TEAM CHEVY DRIVER QUALIFYING NOTES & QUOTES

June 2, 2012

JIMMIE JOHNSON, NO. 48 LOWE’S/MADAGASCAR CHEVROLET – QUALIFIED SECOND WHEN YOU GOT OUT OF THE CAR YOU WERE SHAKING, YOUR HEART WAS STILL BEATING THAT FAST? “Yeah, I’ve still got that qualifying tremble going on.  Regardless of how many times you come here when you get a good lap it gets your attention.  I feel like there is some speed still out there.  A little uncomfortable for my lap, from watching the telecast as well I saw a lot of cars uncomfortable, I really hope it sticks.  We have a great looking race car with Madagascar 3 on it.  My Chevy has been very fast and it’s clearly a track I love.  I am hoping for good things.”

RYAN NEWMAN, NO. 39 QUICKEN LOANS CHEVROLET – QUALIFIED THIRD ON HIS LAP: “Well it was a good run for the Quicken Loans Chevrolet that is the most important part.  It gets us good pit selection and things like that on a pit road that can be treacherous at times.  I think the No. 55 is going to be really good and the No. 56.  We will see if we can hold on to a top five.  I’m happy to be back in better qualifying order than we have been.”

KURT BUSCH, NO. 51 PHOENIX CONSTRUCTION SERVICES INC. CHEVROLET – QUALIFIED 9th YOU SAID YOUR QUALIFYING LAP WAS A LITTLE BIT SNUG.  WHAT ARE YOUR FEELINGS ON HOW IT WILL RACE ON SUNDAY? “I have been loose here a bunch of times and lost speed.  I feel confident in the lap.  No matter where we end up I had one of those moments right before I went out.  I said you know James Finch has given me a lot.  This team has worked really hard.  Our car doesn’t have a sponsor on it.  Here we are, we are going out with the big dogs to qualify we everybody all the big teams.  We are working as hard as we can.  This car is available for sponsorship and partnerships that are available, teams that want a program with us.  Thanks to these guys. I’ve got the Monster suit on right now because I’m going to jump in Kyle’s (Busch) KBM (Kyle Busch Motorsports) car and it’s just neat right now.  With everything that is going on I’m still having a blast.”

JEFF BURTON, NO. 31 BB&T CHEVROLET – QUALIFIED 15th ARE YOU SATISFIED THAT YOU HAVE A GOOD CAR OR FRUSTRATED WITH THAT CORNER? “Well I thought we had a really good car in race trim.  We never could lay down just one good lap time.  Our car was really consistent we got it driving really well.  That was a big improvement for us on qualifying trim.  Hopefully, it will be 20th or something like that so we don’t have to dig out of such a big hole.”

DALE EARNHARDT JR., NO. 88 AMP ENERGY/DIET MOUNTAIN DEW CHEVROLET – QUALIFIED 17th

YOU CALLED YOUR LAP DECENT; YOU ALSO DESCRIBE THIS RACE TRACK AS UNIQUE AND FUN YOUR THOUGHTS FOR SUNDAY? “I’m really looking forward to the race.  I really can’t get enough racing.  I’m pretty happy with the way the qualifying run was.  We were struggling yesterday we were kind of down in the dumps a little bit about our car.  It’s not the fastest lap we will see today but it was definitely an improvement from what we were doing yesterday.  We will see.  The Diet Mountain Dew/National Guard Chevrolet should race pretty good.  I’m looking forward to it.  I like racing this track it changes, the rubber builds up on the surface and makes the cars drive real crazy.  Everybody has to kind of figure their way around it; it’s a lot of fun.”

JEFF GORDON, NO. 24 DUPONT CHEVROLET – QUALIFIED 14TH

ON HIS LAP

“Well, we haven’t qualified good here in a while so we definitely tightened-up the car a little bit extra this time because we’ve been so loose here so many times here recently. And that was a good thing. The car definitely had good grip. I just got a little bit too tight off of (Turn) 2 and I had to ease out of the gas a little bit there. That cost us a little bit of time, but all-in-all, it was a good solid lap for the DuPont Chevrolet. It’s going to be a lot better than where we qualified here last time we were here. I think we were like 34th or 35th last time.”
