This weekend the NASCAR Cup Series and the Xfinity Series travel to Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin to compete at Road America. It will mark the Cup Series first time back at the 4.048-mile road course since 1956.

The first and only previous Cup Series race was held on August 12, 1956 and was won by NASCAR Hall of Fame driver Tim Flock. He led 17 laps in his Bill Stroppe Mercury and earned his fourth victory of the season.

The Xfinity Series has been racing at Road America since 2010. Twenty-eight of the 40 drivers entered in the Cup Series race have competed in some of those Xfinity Series races. This should give them an advantage over the competitors who are making their debut at this challenging road course that features multiple elevations and 14 turns.

In 30 NASCAR Xfinity Series starts at Elkhart Lake, RCR scored three consecutive victories with drivers Brendan Gaughan (2014), Paul Menard (2015), and Michael McDowell (2016) and posted 12 top-five and 14 top-10 finishes.

The NASCAR Cup Series’ Road America 250 at Road America will be televised live Sunday, July 4, beginning at 2:30 p.m. ET on NBC and will be broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90.

Austin Dillon and the No. 3 Dow Salutes Veterans Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE at Road America… Although this weekend marks the NASCAR Cup Series’ first appearance to Road America since 1956, Austin Dillon has made three starts total at the track spread out among the NASCAR Xfinity Series and the ARCA Racing Series, earning two top-10 finishes. He also plans to compete in the Trans Am Series this weekend to get additional lap time at Road America.

Dow brings a science and engineering crew who is driven by limitless curiosity to the RCR Team… Austin Dillon and the RCR team are again supported by Dow’s materials science expertise and technologies this season. Backed by the power of data analysis and virtual modeling, Dow develops and manufactures high-performance components and materials custom-made for the No. 3 car. Dow and RCR’s partnership has expedited innovation and shortened testing time in the automotive industry by recreating in the lab one of the most extreme environments – the racetrack. After eight years of collaboration, Dow scientists and RCR engineers are continuing to work together to make the No. 3 car faster, safer and more precise. More than 1,900 U.S. Military Veterans will “ride” with Dillon this weekend thanks to a patriotic No. 3 Chevrolet featuring the names of U.S. Military Veterans and active-duty military members.

This year’s No. 3 Dow Salutes Veterans Chevrolet features Dow’s commitment to the service and skills that veterans bring to the workforce with a special nod to Dow’s Veterans Resource Group (VETNET) and Military Degree Equivalency (MDE) program, which provides an opportunity for individuals with extensive military background to bring their broad scope of training and education, experience in leadership, and understanding of performing in high pressure situations into a successful career at Dow.

2021 marks the seventh consecutive year that Dow has partnered with RCR to honor U.S. Military veterans. The program began with just over 350 veterans in 2015 to more than 1900 this year. This year’s program also highlights Dow’s relationship with Team Rubicon, a veteran-led disaster response organization.

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTES:
You have experience at Road America in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. Do you think that will give you an advantage this weekend?
“It’s crazy because that was such a long time ago. I don’t know if it will really give me any type of advantage. A lot of other drivers have been there more recently, so I’m sure the track has aged a little bit. I have leaned on some of my old teammates. Brendan Gaughan previously won there and I asked him for some advice and his notes. He printed out a great track map for me and wrote notes on it, so I’m pumped about that. I’m looking forward to Road America. The road courses have been pretty good to us this year and I want to keep improving on those. I’m going up early to try and get a feel for the track and see if I can even remember what it was like when I ran there, which was a long time ago. I know it’s a slick track. I’ve been on the simulator a lot. I’m just trying to do my best to get acclimated.

What do you think the key to performing well at Road America will be?
“It’s one of those places where you have to have an average lap in order to have a good lap, because there are so many chances to overdrive certain turns. You can lose a lot in one corner and gain a lot in another. You just have to put it all together it seems like. A little bit of racing the track goes on in these kinds of races. The restarts are going to be aggressive and wild. People will be going everywhere. I do expect some attrition in the race because there are some areas where you can wreck some stuff. Runoffs, grassy areas. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. You some really good races in the NASCAR Xfinity Series there so I’m sure the NASCAR Cup Series will be just the same. I’m just looking forward to the challenge. It’s a challenging place.

