Olympic Gold Medalist Bonnie Blair Named Grand Marshal for Clean Harbors 175

The Return of NASCAR To the Milwaukee Mile is Sunday, Aug. 27

WEST ALLIS, Wis. (Aug. 22, 2023) – Pure speed and skill contributed to Olympic hero Bonnie Blair’s amazing successes representing the United States in speed skating.

This Sunday, Aug. 27, the four-time Olympic Gold Medalist and Wisconsin resident will serve as the Grand Marshal and give the command to start the engines, akin to firing the starter’s pistol in speed skating, to begin the Clean Harbors 175 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series race at The Milwaukee Mile.

“I’m thrilled and honored to participate in the excitement of having NASCAR back here in Milwaukee for Wisconsin NASCAR fans,” said Blair. “When things go fast on an oval and turn left here at State Fair Park, it seems fitting for me to be involved!”

Blair, a member of the Wisconsin Hall of Fame and U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame, is the most decorated female U.S. Winter Olympian of all-time. She is married to four-time Olympic speed skater Dave Cruikshank and lives in the Milwaukee area. Between her philanthropic activities and motivational speaking engagements, you’ll often see Bonnie and Dave training athletes inside the Pettit National Ice Center adjacent to the Milwaukee Mile and the Wisconsin State Fair Park.

“The Pettit National Ice Center is still a big part of my life. My husband and I are working on increasing the number of athletes in our sport with our “DASH” 5013c program that involves young kids all the way up to Olympic hopefuls,” the four-time Olympian said.

Blair sped around the 400-meter oval inside the Pettit, still an official Olympic training facility, in preparation for her final Olympics in 1994, where she skated to Gold in both the 500 meter and 1,000-meter events. Now, sports fans can join her this Sunday to enjoy the pure speed of NASCAR racing on the historic one-mile oval next door.

“Bonnie Blair is iconic,” said Loan Mansy, Clean Harbors’ president of environmental sales and service. “We wanted an iconic sports figure to kick off this iconic race. Bonnie’s been making America proud and representing the best of the Midwest for decades. With our local Milwaukee ties and Safety-Kleen’s long history in the region, including being founded in the city, there are some obvious parallels that made Bonnie the ideal choice as grand marshal to our race.”

Clean Harbors is a top 20 private transportation fleet in the United States. Mansy, who was named a 2023 “Top Woman to Watch” by the Women In Trucking Association’s “Redefining the Road” magazine, will wave the green flag at the start of the race.

In her amazing career, Blair earned gold medals in three straight Olympics, and a total of five gold medals and one bronze medal in 500-meter and 1,000-meter competition in the 1988, 1992 and 1994 Winter Olympics. She’s also the 1986 short track skating world champion.

“Bonnie Blair is a true sports hero,” said Mansy.

This Sunday’s Clean Harbors 175 will be a test of pure speed and skill for the drivers racing in the NASCAR Playoffs, led by the leading NASCAR Playoffs driver from Seymour, Wis., Ty Majeski.

Tickets and event information can be found by visiting www.MilwaukeeMileRacing.com.

The Clean Harbors 175 from the Milwaukee Mile will be televised live on FS1 Sunday, August 27 beginning at 4 p.m. EDT. The race will also be broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90.

Todd Gilliland and the No. 38 Boot Barn Ford Mustang Team Daytona International Speedway Competition Notes

TEAM AND RACE NOTES

Todd Gilliland and the No. 38 team will make their second trip to Daytona Beach, Florida and the Daytona International Speedway this Friday and Saturday. Boot Barn is back to ride along with Gilliland for the regular season finale.

For Gilliland and the Boot Barn team, all chips are in to win on Saturday night to advance Gilliland into the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs. It’s a win-and-in situation for Gilliland who has impressed at Daytona in his limited Cup starts at the track.

Track activity will begin with qualifying on Friday at 5:00 p.m. ET. Saturday’s 400-mile race is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET on NBC.

