Joey Coulter and Rip It Energy Fuel Ready for ARCA Series Opener at Daytona

Earlier this month, Joey Coulter and Coulter Motorsports announced the continuation of their sponsorship with Rip It Energy Fuel in 2011. They will kick off the season together on February 12th with the ARCA season-opening Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 at Daytona International Speedway. Coulter will be driving the No. 16 Chevrolet again, sponsored by Rip It Energy Fuel and the Darrell Gwynn Foundation.

[media-credit name=”arcaracing.com” align=”alignleft” width=”233″][/media-credit]”I am thrilled at the chance to go out and represent Rip It Energy Fuel again in select races during the 2011 ARCA Racing Series season,” Coulter said in a press release. “They have become an integral partner in not only my career but Coulter Motorsports as a whole. Daytona is one of those tracks everyone wants to win at, and showcasing our sponsorship with Rip It makes it that much more special.”

Last year, Coulter earned one win, seven top fives and 10 top-10 finishes, along with the Bill France Four Crown Championship.

This year, Coulter is schedule to race five races during the 2011 ARCA Season – Daytona, Talladega, Michigan, Lucas Oil Raceway and Kansas. In preparation for the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200, Coulter piloted the car to the 10th-fastest position on the chart at 49.543 seconds.

“The (Daytona ARCA) test proved to be very beneficial, allowing me to adapt to the new, smoother pavement, and my Coulter Motorsports team to work on our cars,” Coulter said. “My guys did a great job and I want to especially thank Randy (Renfrow) for stepping in for me when I was gone. He really got the cars dialed in and setup for drafting. Michael (Chapman) did a good job setting the cars up identically, and I know he will make sure we bring back a rocket ship. I am excited to be back racing in 2011 and can’t wait for Daytona!”

Also this season, Coulter also will be competing for Rookie of the Year in the Camping World Truck Series, driving the No. 22 Silverado for Richard Childress Racing. Rip It Energy Fuel also announced they’d serve as an associate sponsor on his truck.

“It just all fell together so fast,” Coulter said. “It was unbelievable. For me, it’s like a dream come true. Best Christmas present I’ve ever gotten. It’s a wonderful opportunity.”

Coulter got a phone call from Richard Childress following the final race of  the season at Rockingham, where the opportunity was offered. The season opener at Daytona next week for the Camping World Truck Series will be his first truck race.

“We’ve gotten to test twice,” Coulter said. “We went down to Disney World Speedway in Orlando and tested for a good, solid day and a half. Then just last week, I was in Gresham for a day, doing a short-track test.

“Man, what a piece of equipment. It’s unbelievable the caliber of equipment that comes out of these shops. Compared to an ARCA car, they’re different but they weren’t as different as I thought they were going to be. I really expected it to be something I hadn’t ever really felt before but it was pretty close.”

Coulter has already got the chance to work with teammate Austin Dillon at Disney World Speedway.

“Yeah, he gave me lots of advice,” Coulter said. “It helped out a ton. After talking and testing it at Disney World for that day and a half, we kind of figured out that our driving styles are pretty close. We’re able to share information and our crew chiefs can communicate real well, so we’re really going to be able to learn a lot off each other.

“They learned a lot already off our short-track test. They weren’t able to make it down there, but they were able to learn off the notes we brought back. Being able to use all their notes from last year should be able to give us a baseline for the places I’ve never been before.”

Offseason Surprise Leads to Entry in Budweiser Shootout for Regan Smith

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 9, 2011) — The best piece of news that Furniture Row Racing driver Regan Smith received during the offseason was that he qualified to participate in NASCAR’s traditional opener – the Budweiser Shootout, scheduled for Saturday night (FOX), 8 p.m. ET.

When NASCAR released the new qualification criteria in mid January for the non-points, 75-lap, 187.5-mile race at Daytona International Speedway, Smith was on the list of eligible drivers based on his status as a former NASCAR Sprint Cup rookie of the year (2008). It will mark the first time in Smith’s Cup career that he will compete in the Budweiser Shootout.

“I was both surprised and ecstatic when I heard the news,” said the 27-year-old Smith. “The Budweiser Shootout is not only a prestigious event, but also an excellent opportunity to get our Furniture Row Chevrolet dialed in for the main show — the Daytona 500 (Feb. 20). Actually, it’s a morale boost for the entire team to be involved in the race instead of watching it on television or on top of our hauler.”

