A head injury is not just a bump on the head. It can have serious, long-term effects. You may experience headaches, dizziness, vision problems, and changes in behavior. These effects can last for years, even permanently.

If you were involved in a motorcycle accident with a head injury, you may be asking why you need a lawyer. Use this guide to determine the importance of hiring an attorney for the best possible outcome.

Let’s get into it!

1. To Prove Liability

Hiring an attorney can provide the victim with expert legal advice on how to prove liability. For instance, they can gather evidence to prove the other driver’s negligence in the motorcycle accident. Doing so can help you to file a claim or lawsuit against them. They can also:

  • Review police records
  • Help to obtain witness testimony
  • Investigate the accident scene

Additionally, they can advocate for the victim and negotiate on their behalf. They have the resources to help the victim determine the right financial compensation to cover losses. This is especially important if you are attempting to confirm a third party’s liability for the accident. In short, a lawyer can help you navigate the complex legal issues associated with motorcycle accident injuries.

2. Provides Support And Guidance Through the Legal Process

Hiring a lawyer to support and guide the legal process is a crucial step to getting justice. A motorcycle accident lawyer in Houston can explain all the laws and legal proceedings related to the head injury, increasing the victim’s chances of a successful outcome.

They are also experienced in researching and gathering information relevant to the case that could strengthen its chances of success. They also help the victim develop arguments and strategies to present before the court.

Also, they can ensure that the liable party is appropriately held accountable. Last but not least, they can help you develop a legal plan to ensure you receive the appropriate compensation that you deserve for your medical costs, damage to your vehicle, and pain and suffering.

3. To File a Lawsuit

Lawyers are experienced in the preparation and filing of relevant legal paperwork. This can save time and any potential headaches associated with it.

In addition, they have a comprehensive understanding of the legal system, enabling them to file a lawsuit accurately. Ultimately, you’ll be able to focus more on physical recovery while a professional handles legal matters.

So, if you or someone you know has experienced a head injury due to this type of misfortune, it is best to consider hiring an Arizona motorcycle accident attorney to ensure that your legal rights and interests are protected.

Top Reason to Hire a Lawyer for a Motorcycle Accident Head Injury

A lawyer experienced in personal injury cases can help motorcycle accident head injury victims get the compensation they deserve. Besides, motorcyclists should not suffer in silence after a head injury.

They should contact a lawyer to learn more about their rights. Take the first step today and contact an experienced attorney for help.

Coke Zero Sugar 400

Chandler Smith, No. 13 Quick Tie Products Camaro ZL1

  • Chandler Smith qualified 36th for the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona International Speedway.
  • During the caution-free opening stage, Smith lost the draft and finished stage one in 39th, one lap down.
  • Smith received the free pass and came down pit road under the stage caution for fuel and four tires. He restarted at the tail-end on lap 41 and moved up to 35th one lap later. With the field running three-wide, Smith fought his way to 16th before green flag pit stops began. Smith, along with teammates, Justin Haley and AJ Allmendinger, pitted for fuel only on lap 82. On lap 92, Smith bailed out of the pack to avoid getting caught up in a wreck while the leaders were racing for stage points. A multi-car incident coming out of turn four on the final lap of the stage brought out the red flag. The second stage ended under caution and Smith finished 21st.
  • Smith pitted for tires and fuel under caution and restarted 15th. He steadily climbed up the leaderboard throughout the green flag run, moving up to seventh by lap 116 while running on the inside. Moving to the top lane, Smith broke into the top five just two laps later but got shuffled back on lap 120. With 17 laps to go, Smith made a pit stop for fuel only under green and blended back out in 22nd running on the inside line before the No. 41 flipped, bringing out the race’s final caution with five laps to go. The No. 13 car restarted in 14th for overtime but lost spots due to the inside line firing off quicker. Coming to the checkered flag, Smith hugged the wall, going three-wide out of turn four. Smith finished in 15th place in his Cup superspeedway debut.