Do you think of yourself as a good road course racer?
“I’m getting there. I’m better than where I started going into this year, for sure. I’ve had some consistent finishes this year. I definitely think taking on the 24 Hours of Daytona race was helpful for that. I had to step outside of my comfort zone, and it’s pushed me to be a better racer. I’ve done some other things in the off season, too. We raced in January at COTA. It’s really just about getting more road course racing experience. I’m definitely more comfortable. I’m not going into these races just saying ‘hey can we salvage a day.’ I’ve gone to many races in my career on road courses just wanting to salvage a weekend, and now after Sonoma and some of the speed we’ve shown I think it’s a different conversation. We scored stage points at the Daytona Road Course, Sonoma Raceway, and at COTA we were just hindered by the rain. We’ve been solid at road courses but there’s always room for improvement and I’m pumped for the challenge.”

What road course does Road America resemble most?
“I think Sonoma relates the most to Road America because of the grip level at Road America, so we will take something similar but try to make our car turn a little better. I thought we had a definite top-10 car at Sonoma. We just had a loose alternator wire cause issues. We had to change the battery every stage and came back to finish 12th or 13th.”

You have a very unique paint scheme this weekend. Can you tell me about it…
“The Dow Salutes Veterans car has been going on for seven years now. It started out with 350 names on the car, and I think we broke our record. We’re at 1,903. It’s pretty awesome to see all of the veterans on the car from RCR, Dow and Team Rubicon. My buddy Tyler Rader, who used to be the gas man on my team, is on my car now. It’s cool just to see all of the connections to the military that we have across the board. Everyone is getting involved and it’s cool to see the spider web effect of names growing every year.

Tyler Reddick and the No. 8 Kalahari Resorts and Conventions Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE at Road America… This weekend marks the return of the NASCAR Cup Series to Road America for the first time since 1956, but Tyler Reddick has some experience under his belt at the 4.048-mile road course. Reddick has two NASCAR Xfinity Series starts at the track, with a best finish of third coming with Richard Childress Racing during his 2019 championship season.

TYLER REDDICK QUOTE:
Heading into Road America this weekend, you have some experience on the road course that some Cup veterans may not. How does that affect your preparation and expectations for the race weekend?
“Yeah, it’s nice going into the weekend with that experience. It makes me wish we weren’t having practice or qualifying so the Cup veterans could feel a little bit of what I felt heading into the Sonoma race weekend without turning a lap there! This weekend is going to be a great opportunity for our team. I feel like the approach you have for Road America is similar to that of COTA, and I felt really good about where we were with our car on the dry at COTA. We learned some things about our road course program at Sonoma Raceway a few weeks back, but that course isn’t as similar to Road America as COTA is. Road America is all about attacking the entry and nailing the apex. You don’t have to worry about drive-off as much as you do at Sonoma. I’m excited about the opportunity for my team and know we are bringing a great No. 8 Kalahari Resorts and Conventions Chevrolet to the track.”

Myatt Snider and the No. 2 Shore Lunch Chevrolet Camaro at Road America… Myatt Snider has one career NASCAR Xfinity Series start at Road America, coming last year during the 2020 campaign. Despite having a minimum amount of experience at Elkhart Lake, the 26-year-old has a plethora of familiarity with left and right turns. Snider competed in the NASCAR Euro Series in 2019.

MYATT SNIDER QUOTE:
What are the keys to success at Road America this weekend?
“Road America is a really tricky road course with lots of bumps and elevation changes, but it’s also one of my favorite tracks on the Xfinity Series circuit. Having a good day in Elkhart Lake takes a few things – hitting your marks right, keeping the car on the race track, having a good car and using the right strategy. We have a really good Shore Lunch Chevrolet Camaro for this weekend and Andy Street (crew chief) has been making great strategy plays all year. I feel really confident that we can keep our good momentum from Pocono going this weekend in Wisconsin.”

CORVETTE RACING AT WATKINS GLEN: Sprint Race Pole for Taylor

No. 3 Corvette just beats out Tandy, No. 4 C8.R in dynamic qualifying session

WATKINS GLEN, NY (June 26, 2021) – Corvette Racing’s Jordan Taylor followed up a victory in the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen with the GT Le Mans (GTLM) pole position Thursday for the IMSA WeatherTech 240 at Watkins Glen International.

A winner with Antonio Garcia on Sunday, Taylor set a time of 1:43.821 (117.895 mph) in the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C8.R ahead of Friday’s two-hour, 40-minute sprint race.

The time was a scant 0.224 seconds quicker than Nick Tandy in the No. 4 Corvette C8.R that he drives with Tommy Milner. Like Taylor, Tandy’s best lap – 1:44.045 (117.641 mph) – came on his final time around the 3.4-mile, 11-turn circuit on a quickly drying track.