The thought of starting a new season for Smith and the No. 78 Denver, Colo.-based team brings on optimism, optimism and more optimism.

“The slate is clean and I am sure all of the teams head into the new campaign with high hopes,” stated Smith. “Our higher-than-normal excitement level is based on how we progressed throughout the 2010 season, especially during the final 10 races. We also understand that racing can be a cruel sport and knock you down just when you think you have all the pieces of the puzzle in place. Right now all of our attitudes are nothing but positive.”

The 2010 season started off slow for Smith, which was expected since he only competed on a part-time basis for Furniture Row Racing the previous year. But with a new competition staff, led by crew chief Pete Rondeau and competition director Mark McArdle, the team steadily improved and turned heads during the stretch run, which saw Smith post three top-13 finishes in the final seven races. He also qualified in the top 10 in the last three races.

“We had a good offseason and are raring to go,” said Rondeau, who took over the crew chief role in May of last year. “I have a good feeling — the potential is there to be more successful than last year. I’m an even keel type of person, and what we need to do is to continue to stay focused and not get ahead of ourselves.”

The Budweiser Shootout will be conducted in two segments of 25 and 50 laps with a 10-minute break between segments.

Laura Bell Bundy to perform Pre-, Post-Race Concerts and National Anthem for 2011 Budweiser Shootout

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Country music singer/songwriter Laura Bell Bundy will perform at the 33rd annual Budweiser Shootout on Saturday, Feb. 12 at Daytona International Speedway.  Bundy will perform a pre- and post-race concert in addition to the National Anthem for the non-points star-studded NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event.

Bundy will perform three songs prior to the Budweiser Shootout on the Pre-Race Stage as well as the National Anthem, which will be carried live on FOX. After the checkered flag waves on the 75-lap race, Bundy will perform a 60-minute post-race concert from the Sprint FANZONE Entertainment Stage.

Sprint FANZONE/Pre-Race access holders will be able to view the pre-race concert from the tri-oval grass while all ticket holders will have access to the post-race concert, which will start in the Sprint FANZONE approximately 30-minutes after the end of the race.

After a successful run on Broadway, Bundy has been a rising star in the country music scene with the release of her debut album “Achin’ and Shakin’ ” in the spring of 2010 with hit singles such as “Giddy On Up” and “Drop On By.”   On Broadway, Bundy originated the lead role of Elle Wood in the Broadway music “Legally Blonde,” for which she received a Tony Award nomination. She also originated the role of Amber Von Tussle in the Tony-Award winning Broadway musical “Hairspray” and played Glinda in the smash hit “Wicked.”

Offstage, Bundy has appeared in films including “The Adventures of Huck Finn,” “Life with Mikey” and “Jumanji.” She appeared in the 2006 film adaptation of “Dreamgirls” as well as in television with a recurring guest stint on the hit CBS comedy “How I Met Your Mother.” Last December, Bundy co-hosted the red carpet at the American Country Awards with Charissa Thompson and Michael Waltrip on the Speed Channel.

“The addition of Laura Bell Bundy to what already promises to be a great night of racing on the high banks is a tremendous win for our fans,” Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood III said. “NASCAR’s best drivers will compete for the first time on the newly paved surface, and Laura’s great performances will book-end an unforgettable night at the ‘World Center of Racing.’ ”

The Budweiser Shootout, NASCAR’s season-opening non-points event, is the climax to a racing doubleheader.  The Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards is set for 4:30 p.m. followed by the Budweiser Shootout at 8:10 p.m., which will feature former NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champions, the 2010 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup field, a host of former outstanding rookies and a collection of previous winners at Daytona International Speedway.

Tickets for all Speedweeks 2011 events, including the Budweiser Shootout, are available online at http://www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com or by calling 1-800-PITSHOP.

Mike Wallace ready to take on new Daytona surface with some newness of his own

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (February 9, 2011) – Mike Wallace knows what it takes to tackle the high-banked action at Daytona International Speedway, and he’s proven it before with three trips to Victory Lane.

Now, the NASCAR Nationwide Series driver for JD Motorsports just needs to take that winning knowledge of the 2.5-mile superspeedway and apply it to the newly-paved surface, while driving a newly-designed race car, with a new crew chief and a newly-structured points system. For a veteran like Wallace – that’s no problem.