“I think we had a good solid weekend. We were up front in both races, maybe didn’t get the result we probably deserved based on our speed in the Xfinity race. But we moved on to the Cup race, ran up front, showed decent speed and hopefully got a lot of TV time for Quick Tie Products. I’d call that a success.” – Chandler Smith

Justin Haley, No. 31 Celsius Camaro ZL1

  • Justin Haley qualified 28th for the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona International Speedway.
  • Haley made his way to 25th in the outside line by lap five, however the outside line was having trouble going. He made it as high as 15th where he finished the caution-free opening stage.
  • Haley pitted for four tires and fuel during the stage break, but received a pit road penalty that would force him to start at the rear for the second stage. Restarting on the outside line, Haley was able to make his way back to 22nd by lap 45. By lap 50, Haley had reached the top five, running as high as fourth, behind No. 8 and teammate, AJ Allmendinger. Alongside teammates Allmendinger and Chandler Smith, the Kaulig Racing Chevrolets pitted for fuel only on lap 82. Haley was back inside the top 15 with five laps remaining in stage two, before a wreck in front of him ended stage two under caution. Haley finished 15th, before the field was red flagged.
  • Once the red flag was lifted, Haley pitted for four tires and fuel. The green flag came back out on lap 105. Haley pitted under green for fuel only on lap 145 and sat 19th after the green-flag stops cycled through. When the caution came back out on lap 156 for the No. 41 flipping, the field was once again red flagged. Once the red flag was lifted, Haley stayed out and restarted 19th with two laps remaining for an overtime finish. He went on to finish 21st.

“We had a super fast No. 31 LeafFilter Gutter Protection Chevrolet. We stayed clean and raced in the top five for a while there. Unfortunately, nothing transpired for us at the end.” – Justin Haley

AJ Allmendinger, No. 16 Action Industries Camaro ZL1

  • AJ Allmendinger qualified 17th for the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona International Speedway.
  • By lap eight, Allmendinger made it as high as sixth place, and fell to eighth place on lap 12 as the top lane started to form. Reporting the cars in front of him were moving around a bit, Allmendinger told the team his car was tight off turn four, and he needed to stay in the bottom lane. By lap 27, the top lane prevailed, and Allmendinger fell to 16th. As the last car in line on the bottom lane, Allmendinger finished stage on in 30th. Under the stage caution, the team made an air pressure adjustment to help with the car’s handling of turn four.
  • Allmendinger restarted lap 40 in 22nd. Running the third lane, Allmendinger was able to move up to 10th by lap 45. Working with the No. 8 in the third lane, Allmendinger took the lead on lap 47. From lap 47 to lap 60, Allmendinger lead a total of 8 laps before the third lane lost momentum on lap 61, eventually shuffling the No. 16 back to 26th before coming down pit road for a scheduled, green-flag stop on lap 82 for fuel only. Coming off pit road in 28th, Allmendinger made quick moves around cars on the bottom lane to take over sixth on lap 93. On the last lap of the stage, the No. 16 was caught up in a multi-car wreck at the front of the field. Bringing out the red flag on lap 96, Allmendinger was stuck with flat tires waiting for a tow to pit road. The team was able to repair damage to the right-front fender, and Allmendinger returned to the track, three laps down.
  • The field restarted on lap 105 and the No. 16 cleared the damage vehicle policy. Allmendinger was able to hang at the tail of the of the draft and finished 29th.

“I can’t thank my guys enough for the No. 16 Action Industries Chevy we had today. This was the best speedway car we have had, it handled well and had a lot of speed. We got caught up in a wreck running near the front of the field and that ultimately ended our day, but I’m proud of all the effort, we’ll keep making gains and hopefully get some finishes to show it.” – AJ Allmendinger

