No. 30 Ron Jon/Quiksilver Chevrolet News and Notes

This Week’s Impala… The No. 30 Ron Jon/Quicksilver Chevrolet Impala team will bring chassis TMS-317 to Friday night’s superspeedway race at Daytona International Speedway. TMS-317 is the same chassis which captured the win at the season-opening race at the “World Center of Speed.”

Welcome Aboard… Turner Motorsports is pleased to announce the addition of Ron Jon Surf Shop and Quiksilver to their sponsor lineup. The companies will adorn the sheet metal of the No. 30 Turner Motorsports Chevrolet under the lights on Friday night at Daytona International Speedway. Ron Jon Surf Shop was founded in 1959 by surfing enthusiast Ron DiMenna. Two years later, he opened a tiny oceanside shop in Long Beach Island, N.J. The lifestyle-apparel and board-sports-equipment retailer has since opened stores in Cocoa Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando, Ft. Myers, Key West, Panama City Beach, Clearwater Beach, Fla., as well as in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The store in Cocoa Beach is the world’s largest surf shop. It operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. More information at www.ronjonsurfshop.com. Quiksilver is a surf retail company based in Huntington Beach, California and is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of surf wear and surf-related equipment. Quiksilver sponsors many amateur and professional athletes in the action sports realm including Kelly Slater, Travis Rice and Tony Hawk. More information at www.quiksilver.com.

Come and See Me… James will visit the Ron Jon Surf Shop on Saturday, July 7th at noon EST to spend time signing autographs and taking pictures with fans. The store is located at 4151 N. Atlantic Ave, Cocoa Beach, FL 32931.

Winner Winner… Buescher captured his third win of 2012 in dominant fashion last Thursday night at Kentucky Speedway. He is in the thick of the 2012 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) championship battle as he only sits nine markers out of the points lead. In addition to his two NCWTS wins, the 22-year-old captured his first career NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) victory at Daytona in dramatic fashion in February of 2012.

Nice Stats in Daytona… James Buescher has seven starts behind the wheel of a stock car at the “World Center of Racing.” In those seven starts, the 22-year-old has accumulated two wins, and one pole, along with five top-10 results.

Watch and Listen… The Subway Jalapeno 250 powered by Coca Cola 300 can be seen live on Saturday, July 6th on ESPN. Race coverage will begin at 7:30 p.m. EST. The event can also be heard live on MRN Radio as well as Sirius Satellite Radio, channel 90.

James Buescher on driving at Daytona International Superspeedway

“Returning to Daytona [International Speedway] is special for me and this entire No. 30 Ron Jon/Quiksilver Chevrolet team. We had a great car here in the spring and rolled into victory lane. That is something that everyone on this team is very proud of. To say that we are Daytona champions is something we have all dreamed of.

We have had a great first half of the season and I feel like we are getting better every time we get on the race track. [Crew chief] Trent Owens and all the guys on this team work their butts off to make sure that we have great cars every week and it has paid off. I am looking forward to seeing what we can do in the second half of the season. We are really excited Ron Jon and Quiksilver have jumped on board and hope to get them to victory lane on Friday night!”

No. 31 BRANDT Chevrolet News and Notes

Weekend Rewind: Kentucky I – The BRANDT team survived triple-digit temperatures and an intense windstorm to tie their season-best finish of the 2012 season. Even though he fought with a tight-handling racecar through most of the 200-lap event, Justin Allgaier came away with a fifth-place finish and led four laps in the Feed the Children 300. Allgaier also moved up one spot to fifth in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) point standings.

Allgaier at Daytona International Speedway – Allgaier will make his eighth-career start at the 2.5-mile superspeedway on Friday night. In seven previous starts, the Illinois-native owns two top-five and three top-10 finishes with 11 laps led. Allgaier has an average starting position of 15.1 and an average finishing spot of 19.1. His track-best finish is fourth, which came back in 2010. In the season opening event, Allgaier finished 33rd after being collected in a multi-car accident.

Dash4Cash Qualifying at Daytona – This Friday’s race at Daytona is the qualifying event for the first Nationwide Series Dash4Cash (D4C) race, a four-race bonus program created by Nationwide Insurance to reward and recognize series-only drivers. The four races will be back-to-back this year and run from New Hampshire Motor Speedway through Iowa Speedway.

Collecting Bonus Points – Because NASCAR awards additional points for laps led during a race, it often becomes part of a team’s race strategy to be at the head of the field whenever possible. This is no different for the BRANDT Racing crew. Allgaier has led laps in six of the last seven NNS events for a total of 23 laps and six bonus points.

At the ‘Half-Way’ Mark – While it’s not exactly numerically half-way through the season, many see the second Daytona race as that milestone on the NNS schedule. Through 15 races, Allgaier has notched two top-five and nine top-10 finishes with 25 laps led. He has an season-average starting position of 9.8 coupled with a 12.4 average finishing spot.

Come See Me – Allgaier will participate in the hour-long NNS Autograph session at Daytona International Speedway this Friday beginning at 4:30 p.m. The session is being held in the Sprint FanZone.

