Kahne at Darlington Raceway: By the numbers… In nine NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) starts at Darlington Raceway, Kahne is credited with one top-five and four top-10 finishes with a total of 46 laps led. He has an average starting position of 14.2 coupled with an average finishing position of 12.2.

In NACAR Sprint Cup competition at the track nicknamed “Too Tough to Tame,” Kahne has collected four poles, as well as three top-five finishes with 295 laps led. On the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series side, Kahne is two for two having claimed the win in each of his two career starts at the track (2004 and 2011).

In the loop… According to NASCAR’s loop data statistics, Kahne sits in the top-10 in several categories including Fastest Drivers Early in a Run (7th), Fastest on Restarts (9th), Green Flag Passes (4th), Green Flag Speed (9th), Laps in the top-15 (7th), Laps Led (4th), Quality Passes (8th) and Speed in Traffic (9th).

Who’s on the pit box? Mike Shiplett joined Turner Motorsports in 2012 and has a unique role as he calls the shots for both a veteran (Kahne) and a rookie (Brad Sweet). It is a reunion of sorts for Kahne and Shiplett, who were paired together in the NNS during the 2007 season and put down impressive results including two victories (Charlotte Motor Speedway and Bristol Motor Speedway, spring events).

This Week’s Impala… The No. 38 team will unload chassis TMS-325 this weekend at Darlington Raceway. This chassis last saw track time at Auto Club Speedway where Brad Sweet brought home a sixth-place finish.

In Brad’s World … Brad Sweet’s been busy over the last couple of weeks, competing in World of Outlaws races for KKR. Sweet raced in Sedalia, MO at the Missouri State Fair Speedway and then the famed Knoxville Raceway in Iowa. Sweet will return to the NNS to pilot the No. 38 Great Clips Chevy at Iowa Speedway on May 20th.

Turner Strong… With Brandon McReynolds’ dramatic victory on Friday afternoon at the 2.66-mile Talladega Superspeedway, Turner Motorsports has captured victories in all the series in which it has entered thus far in 2012.  In 14 races, the powerhouse team has four victories, two poles, and has had at least one entry finish inside the top-10 in all but two races.

Kahne and Sweet: a unique combination… Not only are Kahne and Sweet good friends off the track, but the veteran is serving as mentor to Sweet as he makes the transition from open-wheel competition to stock cars. Sweet was handpicked by Kahne in 2008 to drive for Kasey Kahne Racing (KKR) where he has since experienced tremendous success in the World of Outlaws Series. Sweet will continue to compete on a limited basis for KKR when he is not behind the wheel of the No. 38 Great Clips machine in the NNS. You can expect Kahne to be very involved and present in the NNS garage when Sweet is behind the wheel of the No. 38 as he will closely monitor his progress and offer encouragement.

Kahne brought Great Clips their first win! From 2003-2005, Kahne and his sponsor, Great Clips, Inc., reached momentous milestones, including capturing Kahne’s first Nationwide Series victory in 2003 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. It was also Great Clips’ first win as a primary sponsor. In 2005, Kahne captured his second career win at Texas Motor Speedway before leaving the Nationwide Series to allow more time for his Sprint Cup Series efforts.

Great Clips goes racing with the World of Outlaws in 2012! Great Clips serves as sponsor for KKR driver Joey Saldana this year in the World of Outlaws series. The Minneapolis-based company has been a sponsor of KKR for the past two seasons. This year, they will be featured on all three KKR entries – as a primary sponsor on the #9 with Saldana as well as associate sponsor placement on Brad Sweet’s #49 and Cody Darrah’s #5 World of Outlaws cars.

12 Years and Counting… Great Clips, Inc. is currently the longest-running sponsor in the NNS and has used the Nationwide Series as their primary marketing platform for the last 11 years. Their sponsorship began in 2000 with Akins Motorsports as they climbed on board to sponsor the team’s No. 38 entry with driver, Christian Elder. Mark Green piloted the No. 38 for one season before general manager, Doug Stringer, hired up-and-coming talent, Kasey Kahne, thereby solidifying Great Clips’ commitment to their NASCAR sponsorship.

