American Diabetes Association Youth Ambassador Hunter Sego to ‘Ride with Ryan’

CONCORD, N.C. (July 20, 2015) – American Diabetes Association® Youth Ambassador Hunter Sego will ride along with Roush Fenway Racing driver Ryan Reed during Saturday’s NASCAR XFINITY Series Lilly Diabetes 250 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The Madison, Ind. native will have his name featured on a decal above the passenger-side door on the No. 16 Lilly Diabetes American Diabetes Association Ford Mustang.

Sego is a recent high school graduate who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when he was seven years old. Now 18, Sego boasts an impressive academic and extracurricular resume as he heads into his first year at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Madison Consolidated High where he earned All-State honors in football and was a regional qualifier in track and wrestling.

Sego’s accomplishments in the community have paved the way for others living with diabetes. The Diabetes Care Act in the state of Indiana, or “Hunter’s Law,” outlines diabetes care in schools and was initiated by and named for Sego. He was also a spokesperson for Jerry Seinfeld’s “Stand Up for a Cure,” which is an educational video on life with diabetes and was shown in Madison Square Garden. Additionally, Sego is a top-five fundraiser for the Indiana American Diabetes Association’s Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes®.

“Hunter is truly a leader in the diabetes community and I couldn’t be more proud to carry his name on the No. 16 Lilly Diabetes American Diabetes Association Ford Mustang this weekend,” said Reed. “It’s such a special weekend with it being the Lilly Diabetes 250 at the Brickyard and Hunter is definitely deserving of recognition at this prestigious event.”

Ryan Reed and the ‘Riding with Ryan’ program roll into Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend for a 100-lap event at the Brickyard. In his last appearance at the track, Reed finished 20th.

The NASCAR XFINITY Series takes the green flag from Indianapolis on Saturday, July 25 at 3:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
