Crunching The Numbers: Atlanta

After three nights of battling in the bullring that is Bristol Motor Speedway last weekend, the Sprint Cup Series and Nationwide Series head to Atlanta Motor Speedway for Labor Day weekend and more racing under the lights on the fast 1.5 mile speedway. With a track surface that is old and worn, having not been repaved since its reconfiguration in 1997, the track has gotten rave reviews from drivers who enjoy slipping and sliding around on the worn out asphalt.

The smoke cleared after the weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway, and there were surprises upon surprises. After an exciting NASCAR Camping World truck race in which Kyle Busch just edged out Timothy Peters on the last lap, it was followed up with Busch dominating the Nationwide Series race. What happened on Sunday was different, if not pleasing.

After Camry driver Kyle Busch claimed victories in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) and NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) races last week at Bristol Motor Speedway, his Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) teammate Matt Kenseth captured the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) checkered flag for a Toyota sweep in Tennessee. Busch utilized a late-race pass on the half-mile oval to win Wednesday's Truck Series event and went on to dominate Friday's NNS event, where he led 228 laps (of 250). Kenseth led a race -high 149 laps (of 500), and held off a fast- closing Kasey Kahne over the final laps to register his fifth NSCS win of 2013 -- the most in the series.

RAB Racing and the No. 99 ToyotaCare Camry driven by Alex Bowman came into "Thunder Valley" poised to continue their top 15 finishing streak, and march up the driver and owner point standings. A fast car in the opening laps of the Food City 250 proved the team had the speed to contend, but an ignition box failure dashed any hopes for a good finish.
