David Starr Looking for Change of Fortune

David Starr and the SS Green Light Racing team will head to the oldest track on the NASCAR circuit this Saturday hoping to change the misfortunes of the early season in which the veteran NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver was caught-up in an accident not of his doing in back to back races. The early struggles have left Starr outside of the top-twenty in the drivers point standings as the SS Green Light team brings the No. 81 Zachry Toyota to the Too Tough to Tame 200.

From 2002 to 2004 Starr strung together three straight top-ten finishes at the track some refer to as “The lady in black” before the NCWTS took a five-year break from racing at the track built in 1949. The track was re-paved in 2008 and the truckers returned to NASCAR’s oldest track last season where David finished twelfth.   “Darlington is one of my favorite tracks,” explained Starr. “With all the history there it’s just really cool just to be there and to be racing on that track. You know, all the greats have won there. Darlington, it’s the track too tough to tame. When I think of NASCAR history I think of Daytona and I think of Darlington.”   “I love racing there, you run wide-open in one & two and obviously you have to get off the gas going into turn three,” an excited Starr said. “You need to be able to get back on the gas coming out of four, you’ve got to have a great handling race truck, you need good power underneath the hood, the pit crew, everyone has to do their job to run up front at Darlington.”   “It’s always a tough track to race on, you have to respect it and that being said it’s still tough. I’m excited about it. I just love racing at Darlington. Heck, I wish we had two races at Darlington each year.”   “We just need a little luck to fall our way this week and get our Zachry Toyota back up in the points.” Darlington is one of the few “stand alone” races on the NCWTS as the Trucks have top billing this weekend as both the Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series are idle until next week at Bristol.   SS Green Light General Manager Bobby Dotter is looking forward to this week’s race, “The guys have rebuilt one of our trucks from last year. It’s got a new clip and new Toyota Tundra body on it and we’re real excited to get to the track, it’s pretty close to a new piece. We’ve had fast trucks in each of the first two weeks, hopefully we’ll have some better luck this week.”   David has four career NCWTS starts at the Darlington Raceway; with three top-ten finishes. David’s average start is a stellar 9.5 and his average finish is 8.5, the second best of any of the tracks on the current NCWTS schedule. He has completed all but one lap in the previous four races at Darlington.   The Too Tough to Tame 200 is the 248th consecutive NCWTS start for the SS Green Light Racing team and the 268th career start for Starr in the series.   There are 39 trucks are on the preliminary entry list for the Too Tough to Tame 200.   Practice for the NCWTS Too Tough to Tame 200 will be Saturday March 12th from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. to noon with qualifying at 3:15 p.m. The race will be shown live on SPEED TV at 5:00 p.m. All times Eastern. It will also be broadcast live via radio worldwide on the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and on SIRIUS Satellite Radio NASCAR Channel 128-XM104.   Zachry Holdings, Inc. is engaged in the planning, building and renewing of the world’s most critical industrial facilities.
