CHASTAIN NINTH IN OPENER

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Saturday’s Alert Today Florida 300 will be a race Ross Chastain remembers for a long time.

In his debut race with the JD Motorsports with Gary Keller team, Chastain brought his Watermelon.org/Flex Shot Chevrolet home in ninth place despite being involved in a last-lap accident.

As the lead-lap group charged for positions entering the final lap, Chastain was involved in a crash. He continued around the track despite having tires damaged, completing the final lap for ninth place.

“It was an amazing day,” Chastain said. “I hate we got involved in that last accident, but we still got in ninth place. Coming home with a top 10 in our first race is a great accomplishment and something really good to build on.”

After Race One, Chastain is fifth in Xfinity Series points. The series moves on to Atlanta Motor Speedway Feb. 28.
