From 8th to 28th in Points: After the first three races of the 2013 season, Eric McClure and his TriStar Motorsports team sit 28th in NASCAR Owner Standings. They have slipped 20 positions since the season-opener in Daytona as a result of two engine failures during competition in both Phoenix and Las Vegas.
McClure’s Glad to be Home: The Jeff Foxworthy’s Grit Chips 300 marks the Virginia native’s 203rd Nationwide Series start and his 14th at his hometown track of Bristol Motor Speedway. In 13 starts, the half-mile bullring hasn’t been favorable to the 34-year-old driver as he has only completed 79.7% of the total laps attempted and has an average finish of 30.2. In both events last season, McClure posted a 27th-place finish.
Chassis No. 5: McClure will be piloting chassis No. 5 during this weekend’s event. The car was previously used by Mike Bliss during last weekend’s race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway where he finished 17th. Bliss crashed his primary car four hours prior to the event during practice. McClure raced this chassis two weeks ago at Phoenix Int’l Raceway where he posted a 29th-place finish as a result of an engine failure with 13 laps remaining in the event.
Bristol Appearance Schedule: Prior to Saturday’s Jeff Foxworthy’s Grit Chips 300 at BMS, McClure will be making several appearances in the area. The first appearance is at Wal-Mart 599 (3200 Fort Henry Dr) in Kingsport, TN from 11:00am (ET) – 12:00pm (ET) on Thursday, March 14th, followed by Food City Race Night at the Knoxville Expo Center from 6:00pm (ET) – 8:00pm (ET). McClure will also be making an appearance on Friday, March 15th at Food City Race Night at Bristol Motor Speedway from 5:00pm (ET) – 6:00pm (ET).
Vegas Recap: McClure started the 300-mile event from the 24th position after rain canceled practice on Friday. As a result, NASCAR scrapped qualifying and allowed the drivers the chance to practice their cars before the race on Saturday. Two laps into the event, the No. 14 Hefty®/Reynolds® Camry was forced into the garage with an engine failure. This relegated the team to a 40th-place finish.
Tune-In: Saturday’s 300-lap race from the “World’s Fastest Half Mile” will be televised live on ESPN 2 at 1:30pm (ET). PRN (Performance Racing Network) and SiriusXM Radio Channel 90 will also broadcast the event live on Saturday, March 16th.