COMPETITION NOTES

Gilliland returns to the track for the second time this year after competing in the Daytona Duels and the Daytona 500. Gilliland led laps in his Daytona Duel before finishing seventh.

In his other Daytona starts, Gilliland has proved he can lead in the draft and be a contender in the end.

CREW CHIEF RYAN BERGENTY

“It’s all or nothing and I love that pressure. I love this scenario and I know we’ve got the guys behind the wheel who can do it. Todd has wheeled it with the best of them at Daytona and that has earned him the respect to be in position to win.”

DRIVER TODD GILLILAND

“I can’t wait to go back to Daytona. It’s one of those tracks that really gets my adrenaline pumping. It can be stressful, but I love it. At these superspeedways, it’s all about surviving. You can’t make any mistakes and you need to know when it’s time to make a move and when to stay back and wait for a better opportunity.

“We haven’t had that luck you need, but we’ve been fast. We’ve been up front, but I need to be there at the end. It’s something we’re going to think about and make sure that we communicate. We want to win and that’s all that matters.

“I love seeing Boot Barn back on the car. They always deliver the coolest paint schemes. Hopefully I can show it off with a solid performance.”

Matt Tifft: From Setback to Improbable Comeback

In a resurgence that resonates both with the thrills of racing and the spirit of resilience, former NASCAR Cup Series standout, Matt Tifft, showcased an incredible amount of determination, returning to racing at Marshfield Speedway and Golden Sands Speedway this past weekend in the #36 4PL Solutions LLC Chevrolet.

Tifft, an inspirational figure and co-owner of Live Fast Motorsports, faced an unexpected derailment in 2019 due to a sudden epilepsy diagnosis while racing in the NASCAR Cup Series.

The challenges of such an obstacle might deter many, but for Matt Tifft, they merely set the stage for a grander return. With an unwavering commitment to returning to competition, Matt has redefined what it means to overcome and excel.

“I didn’t know even six months ago if this would ever be a reality (racing again). This journey over the last four years has given me an opportunity for me to learn and understand who I am, what I am capable of, and how I can come back stronger and better than ever.

Having to go through the process of working with my doctors, healing, (both mentally and physically) has been a huge undertaking, but a rewarding one.

When it came to race day, I knew I had prepared physically more than at any point in my career, but the mental obstacle still remained unknown. Checking that box was so huge, and a win within itself.

I have been so overwhelmed with support going into the race weekend by all of my supporters and am so thankful for everyone who reached out.”

This weekend bore testament to his mantra. Earning a pole position in Sunday’s qualifiers and securing Top 5 finishes in races over the weekend, Tifft’s return isn’t just about individual achievement—it’s a narrative of hope, grit, and relentless pursuit of excellence.

Stakeholders, fans, and racing enthusiasts are invited to join this monumental chapter of Matt’s journey. Stay abreast of all developments and behind-the-scenes action by following him on his official channels @matt_tifft.

Together, let’s celebrate not just the victories on the track, but the indomitable spirit that drives them.

Ford Performance NASCAR – Daytona 2 / Milwaukee Mile Advance

DAYTONA INTERNATIONAL / MILWAUKEE MILE NOTES

Friday, August 25 – NASCAR XFINITY Series, 7:30 p.m. ET (USA)

Saturday, August 26 – NASCAR Cup Series, 7:00 p.m. ET (NBC)

Sunday, August 27 – NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, 4:00 p.m. ET (FS1)

The intensity builds as the NASCAR Cup Series regular season concludes and this season’s Playoff line-up is determined at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday night. Going into this weekend, Mustang has clinched six Cup spots and holds two Xfinity transfer positions with three races to go in their regular season. For the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, it will mark the return to the Milwaukee Mile, where Ty Majeski will go for his second straight playoff win.

FORD CUP PLAYOFF ROSTER AT SIX

No manufacturer has clinched more Cup playoff positions than Ford, which saw its postseason roster grow to six after Brad Keselowski and Kevin Harvick secured spots following Sunday’s race at Watkins Glen International. Those two join previous race-winners Joey Logano (Atlanta), Ryan Blaney (Charlotte), Chris Buescher (Richmond and Michigan) and Michael McDowell (Indianapolis) with a potential seventh joining them on Saturday night at Daytona International Speedway.

