Return Trip to Kansas Next Up for NASCAR Cup Series

·         NASCAR returns to Kansas Speedway this weekend for the second time in three months for a 400-mile race Sunday afternoon, the first event in the Round of 8 of the NASCAR Playoffs.

·         Sunday’s starting lineup will be set by three competition-based metrics, rewarding both season-long and single-race performance. Sunday’s lineup will be announced later in the week.

·         Four weeks of NASCAR action were completed prior to the COVID-19 hiatus with races at Atlanta, Homestead, Texas, Bristol, Richmond, Talladega, Dover and Martinsville postponed before the schedule later picked back up in mid-May.

Buescher Historically at Kansas

·         Buescher makes his 10th Cup start at Kansas on Sunday, where he has an average finish of 19.4 with two top-10s. Most recently at the track, Buescher was caught up in an incident this summer finishing 33rd.

·         His best run of sixth came in the fall 2017 event, and he ran 10th in the 2019 spring race.

·         He also made three Xfinity Series starts at the 1.5-mile track, with a best finish of sixth in 2015 in the No. 60 entry for Jack Roush.

·         He led Ryan Newman to a sixth-place run in 2014, and followed that with a seventh-place finish two years later in a five-race stretch where the two finished no worse than 12th (2014-16).

·         Most recently, Lambert led Daniel Hemric to the pole in this race a year ago, adding to his impressive 14.5 average starting position.

·         Lambert also called one Xfinity event with Elliott Sadler in 2012, finishing fourth after starting seventh.

QUOTE WORTHY
Buescher on racing at Kansas:
“I’m excited to get back to a 1.5-mile track and put together a solid day Sunday. Kansas is a really fast track, all the way around, and makes for some exciting racing throughout. We’ve had a stretch of some consistent finishes as of late, and we’re looking forward to getting back on track in the Fastenal Ford this weekend.”

Last Time Out

“Spire Motorsports is thrilled to showcase our relationship with Marwin Sports staring this weekend at Kansas Speedway,” said Spire Motorsports co-owner T.J. Charlotte Roval Recap: The #11 FedEx Ground Toyota started the race on the pole, but that was the only time Hamlin was at the front of the field during the 109-lap race around the road course/oval hybrid track. Morning showers required the field to start the race on rain tires and then make the decision of when to switch to regular racing slicks as the track dried. The changing conditions, plus rough contact in the corners, led to Hamlin spinning multiple times throughout the race. Despite trailing near the back of the pack for parts of the race, the #11 team was able to use pit strategy to get back up to third with 19 laps to go. However, a late pit stop was slowed when the pit crew had to work around body damage from earlier contact, knocking Hamlin back outside the top 25. He was able to rally in the remaining nine laps to cross the line 15th.

Kansas Preview: The NASCAR Cup Series heads to Kansas for the first event in the Round of 8 this weekend. “The Track That Will Blow You Away” will be the host on Sunday at 2:30 pm ET. Hamlin was reseeded second in the points standings behind Kevin Harvick after the Round of 12, but he will look to punch his ticket to the Championship 4 with a win at Kansas.

Hamlin Conversation – Kansas:

As you and the team look to Kansas, you’ve had success there in the past. How do you intend to use that experience?

“Our mentality is the same— win and win now. We’ve had success in the last two races at Kansas, and we’ll look to keep that going. I know my team is going to put a fast car on the track and then it’s up to me to get it across the finish line.”

There are three races left this season. What does it mean to you to be back in the position to possibly win your first championship?

“It means everything. I’ve been at it for 15 years, and to be back in a position to capture my first championship is everything. Right now I’m focused on Kansas, though, and how I can perform the best for myself and my team.”

2010 5.3L Silverado | AmericanTrucks Customer Builds

New Spotlight Video Helps Chevy Owners Visualize the Possibilities

PAOLI, Pa. (October 12th, 2020) – Aftermarket parts retailer AmericanTrucks (AT) releases a new video in their “Customer Builds” series. Hosted by AT’s Adam Maqboul, the virtual meetup features a 2010 5.3L Chevy Silverado owned by Roy Martinez. Chevy owners can browse Roy’s profile page on AT’s website for additional details, images, and a full breakdown of his mods list.

