Driver Appreciates Multiple Grooves, Tire Fall-Off
STATESVILLE, N.C. (April 9, 2013) – For Josh Wise, the older the track surface the better. That’s why he’ll enjoy hitting Texas Motor Speedway this weekend for Saturday night’s Sprint Cup Series race. The driver of the No. 35 MDS Transport Ford says he likes track surfaces that have aged over the years, such as Texas, and provide for tire fall-off.
Wise says the 1.5-mile Fort Worth oval provides multiple grooves, giving a driver more racing options to find where the car runs best. He has three career Sprint Cup starts at Texas, plus six starts at the track in the NASCAR Nationwide series.
Comments from MDS Transport team driver Josh Wise heading to Texas:
“It seems like a lot of places have been recently repaved in the last couple years. I definitely enjoy the tracks with aging surfaces like Texas where the tires fall off. You get multiple racing grooves and you’ve really got to move around and try to find places for your car to work, so it’s a place I look forward to going to.
“A lot of these places we go to where the tires fall off more, it seems we start off with everyone in line on the bottom for the first five to 10 laps and then you go anywhere you can think of to get your car to work at that point. After your tires start to fall off, you can start searching around to try to find something.
“I’m proud of our MDS Transport team for battling through Martinsville last week. That’s a race where you usually get banged up quite a bit and you’ve just got to keep it together to make it to the end. It might not be pretty, but that’s OK. You just have to be there at the end. We got banged up but made it to the finish and we learned a lot for the fall.”