A WIN TO GET IN

A handful of other Ford drivers can get into the Cup playoffs with a win on Saturday night, including Stewart-Haas Racing’s Aric Almirola and Team Penske’s Austin Cindric. Both drivers have won at the “World Center of Racing” with each getting their first Cup Series victory at the speedway. Almirola won while driving for Richard Petty Motorsports in July of 2014 while Cindric captured the Daytona 500 last season in his first race as driver of the famed No. 2 Ford Mustang.

Joey Logano: “We just need to build some momentum, right now. That’s the biggest thing is trying to get ourselves back into the Top-10 in points and gain some momentum – a couple, nice top-fives would be good. We’ll win if we can. Set ourselves up to try and make a run again. To see it (recent Ford success) is good, but we need to be more competitive as the No. 22. We need to get that piece a little bit better. There’s potential there and it shows that it’s possible. We just need to get a little quicker.”

Aric Almirola: “Daytona is certainly our last opportunity, and I feel good about it. I really do. I don’t know why, but I have a great feeling about it. I don’t see any reason why we can’t go to Daytona and win that race. I know there are a lot of things that happen there that are out of our control, but for the things that are in our control, I feel like we’re very capable of going in and winning. When you go to Daytona, you can’t be successful there without having things go your way. I am certain that we’ll have to have luck on our side and things go our way. But, it has been a good place for me over the years. I’ve had a fair amount of success there in Xfinity and Cup cars. We had a lot of speed there in February for the Daytona 500 – we won the Duel and we ran up front of the Daytona 500 all day and got in a crash late in the race. But I feel like we will have a very fast Smithfield Ford Mustang when we get there.”

Ryan Blaney: “I don’t feel like the ride around in the back works very well anymore at Daytona. You just need to go race, establish yourself and be smart at the same time – not throw wild moves on Lap 30 of the thing. You have to prepare for the end. At the same time, you have to compete and go racing. You have to show guys that your car is strong. That’s how you have help at the end of those things. If you’re racing all day, you show that you’re fast and have speed, and you can take and give pushes, guys pay attention to that. Then they’re like, ‘Okay, I’m going to go with you if you make a move at the end of this race.’ It’s because you’ve shown the speed in your car. That’s how I’ve approached these races – be smart, but at the same time, you have to actually race.”

Chris Buescher: “The best part is, we certainly get to go into that one with a little bit of weight off our shoulders. Go race, win that thing – like we always do. But, we don’t need to have it in the back of our mind that we need to finish or try to get some points to make the cut-off. Keeping in mind, I hate when you have to points race but you do get to that point at times. With that said, we’re in a good spot and we can go in there with a lot less worry than in times past. Hopefully, Brad [Keselowski] and I can get our Mustangs to the front like we’ve been able to at all these other superspeedways, and can complete the task – that last one percent of the race, we have to tidy it up.”

Austin Cindric: “What makes speedway racing much more challenging than really, any other handling racetrack, is that it’s based on the decisions and mindset of yourself and your competitors. Those types of things change when you’re pack racing. Those are also things you can’t really prepare for or predict. It’s a very social style of racing. It’s never an opportunity you want to put yourself into, to where you are relying on others. This is an environment that’s much more in our control. It is what it is for everybody else. I’ve had success. We’ve had speed at these styles of racetracks. I’m not afraid to go there and put my name in the hat and say that I can win because I know I can.”

FIREBALL ROBERTS IGNITES FORD FURY

After Tiny Lund was crowned Ford’s first-ever Daytona 500 winner in 1963, Fireball Roberts gave the manufacturer its first season sweep at the speedway in spectacular fashion by driving his 1963 Holman-Moody Ford to a midsummer victory of the Firecracker 400. Roberts bested the likes of teammate Fred Lorenzen and Wood Brothers Racing’s Marvin Panch and a top-five that included the Mercury of Darel Dieringer as well as Ned Jarrett’s Ford. Originally called the Firecracker 250, the race was 100 laps until expanding to the current 400 miles (160 laps) in 1963. The thrilling debut of the elongated version saw 39 lead changes with Roberts beating Lorenzen by only a car length.