The video begins with a look at Roy’s suspension setup. As Roy admits, owning a truck is what kickstarted his interest in the off-road community. The leveled lift on a coil-over with some aggressive tires makes his Silverado look higher than it really is. Adam and Roy discuss his choice for a Barricade pre-runner style front bumper with skid plate. He wanted to incorporate the light bar and was pleased with all the additional options it offered. Running boards, fender flares, a cold air intake, and an aggressive-sounding muffler, are a few of Roy’s completed upgrades. He’s even added a full-size truck tent to complement his outdoor adventures. As the video wraps up, viewers will learn what’s on Roy’s wish list when it comes to future mods. It’s a project that shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

AT’s new series sheds light on the inspiration behind specific customer builds. This 2010 5.3L Silverado is a prime example of some popular parts and accessories truck owners will want to have on their radar. Customers can head to Roy’s dedicated spotlight page to shop his mods list, view additional images and read personal comments on his installation experience. The series has proved to be popular with AT’s customers. The retailer plans to release more videos in the upcoming months.                                                               ________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Tanner Gray – NGROTS Advance: Kansas Speedway

Track: Kansas Speedway, 1.5-mile oval
Race: 20 of 23
Event: Clean Harbors 200 (201 miles, 134 laps)

Schedule:
Saturday, Oct. 17
4:00 p.m…………..Race (FOX)
(all times ET)

Tanner Gray, No. 15 Ford Performance F-150

Tanner Gray is looking forward to racing at Kansas Speedway Saturday afternoon since it’s one of the few tracks where he has previous experience. Gray competed in the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series (NGROTS) doubleheader races there in late July in his No. 15 Ford Performance F-150.

Gray finished 18th in the first of two races there. He had been running in the top 10, but the team gambled on pit strategy by saving its last set of tires for a late-race caution which never happened. He rebounded to a fourth-place finish the next day for one of his best finishes this season. He also competed in the ARCA Menards Series race there that weekend. He overcame a restart penalty which put him a lap down early in the race to finish fifth.

In 19 Truck Series races to date this year, Gray has four top-five, seven top-10 finishes, has led four laps and sits 13th in the driver point standings. Of his four top-five finishes, three of them have been third-place finishes all within the last two months.

The Clean Harbors 200 from Kansas Speedway will be run on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 4 p.m. ET. The race will be broadcast live on FOX. The 134-lap race will be broken into three segments with stage-ending cautions on laps 30 and 60.

Gray on Kansas: “We were pretty bad in the first race at Kansas during the doubleheader in July, but we came back and ran good in the second race. A lot of it was strategy and how it worked out for us. I like places like that which widen out and you can kind of run all over the place. I’m looking forward to racing there again this weekend since I’ll be coming into it with more experience than most tracks I’ve raced on this season.”
Hailie Deegan, No. 17 Ford Performance F-150

Hailie Deegan will be making her first career start in the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series (NGROTS) Saturday at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City in the No. 17 Ford Performance F-150 for DGR-Crosley. The 19-year-old from Temecula, Calif., has been competing full time in the ARCA Menards Series this season.

Although Deegan has never made a lap in the truck, she does have previous experience at Kansas Speedway. She has two starts at the 1.5-mile intermediate track in the ARCA Menards Series, resulting in top-10 finishes in both races. Most recently she was ninth there for the race on July 24.

Deegan’s goal for this race is to run every lap and gain as much experience as she can. She knows her learning curve is steep for this race, but is looking forward to the challenge.

The Clean Harbors 200 from Kansas Speedway will be run on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 4 p.m. ET. The race will be broadcast live on FOX. The 134-lap race will be broken into three segments with stage-ending cautions on laps 30 and 60.