This year marks the third season Wallace will pilot the No. 01 Chevrolet for JD Motorsports. After pairing together for the past two seasons, owner Johnny Davis brought in winning-crew chief Brad Parrott to lead the team’s on-track effort this season.

The new points system not only favors the fans by making it easier to add them up after a race, but the new NASCAR rule where a driver can only declare for championship points in one series favors that series’ regulars.

All these changes were just fine with Wallace, who has won in three different series at Daytona.

Track Facts for Wallace:In 21 NNS starts at the Daytona, Wallace has completed 2,154 of 2,376 laps (90.7 percent) earning one victory, two top-fives and four top-10 finishes. He’s also led 35 laps, with his victory coming in the 2004 July race by leading the only – and most important – one at the checkered flag. Wallace has also won a Camping World Truck Series (Feb. 2000) race and an ARCA event (1994) at Daytona.

Owner’s Points Ease Pressure:By finishing 25th in the 2010 NNS Owner’s Standings, Wallace won’t have to worry about qualifying for the first five races as the top 30 are good to go already.

Car Facts:JD Motorsports is bringing down the same car they used in the June 2010 race at Michigan International Speedway. After four races with the new car last year, the NNS will utilize the car in all races this season.

Mike Wallace quotes About the new season and points system: “I am so ready for the 2011 season to start. We’ve been working on our cars in the shop and Brad Parrott has really done a great job in the short time he’s been with us at JD Motorsports. The new points are easier to add up for everyone when the race is over and I like how it’s structured. If you want to gain five more points, you have to pass five more cars, not two if you’re running in the mid-pack or one if you’re up front. By NASCAR making drivers declare for championship points in only one series, it gives teams like us a chance to have true Nationwide rankings. I like what they’ve done in that area.

Being in on Owner’s Points: “Let me tell you something about that deal. We came here in 2009 having to qualify in on time. There’s an enough pressure to start the season off right after working on your Daytona cars through a lot of the off season. To come down here and sweat it out to make the race is awful. Thank goodness we ended up where we did last year to know we’re good to go for the first five this season. We just need to concentrate on racing, which is a good thing.”

Key to Winning at Daytona: “I have been fortunate to win three races at Daytona. Each one is special because of the history of all the winners at this track. I feel we have just a good of a chance as anyone to get to Victory Lane here. That’s one thing about the draft – it’s the great equalizer. Everyone I’ve talked to who tested here already said the track is incredibly smooth and has great grip. Aside from the draft, you just need to race smart and be there at the end when they wave the checkered flag. New track, new cars, new crew chief – what more could a driver ask for to start a new season.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 9, 2011) — Tire Kingdom®, a leading brand of automotive service centers for the Florida-based TBC Retail Group, announced that it will be the primary sponsor in Todd Bodine’s quest to compete in NASCAR’s three national racing series for Germain Racing at Daytona International Speedway.

A 36-time NASCAR winner, Bodine is entered in the No. 30 Tire Kingdom Toyota Tundra for the Feb. 18 Camping World Truck Series race, the No. 15 Tire Kingdom Toyota Camry for the Feb. 19 Nationwide Series event and the No. 60 Tire Kingdom Toyota Camry for the Feb. 20 Daytona 500 Sprint Cup Series opener.

Along with winning the series title last year, he also took home the truck championship in 2006.

Bodine’s truck record at Daytona has been impeccable with two wins, two runners-up, a third and a fifth for a finishing average of 2.3 in six starts. Bodine’s overall truck record includes: 21 wins, 82 top fives and 106 top 10s in 165 starts.

“I am very excited to have Tire Kingdom and Valvoline for all of my races in Daytona and being part of the Service Central Racing program,” said Bodine. “It does not happen often that you get to represent one great company, let alone two in all three races in a weekend. Hopefully with a little luck we can run up front and get into Victory Lane.”

Bodine, a native of Chemung, N.Y. and the youngest (46) of the three famous racing brothers with Geoffrey and Brett, has a career total of 238 Cup starts (including four in the Daytona 500) and 324 Nationwide Series starts. He has captured 15 victories in the Nationwide Series.

“It is with great honor that we can bring world class brands such as Tire Kingdom, Service Central and Valvoline together with Germain Racing and our reigning NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion, Todd Bodine,” said team owner Bob Germain Jr.  “It is a perfect complement in both brand and sport, and a partnership we are very much looking forward to cultivating as we have done with Valvoline.”
