather than your car’s limited hardware resources!

  1. 3D Printing Technology

3D printing is starting to be used more frequently in automotive manufacturing for custom parts and components such as seats or interior trim pieces – this provides many benefits such as weight reduction plus cost savings due to speedier production cycles!

  1. Virtual Reality Experiences

Finally, some automakers are starting to experiment with virtual reality experiences that can be accessed through compatible headsets inside or outside your car.

This technology could allow drivers and passengers to experience incredible interactive scenarios without leaving their vehicles!

Conclusion

So there you have it – seven of the latest trends popping up within the auto industry that will undoubtedly shape its future over the next few years.

Whether you’re looking into buying an EV or curious about what kind of tech will come embedded within our rides by then – these developments should provide some insight into what we can expect from automobiles moving forward!

Massive Partnership Lineup Announced for JTG Daugherty Racing’s 2023 NASCAR Cup Series Season

The racing organization enters its 29th year in NASCAR with powerhouse brands.

Harrisburg, N.C. (February 2, 2023) – – The NASCAR Cup Series season is ramping up, and the JTG Daugherty Racing’s partner list for the No. 47 Kroger Racing Camaro is close to completing its lineup for the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season.

“We are humbled to share the news about our esteemed Kroger Racing partner lineup today,” said Paul Zindrick, JTG Daugherty Racing VP of Corporate Partnerships. “At the top of the pyramid is Kroger® because we could not do this without their unwavering support. Together we have built a best-in-class program that provides a positive ROI to our new and existing partners.”

“It has been a busy offseason, and we are excited to get the season kicked off with all of our partners,” added JTG Daugherty Racing co-owner Tad Geschickter. “Our goal this season is to win races and to sell cases!”

The Kroger Co., which is one of JTG Daugherty Racing’s longest running relationships and the nation’s largest grocer, has played an integral role with the company since 2010. The team has coordinated countless merchandising events and promotional campaigns with multiple divisions and CPG (consumer packaged goods) partners. To tie into the divisional activations, banners will be rotated on Ricky Stenhouse Jr.’s No. 47 Camaro. Those banners include: Kroger, Dillons®, Food 4 Less®, Fry’s® Food Stores, Mariano’s, Ralphs® and Smith’s®.

For starters, Food 4 Less takes center stage for NASCAR’s electrifying preseason race, The Clash at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The No. 47 Food 4 Less Camaro will carry The Kraft-Heinz Company’s supremely creamy Velveeta® brand during the exhibition race this Sunday on FOX.

“We have an impressive list of partners in our Kroger Racing program,” said two-time NASCAR Cup Series winner and two-time NASCAR Xfinity Series champion Ricky Stenhouse Jr. “We’re looking forward to starting our regular season and delivering both on and off the track for our Kroger Racing partners.”

JTG Daugherty Racing has added multiple new partners including The Coca-Cola Company, which has rich ties to stock-car racing with roots that run deep. This year, the beverage giant has elevated their partnership with the Kroger Racing team and will feature Coca-Cola® in a variety of races this season on the No. 47.

Another major partner added is Kellogg Company, which features delicious brands that we know and love while “creating better days and a place at the table for everyone through trusted food brands.” The Kellogg Company will highlight hero brand Cheez-It® snack crackers and Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes® cereal that gives the “sweet spark to go all in.”

New to the stable as well is Blue Buffalo™ dog and cat food with the finest natural ingredients, where quality ingredients are only the beginning. Animals have always been near and dear to the hearts of our team owners since the company’s inception and the brand is a great fit.

Surely, to be a fan favorite, Dreyer’s™ Grand Ice Cream has jumped on board. For nearly a century, Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream has served up scoops. They will spotlight Drumstick®, which has been America’s favorite since 1928 and a staple in the team’s freezer throughout the years.

Continuing with the momentum, Tree Top® has joined the racing organization as well. Tree Top takes “pride in good fruit and crafting 100% fruit juice.” They turn fruit they harvest into Apple Sauce that people have enjoyed for generations. Both their Apple Sauce and Apple Juice will be displayed on the No. 47 Camaro.

We’re also excited to announce Upfield™ is joining the team. They are new to us, but their slow-churned creamy Country Crock® spread is not new to racing. NASCAR fans will get to see mom’s ally in action during Darlington’s Throwback weekend. Also, I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter!® will be spotlighted in the program.

But wait, there’s more! The team welcomes Pit Boss®, which covers the rubs and spices category and is our official grilling partner for this season. We are also happy to announce that Sugarlands Distilling Co., which performs the age-old craft of distilling fine award-winning spirits, has joined the racing organization. Further, to help soothe our aches and pains during the season, Sanofi’s Icy Hot® comprehensive line of pain-relieving solutions has been signed.

Up next are our long-term partners. Like The Kroger Co., Kimberly-Clark has been a longstanding partner of ours for over a decade. Their first appearance on the No. 47 was also in 2010 with Scott® Products, and they sponsored the No. 47 car when we visited Victory Lane in 2014 at Watkins Glen International. Scott® Brand, Cottonelle®, Kleenex® and Viva® will be featured on Stenhouse Jr.’s car at various times during the 2023 season. The pioneer and global leader is jumpstarting the regular season with Cottonelle on the No. 47 Kroger Camaro for the Daytona 500 on February 19th.

Another one of our innovative partners, Bimbo Bakeries USA, has returned for the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season. For half a decade, their shopper marketing team has found clever ways to showcase and successfully activate the partnership all year long. We’re looking forward to continuing to grow together, and highlighting their iconic brands. Thomas’®, known for “English Muffins to Everything Bagels,” is identified as the hero brand while Entenmann’s® and Ball Park® Buns & Rolls will have nice visibility during select events.