Deegan on Kansas: “I’m super excited for my first Truck Series race at Kansas on Saturday. This will be a big learning experience for me and it will help me qualify for any races I may do next year. It will be challenging with no practice or qualifying, and having to start in the back based on points. The competition in the Truck Series is very good, which will make this that much harder, but it will help my development so much. This is a big step for me and I’m excited to take on this learning curve.”

HARVICK NETS FIRST KANSAS FORD WIN

Kevin Harvick passed Martin Truex Jr. coming to the white flag and held on to capture his fifth victory of the season after winning at Kansas Speedway in 2018. Harvick, who started on the pole, had a competitive car all night as he led five times for 79 laps and finished second the first two stages. A series of late-race cautions set the stage for Harvick to rally after a red flag with 14 laps remaining reset the field. Even though Truex built a good-sized lead, Harvick was able to close the gap with three laps to go before making the decisive pass. The win gave Harvick back-to-back NASCAR Cup Series wins for the second time in 2018, a year that saw him win eight times overall.

KANSAS BACK-TO-BACK

Joey Logano became the first driver to automatically advance to the Eliminator Round of the Chase in 2014 as he took the lead from Ryan Newman with 29 laps to go and held off Kyle Larson to get his career-best fifth win of the season. In 2015, Logano ended up dueling with Matt Kenseth in a well-documented battle that resulted in contact as the two entered turn one with five laps to go. That controversial finish marked Logano’s second straight win in the Chase and led to a sweep of the Contender Round as he took the checkered flag the following week at Talladega Superspeedway.

UNDER COVER OF DARKNESS

A couple of rain delays and impending darkness couldn’t keep Greg Biffle from winning a shortened Lifelock 400 on Sept. 30, 2007. The race was delayed for more than three hours and NASCAR decided to shorten the distance from 267 laps to 210 laps when it became evident there wouldn’t be enough daylight to finish the event. Biffle passed Kevin Harvick on lap 274, but when Juan Pablo Montoya blew a tire to bring out the caution with four laps to go it appeared he would have to survive a green-white-checker finish in order to win. NASCAR, however, decided to end the race under caution due to darkness. The win was Biffle’s first of the season and snapped a 32-race winless drought.

ON THE MARK

Ford went to victory for the first time at Kansas Speedway on Oct. 9, 2005 when Mark Martin took the checkered flag in what was a Roush Fenway Racing runaway with teammates Greg Biffle and Carl Edwards finishing second and third, respectively. Martin led a race-high 139 laps, including 81 of the final 83 circuits, to win by one-half second. It marked the second time in as many months that RFR swept the top three spots, a feat it did two more times during that season. In addition, the victory ended up being Martin’s last with Ford. His 35 series wins with the manufacturer ranks third all-time behind leader Ned Jarrett (43) and second-place Bill Elliott (40).

BURTONS HOST WINNERS OF WBWF FUNDRAISER PROMOTION IN RIDE-ALONG AT SOUTH BOSTON SPEEDWAY

Photo Courtesy South Boston Speedway - Former NASCAR Cup Series standout and Daytona 500 winner Ward Burton and his son, NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Truck Series competitor Jeb Burton, treated five individuals from four states to a high-speed ride-along in a NASCAR race truck last Wednesday at South Boston Speedway. The five individuals received the ride-along opportunity through a promotion that was part of a fundraising effort for the Ward Burton Wildlife Foundation’s Next Generation Outreach Program. The ride-along participants included front row from the left Robert Bartholomew of New Mexico, Jason Carey of Idaho, Casey and Shawn Mesler of Ohio and Stephen Werkmeister of Richmond, Virginia. Back row from the left are Randy Johnson, founder of God’s Pit Crew, which donated the use of the truck, Ray Page representing LS Tractor, Brandon Divers representing Alsco, Jeb Burton, Ward Burton and Mike Roberts, naturalist and outreach educator for the Ward Burton Wildlife Foundation’s Next Generation Outreach Program.

South Boston, Va…Five individuals from four states received a big thrill last Wednesday as former NASCAR Cup Series star and Daytona 500 winner Ward Burton and his son, NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Truck Series competitor Jeb Burton, treated them to high-speed laps around South Boston Speedway.

