Ambrose Ready to Master ‘Tricky Triangle’

No. 9 DEWALT Ford Team Knows Importance of Month of June

CONCORD, N.C. (June 4, 2013) – Although some may think it’s too early to be talking about the “Chase for the Sprint Cup,” Marcos Ambrose and the No. 9 Richard Petty Motorsports team know it’s not the case. Ambrose will visit the ‘Tricky Triangle’ this weekend looking to master the three, very different turns at the Pocono (Penn.) Raceway. Carrying the DEWALT colors, the No. 9 Ford team will also be looking for a win to help secure a spot in the “Chase.”

Ambrose has posted two top-10 and three top-15 finishes in his eight starts at the 2.5-mile track. Ambrose showed speed in both events last season. He qualified ninth and fifth and brought home 13th and 10th-place finishes.

Comments from DEWALT Ford Fusion Driver Marcos Ambrose:

“We know that we need to get some wins to get into the ‘Chase,’ and we leave the shop each week feeling that we can get the job done. I just feel really blessed with the opportunity to race with this team. We haven’t had things go the way we have hoped so far, but it doesn’t mean that we feel we’re out of contention for anything.

“We know that we can get on a roll and grab a few wins and be in the Chase. At the same time, we have no time to waste. It’s June and we have good races for us coming up, but we want to grab a win sooner than later. That would be really big for us, and I know we can do it.

“Pocono is one of the toughest tracks to get around on the circuit. When I came to NASCAR, I don’t think I had ever raced on an ‘oval’ like this. There are certain parts of the track, such as the ‘Tunnel’ Turn that you really need to be careful getting through. I think we’ve seen a lot of excitement through there in the past. It’s always an exciting race, and we’re ready to tackle it this weekend.”

Comments from Crew Chief Drew Blickensderfer on Pocono:

“Pocono is a very difficult track to drive and setup cars. You really have to pick one corner to focus on getting really good. Then, you have to make the other two corners as good as you can without hurting the first corner. It is definitely a balancing act. The track is very fast and bumpy which makes that balancing act even harder. Last season, Marcos showed a lot of speed and prowess at Pocono, so I’m confident we can have a good day this weekend.”

Chassis History:

The No. 9 team prepared chassis No. 842 for Pocono. The last time the team competed with this chassis was at Darlington Raceway this season.