One more returning partner includes the trusted brands of Colgate-Palmolive. Over 200 years they have served hundreds of millions of consumers worldwide. Their Irish Spring® Body Wash was spotted in multiple races during the 2022 season and strategically had placement on the No. 47 Kroger Racing Camaro for the Bristol Dirt Race. The team needed Irish Spring® Body Wash from the cloud of dirt kicked up during that cool spectacle. Irish Spring returns for the Bristol Dirt Race on April 9th.

Shifting from body wash to a snack bar category, General Mills returns with their perfect bars for wherever you are. Nature Valley™ is packing a punch with snacks that keep you going throughout the day. Additionally, they are featuring Totino’s™ golden Pizza Rolls and Party Pizza.

Next, Conagra Brands combines a rich heritage of great food with innovation at the heart of what they do. Their iconic protein snack, Slim Jim®, is back on the No. 47 Camaro.

Adding to the powerhouse brands listed is The Hershey Company, which has 90 beloved brands and a legacy of goodness. It was nostalgic to see their Reese’s® brand return to NASCAR on Stenhouse Jr.’s No. 47 Camaro at Charlotte last year. This time around, they will be with us at North Wilkesboro Speedway for the All-Star race weekend.

Then we have Harvest Hill’s bold and tasty unique orange drink, SUNNYD®. They have a long history with Stenhouse Jr. prior to the Olive Branch, Mississippi native joining JTG Daugherty Racing in 2020. We’re proud to announce they have signed on for this season, especially since they have played a vital role in Stenhouse Jr.’s NASCAR Cup Series success: two wins, three pole awards, 20 top-five and 45 top-10 finishes.

Riviana® Foods Inc. is another longstanding partner featuring Minute® Rice that suits our team and NASCAR consumers’ fast-paced lifestyle. Minute Rice is quick and easy to make with great flavor for a side dish or as a recipe ingredient and a household name.

That wraps up the list for now. In the coming weeks, the team plans to share more news as contracts are placed in the drawer. For now, be sure to tune into the upcoming preseason exhibition race at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The Busch Light Class airs at 8 PM ET on FOX, MRN Radio, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Ch. 90) on Sunday, February 5th (and qualifying heat races begin at 5 PM ET).

- From the Drivers Seat: Entering your rookie season, you head to Los Angeles with a lot of momentum surrounding your team. Specifically for this event, what do you anticipate and what are some of your expectations for this weekend?

“We’ve had a lot of great things going for us at LEGACY MOTOR CLUB, and I’m looking forward to starting our year on the right foot this weekend in Los Angeles. The Clash is a great event that NASCAR has put on; I watched the race on TV last year and was pretty excited about what I was able to take away as a fan of the sport. There’s certainly a cool atmosphere there, and it’ll also be a fun experience to join our new partner Hurley with their NASCAR drop. We’re even going to go up in the Goodyear Blimp before the weekend kicks off, which is something that I’m really pumped about. As far as expectations go, I think the key for us will be to make the race first and foremost, and then continue to learn about this new car before we start points racing. I’ve still got a lot to learn competing at this level, but I’m ready to get things under way with my No. 42 Sunseeker Resorts team.”

Burton, Motorcraft/Quick Lane Team Have High Hopes for the Clash

Harrison Burton and the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane team are optimistic headed into this weekend’s Busch Light Clash at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, and with good reason.

For starters, they had a good run in the inaugural Clash, which is held on a temporary course inside the famed stadium. The team also is encouraged by the way it ended last year’s Cup Series season with a flurry of good finishes. To top it all off Burton is fresh off a win in an IMSA sports car race on the road course at Daytona International Speedway.

“Last year’s Clash was a great event for the industry and for the No. 21 Ford,” said crew chief Brian Wilson, who like Burton is heading into his sophomore season in NASCAR’s elite division. “Transferring into the main event was a huge accomplishment for our young team.”

“We’re looking to build from that and on the momentum we had to end 2022.”

Wilson said the entire Motorcraft/Quick Lane organization was heartened by the late-season improvement, which was backed up by race statistics.

“Coming off the end of the season, everyone was excited with our step forward in competitiveness,” he said. “In three of the last four races we qualified in the top-10. This was a great sign that our hard work was paying off.”

Once the final checkered flag of 2022 had flown, Wilson and the team did a more thorough evaluation of their season, and liked what they saw.

“After the first four races in 2022 our average finish was 29th,” he said. “In the last four races it was 19th.

“That’s a large step forward in a highly competitive field. You could also see progress when you looked quarter by quarter at our stats.”

“At the end of the year everyone could feel the change in performance, but it’s always good to see the numbers back that up.”

Wilson added that last week’s win by Burton at Daytona, where he teamed with fellow Ford driver Zane Smith to win the Michelin Pilot Challenge event. Burton took the checked flag over veteran sports car racer Spencer Pumpelly, making him and Smith the first NASCAR regulars to get the victory in that race.

“Harrison’s win in his Mustang was another boost of confidence, Wilson said. “The Wood Brothers team is excited to get to the track and continue to improve on where we ended 2022.”

Practice for the Busch Light Clash is set for Saturday from 3-5 p.m. Pacific Standard Time (6-8 p.m. Eastern), to be followed by single-car qualifying. Both will be broadcast on FOX Sports 1.

Sunday’s program starts at 2 p.m. (5 p.m. Eastern) with four 25-lap heat races followed by two 50-lap last chance races.

The 150-lap main event begins at 5 p.m. Pacific (8 p.m. Eastern), with Sunday’s coverage on FOX.
