Martinsville Speedway Advance | Kroger 200

Home Field Advantage: Beginning the final four race stretch into the season finale in November, Timothy Peters and the No. 17 Red Horse Racing team head to Martinsville Speedway on Saturday in the midst of a tight race for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship. Peters, who resides in nearby Danville, Virginia, has one previous win and a knack for getting around the paperclip-shaped short track.

“I don’t really have any special tricks to getting around there; from the first time I set foot in the place it’s just suited my driving style or my driving style has suited it– whichever way it is they complement each other. I’ve had a lot of success there and I’ve always loved it since my first start. It’s been a pretty cool place for me,” Peters explained.

Competing on his home track in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series this weekend at Martinsville provides its perks and advantages for Peters. With a solid record to back up his affinity for the .526-mile track, Peters is looking to pad his championship run with a strong performance in the Kroger 200.

“I think it’s more comfortable being close to home, you get to sleep in your own bed and having friends and family there is great. It doesn’t matter what the other competitors say, they’re always going to want to do well at home and it puts you in a different state of mind when you come back home, especially if it’s a track you do well at.”

Local Support: Timothy Peters and the No. 17 Red Horse Racing team will have backing from three local organizations this weekend at Martinsville Speedway. Nelson Toyota in Martinsville, Virginia, Strutmasters.com out of Roxboro, North Carolina and Thunder Road Harley Davidson in Danville, Virginia, will be on Peters’ Toyota Tundra at the driver’s home track.

Home State Crew: Winchester, Virginia native Travis McFarland serves as lead mechanic for the No. 17 Toyota Tundra team and driver Timothy Peters. Racing go karts as a child sparked McFarland’s interest in racing and his move to North Carolina to pursue his career. He has been a member of Red Horse Racing since the spring of 2009 and is looking forward to returning to his home track in Martinsville this weekend.

Previous Race Recap: Timothy Peters and the No. 17 Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra team traveled to Talladega Superspeedway on Saturday, October 6, 2012 to compete in the milestone 300th NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start for Red Horse Racing. By steering clear of all incidents and maintaining a position inside the top-10 all afternoon, Peters placed himself in contention for the win with just a few short laps remaining in the fred’s 250 powered by Coca-Cola. Linking up with teammate Parker Kligerman on the final restart, Peters pushed his way into the top-five and maneuvered into the lead pack draft to claim a fifth place finish.

Chassis History: Timothy Peters will be behind the wheel of Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra chassis 137 for the Kroger 200 on Saturday. This particular chassis was crafted specifically for racing at the paperclip-shaped Martinsville Speedway, and Peters wheeled it to a fifth place finish at the Virginia short track in March.

You have a lot of special memories and a win at Martinsville.

“It always gives me confidence going back there knowing that I was able to check the win box off my first time there. It’s really special. I worked hard to get to that point; not only me but my family, my wife Sara, and everyone that was giving me support and to go there that day and get that off my chest and do it in great fashion it was pretty cool.”

Do you have any Martinsville memories from your childhood?

“I always went up there as a kid and watched Darrell Waltrip, and I have a lot of great memories from when he drove the number 11 and the 17. There’s not one memory in particular, but all the trips stand out as great memories.”