Kahne on racing at Darlington Raceway

“Darlington is a track that can sneak up on you. It’s just a really fast track with a good amount of banking. You run right by the wall, every lap. If you lose just a little bit of focus you can get in the wall very easily. Most cars get a famed Darlington stripe on them before the race is over. It’s one of my favorite tracks because it’s demanding, it’s technical and things can happen really quick. This Great Clips team has been strong all season so far. We are able to run up front and contend every week. We all want to get this Great Clips Chevy into victory lane and maybe we can make that happen on Friday night in Darlington.”

No. 31 BRANDT Chevrolet News and Notes

Weekend Rewind: Talladega – Even though it was inevitably going to happen, Justin Allgaier and his No. 31 BRANDT team missed the “Big One” at Talladega Superspeedway over the weekend. With the help of spotter Eddie D’Hondt, Allgaier navigated through the late-race, multi-car accident which occurred on lap 117 of the race. After losing his drafting partner initially on the second green-white-checkered attempt, Allgaier found his teammate James Buescher who he pushed to the checkered flag, the two finishing seventh and eighth, respectively.

Allgaier at Darlington Raceway – A huge fan of the 1.366-mile egg-shaped oval, Allgaier will make his fourth career start this weekend at Darlington. In three previous starts he has some impressive stats, scoring two top-five and two top-10 finishes with an average starting spot of 11.3 and average finish of 8.7. Allgaier has completed 100 percent of the laps he’s attempted (447) at the track as well.

Follow The Leader – According to NASCAR’s Darlington Pre-Race Stat Book, Allgaier leads the way in laps led among NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) regulars with 23. He ranks fifth among all drivers.

Come See Me – Allgaier will make an appearance this weekend in the T4 Hospitality Zone at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. While there, he will interact with fans through a Q&A session as well as talk about the racing at his favorite track.

Turner Motorsports Strong – After capturing the ARCA Series win at Talladega Superspeedway last weekend with Brandon McReynolds, Turner Motorsports has captured victories in all three series it has entered thus far in 2012. In 14 races, the multi-series team has four victories, two poles, and has had at least one entry finish inside the top-10 in all but two races.

This Week’s Impala – This weekend, Allgaier will pilot TMS-322 in the VFW Sport Clips Help a Hero 200 at Darlington Raceway. This car was last raced at Las Vegas Motor Speedway where the BRANDT team scored an eighth-place finish after starting eighth.

Allgaier on returning to Darlington Raceway:

“Darlington really is my favorite track so I am very excited to get back there to race. I think one of the reasons I like it so much is because the two ends of it are so drastically different. You can have the car handling well in turns one and two, but then it’s a nightmare in three and four or vice versa. You definitely have to find the balance and be able to keep the car off the wall to be able to get a good finish. Darlington is one of those places that you just have to respect. More likely than not, you’re going to leave with one of those famous “Darlington stripes” whether you want to or not. We are bringing back the same BRANDT Chevy we used out in Las Vegas and it was a pretty solid car, so I’m looking for more good things from it this weekend as well. I’d love to get to victory lane at this track. It would be really special for me and this team.”

James Buescher on driving at Darlington Raceway

“I am really excited about going to Darlington [Raceway] this weekend. It is a great track with a rich history.  As a driver, you have to drive the car differently at each end of the speedway.  Turns 1 and 2 are really fast and you barely have to crack the throttle.  You carry a lot of speed through the center of the corner and down the back straightaway.  Turns 3 and 4, on the other hand, are very technical. You have to slow the car way down and it really has to be able to turn in order to get a good run up off.  It is a fun track where you can run side-by-side all day long.  We had a really strong run last week in Talladega and this Turner Motorsports team is continuing to build momentum each and every week. I am really looking forward to this weekend and trying to get the AccuDoc Solutions Chevrolet to victory lane.”
