Matt Kenseth maneuvered his way into the victory lane in Sunday’s Kobalt 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway with a solid race, brilliant tactical planning, and non-stop defensive driving late in the race.

Kasey Kahne, No. 5 Farmers Insurance Chevrolet SS, led 114 of the 267 laps that made up the Kobalt Tools 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway today, but was not able to make it back to the point after restarting seventh on the final restart. Kahne came home second and posted his fifth top-ten finish in ten races at Las Vegas. It was his first top-ten finish of 2013 and he moved from 31st to 14th in the overall point standings.

Matt Kenseth won the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Kobalt Tools 400 at Las Vegas Motor speedway for his first win of the season and first win with his new team at Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR).

“I had an unbelievable Farmers Insurance Chevrolet. Throughout the whole race the pit stops were great. We just came out sixth there which I think Matt (Kenseth) would have beat us out anyways because he didn’t take tires."

“Never ever give up. Never give up. This team doesn’t and we didn’t today. You get a good run like we did and that is a product of that effort. I thought we had some really good speed there at the end. I almost want another yellow to race the 5 and the 20. Matt (Kenseth) did a great job executing the restarts really well. We were so close.”

On Thursday afternoon, NASCAR announced that they had fined Denny Hamlin $25,000 for comments he made following the March 3 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Phoenix International Raceway. In his comments, he violated section 12-1 of the rulebook, which is "actions detrimental to stock car racing".