Wawa 250 Powered by Coca-Cola

Daniel Hemric, No. 11 Cirkul Chevrolet Camaro

  • Daniel Hemric qualified sixth for the Wawa 250 Powered By Coca-Cola at Daytona International Speedway.
  • Early on, Hemric reported that the No. 11 Cirkul Chevrolet was free handling. He fell back to seventh on lap 10 but worked his way back up to fourth by lap 18. Hemric went on to finish the first stage in sixth place.
  • At the stage break, Hemric pitted for four tires, fuel and an air pressure adjustment to help tighten the car. On the restart, Hemric restarted seventh and stayed inside the top-10 until the caution came out on lap 42. Hemric reported under the caution laps that the adjustments made in the previous pit stop helped the balance. Restarting as the fifth car on the inside, Hemric worked his way up to third but eventually finished the second stage in fifth place.
  • Hemric came down pit road at the stage break for four tires, fuel and another air pressure adjustment. On the restart with 34 to go, Hemric restarted 12th in the outside lane, until the next caution came out on lap 92. Hemric stayed out and restarted as the fourth car on the outside with two laps remaining. As the leaders wrecked, Hemric sustained some right-front damage. The team elected to stay out to keep track position. In the first NASCAR overtime attempt, Hemric restarted as the second car on the outside. The caution flag flew again, sending the field into the second-overtime attempt. Hemric restarted as the second car on the inside and went on to finish third.

“Tough to lose one, but any time you come out of a superspeedway with a top-five finish is a good day. I’m proud of everyone at Kaulig Racing for bringing a fast No.11 Cirkul Chevrolet. I’m ready to head to Darlington.” – Daniel Hemric

Justin Haley, No. 10 Campers Inn RV Chevrolet Camaro

  • Justin Haley qualified ninth for the Wawa 250 Powered by Coca-Cola at Daytona International Speedway.
  • Haley radioed early that the cars around him were extremely loose handling and moving around energetically. The spotter of the No. 10 Camper Inn RV Chevy told Haley on lap 12 to bail out of the lead pack, as he was not comfortable with the way the cars around him were handling. Haley finished the first stage in 19th, radioing to his team that his No. 10 Chevy was handling freely.
  • During the first stage break, Haley pitted for four tires, fuel, an air pressure and track bar adjustment to help the handling of the No. 10 Chevy. Haley started the second stage as the 16th car on the outside before the first non-stage caution came out on lap 42. He avoided the wreck but was spun by another car also avoiding the wreck. Haley radioed that the No. 10 Chevy felt fine, and his spotter saw minimal right-side damage. Haley pitted twice under caution for tires, fuel and damage repair. The green flag came back out on lap 51 and Haley finished stage two 30th.
  • Haley elected to pit again during the stage break to fix a damaged crush panel on the No. 10 Chevy. After restarting 28th, Haley made his way up to seventh by lap 74. He dropped back while battling an extremely loose-handling car. The next caution came out on lap 92, as Haley avoided the wreckage once again, but was hit in the rear by another car. He pitted for tires, fuel, and to fix more damage on the No. 10 Chevy. Haley restarted 26th with two laps remaining, before a wreck on the restart put the field back under caution. Haley stayed out and restarted 18th for the first overtime attempt. Another wreck on the restart would put the field into its second-overtime attempt with Haley on the inside of row nine. Haley went on to finish 10th.

“I feel like we had a lot more than 10th place, but after all the wrecks and sustaining damage from other people, a top 10 isn’t a bad night. Our No. 10 Campers Inn RV Chevy was so free, and I could see how free everyone else was around me, so I’m glad we bailed from the pack the times that we did. I knew we had a fast car, but unfortunately getting hit from other people not looking out their windshields cost us a spot up front at the very end. I’m thankful for Kaulig Racing letting me hop back into the Xfinity car one last time. We’ve made a ton of great memories in the series together.” – Justin Haley