It was the second GTLM pole in less than a week for the No. 3 Corvette with Garcia claiming the honors ahead of the Six Hours.

Rain pelted Watkins Glen throughout Thursday afternoon. The day’s lone practice session featured a mix of light and more moderate showers that left the track damp throughout. Conditions dried out for qualifying with both Corvettes opting for slick Michelin tires for qualifying.

Weather for the race could mirror what Corvette Racing experienced Thursday, giving team strategists and engineers plenty to think about before Friday evening’s green flag.

Friday’s race will air live at 6 p.m. ET on NBCSN and Trackpass via NBC Sports Gold. Live audio coverage from IMSA Radio is available on IMSA.com, XM 202 and SiriusXM Online 992.

JORDAN TAYLOR, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R – GTLM POLE-WINNER: “It’s great to be out front again. We were all glued to the TV watching Madison (Snow’s) qualifying trying to decide whether to go wets or drys. We knew he was on wets and a couple other guys were on drys, and they were way out for most of it. Then they bridged the gap on the last lap but not enough to get him. We thought maybe if they had a couple more laps, slicks would have been the way to go. So we committed to it. The first couple of laps were a little git sketchy but as soon as you built some temperature, the grip level was pretty high, other than (turns) 9, 10 and 11. You needed a nice rhythm to keep building temps, finding brake points and how much speed you could carry. I caught someone with two to go, which kind of broke the rhythm and kind of had me stressed the last lap. But thankfully everything worked out. When you are head-to-head with a guy like Nick Tandy, you really need to make the most of it. He’s a guy I’ve grown up watching and respected. So to go head-to-head with him, I knew I would be nailing everything and had to be on my A-game. I’m glad it worked out. It’s going to be a tough race tomorrow, but it’s nice to have Corvette Racing with another one-two.”

WAS THE RACING LINE DRY AND COULD THE SLICK TIRES WORK ALL THE WAY AROUND OR WERE THERE WET SPOTS? “To begin with, there were definitely wet spots in some of the short chutes between corners. Turn Nine was still pretty slick and 10 seemed a little slick. Everywhere else, it looked damp but you had to commit and trust that the grip was there. It was more of a mental game than anything. There definitely was a very narrow line. On a couple of laps, I got maybe six inches to a foot wide and you lose the front end of the car. You definitely had to be precise. By the end, everyone knew where the grip was and you could carry speed.”

NICK TANDY, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R – QUALIFIED SECOND IN GTLM: “It was an interesting day today because we got to run in the full wet conditions, we got to run with the wet tires in the dry conditions and then we got to run a slick tire in a wet to dry condition. You don’t often get that sort of thing in one day. It makes it difficult to plan what you are doing, or to make any plans. It’s kind of interesting in some regard because it is different. For the qualifying session, when it is like this you go out on slicks and you know every lap is getting quicker and quicker. It’s always difficult to know how hard to push the car on the tire. But that is why we are in the car to find out. The good thing is we have both cars with decent lap times and in one piece. I think it’s given us all good experience of what the weather could bring tomorrow.”

Derek Griffith to Make Camping World Truck Series Debut at WWTR

New Englander’s NASCAR Home Track to be co-primary sponsor for first National Series start

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (July 1, 2021) – Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) announced today that Derek Griffith will make his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut behind the wheel of No. 51 Tundra Aug. 20 at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway in Madison, Ill. The 24-year-old driver’s Toyota will carry co-primary sponsorship from JBL, the authority in engineering superior sound and Griffith’s NASCAR Home Track, Hudson International Speedway.

The New Hampshire native has posted three top-five and eight top-10 finishes across 10 ARCA Menards Racing Series starts the last two seasons. Griffith has also made three ARCA Menards Series East starts, picking up one pole, one top-five and two top-10 finishes. In his East Series debut at New Smyrna (Fla.) Speedway in 2020, he captured the pole and led a race-high 144 laps, before being relegated to a runner-up finish after falling back a spot on a late-race restart.

Griffith cut his racing teeth in the four-cylinder class at Hudson Speedway, a quarter-mile oval, located near his hometown, Nashua, N.H. He graduated to the Super Late Model Division at the track in 2012 and the New Englander has been on the rise ever since. Griffith has been recognized with such prestigious honors as being part of the Kulwicki Driver Development Program (2018-2019) and being selected as the No. 1 top prospect in short-track racing by a panel of industry experts, racers, media members and more in the 2021 Speed51 Short Track Draft.

