DOVER, Del. – Dover International Speedway will step outside the box a bit on July 20-22, 2012, as it is set to play host to the inaugural Firefly Music Festival, presented by Red Frog Events. With 48 national musical acts set to perform throughout the three day event, including The Killers, The Black Keys, Jack White, John Legend, The Flaming Lips, Death Cab for Cutie, Modest Mouse and more, Firefly is expected to become the East Coast’s premier music festival.

While a major music festival is certainly something new to the Monster Mile, putting on a major event is not, as the track plays host to two triple-header NASCAR race weekends each year. Along with Red Frog, Dover is taking the excitement outside of the oval for this event, though, and rebranding RV Lot 10 as The Woodlands at Dover International Speedway, an area that will serve as festival grounds.

The Woodlands will feature four stages, with bands rotating on a schedule throughout the weekend. In addition, there will be a host of amenities, such as The Brewery Tent, presented by Dogfish Head Brewery; hot air balloon rides; a wine vineyard; an arcade featuring games like skeeball and foosball; and many more.

Michael Tatoian, executive vice president and COO of Dover Motorsports, Inc., said while Firefly is a first-time venture, Dover International Speedway’s experience in putting on large events has the venue more than prepared for the festival this weekend.

“Twice a year, we welcome tens of thousands of people to our property for NASCAR race weekends in the spring and fall,” Tatoian said. “That experience from our standpoint has been very beneficial in helping plan for Firefly with Red Frog Events. A large influx of people to the track and its land is nothing new, and we’re confident we can help Firefly attendees have the same fantastic experience we provide for race fans every year.”

Much like NASCAR races at Dover, the inaugural festival is attracting attendees from at least 48 different states. In addition, the local economic impact is expected to reach more than $8 million.