Casey and Shawn Mesler of Damascus, Ohio, Jason Carey of Idaho, Robert Bartholomew of New Mexico and Richmond, Virginia resident Stephen Werkmeister won a ride-along with the Burtons in a NASCAR Truck through a promotion that was part of a fundraising effort for the Ward Burton Wildlife Foundation.

Jeb Burton said Wednesday’s ride-along event was a fun event.

“I’m glad to be here and glad to have the winners here,” he said with a big smile.

“Those guys are having fun. It gives them a first-hand experience behind the wheel of a truck. It’s a lot of fun. Hopefully we will get to do this next year, too.”

Proceeds raised from the fundraising effort went to the Ward Burton Wildlife Foundation’s Next Generation Outreach Program. The Next Generation Outreach initiative is geared to young people and brings classroom presentations to students across Virginia that combine science with resource conservation and stewardship.

Mike Roberts serves as naturalist and outreach educator for the Next Generation Outreach Program. Prior to working for the Ward Burton Wildlife Foundation, Roberts was the executive director and outreach educator for Return To Nature Inc. That organization conducted classroom programs for over 300,000 students in Virginia and Indiana and included limited visits to seven other surrounding states from 2000 until 2010.

Randy Johnson, the founder of God’s Pit Crew, a non-profit, faith-based crisis response team based in Danville, Virginia, donated the use of the organization’s two-seat NASCAR race truck for the ride-along event. The organization has over 700 volunteers participating on the crisis response team founded by Johnson in 1999.

Among the attendees were Ray Page representing LS Tractor and Brandon Divers representing Alsco. The two firms are among sponsors for the Ward Burton Wildlife Foundation’s Next Generation Outreach Program.

Ward Burton said the fundraising effort with the ride-along promotion was made possible by his son and Johnson.

“I thank my son, Jeb,” Ward Burton remarked.

“This was his idea and Randy’s idea. We were able to collect some good money for our outreach program. I want to thank Randy Johnson and all of the people with God’s Pit Crew. He is such a fabulous individual and the organization does so many great things for not only the people locally, but for people around the country. Randy, Jeb and I are talking about doing this same thing solely for God’s Pit Crew.

“I want to thank all of the participants,” he added.

“I also thank Cathy Rice and everybody at South Boston Speedway for letting us be here.”

Jeb Burton was appreciative of the support received for the fundraising effort as well.

“I thank God’s Pit Crew for allowing us to use the truck, along with State Water Heaters, Alsco, LS Tractor and Yamaha. They all help the Next Generation Youth Outreach Program,” he remarked.

“The program is very important. It’s important to teach kids about wildlife, conservation and the outdoors. The program, the truck and trailer, the gas needed to go up and down the road, and a full-time employee gets expensive. To have all of the support we have from our partners is great and we appreciate their help very much. It’s benefitting a good cause.

“We’re still looking for partners to get the program fully funded,” added Burton.

“Maybe we can branch out and do more schools than just in Virginia.”

Roberts said The Next Generation Outreach Program reached over 20,000 students last year and had reached right at 9,000 students this year before the program halted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The coronavirus has kind of got us halted, but we’re still doing some programs,” Ward Burton pointed out.

“We did a program for The Virginia Cooperative Extension Service and did a part of it at The Cove last Friday. Mike’s got another program with the Ag Extension Office in Halifax on Thursday.”

Burton pointed out programs have been held across Virginia.

“We’ve done programs in every Halifax County school,” he noted.

“We did programs in District 8 (which includes Halifax County) three semesters ago. We went to Southwest Virginia, started in Tidewater last December, and then the virus hit around March and kind of shut us down.

“We’re still dedicated to the program and know that anytime we can make a difference in a child’s life and help the teacher reinforce their mandated material about natural resources that’s a great opportunity to take advantage of.”