Behind the wheel of a Super Late Model Griffith has numerous wins, including back-to-back World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing championships at New Smyrna (Fla.) Speedway (2020-2021), a sweep of the PASS Easter Bunny 150s at Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway (2021), the Thompson Icebreaker 75 at Thompson (Conn.) Speedway and the Freedom 300 at Lee (N.H.) USA Speedway (2020).

“I’m unbelievably thankful to have my hometown track, Hudson Speedway, providing me one of the biggest pushes in my racing career coming onboard as a co-primary sponsor with JBL on the No. 51 Tundra for the Camping World Truck Series race at World Wide Technology Raceway,” Griffith said. “I have been going to races at Hudson Speedway my entire life and began racing there at the age of 12, so it has a very special place in my heart.

“While Kyle has built KBM into the best team in the history of the Truck Series, I know that he still holds Super Late Model racers around the country in high regard and he’s given guys like Erik Jones, Harrison Burton and Chandler Smith a chance to showcase their skills at the national series level. I’m thankful to Kyle, everyone at KBM and Toyota Racing Development for this once in a lifetime opportunity and I’m looking forward to making the best I can out of it.”

“Derek has proven himself as one of the top young talents in Super Late Model racing in recent years, has been very competitive in his limited ARCA opportunities and is deserving of the opportunity the chance to make a start in the Camping World Truck Series,” Busch said. “As a Super Late Model racer myself, I know that to win some of the races he’s been able to win the last few years, he’s had to beat some of the best drivers in the country. Many of those drivers have the talent to compete at the National Series level but never get the chance, so to be providing Derek with this opportunity is really special and I know that he’ll do a great job for us.”

“I am beyond thrilled to have the opportunity to help Derek Griffith race in the Camping World Truck Series,” said Ben Bosowski, owner of Hudson International Speedway. “As a small, local track it is a true honor to help a local Hudson Speedway native reach his potential in the world of racing. Derek is an amazing, passionate, and talented young driver who absolutely deserves this opportunity. I am very excited to help be a part of this next stage in his career. I wish Derek nothing but the absolute best. All of us at Hudson International Speedway are very much looking forward to cheering him on!”

The No. 51 team, led by first-year crew chief Mardy Lindley, has scored three wins across 13 races this season. Owner-driver Kyle Busch was victorious at Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway and Kansas Speedway in Kansas City while Martin Truex Jr. won the inaugural Truck Series event at the Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway Dirt Track. Truex Jr. became the 16th different driver to win a Truck Series event for KBM and the 12th to collect their first-ever victory in NASCAR’s third division.

Road America NASCAR Xfinity Series Advance
No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing

NASCAR Xfinity Series Overview
• Event: Henry 180 (Round 17 of 33)

• Layout: 4.048-mile, 14-turn road course

Riley Herbst Notes of Interest

• Road-course racing has become a staple of the NASCAR Xfinity Series, especially of late. Riley Herbst, driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing, has accumulated all seven of his road-course starts in the last year. The 22-year-old racer from Las Vegas made his first Xfinity Series start on a road course on July 4, 2020 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. His best road-course finish is seventh, earned last August on the layout inside the Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway oval.

• Herbst has four other road-course starts outside of the Xfinity Series. His best result came in August 2017 at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, when he finished second in the ARCA Menards Series race.

• Saturday’s Henry 180 at Road America will mark Herbst’s 60th career Xfinity Series start and his second at the 4.048-mile, 14-turn road course. He has earned six top-fives and 25 top-10s dating back to his first career start on June 17, 2018 at Iowa Speedway in Newton, where Herbst finished an impressive sixth.

• After making the move to SHR at the conclusion of the 2020 season, Herbst now drives for the team that has won two road-course races in the past three years. Chase Briscoe, the previous driver of the No. 98 Ford Mustang, scored both victories – September 2018 at the Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway Roval and August 2020 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In addition, the No. 98 Ford Mustang has never finished outside the top-10 at Road America.

Riley Herbst, Driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang

We’re heading back to a road course with Road America on the schedule for this weekend. You scored a runner-up finish there in the 2017 ARCA Menards Series race. Does that help your confidence heading into the weekend?

“I definitely had a good run at Road America back in 2017. It’s a fun track and I’m excited to get back there this weekend. My first race in the Xfinity Series didn’t go how I would’ve liked, but we have a chance to practice and qualify this weekend, so hopefully that’ll help us on Saturday. We’ve had the speed this season, now we just need to put it all together and get a win so we can secure our spot in the playoffs this fall.”

