FORD RACING DID YOU KNOW? … WATKINS GLEN EDITION

DID YOU KNOW? … When Marcos Ambrose won at Watkins Glen International in 2012 he became only the fourth driver in NASCAR Sprint Cup history to post victories in back-to-back years.  Mark Martin, Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart are the others.

DID YOU KNOW? … Geoffrey Bodine’s win at Watkins Glen International in 1996 with the No. 7 QVC Ford Thunderbird marked the final victory of his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series career.  Bodine finished with 18 all-time series wins.

DID YOU KNOW? … Mark Martin was the first driver to win three straight NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races at Watkins Glen International when he drove the No. 6 Ford of Jack Roush to victories in 1993, ’94 and ’95.  Not only did Martin win each of those years, he also sat on the pole each time.

DID YOU KNOW? … The first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Ford-branded victory at Watkins Glen International came courtesy of Marvin Panch on July 18, 1965.  Panch drove the famous No. 21 Wood Brothers Ford on that day and led the final 53 laps in beating Ned Jarrett to the checkered flag of The Glen 151.8.

DID YOU KNOW? … While Marvin Panch was the first Ford winner at Watkins Glen International, he wasn’t the first to find victory lane for Ford Motor Company.  That honor went a year earlier to Billy Wade, who drove NASCAR Hall of Famer Bud Moore’s Mercury to a win on July 19, 1964.  The boxscore next to Wade’s name that day had three columns and all of them were filled with the number one.  Wade started first, finished first and his ’64 Mercury had the No. 1 painted on the side.
