First Win of the Season Gives Kraig Kinser Momentum Heading into Four-Race Stretch

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — September 14, 2014 — Fresh off his first win of the season at Clay County Fair Speedway on September 12, Kraig Kinser returns to his home state of Indiana this week for a busy stretch of four races that will see the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series race twice on Hoosier soil, along with stops in Ohio and Pennsylvania. For Kinser, the victory came after several strong runs had been thwarted by bad luck over the last few weeks.

“It’s definitely a bit of a relief to get that first win of the year,” said Kinser. “Hopefully we can get another before the year is over. It is so tough out here right now that you have to have a perfect night and a fast car along with some luck, which we had both at Spencer (Clay County Fair Speedway) and were able to capitalize on it.”

Kinser started second at Clay County Fair Speedway in the Mesilla Valley Transportation/Casey’s General Store/King Racing Products Maxim and battled pole sitter Brad Sweet, as well as Kerry Madsen in the early going. On the 13th lap, Sweet was out front, when his car got very loose and sideways, allowing Kinser to dart by and take the lead. He withstood a battle from Madsen as the race wore on, eventually pulling away late in the going of the 30-lap event that went to green-to-checkers non-stop. For Kinser, it was the 16th A-Feature win of his World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series career.

“We’ve been fast the last month or so since Knoxville and to finally get a win feel great,” said Kinser. “Everything that could happen seem like it did during the West Coast swing. Everyone on the team keeps working hard and we keep our heads up and put the tough nights behind us. Having a long driver after Clay County we didn’t really get to celebrate the win too much, but we’ll have a few days before Kokomo (Speedway) to savor it.”

The four-race stretch this week opens at Kokomo Speedway in Tuesday, September 16 for an event that was rained out earlier this year. The series then pays a visit to the Terre Haute Action Track on Wednesday, September 17. The World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series portion of the Four-Crown Nationals at Eldora Speedway is set for Friday, September 19. The four-race swing concludes on Saturday, September 20 at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pennsylvania.

Kinser has a pair of wins with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series at Kokomo Speedway. He won with the series for the first at the always racy quarter-mile in 2005 and picked up a second triumph in 2012. Last season, the third-generation driver ran eighth at Kokomo. He has a total of three wins at the track in his career, including the two with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series.

The World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series will be visiting the Terre Haute Action Track for the first time since 2006. Kinser has made six starts at the half-mile with the series in three different seasons, with the most recent coming in 2003. His best finish came in 2001 when he ran 13th.

In his last visit to Eldora Speedway, Kinser finished sixth in the Kings Royal. He started 11th in the 40-lap race and steadily worked his way forward. Kinser has made four starts at Eldora this season. In his career with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series at the half-mile, he has 14 top-10 performances, with a best finish of third in 2005.

Kinser competed at Lernerville Speedway earlier this season during the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup Twin 30s. He had trouble while in a transfer spot in the B-main, which prevented him from starting the main events. In his career at the four-tenths-mile located just outside of Pittsburgh, the 2005 winner of the Knoxville Nationals has four top-10 finishes. He ran a career-best fifth in the 2011 Commonwealth Clash.

Heading into the four-race stretch, Kinser is ninth in points with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series. He has one win along with 28 top-10 finishes, of which seven are top-five performances.