Practice and qualifying are a part of this enhanced race weekend at Road America. How beneficial is this for you and the team?

“We learn a lot in these practice and qualifying sessions. I feel like we’ve had some pretty good races this year when we’ve had these sessions. You learn a lot about your team and they learn about what I need out of the car that weekend. It helps boost confidence if you have a fast car. It really helps us put the pieces of the puzzle together as we head into some of these tracks where I have limited experience.”

There have been a lot of ups and downs for you this season on road courses. What do you need at Road America to have a strong weekend for the No. 98 team?

“We need luck to be on our side this weekend. We’ve had a roller coaster of a season and, unfortunately, there have been quite a few times where we’ve just been in the wrong place at the wrong time. With that said, we’re learning what we can every race and moving forward to try and put strong runs together. I’m thankful to have the support of the No. 98 team and everyone at Monster Energy. Hopefully, I can get a win for them in Road America.”

Preview: The Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio Presented by the HPD Ridgeline

Chip Ganassi Racing has won nearly half of the INDYCAR races held at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course since 1996, which bodes well for Scott Dixon in his bid to win a record-tying seventh NTT INDYCAR SERIES championship this season. But that also bodes well for the driver he and the rest of the field are chasing for the series title.

Alex Palou, Dixon’s first-year teammate, has regained the top spot in the standings and holds a healthy 28-point lead over Arrow McLaren SP driver Pato O’Ward heading to the 10th of 16 races on the calendar. Dixon trails Palou by 53 points, a deficit that will take more than one race weekend to overcome. Only two other drivers – Team Penske drivers Josef Newgarden and Simon Pagenaud – are within 100 points of the series lead. Newgarden trails by 88, Pagenaud by 94.

All of which makes it imperative for those chasing Palou to gain ground in this weekend’s The Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio Presented by the HPD Ridgeline.

Twenty-six car-and-driver combinations are rolling into the permanent road course in Lexington, Ohio, for the 38th INDYCAR race held since 1980. The weekend schedule includes all three levels of the Road to Indy, with doubleheader races for Indy Lights and Indy Pro 2000 with USF2000 staging three races.

On-track activity will effectively be non-stop through Sunday’s main event. INDYCAR’s action begins Friday at 2:30 p.m. (ET) with a 45-minute practice live on Peacock, NBC’s streaming service. A second 45-minute practice, also on Peacock, will be held at 9:05 a.m. Saturday, with three rounds of knockout qualifying for the NTT P1 Award set for Saturday at noon (live on Peacock, delayed on NBCSN until 8 p.m.).

The 80-lap INDYCAR race is Sunday at noon on NBC, with the green flag set for 12:05 p.m. The INDYCAR Radio Network will have complete coverage on its affiliates, INDYCAR.com, the INDYCAR Mobile App powered by NTT DATA and SiriusXM Channel 205.

Among the storylines to monitor:

The Second Half
Applying a legendary quote from baseball great Yogi Berra, it’s getting late early in this NTT INDYCAR SERIES season.

Of course, a different, improving phase of a pandemic is part of that, but the calendar just turned to July and yet nine races have been held. Last year, only one had by this point.

Also, at Sunday’s checkered flag the season will be almost two-thirds completed, and for those drivers with significant ground to make up on the standings leader, the season finale won’t be a double-points race as it has been in recent years. Assuming all drivers participate in the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach on Sept. 26, those with designs on the title must be with 45 points of the lead to mathematically have a chance.

Thus, it’s time for many to get motoring. Include former series champions Dixon (No. 9 PNC Bank Grow Up Great Honda), Newgarden (No. 2 XPEL Team Penske Chevrolet), Pagenaud (No. 22 Menards Team Penske Chevrolet), Will Power (No. 12 Verizon 5G Team Penske Chevrolet), Ryan Hunter-Reay (No. 28 DHL Honda) and Sebastien Bourdais (No. 14 ROKiT/AJ Foyt Racing Chevrolet) in that group. Each is 88 points – or more – out of the lead.

A Large Field
Twenty-six cars are three more than competed in last year’s doubleheader at the 13-turn, 2.258-mile flowing road course, and the driver lineup includes returnees and newcomers.

Back in the lineup after recent injuries are Felix Rosenqvist (No. 7 Arrow McLaren SP Chevrolet) and Rinus VeeKay (No. 21 Sonax/Autogeek Chevrolet).

