MARTINSVILLE SPEEDWAY AND PEPSICO EXTEND MULTI-YEAR BEVERAGE SPONSORSHIP
Renewal celebrates 65-year partnership
MARTINSVILLE, Va. (August 22, 2012 – Martinsville Speedway and PepsiCo today announced an extension of their 65-year partnership with a new multi-year beverage contract. PepsiCo beverages, including iconic brands such as Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Gatorade, Aquafina and Brisk, will continue to be exclusively served at the track, while Pepsi will remain the official soft drink of Martinsville Speedway. The renewed agreement continues one of the longest running partnerships in the history of racing.
When Martinsville Speedway first opened its gates in the fall of 1947, race fans were able to enjoy a cold Pepsi while watching the action on track. Fast forward 65 years and nothing has changed. Nor will it any time soon.
“When my grandfather (H. Clay Earles) opened Martinsville Speedway in 1947 he wanted to have the best concession items possible for our fans and he made sure our concession stands were stocked with Pepsi products,” said Clay Campbell, President of Martinsville Speedway. “Sixty-five years later it remains the same and that’s the way it’s going to remain. When you are serving the best, there’s no reason to change.”
“Martinsville Speedway has been a valued partner of ours for 65 years and we’re excited that this renewal will continue to bring our popular beverage brands to racing fans,” said Heidi Sandreuter, Senior Director, Sports Marketing of PepsiCo North America Beverages. “We have a long legacy of supporting the racing industry and are looking forward to building on our extensive relationship with this truly legendary track.”
PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay snacks are also sold at the track through Martinsville Speedway’s foodservice distributor Americrown.
About Martinsville Speedway Founded in 1947 by the late H. Clay Earles, Martinsville Speedway is only track remaining on the NASCAR Sprint Cup circuit that hosted an event in the series’ inaugural year, 1949.
Purchased by International Speedway Corporation in 2004, Martinsville Speedway has grown with the times to offer modern, state-of-the art fan amenities while offering the same, exciting racing it has for six decades.
The .526-mile oval hosts two NASCAR Sprint Cup races each year, along with two NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races and several smaller events.