Chandler Smith, No. 16 Quick Tie Products Chevrolet Camaro

  • Chandler Smith qualified fourth for the Wawa 250 Powered By Coca-Cola at Daytona International Speedway.
  • Smith settled in the top line for the majority of the opening stage, running second in line for the opening nine laps before falling back to third in line. On the final lap of stage one, Smith made an aggressive move to the inside heading in turn three to try to win the stage, but came to the line third, reporting his No. 16 Quick Tie Chevy was free.
  • During the stage break, the team came down pit road for four tires, fuel and a wedge adjustment to tighten up the car. Smith restarted as the third car on the inside line on lap 37 and quickly moved to the outside to reconnect with teammate, Daniel Hemric. The caution came out on lap 42, and Smith radioed to the team he was happy with the last adjustment. The field restarted on lap 51, and Smith made a move to take the lead but his run was blocked by the leader. From second place on lap 58, Smith got shuffled to the middle running three-wide and finished the second stage in second.
  • Smith came down pit road during the stage break for tires, fuel and an additional wedge adjustment. Smith restarted sixth in the outside line on lap 67 and was forced three-wide, stuck on the outside line for 10 laps before making a move with 23 laps to go. Smith and Hemric split the middle of two competitors moving Smith up to fifth place running on the outside line. With nine laps to go, the caution came out, and Smith was directed to save fuel in case of overtime. Restarting as the third car on the outside with two lap to go, Smith got caught up in a multi-car wreck on the restart. Smith came down pit road multiple times over the next few caution laps for extensive repairs. After receiving a penalty for pitting too early, Smith restarted at the tail end of the longest line for the first overtime restart but was caught up in another wreck on the restart. Smith avoided trouble on the second-overtime attempt and went on to finish 22nd.

“I’m obviously disappointed with where we finished, but I felt like we worked really well with Daniel [Hemric] a lot today, as well as with the RCR guys. It gave me a lot of confidence throughout to push when I needed to and stay calm when things were getting crazy.” – Chandler Smith

Jr III Racing Wins Double Header at VIR

Chris Green | ChrisGreenPhoto.com

Alton, Va. (27 August 2023) – A double-header IMSA race weekend at VIRginia International Raceway saw Jr III (“Junior-Three) Racing driver Bijoy Garg sweep the VP Racing SportsCar Challenge weekend winning both races from the pole and leading flag-to-flag on Saturday and Sunday in the No. 3 Wing S2 Cyber Ligier JS P320.

Garg was quick to get acclimated to the majestic 3.27-mile track after a test day just a couple weeks prior to the race weekend. The young California driver topped the speed charts during Friday’s two practice sessions which produced lap times two-seconds faster than the rest of the field.

Saturday saw a warm early morning qualifying session where Garg set the fastest lap time of 1:41.579-seconds, securing his fifth pole award of the season.

The first of two 45-minute races saw Garg maintain the lead throughout the entire green flag race. Garg was able to build a gap of 31.665-seconds between him and the remainder of the field and raced to a dominating victory.

“I think the execution has been really good the last two race weekends,” said Garg. “I feel like we’ve always had the speed, it’s just been putting it all together and not making any mistakes. I feel like we’ve done that at Lime Rock and then here again at VIR.”

Under cooler temperatures, Sunday’s race two saw Garg take home a second win after coming down to a last lap shootout. Garg started from pole position once again and immediately started building a gap. Just 13-minutes into the race a caution came out due to a GSX incident, forcing the field to bunch up one more time on the restart as the track went green with 17-minutes remaining in the race. Garg once again started to build a gap before catching up to the tail end of the GSX traffic. The second-place LMP3 car was able to close the gap between itself and Garg, but it wasn’t enough to take the win.

“I had a good gap before the safety car came out, and it bunched the field back up,” said Garg. “I think (Alex) Kirby took a bit better care of his tires than me, so I was just struggling to hang on. I knew in clear air I could easily pull away, but we kept catching traffic in the wrong spots, that’s what really brought him back into it. I had to defend from him pretty hard, but I could pull away in that last half of a lap and had no pressure at the finish line.”

Garg provisionally leads the VP Racing SportsCar Challenge points standings going into the final event weekend at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta in October.

Austin Hill Finishes 14th at Daytona

Driver of United Rentals Chevrolet Perseveres for Career-Best NASCAR Cup Series Result

Date: Aug. 26, 2023
Event: Coke Zero Sugar 400
Series: NASCAR Cup Series
Location: Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway (2.5-mile oval)
Format: 160 laps, broken into three stages (35 laps/65 laps/65 laps)
Start/Finish: 26th / 14th (Running, completed 163 of 163 laps)
Note: Race extended three laps past its scheduled 160-lap distance due to a green-white-checkered finish.