Rosenqvist missed the two most recent races – the back end of the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit on June 13 and the REV Group Grand Prix at Road America on June 20 – due to lingering effects from his abrupt, nose-first impact with the Turn 6 barrier in Race 1 at Belle Isle Park. VeeKay suffered a broken right clavicle in a cycling accident June 14, with surgery the next day forcing him to be held out of the Road America race. He was in Chevrolet’s simulator earlier this week and was cleared by INDYCAR’s medical staff Wednesday.

Santino Ferrucci will be back in Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s No. 45 Hy-Vee Honda for a fourth time this season, and he has had top-10 finishes in the first three, including finishing sixth in the 105th Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge. He finished sixth and 10th in the Detroit races.

The newcomer in the Mid-Ohio field is Ryan Norman, a two-time race winner in Indy Lights who has been driving for Bryan Herta Autosport with Curb-Agajanian in IMSA’s Michelin Pilot Challenge series.

A former motocross rider, the 23-year-old Norman hails from a Cleveland suburb, which makes Mid-Ohio his home track. The circuit is also one where he has a significant amount of experience, competing in six Indy Lights races with Andretti Autosport and testing last week in the No. 52 KOINU INU/EVO Honda of Dale Coyne Racing with RWR in which he will make his NTT INDYCAR SERIES debut.

This will be INDYCAR’s largest field at Mid-Ohio since the 2011 race when there were 27 cars.

Best Driver, Best Team
As mentioned, Chip Ganassi’s Indianapolis-team has dominated INDYCAR races at Mid-Ohio, winning 11 of 23 races since Alex Zanardi won the first of his two in 1996. Other race winners for the team include Juan Pablo Montoya, Dixon, Dario Franchitti and Charlie Kimball. The team won five in a row from 2009-2013, with Kimball’s win in ’13 the fastest ever at the track (117.825 mph).

Dixon has won at Mid-Ohio a record six times, most recently in 2019. His starting position hasn’t been a factor in the races he has won — he has started as high as the pole (2011) and as far back as 22nd (2014).

For capturing a sixth INDYCAR championship in 2021, Dixon is a leading candidate for Best Driver at the ESPYs. Fan voting, which plays a significant role in determining the annual winner, continues through 8 p.m. (ET) Friday, July 9. Votes can be cast at this link. https://www.espn.com/espys/story/_/id/31633865/espys-2021-vote-best-driver

Challengers Are Plentiful
For all of the Dixon and Ganassi dominance at Mid-Ohio, it was Andretti Autosport which fared the best overall last year.

Colton Herta (No. 26 Gainbridge Honda) led the team’s podium sweep of the second race, with Alexander Rossi (No. 27 NAPA AUTO PARTS/AutoNation Honda) and Hunter-Reay rounding out the podium and a top-five Honda sweep. Rossi won the 2018 race and finished third in last year’s first race, won by Power.

Power has been the best of INDYCAR’s Mid-Ohio qualifiers, earning the NTT P1 Award a record five times, including two of the past three.

Be mindful of the hometown motivation of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing and Meyer Shank Racing. Both teams consider this the second-most important race on the schedule after the Indianapolis 500 because both outfits either started in the Columbus area or still maintain facilities there.

The team co-owned by Bobby Rahal, David Letterman and Mike Lanigan fields 2015 Mid-Ohio winner Graham Rahal (No. 15 Fifth Third Bank Honda), Takuma Sato (No. 30 Panasonic/Mi-Jack Honda) and Ferrucci, while MSR co-owners Michael Shank and Jim Meyer have Jack Harvey (No. 60 AutoNation/SiriusXM Honda) primed for this event.

Pagenaud (2016) and Newgarden (2017) are also former winners at the track.

A Change in Race Distance
Last year’s two races at Mid-Ohio were 75 laps, lower than the standard 85 or 90 used since the resumption of INDYCAR racing in 2007.

For the first time in track history, INDYCAR will stage an 80-lap race, the goal to force teams to decide between making the strategy based on two stops or three.

“It just makes people do different things,” said Ferrucci, who finished 14th in each race last year. “You can either do fuel savings or you can run hard and fast. It definitely changes up the grid a little bit, and I’m looking forward to it. It will make the racing more entertaining.”

Zone Offroad Offers First to Market Lift Options for the 2021 Ford Bronco

Zone Offroad is excited to announce first to market lift options for the much-anticipated 2021 Ford Bronco. These two newly released lift kits are the first of many upgrades from Zone Offroad to increase the stance and help the Bronco conquer trails and go beyond. One-inch leveling kits are now available for both standard and Sasquatch-equipped Broncos. Two-inch lift kits are available for pre-order, designed for the non-Sasquatch-equipped Broncos with shipment anticipated in late-July.

