Welcome: Fueled by his passion for motorsports, NASCAR enthusiast and Mega Millions lottery winner Joe Denette formed Joe Denette Motorsports, NASCAR’s newest Camping World Truck Series Team.
After winning the May, 2009 lottery, Denette participated in a pace car ride around Richmond International Raceway by Mega Millions Lottery promoter and Virginia native, Hermie Sadler. The two kept in touch and when Denette decided he wanted to start a race team, he leaned on Sadler to point him in the right direction. Joe Denette Motorsports opened the doors of its Huntersville, NC based shop just six weeks prior to Daytona.
Jason White at Daytona:In four starts at Daytona, White has led 10 laps and brought home one top-5 and one pole.
Calling the Shots:Calling the shots for White and the No. 23 GunBroker.com team will be Chad Kendrick. Kendrick comes to Joe Denette Motorsports from Germain Racing and has more than three years of experience as a crew chief working with drivers such as Timothy Peters, Stacey Compton, Max Papis and Narain Karthikeyan.
This Week’s No. 23 GunBroker.com Chevy:A long standing tradition with the GunBroker.com team will carry over to the newly formed, Joe Denette Motorsports. The team will name their chassis after guns. Jason White will pilot “Beretta” in the NextEra Energy Resources 250 in Friday night’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event. Beretta guns are, “designed for maximum performance in any event,” and that is exactly what White and the No. 23 GunBroker.com team hopes for in their first event of 2011.
We’re Guessing He Signs His Name Fast Too:White will join other NASCAR Camping World Truck Series drivers for an autograph session on Friday, February 18th from 4:00-5:00 PM in the Sprint FANZONE prior to the NextEra Energy Resources 250.
Quoting Jason White: Will there be any added pressure on you this year working with a rookie team? “I don’t think so. Joe has the right people in place here at JDM and most of the guys on the team came from the GunBroker.com team last year. We will be getting our trucks from KHI and our engines from PME and Chad Kendrick will be calling the shots on top of the pit box. I’m confident that we will win races this year and contend for a championship.”
Your team owner, Joe Denette obviously likes to gamble. Would you consider yourself a gambler on the race track, especially at Daytona? “You have to be willing to gamble on the track, especially superspeedways. You take your chances on when to make your move and not knowing if someone will pull out and run with you. Doesn’t the old saying go, you have to know when to hold them and know when to fold them? Big risks equal big rewards!”
