Joey Logano and No. 20 Home Depot Team – Michigan International Speedway Advance

Joey Logano   No. 20 Home Depot Toyota Camry Pure Michigan 400 – Michigan International Speedway    The Home Depot Team Notes of Interest

·         Michigan International Speedway (MIS) has been a good track for Logano and the No. 20 Home Depot Team.  Logano has five starts at the two-mile track and three top-10 finishes.  He has completed all but one lap of competition which occurred during his rookie race there.  The team was in position for a top-10 finish in June at MIS when a late-race caution waved to slow the event.  Varying pit strategies foiled the team’s day and Logano finished the race in the 18th position.

·         Walk with Logano:  Logano will participate in the Coca-Cola Family Track Walk prior to the Pure Michigan 400 on Sunday.  The walk, which begins at 9 a.m., promotes active family fun and gives fans a unique opportunity to interact with Logano and other NASCAR drivers.

·         Logano moved up three spots in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver point standings following his fifth-place finish at Watkins Glen International on Monday.  He is now 17th in the standings and just 12 points out of the top 15 heading into Michigan International Speedway.

·         Did he or didn’t he? Logano taped an episode of the Travel Channel’s Man vs. Food Nation on Monday following the race in Watkins Glen.  Logano was tasked with eating an “Atomic Bomb” from Sticky Lips BBQ in Rochester, N.Y. in under 30 minutes. Tune in to the Travel Channel on Oct. 19 at 9 p.m. to see who was the victor, Logano or the Atomic Bomb?

·         This week on twitter, the power of commercials: @jlogano “Couldn’t sleep at all last night I was wide awake at 4 30. off to the airport now flying home.” Responses by his follower, “Did Kyle Busch keep calling you!? #EspnCommercial.”

·         About the last weekend: Logano and The Home Depot Team have become a force to reckon with on the road courses in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.   The team followed up its sixth-place finish at Infineon Raceway in June with a fifth-place finish at Watkins Glen.  Logano started from the 13th position, ran a clean race and earned his first top-five finish at a road course in his Sprint Cup career.

·         Crew Chief Greg Zipadelli and the No. 20 Home Depot Team are taking chassis #319 to Michigan this weekend.  Logano drove this chassis a few weeks ago at Pocono where he started from the pole and led several laps before a cut tire with less than 15 laps to go dropped him out of the top 10.The back-up chassis is #309 that Logano most recently drove at Kentucky Speedway.

·         Welcome aboard The Home Depot associates from store #424 from Happy Valley, Ariz.  The store number will ride along with Logano this weekend in the Irish Hills of Michigan.

Logano Quotes: “We’ve had a great couple of months as a team.  Watkins Glen was a solid weekend for The Home Depot Team and the week before we qualified well and led laps in Pocono.  If it wasn’t for that cut tire we’d be sitting like 15th in points.  We stuck to our game plan at The Glen, Zippy (crew chief Greg Zipadelli) had a two-stop strategy, I kept the car on the track and we put ourselves in position to finish in the top 10 and came away with a top five.  That’s what we need to keep doing.  We’ve found the consistency the last couple of months that we lacked at the start of the season due to a lot of things out of our control.

“Heading into Michigan we have a lot of confidence as a team.  We’ve run well there in the past, and I have no doubt we can put together another top 10 – top five run like we were doing at Pocono and The Gen and put ourselves in contention for a win.  It’s going to be an easy weekend compared to last week since I’m just running the Cup race.  I will be able to focus in and try and put The Home Depot Toyota in victory lane and see if we can’t snag one of the wildcard spots for the Chase.”