The new lift options will help allow clearance for larger tires while working within the factory suspension parameters to offer improved clearance without sacrificing drivability. These newly released upgrades are the first of a wider range of Zone Offroad lift kits and accessories planned for the Ford Bronco that will be designed to build on the aggressive appearance and performance of the new trucks.

2021 Ford Bronco (All Trim/Shock Packages) 1” Lift System from Zone Offroad

Building on the Bronco’s four-corner coilover design, Zone Offroad offers a 1″ leveling kit designed to level out the stance and eliminate the factory nose-low rake. The Zone Offroad kit not only improves appearance, but also allows clearance for larger aftermarket wheel/tire packages without sacrificing drivability. The leveling kit uses a two-piece design with upper and lower strut mount spacers that are easy to install and provide the desired level stance on all Bronco models. The spacers are made of high-strength American steel, laser cut for a precision fit and finished in a durable black e-coating. Paired with the longer replacement hardware and step-by-step instructions, installation of the leveling kit can be completed within a few hours.

Features and Benefits

  • Kit levels stance without affecting ride quality or driveability
  • Allows clearance for aftermarket wheel and tire packages
  • Two-piece upper/lower strut spacer design for simple bolt-on installation to achieve level stance without the need to rotate the strut top hat
  • Does not require strut disassembly
  • No cutting involved in installation

2021 Ford Bronco Base, Big Bend, Black Diamond & Outer Banks 2” Spacer Lift System from Zone Offroad

Building off the impressive design and capability of the new 2021 Ford Bronco and its four-corner coilover design, the team at Zone Offroad are offering a 2″ spacer lift system designed for the base model (non-Sasquatch equipped) Broncos. The new 2″ spacer lift systems lift and level the truck’s stance and eliminate the factory nose-low rake and allow clearance for up to 35-inch tires.

The kit is designed to take advantage of the impressive suspension travel on the new Bronco, utilizing top-mounted strut spacers to raise the stance without sacrificing ride quality or overall drivability. The spacers are built from heavy duty semi-aromatic glass-fiber reinforced nylon resin, offering strength and a clean OE appearance once installed. Paired with the longer replacement hardware and step-by-step instructions, installation of the spacer lift system can be completed within a few hours.

Features and Benefits

  • Spacer lifts system lift and levels stance without affecting ride quality or drivability
  • Allows clearance for larger aftermarket wheel and tire packages
  • Top-mount design for bolt-on installation
  • Does not require strut disassembly
    • Strut must be slightly compressed to rotate the top hat
  • Designed to work within the operating limits of the factory upper control arm

Trans Am TA2® Grid Grows with NASCAR Entries for Road America

Top NASCAR talents like Newman, Bell, Mayer and more set to field TA2® cars at Road America

Elkhart Lake, Wisc. (1 July 2021)- American Muscle will be showcased this Independence Day weekend as more than 60 Trans Am drivers bring thunder back to Road America for the NASCAR Cup Series JOCKEY Made in America 250 presented by Kwik Trip July 1-4.

The TA2® class will tie a Road America entry record of 38 cars, the most drivers entered for the event since 2015. (VIDEO: TA2 Road America Highlights from 2020)

Coming off a flag-to-flag victory last week at Mid-Ohio, Rafa Matos leads the TA2® championship by 35 points over reigning class champion Mike Skeen (147-112).

Championship contender Thomas Merrill returns to the Mike Cope lineup after missing the last round at Mid-Ohio. While he missed out on Trans Am at Mid-Ohio, Merrill arrives to the Wisconsin dells hot off a victory last weekend at Watkins Glen in the LMP2 class.

Adam Andretti extended his TA2® drive with Peterson Racing, following a third-place finish in the TA2® class.

Local driver Adam Pecore is a sleeper this weekend in the TA2® class. Pecore recently purchased his No. 94 Camaro from BC Racing (formerly the No. 20), finishing seventh just last weekend at Mid-Ohio in his TA2® debut. Pecore, who has found most of his success in vintage racing and SCCA Road Racing, dominated the June Sprints at Elkhart earlier this year, winning in the GT2 class (similar car to TA2).

While the TA2® regulars will be looking to make the most of Road America in the championship battle, there will be another set of racers with a completely different agenda this weekend with a large contingent of NASCAR drivers targeting their own success.