This Week’s Impala – This weekend, Allgaier will pilot TMS-318 in the Subway Jalapeno 250 powered by Coca-Cola at Daytona International Speedway. The superspeedway chassis last saw action at Talladega Superspeedway in May where Allgaier finished eighth after starting 13th.

Allgaier on returning to Daytona:

“I really enjoy the summer event at Daytona and I’m anxious to get back there. There’s just so much history and nostalgia around this event and track, especially with the Fourth of July holiday this week. I’m hopeful we can get the guys together and maybe catch some fireworks on the beach before hitting the track on Thursday for practice. I’m excited to be bringing our Talladega car to the race this week. It was quite a workhorse for us in that race and I’m hopeful it can play that role for us again. I really feel that we have as good a shot as anyone to get to victory lane on Friday night and I’d love to take all the BRANDT guests there to celebrate a win.”

No. 38 Great Clips Chevrolet News and Notes

Previous experience at Daytona International Speedway… Sweet has made one career start at the famed Daytona International Speedway. Sweet got his first experience with the complexities of restrictor-plate racing and drafting in the 2011 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) season-opener. In that event, Sweet started 10th and finished 21st.

Drafting experience this season… The Grass Valley, Calif.-native got another dose of restrictor-plate racing earlier this season at Talladega Superspeedway, where he ran solidly in the top-10 and at times, in the top-five, before a late-race accident cut his day short.

Special “House Crashers” Paint scheme on the No. 38… Celebrating “Crashers Week” on DIY Network, the No. 38 Great Clips Chevy will look a little bit different on Friday night under the lights of Daytona. In a “House Crashers” episode that first aired on June 25th, Sweet and Kasey Kahne helped to remodel a Charlotte, NC family’s garage into a Great Clips Racing themed garage. The show will re-air this week on DIY during “Crashers Week” which celebrates fan-favorite episodes. Visit www.diy.com for more information. For a clip from the show, visit the Turner Motorsports Facebook page.

Who’s on the pit box? Mike Shiplett joined Turner Motorsports in 2012 and has a unique role as he calls the shots for both a veteran (Kasey Kahne) and a rookie (Sweet). It is a reunion of sorts for Kahne and Shiplett, who were paired together in the NNS during the 2007 season and put down impressive results, including two victories (Charlotte Motor Speedway and Bristol Motor Speedway, spring events).

This Week’s Impala… The No. 38 team will unload chassis TMS-126 this weekend at Daytona International Speedway. This is a brand new chassis in the Turner Motorsports stable.

Kahne and Sweet: a unique combination… Not only are Kahne and Sweet good friends off the track, but the veteran is serving as mentor to Sweet as he makes the transition from open-wheel competition to stock cars. Sweet was handpicked by Kahne in 2008 to drive for Kasey Kahne Racing (KKR) where he has since experienced tremendous success in the World of Outlaws Series. Sweet will continue to compete on a limited basis for KKR when he is not behind the wheel of the No. 38 Great Clips machine in the NNS. You can expect Kahne to be very involved and present in the NNS garage when Sweet is behind the wheel of the No. 38, as he will closely monitor his progress and offer encouragement.

Kahne brought Great Clips their first win! From 2003-2005, Kahne and his sponsor, Great Clips, Inc., reached momentous milestones, including capturing Kahne’s first Nationwide Series victory in 2003 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. It was also Great Clips’ first win as a primary sponsor. In 2005, Kahne captured his second career win at Texas Motor Speedway before leaving the Nationwide Series to allow more time for his Sprint Cup Series efforts.

Great Clips goes racing with the World of Outlaws in 2012! Great Clips serves as sponsor for KKR driver Joey Saldana this year in the World of Outlaws series. The Minneapolis-based company has been a sponsor of KKR for the past two seasons. This year, they will be featured on all three KKR entries – as a primary sponsor on the #9 with Saldana as well as associate sponsor placement on Brad Sweet’s #49 and Cody Darrah’s #5 World of Outlaws cars.

12 Years and Counting… Great Clips, Inc. is currently the longest-running sponsor in the NNS and has used the Nationwide Series as their primary marketing platform for the last 11 years. Their sponsorship began in 2000 with Akins Motorsports as they climbed on board to sponsor the team’s No. 38 entry with driver, Christian Elder. Mark Green piloted the No. 38 for one season before general manager, Doug Stringer, hired up-and-coming talent, Kasey Kahne, thereby solidifying Great Clips’ commitment to their NASCAR sponsorship.

Sweet on racing at Daytona

“I’m can’t wait to race under the lights at Daytona! The Great Clips/ DIY House Crashers Chevy looks great and if Daytona and Talladega were any indication, she’s going to be fast! We had a great run going in Talladega earlier in the season but got caught up in a crash toward the end of the race. That’s how these restrictor plate races go though. I think as a group, we are confident going into this weekend’s race, with the feeling that we have as good a shot at it as anyone.”