Race Winner: Chris Buescher of RFK Racing (Ford)
Stage 1 Winner: Martin Truex Jr. of Joe Gibbs Racing (Toyota)
Stage 2 Winner: Brad Keselowski. of RFK Racing (Ford)

Overview:

Austin Hill, driver of the No. 62 United Rentals Chevrolet Camaro for Beard Motorsports, finished 14th in the Coke Zero Sugar 400 NASCAR Cup Series race Saturday night at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. Hill ran at the back of the pack in 30th for a majority of the first stage to get the feel of his Chevrolet. But in the final five laps, he worked his way up from 30th to 23rd to complete the stage. The No. 62 United Rentals team pitted during the stage break for four tires and fuel, but a mishap on the pit stop forced them to stop twice. Hill restarted the second stage in 33rd and wasted no time in working the draft to climb to 11th by lap 48. He entered the top-10 on lap 53 while riding the high line. Eventually, the field went single-file and Hill found himself back in 20th as green flag pit stops began. Hill pitted on lap 81 for fuel only and rejoined the race in 32nd. As the stage came to an end, he opted to lay back to avoid the pending chaos, avoiding an incident on the last lap of second stage to finish 30th. After a short red flag, the race resumed and Hill restarted the final stage in 19th. He ran among the top-20 during the final 65 laps and stayed there through multiple incidents and an overtime finish to secure his best Cup Series result in just his fifth career start.

Austin Hill, driver of the No. 62 United Rentals Chevrolet Camaro for Beard Motorsports:

“I learned a lot today. The Cup cars in general just drive a lot different than the Xfinity cars. They’re a lot more packed up and there’s a lot more pushing and shoving going on than what you do in the Xfinity cars. Early in the race, I was just trying to feel it out. The car was really on the tight side most of the day, especially off the exit of turn four, so we kind of fought that all day. As long as we could keep some air on the nose, we were alright. It’s really tough out there when you don’t have a lot of help. I felt like the Kaulig cars and I worked pretty well together, which is nice to have some teammates in a sense. There at the end I was expecting that front group to get racing a little more. I knew I had the No. 13 car behind me, but I was scared to go top of three. I figured we would do that and end up losing a ton of track position from it. I ended up playing the safe card, which probably bit me a little bit on gaining a few more spots. We probably could’ve gotten into the top-10. Overall, a solid effort today for everyone at Beard Motorsports. Our No. 62 United Rentals Chevrolet had a lot of speed and could suck up really well and we could draft really well. There’s still some areas that we need to work on for next time, but it’s still a solid effort for this small, part-time team.”

Next Up:

The next event on the NASCAR Cup Series schedule is the Cook Out Southern 500 on Sunday, Sept. 3 at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway. The race begins at 6 p.m. EDT with live coverage provided by USA and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. The next race for Hill and the No. 62 Chevrolet from Beard Motorsports will be the YellaWood 500 on Sunday, Oct. 1 at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway.

Buescher Claims Daytona Victory as RFK Finishes 1-2

No. 17 Earns Third Victory of 2023 in Final Race of Regular Season

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Aug. 27, 2023) – RFK Racing put together the perfect finish in Saturday’s night race at Daytona as Brad Keselowski pushed Chris Buescher to the win in the closing laps of the regular season finale.

“It’s so awesome,” Buescher said after the win. “So proud to get Fifth Third Bank Ford in victory lane here with this Ford Mustang. What a heck of a push from Brad in those closing laps for that entire restart.

“We lined up and worked to get connected. We hardly came disconnected those last couple of laps and it was a little squirrely at times, but that’s what we work so hard to execute superspeedway racing for two years now. We’ve been so close. We’ve been within the last five laps of so many of these things to finally get it done here tonight is special.”

