NASCAR Cup Series

Following a wild finish in the CampingWorld.com 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, four Team Chevy drivers have advanced to the Eliminator round of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. The 10-race playoff began with nine Chevy SS drivers vying for this season’s championship title. With only five races remaining in the season, four Chevrolet SS drivers are left standing to try to earn Team Chevy’s 31st driver championship.

Greg Biffle once again flexed his fuel saving muscles and almost left Talladega Superspeedway with the win Sunday afternoon. Biffle stayed out while others pitted and had saved enough fuel to make it to the end when a caution came out and an extended cleanup period ensued. Biffle had to relinquish the lead and come down pit road for fuel due to the extra cleanup time. Biffle was able to make up a few positions on the race ending green-white-checkered finish to cross the finish line 20th in the No. 16 Cheez-It Ford.

The final laps there we had a good car. I felt like we could contend and execution in the pits got us to the point where we got off pit road that last fuel only stop first and we were watching it go and seeing what was happening with the 16."

Richard Childress Racing drivers Paul Menard, Ryan Newman and Austin Dillon finished sixth, 12th and 14th, respectively, in the CampingWorld.com 500 at Talladega Superspeedway.

Martin Truex Jr.’s come-from-behind seventh-place finish Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway advanced the Furniture Row Racing driver to NASCAR’s Eliminator Round of the Chase, equivalent to college basketball’s Elite 8.

Joey Logano’s win today is his sixth NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victory of the season and 14th of his career.

Jeff Gordon will start out front in his final race at Talladega Superspeedway after winning the pole position and leading the Chevrolet SS contingent in qualifying for the CampingWorld.com 500.