Todd Gilliland, No. 38 Speedco Ford F-150

Although Todd Gilliland was eliminated from the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series (NGROTS) playoffs two weeks ago, it has not taken away his determination to win this season. His next chance to do that will be Saturday at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City in the No. 38 Speedco Ford F-150.

This will be Gilliland’s third start at the intermediate track in the NGROTS. He earned his best finish there last year when he crossed the line third. He also finished 10th there in the second race of a doubleheader weekend in July after leading 15 laps.

In 19 starts this season, Gilliland has four top-five, nine top-10 finishes and has led 92 laps in the No. 38 Ford F-150 for Front Row Motorsports. He is 10th in the driver point standings after being eliminated from the playoffs two weeks ago at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway after an engine failure.

Speedco, part of the Love’s family of companies, will be back on Gilliland’s No. 38 Ford F-150 at Kansas. Love’s provides professional truck drivers and motorists with 24-hour access to clean and safe places to purchase gasoline, diesel fuel, fresh coffee, restaurant offerings and more. Love’s has more than 380 truck service centers, which include on-site and stand-alone Speedco and Love’s Truck Care locations. The Clean Harbors 200 from Kansas Speedway will be run on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 4 p.m. ET. The race will be broadcast live on FOX. The 134-lap race will be broken into three segments with stage-ending cautions on laps 30 and 60.

Quick Facts:
Number of Truck Series Starts at Kansas: 3
Best Start: 3rd (July 24, 2020)
Best Finish: 3rd (2019)
2020 Driver Point Standings: 10th

Gilliland on Kansas: “I enjoy racing at Kansas and after already racing there twice this year we have some good notes to work from this weekend. Our first race didn’t go how we wanted it to since we gambled on pit strategy and saved our last set of tires hoping for a late caution, which never came. That left us back in 20th place, but we rebounded the next day to finish 10th. We still have four more chances to win this season and we’re working hard as a team to make that happen.”

Dixon, along with former Formula 1 driver and current World Endurance Championship superstar Kamui Kobayashi, was part of the Konica Minolta team’s victory at the iconic Rolex 24 at DAYTONA race earlier this season, where the team won its third Rolex 24 title in four years.

Though the No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R team enters the Motul Petit Le Mans weekend leading both the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup Championship, the standings have remained extremely close throughout the course of the condensed 2020 schedule. The Motul Petit Le Mans has always been a strong race for the No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R team, with two victories and four podium finishes in the team’s seven years of competing at the ten-hour event.

The pilots of the No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R have also had great success at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. Renger van der Zande has one overall victory with the No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R team from 2018, one additional class win, and four top-three finishes. Ryan Briscoe has two class wins from 2008 and 2013, eight top-five finishes and four podium finishes. Scott Dixon has five top-five finishes and three top-three finishes at the classic endurance event.

“Petit Le Mans is one of the races that I love the most, “said Wayne Taylor who was the 1998 Inaugural Petit Le Mans winner. “It’s a track that the No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R team does well at. We have Renger van der Zande and Ryan Briscoe plus Scott Dixon back after our win at Daytona which is going to be very cool. I want to thank Konica Minolta, CIT, AMETEK, and Cadillac for continuing to support us during this season. The championship is getting closer, so the focus is on the overall standings and maximizing the final three races of the season. We just have to concentrate on running a good clean race with good pit stops and driver changes to hopefully end up on the podium or win. The competition is incredibly tight, but I know that we can get this sorted to win the championship.”

Practice for the Motul Petit Le Mans begins Thursday, October 15th at 11:15 a.m. ET with qualifying on Friday, October 16th at 1:20 p.m. ET. Race day coverage will start on Saturday, October 17th at 12:30 p.m. ET on NBC Sports.
RENGER VAN DER ZANDE, No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R
“I’m very much looking forward to Petit. We’ve done well there the past few years with one win and a second-place finish. We always do well during the long-distance races and it’s fantastic that we have Scott in the car with us this weekend. We’ve followed him in IndyCar this season where he’s been doing very well and see if he will become another champion next week. Wayne Taylor Racing always finds the stability during the endurance races and know how to win this race. We’ll see how it pans out, it’s a different time of the year, so weather can be a factor too. I wouldn’t mind a bit of rain.”