The RFK duo found each other a couple of times throughout the 163-lap race, but none mattered more than on the final restart. Buescher chose the outside lane in second, with Keselowski lining up just behind. The rest was history as the No. 6 pushed from there to the checkered flag.

“Just a really great day for RFK,” Keselowski said after. “A few weeks ago we were sitting down, kind of going over the goal and visions, what we value. One of the things we brought up was 1-2 finishes. It’s been a long time since this company has had 1-2 finishes. I can’t stay say a specific date.

“Of course, I wanted to be the one on the front of that. Proud nonetheless of Chris and his efforts and both teams, where they’ve grown and come together. Doing all the right things to grow us and to just take us to that next level. Today was just another kind of feather in our cap. We’re really proud.”

17 Recap
Buescher’s day began from the 11th position after a solid qualifying effort on Friday. A calm opening stage of 35 laps would put the Fifth Third Ford in 13th at the first race break.

Stage two ran clean until the green-checkered flag flew, when a 13-car incident occurred at the line. Buescher sustained minor damage but was on his way following some left-rear work.

He and teammate Keselowski begin to find each other in the closing laps as Buescher got up to fourth with 20 to go, with the No. 6 just two spots behind. They hit pit road together with 14 laps remaining, and were scored 2-3 when the final yellow flew at lap 157 for a vicious incident involving the No. 41.

From there, just a green-white-checkered finish stood between Buescher and the victory as he got the push on the green flag, and drove to the win from there.

6 Recap
Keselowski rolled off the grid 12th Saturday night and employed an early strategy to stay near the tail end of the field. He was scored 31st to end the opening stage, and restarted 27th for stage two.

Following a fuel-only pit stop at lap 83, Keselowski maneuvered his way back into the top-10 as the stage two laps concluded. The multi-car incident to end the segment put Keselowski P1 for stage two, picking up max points in the stage alone.

He began the third stage in seventh, and was sixth with 20 to go. Following the final green-flag stop and the last big incident, Keselowski lined up just behind Buescher on the last restart and never lifted, earning a second-place finish behind the No. 17.

Note: The quotes in this article are fictional.

1. William Byron: Byron finished eight at Daytona, posting his 13th top 10 of the year.

“I’m starting the playoffs in first place,” Byron said. “That’s partly due to my four wins and 36 bonus points, and mostly due to the fact that you’re not penalized points for failing inspections.”

2. Martin Truex Jr.: Truex won Stage 1 at Daytona and finished 24th.

“My No. 19 Toyota was sponsored by Ducks Unlimited,” Truex said. “Luckily, we avoided all the accidents and the car ran really well. Had we not avoided those crashes, then you could have easily seen the ‘quacks’ in my armor.”

3. Denny Hamlin: Hamlin came home 26th at Daytona and finished second in the regular season standings to Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Martin Truex, Jr.

“Like many,” Hamlin said, “I was caught up in the ‘Big One.’ Historically, I’ve been pretty good, actually, I’ve been perfect, at avoiding the ‘Big One.'”

4. Chris Buescher: Buescher took the lead on the final restart and held on to win the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona.

“The intensity was palpable,” Buescher said. “You could cut it with a knife, and if you’re a true NASCAR fan, you’d put a slice on a plate and eat it.”

5. Christopher Bell: Bell finished 16th at Daytona.

“I was driving the No. 20 Toyota that said ‘Yahoo’ on its sides,” Bell said. “Ideally, when the Playoffs conclude at Phoenix, I just hope I’m driving the ‘Woo hoo‘ car.”

6. Joey Logano: Logano finished fifth in the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona.

“Any race sponsored by Coke is a big deal to me,” Logano said. “I’m in the Coke racing family of drivers. That’s slightly different than the driver’s family racing to do coke.”

7. Kyle Larson: Larson finished 27th, two laps down at Daytona.

“We’re gonna have a playoff without Chase Elliott,” Larson said. “That leaves the patrons of the Dawsonville Pool Hall with nothing to cheer for, except a future liver transplant.”

8. Kevin Harvick: Harvick led the field to green on the final restart at Daytona, but couldn’t hold on for the win and settled for ninth.