BLANEY WINS WILD FINISH

Ryan Blaney endured a chaotic end to the Coke Zero Sugar 400 in 2021 at Daytona as he swiftly escaped a multi-car pile-up exiting the third turn with four laps remaining. Blaney, who was running fifth in the middle row of three-wide competition, moved up the track to evade the spinning cars seen from his windshield and inherited the lead. In overtime, Blaney managed to stay out front, fending off Kevin Harvick and Chris Buescher in the final laps before the race’s eighth caution, subsequently giving Blaney his third win of the season.

CUSTER AND HERBST MAKE LATE-SEASON PUSH

While Daytona is not the regular season finale for the Xfinity Series, the battle for a Top-10 position in the playoffs intensifies. Cole Custer goes into Daytona seeking his third-straight Top-10 finish to improve upon his fourth place standing in the points (775). Riley Herbst holds the bubble spot (610), but notably kicked off his 2023 campaign with a sixth-place performance at Daytona earlier this year.

MOMENTUM BEHIND MAJESKI

Ty Majeski kicked off his playoff campaign with a victory at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park a few weeks ago, and now the Seymour, WI, native and Thorsport Racing driver heads back to his home state at the Milwaukee Mile. Defending series champion Zane Smith also enters Milwaukee with momentum, having posted four top-five finishes in the last five races. Thorsport’s Ben Rhodes and Matt Crafton also continue their playoff run, giving Ford four contenders for this year’s championship.

While the team was knocking on the door over the first 10 points-paying races, the breakthrough win finally came at Dover (Del.) Motor Speedway on May 1, and Truex has added two more points-paying victories and four overall this season – June 11 at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway and July 17 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon.

● Ducks Unlimited Riding Along at Daytona: Longtime partner Bass Pro Shops and Joe Gibbs Racing welcome Ducks Unlimited to Truex’s No. 19 Toyota Camry TRD for Saturday night’s Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. The world leader in wetlands conservation, Ducks Unlimited has protected or restored more than 16 million acres of habitat since 1937. Bass Pro Shops has been a major contributor to that achievement. In the last three years alone, more than $2 million in Bass Pro Shops contributions has led to more than 76,000 acres of habitat conserved. Just as impressive is that Ducks Unlimited has conserved nearly 70,000 acres of wetlands in Florida alone since the 1980s.

● 34 and Counting: Truex’s win at New Hampshire was the 34th of his Cup Series career, putting him in a tie with 2004 Cup Series champion Kurt Busch for 25th on the all-time win list in NASCAR’s top series.

● In his 36 career Cup Series outings at Daytona, Truex has three top-five finishes, six top-10s, and he’s led a total of 144 laps. His average Daytona finish is 21.3.

● Outside of the NASCAR Cup Series at Daytona, Truex has made seven career NASCAR Xfinity Series starts there. Of his 13 career Xfinity Series wins, only one is at Daytona, coming in July 2005. Truex is a two-time Xfinity Series champion (2004 and 2005) to go with his 2017 Cup Series championship.

● So far this season, Truex has scored three points-paying wins, eight top-five finishes, 14 top-10s and has led an impressive 828 laps through 25 races. To put the laps-led number in perspective, Truex led just 572 during the entire 36-race season in 2022.

● Ahead at this Stage: With his two stage wins at Michigan three weekends ago, Truex extended his lead in the NASCAR Cup Series with 61 stage wins since the beginning of the stage era in 2017. He is the only driver with 10 or more stage sweeps, with his latest sweep coming at Michigan, and that sweep of the opening two stages added more valuable playoff points to carry into and through the postseason. Truex also leads the series all-time in stage points with 1,967.

