·       Motorcraft and Quick Lane Racing and Wood Brothers Racing are proud to honor the DAV this weekend at the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

·       The No. 21 Ford Fusion driven by Trevor Bayne will carry the DAV logo on its sides in honor of the relationship between Ford Motor Company and the DAV that started in 1922, when Henry Ford organized a cross-country caravan of 50 Model T Fords to take disabled veterans to their convention in San Francisco.

CONCORD, N.C., May 23, 2012–Since 1996, Ford Motor Company has donated more than $6.5 million to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) in a relationship that was initiated by Henry Ford in 1922.

Ford Customer Service Division and its brands, Motorcraft and Quick Lane, are happy to join the effort, promoting the DAV at the Coca-Cola 600 as part of the “NASCAR Unites-An American Salute” program announced by the sanctioning body in April.

“We’re so appreciative for what our military members and their families have done for us and we are more than happy to participate in this program by putting the spotlight on the DAV,” said Mary Lou Quesnell, Marketing Director, Ford Customer Service Division.

“NASCAR Unites” kicks off at Charlotte Motor Speedway Memorial Day Weekend (May 26-27, 2012) and runs until the race at Daytona International Speedway Independence Day Weekend (July 5-7, 2012).

This weekend – at what is billed as the nation’s largest Memorial Day celebration – driver Trevor Bayne will compete with a special paint scheme on the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Fusion and the DAV logo on the sides of the car to honor sacrifices made by American soldiers and their families.

Ron Minter, National Director of Voluntary Services, Disabled American Veterans, will attend the race.

The 1.2 million-member DAV is a non-profit charity that ensures those who were injured or disabled as a result of military service and their families receive the benefits, representation and advocacy they deserve. Founded in 1920 by veterans returning from World War I and congressionally chartered, it provides free services to veterans of all eras and helps recently injured heroes transition to meaningful life following their time in uniform.

Every year, DAV represents more than 200,000 veterans and their dependents with claims for benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense. The DAV’s Voluntary Services Program operates a comprehensive network of volunteers who provide veterans free rides to and from VA medical facilities and improve care and morale for sick and disabled veterans.

“The support we offer at the DAV is vital to so many of our nation’s heroes and their families who are courageously facing new challenges as a result of their military service,” said DAV National Adjutant Arthur H. Wilson. “It takes the hard work of every person in our network to keep the services we offer strong and it’s gratifying to see their efforts honored by NASCAR and Ford Customer Service Division. We will be honored to see the DAV logo on Trevor Bayne’s No. 21 Ford Fusion this weekend.”

Ninety-years ago, Henry Ford organized a cross-country caravan of 50 Model T Fords to take disabled veterans to their convention in San Francisco, the first of many such trips he took.

“It’s really an honor for us to run the DAV logo on our car,” said Eddie Wood, of Wood Brothers Racing. “We’re proud to show our appreciation to our military in any way we can. That’s something that’s important to our family and our race team.”
