Toyota NCWTS Kentucky Post-Race Notes & Quotes

TOYOTA NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS)

Post-Race Notes & Quotes

Kentucky Speedway – September 21, 2012

Tundra driver Parker Kligerman (second) was the top-finishing Toyota driver in Friday night’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) race at Kentucky Speedway.

Brian Scott (fifth), Johnny Sauter (sixth), Matt Crafton (ninth) and John Wes Townley (10th) also earned top-10 results for Toyota at the 1.5-mile oval.

Other Tundra drivers in the field at Kentucky included Timothy Peters (21st), Ross Chastain (28th) and Todd Bodine (30th).

Peters fell to third-place in the unofficial NCWTS points, trailing current point leader Ty Dillon by 26 points. Kligerman (fourth) and Crafton (sixth) also rank in the top-10 in the point standings.

PARKER KLIGERMAN, No. 7 Toyota Tundra, Red Horse Racing Finishing Position: 2nd Are you disappointed to get another second-place finish? “I’m disappointed, man. I let my team down. I had a bad restart there. The 99 (Brian Silas) — we got the lead on the fuel only stop — or essentially the lead — the 99 stayed out and I just didn’t know what he was doing. He was driving on the apron and he was so low and I didn’t know how to judge it and I just lost the lead and we never led a lap, which hurt us. We came here with the intention where we are in points to lead the most laps or lead a lap and win this race. Then, I spun out racing for third. Came back — I’m proud of these guys. We didn’t put a mark on the truck, but you can’t make mistakes like that and win a championship. This is a championship caliber team and hopefully we’ve got a championship caliber driver here over the next six races.”

BRIAN SCOTT, No. 18 Dollar General Toyota Tundra, Kyle Busch Motorsports Finishing Position: 5th How was your race tonight? “It was fun to come out here and represent Dollar General, Flexco, M&M’s, everybody — and just have the opportunity to run the Truck Series here in Kentucky. Track position was everything. When we were out front, we were able to run pretty good. We just had to overcome too many positions on the last run to get up there and really challenge for it. Congratulations to James (Buescher). I wish we could’ve gone up there and battled him, but hopefully we learned to improve this mile-and- half program. Because I finished in the top-10, Dollar General will give 10 percent off Monday on online purchases so remember to go online and buy some stuff.”

JOHNNY SAUTER, No. 13 Hot Honeys/Curb Records Toyota Tundra, ThorSport Racing Finishing Position: 6th

MATT CRAFTON, No. 88 Menards/Ideal Door Toyota Tundra, ThorSport Racing Finishing Position: 9th

JOHN WES TOWNLEY, No. 09 Zaxby’s Toyota Tundra, RAB Racing Finishing Position: 10th

TIMOTHY PETERS, No. 17 Toyota Tundra, Red Horse Racing Finishing Position: 21st What happened to cause damage to your Tundra? “The 8 (Max Gresham) just got in there a little deep and got in our side and around we went. But, the guys on this Red Horse Racing Tundra did a great job from the 7 (Parker Kligerman), the 11 (Todd Bodine) — all of the guys on the 7 team worked their butts off getting us back out there. Gained four spots and come Homestead those four spots that we gained tonight from their hard work is going to pay dividends for us. Not out of this thing yet, but tough tonight. Statute of limitations at midnight, so we’re going to Vegas.”

What is your role as a driver to help rally your team before next week’s race at Las Vegas? “We’ve got momentum. We’ve got confidence. We’ve had a great year. What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger. Character builds this team week in and week out. We’ve had a couple of races not of our liking after Bristol, so we’ll go to Vegas and we’ll persevere from that for sure. This isn’t going to get us down.”

ROSS CHASTAIN, No. 08 SS/GLR Toyota Tundra, Green Light Racing Finishing Position: 28th

TODD BODINE, No. 11 Toyota Care Tundra, Red Horse Racing Finishing Position: 30th What happened to take you out of the race? “The big wreck right there. I don’t know what happened up front. They all jammed up and I run into the back of the 2 (Tim George Jr.) and I mean I was on the brakes for all I could get and they just all jammed up in front of me. Knocked the radiator back and got the oil cooler. It’s a shame. Our Toyota Tundra was fast. It was really good in the beginning there. I don’t know what happened when I spun out. I don’t know if I hit some oil or something. The 22 (Joey Coulter) in front of me got sideways too, so I don’t know if I just lost it or not. That’s what caused the whole thing. You can’t be in the back. You’ve got to be up front. I’ll take the blame for this one. I don’t know — it’s getting old.”