“Kyle Busch just retired from racing,” Harvick said. “Of all the NASCAR drivers who’ve claimed that their girlfriends were trained assassins, Kurt was easily the best.”

9. Ross Chastain: Chastain finished 17th at Daytona.

“Daytona is always a stressful race,” Chastain said. “Add that stress to the stress of having to win to make the Playoffs, and the amount of stress increases tenfold. Other drivers say I’m an expert on stress because I’m constantly getting on peoples’ nerves.”

10. Ryan Blaney: Blaney was taken out in the “Big One,” which happened on Lap 95 when Christopher Bell bumped Ty Gibbs into Blaney, turning Blaney’s No. 12 Ford hard into the wall. Blaney finished 36th.

“Talk about a ‘hard right,'” Blaney said. “And speaking of ‘hard rights,’ I’d like to give one to whomever is responsible for starting that accident.”

Burton Finishes 28th After Being Involved In Daytona “Big One” Crash

After a strong run in the first half of Saturday night’s Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway, Harrison Burton and the No. 21 DEX Imaging Mustang were swept up in a Lap 95 “Big One” crash that relegated them to a 28th-place finish.

Burton started the regular season finale from third-place after a Cup-career-best qualifying effort. He held his spot for the first 15 laps then remained in the top 10 through the first 25 laps before dropping to 14th at the end of the first 35-lap Stage.

After a pit stop at the conclusion of the Stage, Burton restarted 17th and ran inside the top 20 for the most part until a round of green-flag pit stops near the end of the second Stage. Crew chief Brian Wilson elected to stay on the track while others pitted, a move that saw Burton cycle into the lead on Lap 84 before making his stop.

The strategy worked as Burton was able to maintain the top spot through Lap 87. He battled back to the lead onlap 89, then was running around the 10th place on the final lap of the Stage when drivers began wrecking ahead of him.

A total of 16 cars, including Burton’s Mustang, received damage in the crash, and he had to be pushed back to the pits after a red-flag period.

Rejoining the race in 29th place, two laps in arrears, Burton soldiered on through the final segment of the race. After a pit stop at Lap 160, Burton picked up two spots in an Overtime finish to take the checkered flag in 28th place, three laps behind.

Rasmussen Expands Points Lead with Exciting WWTR Victory

2023 - Bommarito Automotive Group 500

MADISON, Ill. (Saturday, Aug. 26, 2023) – Christian Rasmussen is one step closer to the INDY NXT by Firestone championship after enduring a close call and winning the OUTFRONT Showdown on Saturday night at World Wide Technology Raceway.

Championship leader Rasmussen earned his fourth victory of the season in the No. 6 HMD Motorsports with DCR car, outrunning the No. 26 Copart/USF Pro Championship car of Andretti Autosport rookie Louis Foster to the finish by 1.7805 seconds. Rasmussen has won three of the last four races in the INDYCAR development series to expand his lead to 50 points over Hunter McElrea of Andretti Autosport with three races remaining.

Rasmussen, from Denmark, earned his sixth career INDY NXT by Firestone victory at an event that featured just 30 minutes of track time before the 75-lap race due to persistent morning and afternoon thunderstorms in the St. Louis area. Rasmussen led that short practice by more than 3 mph. The starting grid was set by entrant points after qualifying was rained out.

“What a race,” Rasmussen said. “It’s been kind of a weird weekend. It’s definitely been the weekend of my career where I’ve had the least amount of laps around the track before we go into the race. I think we did a great job in practice; we were super quick. But we were super sharp on the changes we made, as well.”

McElrea finished third in the No. 27 Smart Motors car, with Jacob Abel fourth in the No. 51 Abel Motorsports machine. Danial Frost rounded out the top five in the No. 68 HMD Motorsports with DCR car.