● After last weekend’s sixth-place finish at Watkins Glen, Truex retained his lead in the Cup Series driver standings. He has 861 points, 39 ahead of second-place JGR teammate Denny Hamlin. The regular-season champion will receive 15 playoff points when the postseason begins Labor Day weekend in September. Between his stage points and the playoff points earned with his three victories, Truex now has accumulated 20 playoff points this season. With Daytona as the final race of the regular season, Truex will look to clinch the regular-season title and the important playoff points that go with it this weekend.

Martin Truex Jr., Driver of the No. 19 Bass Pro Shops/Ducks Unlimited Toyota Camry TRD

How do you attack trying to win at Daytona knowing how chaotic that race can be?

“I think we’re in a pretty good spot, we just need to be smart and need to do just what we know how to do. Daytona is always a crapshoot, so you never know what can happen. We just have to be mindful of the first two stages and see what we need to do in the final stage and that will set our strategy for the rest of the race. Really excited to have Ducks Unlimited on board along with Bass Pro Shops this weekend. They do amazing work in conserving and restoring in Florida and around the country. Would love to get those guys a good run and be able to bring home the regular-season championship and those 15 playoff points that go with it.”

Do you feel any similarities between this season and your 2017 championship season?

“Yeah, I feel like we’re there. You never know what can happen in the playoffs. The elimination format, it could be crazy. You never know. I feel like every single weekend we’re right there. We’re in the mix, we have really good speed and a shot to win, it seems like, on a regular basis. That’s kind of where you want to be. I feel like in our years when we won our championship or finished second and were right there, it was kind of the same feeling. Every week was OK, we’re right there, and if we do everything right, we’re going to be in the hunt for the win. Yeah, that feels good and, hopefully, we can keep that up for the next 11 races.”

What are races like at Daytona?

“Daytona is a wide-open crapshoot. Everyone holds it wide open. You get down to the end of the race and we’ve seen the crashes over and over on the green-white-checkereds. Everyone just holds it wide open and, if they have any momentum at all, they just try to drive through the guy in front of them and it spins him out and crashes him. It’s really just a wild card, it’s kind of crazy. I wouldn’t say I’m not unconformable there, but it kind of stinks to get down to the end, if you make it that far, to just get crashed at the end. I’m hoping we can have some better luck this weekend with our Ducks Unlimited Bass Pro Shops Camry.”

Did superspeedway racing change with the NextGen car last year?

“I think superspeedways probably haven’t changed much as opposed to some of the other types of tracks. Just the way you can bump draft with this car is totally different than the previous-generation cars. I think right now there are a lot more options as far as what lanes work. It used to be that you never wanted anyone on the outside, and now you can pass guys on the bottom a bit easier and that sets up some other opportunities. I feel like the racing has been fun on superspeedways, but you have to be really aggressive, as well.”

Michael McDowell Helps Announce New FR8 Racing Program. Daytona Scheme to Promote New Venture

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (August 22, 2023) – Michael McDowell and Front Row Motorsports (FRM) will help promote the new FR8 Racing program this week and throughout the weekend at the Daytona International Speedway during the NASCAR Cup Series regular season finale.

The FR8 Racing scheme will adorn No. 34 Ford Mustang as this new venture will bring Fr8 Auctions passion for racing to the grassroots level in 2024. FR8 Racing is a new late model program that will run out of Dawsonville, Georgia and will provide NASCAR Cup Series level drivers an opportunity to race in some of the most prestigious short track events in the country, on a per race basis. The most exciting part of this new race venture will be the focus on new driver development.

“We are excited to announce this new program and be able to promote it with Michael and FRM at Daytona,” said Matt Erickson, President, FR8 Racing. “This is a program for young and talented drivers looking for an opportunity to showcase their talents in excellent equipment while benefiting from veteran coaching inside and outside the car. This is exactly what FR8 Racing will focus on.”

Fr8Auctions has and continues to be a proud partner of FRM and is excited to kickoff this new venture outside of the asset recovery business.