With a high level of competition as well as a ruleset that puts the racing in the drivers hands with no driver aids, Trans Am continues to be the choice for a growing number of drivers looking to develop their road racing skills on the way to NASCAR glory.

Just this year, NASCAR driver development entries including Sam Mayer, Ty Gibbs, Mathew Butson, Connor Mosack, Brandon Jones, Derek Kraus and Natalie Decker, as well as NASCAR Cup team owner Justin Marks, NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series driver Scott Lagasse Jr. and NASCAR Xfinity driver and coach Michael Self have also all competed in Trans Am.

Fielding the No. 8 Jageman Stamping/QPS/M1-SLR Chevrolet Camaro, Mayer rejoins the TeamSLR crew leading the championship with two class wins in the new Trans Am ProAm Challenge. The local-Wisconsin favorite will be running beside his weekend teammates: up-and-coming NASCAR talents Connor Mosak and Austin Green, son of former NASCAR driver David Green.

With years of experience in NASCAR and Trans Am, TeamSLR’s Lagasse Jr. serves as the perfect mentor for the 18-year-old Mayer.

“I am lucky to have the opportunity to race with Scott Lagasse and TeamSLR,” said Mayer. “Scott has taught me a lot about braking and the minute things that add up to make a better lap. The TA2® cars are a similar drive on road courses to the ARCA cars, and getting this extra seat time with a driver like Scott is invaluable.”
Silver Hare Racing (SHR) and Mike Cope Race Cars are also driving young talent to TA2®.

Harrison Burton and Christopher Bell will join SHR at Road America for additional seat time prior to his Xfinity Race on Sunday. While Bell has participated in combined NASCAR/Trans Am events before, this will be his first outing with SHR. Self serves as the SHR’s Team Operations Manager and was the driving force to get Bell on its roster.

Following his first NASCAR Cup win on the Daytona road course in February, Bell thanked Self for the victory for all his help and road racing coaching.

“I first got introduced to TA2 back in 2015 through Justin Haley,” said Self. “I remember getting in his car for a few laps at Sebring and thinking, ‘Man, this is just like driving a NASCAR K&N car. I can’t believe more guys aren’t utilizing this. The package in terms of the transmission, brakes, tires and components are really important to utilize properly when trying to be a good road racer,” Self continued. Since then, I’ve vouched for the TA2® cars with everyone I talk to that wants to improve their road racing for NASCAR competition purposes, and I believe the results have continued to speak for themselves. As far as I’m aware, there’s still nothing else out there that translates to a NASCAR Cup or Xfinity car, or ARCA like the TA2 car does.”

Mike Cope Race Cars has also partnered with championship-winning NASCAR teams and drivers to develop skills and in some cases, just freshen them up ahead of events. The Mike Cope stable this weekend will include Xfinity driver Riley Herbst and 20-year NASCAR Cup veteran Ryan Newman.

With the new testing ruleset for NASCAR, drivers like Daytona 500 and Brickyard 400 winner Newman are seeking alternative options to prepare ahead of events. TA2® is the closest thing to getting seat time at Road America for NASCAR drivers, so Newman jumped on the chance to familiarize himself with the iconic course ahead of his Cup race on Sunday.

Combining the prowess of a purpose-built racing platform, relevant manufacturer power plants and a rules package that focuses on excellent cost containment, the TA2® class represents an outstanding value platform in racing. With engines capable of lasting an entire season and cost control measures that allow drivers to fully focus on racing, not the financing of it, while showcasing their talents and skill.

“We firmly believe that the TA2® class is not only a tremendous value for the competitors, but it is also an outstanding platform from the competition side,” said Trans Am President John Clagett. “We’ve attracted a lot of different kinds of racers to this class, and it is a testament to the structure of the class that some of the next guard of NASCAR racers are coming here as part of their development.”

Trans Am will feature in two 100-mile, 25-lap contests at Road America: the TA2® Muscle Car Challenge on Saturday and the multi-class TA/XGT/SGT/GT race on Sunday.

The TA2® field will participate in a test and practice day on Thursday. Friday morning the TA/XGT/SGT/GT classes will hold testing and practice before TA2® qualifies at 1:00 p.m. Central.

Saturday kicks off with back-to-back qualifying sessions for TA/XGT/SGT/GT classes starting at 8:20 a.m. Central. TA2® will take the green at 4:45 p.m. Central for a 100-mile sprint.
The weekend ends on Sunday with the TA/XGT/SGT/GT race starting at 8:00 a.m. Central.

The weekend will not be live streamed but event photos, videos and updates will be available across all @gotransam social media channels.