Rasmussen held a steady lead of around one second over fellow front-row starter McElrea for the first 30 laps of the 75-lap race. But Rasmussen lost grip and drifted high in Turn 2 on the 1.25-mile oval when trying to lap the No. 28 DHL car of Andretti Autosport rookie Jamie Chadwick on Lap 30, using his quick hands to avoid hitting the SAFER Barrier in an impressive display of car control. Still, that loss of momentum let McElrea pounce.

McElrea powered past Rasmussen in Turn 3 on that lap and started to pull away. But just five laps later, Rasmussen used the slower No. 76 Juncos Hollinger Racing car of Rasmus Lindh as a pick and passed McElrea for the lead. He didn’t trail thereafter and ended up leading 70 of the 75 laps.

But there still was drama in the final 25 laps. Rasmussen led McElrea by 4.2745 seconds on Lap 51 but was losing grip from his Firestone tires, and McElrea pulled to within just .8516 of a second on Lap 55.

A possible duel for the lead between the two drivers was doused by a caution on Lap 56 when James Roe hit the SAFER Barrier in Turn 2 in the No. 29 Topcon car fielded by Andretti Autosport. Roe was unhurt.

That caution period saved some further wear on Rasmussen’s tires, and he pulled away from the field on the restart on Lap 63. But McElrea made one more unsuccessful move to try to dive under Rasmussen for the lead on Lap 65.

From there, Rasmussen pulled away. Meanwhile, Foster passed teammate McElrea for second with nine laps remaining, with the top three holding station to the finish.

The next race is the INDY NXT by Firestone Grand Prix of Portland on Sunday, Sept. 3 at Portland (Oregon) International Raceway. The season ends with a doubleheader Sept. 9-10 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California.

Sound Bites:

“I’m just dejected. It was such an amazing racecar. Drew (Blickensderfer, crew chief) and all these guys brought an incredible Smithfield Ford Mustang and we should’ve won the race. I’m just disappointed. Congrats to RFK. Congrats to Chris Buescher and Brad (Keselowski). I mean, they executed the end of that race flawlessly and they did a great job, but I thought we certainly had a car capable of getting up there and trying to win. Restarting on the third row of a green-white-checker, it’s really hard to materialize a run and make something happen and they did a good job.” – Aric Almirola, driver of the No. 10 Smithfield Ford Mustang

“We knew we were in a bad spot with the two teammates. The Fords could just push so much better than the Chevys. Chase (Elliott) gave me a couple of good shots but they can’t really stay attached and push because of the shape of their nose, so they just got in front of me. We fought all the way to the end and then they hung me in the middle and we finished ninth, but it was fun. I don’t really know (if it’s possible to predict what will happen in the playoffs), we’ll just go race every week and see what happens. I don’t want to predict anything.” – Kevin Harvick, driver of the No. 4 GEARWRENCH Ford Mustang

Next Up:

The next event on the NASCAR Cup Series schedule is the Cook Out Southern 500 on Sunday, Sept. 3 at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway. The first race in the 10-race NASCAR Playoffs starts at 6 p.m. EDT with live coverage provided by USA and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

LEGACY MOTOR CLUB Race Recap: Daytona International Speedway II

Josh Berry, No. 42 Sunseeker Resort Chevrolet Camaro ZL1

START: 29TH
FINISH: 22ND
OWNERS POINTS: 33RD

Josh Berry’s Post-Race Thoughts: “It was a decent finish for the No. 42 Sunseeker Resorts Chevy team. We picked the wrong lane on the last restart and gave up some spots. But overall, we learned a lot and brought the car home in one piece. At Daytona, that’s always not a bad thing.”

Erik Jones, No. 43 Allegiant Chevrolet Camaro ZL1

START: 24TH
FINISH: 18TH
POINTS: 28TH

Erik Jones Post-Race Thoughts: “It was just an OK day for the No. 43 Allegiant Chevy team. Just never really got in a good position to capitalize. We got a little flipped around on our last pit stop there and lost way too much ground to the second pack that pit. We were just too far back, too far late in the race and couldn’t really go anywhere with it. It’s a bummer. Obviously the end of our playoff hopes, but we’re going to 10 good tracks for us here coming up and hopefully we finish out strong.”
