Formula 1- Heads to Mexico City

in collaboration with Jason Todd.

Another country and another race, this time it’s Mexico City. The Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez is a fantastic track with plenty of history, and where the F1 season heads to next.

As the name of the circuit suggests, it was named after Ricardo Rodriguez who became a well-known driver on the world stage in 1961. A 5-kilometre circuit in the public Magdalena Mixhuca Park in the east of Mexico City was to be built in his name.

F1 ended in Mexico in the 90s and has only just reappeared on the calendar, which is fantastic for the locals and the nation alike. Personal and Government investment has gone into the track and surrounding area to bring it up to current regulations.

There is a certain amount of intrigue for sure with this race. None of the current drivers have had any history on this course since it was closed in 1992 – Well, for Formula 1 anyway.

There is an extremely long part of the circuit, which stretches for 1.314 km. This will give the superior engines of Mercedes and Ferrari an advantage as they will look to lead the race from the off.

Sports bookmaker Betway have been researching the odds heading in to the race, and they currently see Lewis Hamilton as the heavy favourite once more, with their odds of 8/15 on offer. Nico Rosberg is fancied at 11/4, whilst Sebastien Vettel could be worth a punt at 8/1.

Sergio Perez will want a top podium spot as he aims to create a piece of history and win on home soil.

“Having the opportunity of driving in my home Grand Prix is something I never thought would happen. It will be one of the highlights of my career and I have no doubt that this race will become a modern classic of Formula One.

“Mexico has a lot of history in motorsport: the fans know the sport; they have a lot of enthusiasm and have been waiting a long time for Formula One to come back”.

Felipe Massa is looking forward to his first visit to Mexico, as he says it’s the first time he will have even visited the country, never mind race there.

“I hear the tickets sold out in less than a week, so there is clearly a passion for motorsport.”

Nico Rosberg on the other hand is just wanting to put recent results behind him, and put the memories of bitter rival Lewis Hamilton’s triumphant race last weekend – which saw the Brit seal the championship with three races to spare.

Thunderstorms are predicted throughout the four days and this could have a bearing on when and where the teams finish. Whatever happens it should be an interesting race.
