Pit Notes: Fun Food and Facial Hair

Friday, May 18, 2012 PIT NOTE #4

FOOD FIGHT AT AMS – If Joey Logano and Greg Biffle have their way, Atlanta Motor Speedway’s new Taste of Coca-Cola concession stand will debut with the full line of delicious cola-inspired foods created by Levy Restaurants’ chef Frank Abbinanti.

Logano and Biffle helped announce the new concession stand, which will debut during the Labor Day AdvoCare 500 weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway, during a press conference Friday at Charlotte. With mouths full, both drivers proclaimed the lineup of new recipes – including Coke Zero Braised Beef Tacos, Coca-Cola Chili Dogs, French Fries with Coca-Cola dipping sauce, Georgia peaches and Sprite Elephant Ears and Cherry Coke BBQ Pork Sandwiches with Vidalia onion rings – to all be delicious.

“In racing, somebody always loses, but you can’t lose with any of this,” Biffle said. “I’m going with the taco and the dog as my favorites, but none of this is bad.”

Logano agreed with Biffle’s assessment but said the dessert also warranted serious consideration for best of show.

“I don’t want to stop eating,” Logano said. “I think this is about two tenths for qualifying right here.”

Atlanta Motor Speedway President Ed Clark said the concession stand was created to offer fans a taste of delicious local ingredients offered with a unique twist… one provided by Coca-Cola, whose world headquarters is located just a few miles away from the Atlanta superspeedway.

Media members and fans are asked to vote on their favorite items, and the winners will be featured at the Taste of Coca-Cola concession stand at Atlanta Motor Speedway’s Labor Day weekend event. To vote, go to www.atlantamotorspeedway.com/vote.

GROW ONE – If Kevin Harvick starts looking a little scruffy in coming weeks, forgive him. He’s doing it for a good cause.

Harvick and his crew pledged not to shave as part of Budweiser’s “Grow One. Save a Million” program, which is designed to help save one million gallons of water for World Environment Day (June 5). Media members and fans are encouraged to join the movement; sign up at www.Facebook.com/budweiser or text “Grow One” to BEERS (23377) to take the pledge to skip shaving for two weeks and save an estimated 70 gallons of water.
