A TUMS’ “FIGHTS BACK FAST” MOMENT: CHARLIE GLOTZBACH CLAIMS SECOND CAREER WIN IN AUGUST 1970

(For each of the 36 races during the 2011 Sprint Cup season, TUMS will provide a brief historical recap of a moment when a team fought back to overcome an obstacle, one that can easily be described as a TUMS “Fights Back Fast” Moment. This week, the focus is on Michigan International Speedway).

charlie glotzbach claims second career win in august 1970

The date was Aug. 16, 1970. In the closing laps of the Yankee 400 at Michigan International Speedway, Cale Yarborough had the lead and appeared to be on his way to victory for the famed Wood Brothers of Stuart, Va. But with nine laps remaining, Charlie Glotzbach, in the Ray Nichels-owned Dodge, had rallied back to challenge Yarborough for the win.

NOTE:  TUMS is the sponsor of the TUMS Fast Relief 500, the seventh race in the Chase for the Sprint Cup, at Martinsville Speedway on October 30.

The Georgetown, Ind., driver led seven times for 116 laps, but fell back into the top-10 with 30 laps remaining. He fought back for position, passing Bobby Allison, Dick Brooks and Bobby Isaac to put himself back in contention to win. When Yarborough’s engine let go, Glotzbach took his second win of the season under caution.

“I would have rather won it under green,” Glotzbach said in victory lane. “But it all pays the same. I was running faster than Cale most of the day. I think I could have caught him if he hadn’t blown.”

Similar to Glotzbach’s commitment to fight back for a win, TUMS also fights back fast for heartburn relief.