RYAN BRISCOE, No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R
“I’m really looking forward to our next race at Road Atlanta, the 10 hours of Petit Le Mans! We had a strong showing at the last six-hour race there and we have been working hard to come back even stronger. It will be great to have Scott back on board too! We have 3 races left and we will be pushing hard to extend our championship lead.”

SCOTT DIXON, No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R
“Looking forward to getting back in the Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R this weekend. They’re still leading the championship which is just the way we left Daytona. The goal is to get maximum points. I’m excited to get back to Atlanta for Petit Le Mans. Hopefully we can have a smooth day and weather is going to be good. Excited to get back racing, we have a couple weeks off in the IndyCar season, so it’s nice to have another race before the IndyCar Series season ends in St. Pete.

CORVETTE RACING AT ROAD ATLANTA: Petit Le Mans a Big Challenge

• Second event of 2020 at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta for Corvette Racing
• Program remains first and second in GTLM Drivers Championship
• Garcia, Taylor enter on two-race win streak
• Corvette Racing with eight class victories at Petit Le Mans
• Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta site of C8.R’s first public laps in 2019

DETROIT (Oct. 13, 2020) – In a normal season, Corvette Racing would be preparing for Petit Le Mans and the finale of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. But this is 2020 after all, so this season has been anything but normal. That means for the first time since 2009, Corvette Racing returns to Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta with the annual 10-hour Petit Le Mans not serving as its final IMSA event.

We say ‘returns’ because it’s the third time since early September that Corvette Racing and its pair of mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette C8.Rs have been at the 2.54-mile, 12-turn facility. It finished second in GT Le Mans (GTLM) category of the TireRack.com Grand Prix on Sept. 5 and then tested at the track two weeks ago. It served two purposes: validate engineering and Chevrolet simulator findings from the September race and give its two endurance drivers for Petit Le Mans some much-needed track time in the Corvettes.

As they have for most of the season, teammates Antonio Garcia and Jordan Taylor hold the GTLM points lead, as does Chevrolet in the Manufacturers standings. So far through eight rounds, Garcia and Taylor have won five times in the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C8.R, including the last two races at Mid-Ohio and Charlotte. Nicky Catsburg will rejoin them at Petit Le Mans for his first race with the team since January’s Rolex 24 At Daytona.

In the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette, Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner will look to finish one position higher than their runner-up class finish in September’s race. Gavin and Milner sit second in GTLM points and will be reunited with Marcel Fässler.

The test day at Road Atlanta was especially valuable for Catsburg and Fässler, who last drove the Corvette C8.R during a February test at Sebring International Raceway. They also will drive the Corvettes at the season-ending Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring in November.

Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta is one of Corvette Racing’s most successful stops on its annual racing calendar. The program has 10 victories to its credit at the circuit with eight coming in Petit Le Mans. Corvette Racing won for the first time at Road Atlanta 20 years ago with a thrilling, late-race pass by Andy Pilgrim.

There has been plenty of success in recent years although victory has eluded Corvette Racing in that span. At least one Corvette has finished on the GTLM podium in five of the last six races.

Petit Le Mans also was the site of the Corvette C8.Rs first public laps ahead of the 2019 race. The mid-engine C8.R is based on the strong foundation of the 2020 Corvette Stingray with both developed simultaneously. There is a deeper level of technology transfer between the race car and production Corvette than ever before, which helps contribute to many of its advancements. As a result, the C8.R shares the highest percentage of parts between the production and race car than any previous generation.

Initial design and development on the Corvette C8.R – with Corvette Racing engineers working alongside Corvette production personnel – began more than five years ago with track testing starting within the last 18 months. Heavy emphasis on wind tunnel and simulation aided in the testing program.

Petit Le Mans is scheduled for 12:40 p.m. ET on Saturday, Oct. 17 with live television coverage on NBCSN from 12:30-6:30 p.m., and 9:30-11 p.m. ET. TrackPass on NBC Sports Gold will offer live streaming of the full race. In addition, IMSA Radio will broadcast the race on IMSA.com, which also will host live timing and scoring. The race also will air on XM channel 202 and SiriusXM Online 972.

ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R: “There were a ton of things we learned from the race at Road Atlanta in September. There was a lot of tire degradation that we found, and I think it hit most of the cars. That’s one thing that really changed from years past. So we will need to monitor that. In this race, being consistent and not running into any problems or issues gives you an advantage over the rest of the field. It will be colder for sure and we will run into the night. Because of that, there are a lot of things we need to be proactive toward and make good progress ahead of the race. Finishing in the hotness of the day in September wasn’t very easy. Going into the night will be easier on the equipment although we will be in a long race.”

JORDAN TAYLOR, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R: “Petit Le Mans is always one of the highlights of the year and one everyone wants to win. Understanding the tires is the biggest part of this race. It’s one of the toughest tracks we go to in terms of high G-loads. Since we aren’t going to Watkins Glen or Canadian Tire Motorsport Park this year, this is probably the highest-load track we go to. Understanding what tire to use and how to manage it will be important. The conditions will be different than when we were there for the Six Hours. It was good to do that race. From a reliability standpoint, understanding what curbs we can hit without damaging the car is always important for a 10-hour race. It was good preparation.”

NICKY CATSBURG, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R: “The track is not the longest one but it’s super-nice with its change in elevation. It’s a very American track, and by that I mean there is no runoff and every mistake will be punished. Obviously the race will run into the dark, so you have that added element where it’s difficult to see. I’ve only done the race once, and it was difficult in the dark. It will not be easy for me to come back and easily adjust to the car. But it’s good we had the test a couple of weeks ago to help prepare. I’ve been watching Corvette Racing from home and they are really strong and fighting for the championship. Let’s not jinx it but it seems like a very strong first year for the C8.R. I’m really happy to be a part of it.”

OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R: “The Six Hours in Atlanta was really a great dress rehearsal for Petit Le Mans. We gathered a large amount of data from that race, and you get to see how you stack up against everyone else. The encouraging thing for Tommy and I is that we came away with a very strong second place. If a couple of other things had fallen our way, then we could have very easily come home with a victory. We now know what we have ahead of us for Petit Le Mans. We know where our car is strong, where our competition is strong and where they are weaker, where we can pass people… we have some things we need to tidy up, and the recent test was very positive and we came away with a few things. Since the end of the lockdown, we’ve kept finding setups, working through the car and areas where we can maximize things to make the C8.R a drivable, raceable sports car. I’m confident we’ll have a very strong car there.”

TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R: “It’s nice to have the Six Hours under our belts before coming back to Petit Le Mans. We definitely learned a lot about the car, the track and the tires. It should be a little bit cooler for the race but not by much. When we’ve tested here in the summertime, it’s quite hot and it’s not quite as hot when we come back for the race. So there’s much better data for that. Our test earlier this month was a chance to put to test some of the theories and ideas the engineers have to improve the car a little bit in places. I’m excited to come back for the race. The car was really good in the September race. It’s good to have gotten Marcel and Nicky some time in the car. That was important with the weekend always being too short once practices start. Having them up to speed will be super important.”

MARCEL FÄSSLER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R: “It was a long time since I was last in the new Corvette – in February for our Sebring test – before the recent session at Road Atlanta. It was nice to be back in the cockpit. It took a moment to get used to everything but I could feel how the car has improved since then, and our test went very well. For me, it was important to get back up to speed as quickly as possible. I’ve enjoyed every minute I’ve been in the car, and I’m looking forward now to the race. Petit Le Mans is a race I like very much. It looks like our Corvettes will be very competitive. The hope is to have a good weekend, and my goal is to help out my teammates Olly and Tommy to have a good result in the championship. There is still a chance of that, and I hope I can help them out somehow. I’m looking forward to it.”