“We have already worked with a few NASCAR Cup Series drivers in short track events like the Snowball Derby and during the North Wilkesboro All-Star week,” said Marcus Barela, Owner, Fr8Auctions and FR8Racing. “We are so excited to continue this focus on a grassroots level while also continuing our long-standing partnership of Michael and the entire Front Row Motorsports team.”

McDowell also sees the positives in the new program.

“Everyone needs an opportunity to continue their racing career,” said McDowell. “And people like Marcus and Matt at Fr8 Auctions, and now FR8 Racing, only do things first class. This is a program that will help future racers for generations to come while also allowing NASCAR Cup Series stars to stay connected with the grassroots fans and events. I think this will be nothing but great for everyone involved.”

Look for additional announcements at www.FR8Racing.com featuring driver line ups, future race dates and program application details later in 2023.

The FR8 Racing scheme will debut on the track under the lights this Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. ET on NBC. Track activity will begin with qualifying on Friday at 5:00 p.m.

CORVETTE RACING AT VIR: A GT Challenge

One lap short a year ago, Garcia and Taylor eager for another shot at VIR win

DETROIT (Aug. 22, 2023) – After coming tantalizingly close a year ago, Corvette Racing’s Antonio Garcia and Jordan Taylor get another shot at their second victory together at Virginia International Raceway on Sunday in the Michelin GT Challenge, the ninth round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

Garcia and Taylor were runners-up 12 months ago in the GT-only race with Taylor finishing eight-tenths of a second from the victory in the pair’s No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C8.R. It was a thrilling finish with the Corvette gaining more than two seconds on the eventual winning car on the final lap.

One more lap and the Garcia/Taylor duo might be entering VIR as defending race winners. A victory this weekend would be Corvette Racing’s sixth at VIR and third with the C8.R in its farewell season. Garcia ranks second in the field with three VIR wins – all of them overall – which gives him one more than Taylor.

Garcia and Taylor won earlier this year at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in GT Daytona (GTD) PRO, their lone win so far this season. They’ve been on the class podium in four other races.

Returning to Victory Circle also would keep championship hopes alive for the No. 3 Corvette drivers, their team and Chevrolet. The group is second in points and badly in need of victories in any of the remaining three rounds to challenge for the GTD PRO Drivers, Teams and Manufacturers titles.

The Michelin GT Challenge at VIR is scheduled for 2:10 p.m. ET on Sunday, August 27. The race will air live on USA beginning at 2 p.m. ET and stream live on Peacock inside the United States and IMSA.com outside the U.S. IMSA Radio will air all on-track sessions beginning with Friday morning’s practice at IMSA.com with the race call also on XM 207 and SiriusXM Online 992.

ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R: “Going to VIR is nice because this is one of the first tracks I raced on in America. I liked it from the very start. It has some really fast and intense corners, long straights and some technical parts in the slower-speed turns. It’s like a test for both the driver and the car every lap. I’ve had many good races and wins there with Corvette Racing, and we came up just a little short last year. Hopefully we’re that much better this year and can get the win we need for the championship.”

JORDAN TAYLOR, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R: “I’m looking forward to the weekend. I think we had pace to win at Road America, and VIR should be a similar type of track for us. Being a GT-only race, it’ll be another intense event without being able to rely on traffic to make some opportunities. VIR was one of the strongest races we had last year, so I think we should be in good shape this time around. We’ve had a few races slip through our fingers this year, so I’m hoping we can cap the season off with some wins. Let’s start this weekend.”

  • 4: Overall VIR race wins for Corvette Racing – 2016, 2017, 2020 and 2021. Antonio Garcia was part of the first three
  • 5: Class wins at VIR for Corvette Racing, the most among IMSA entrants. Tommy Milner and Oliver Gavin won in ALMS GT competition in 2012, and Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen won overall in 2016 and 2017. Garcia and Jordan Taylor drove the C8.R to a win in 2020 with Milner and Nick Tandy victorious in 2021.

  • 279: Event starts by Corvette Racing since 1999
  • 6,183.57: Number of racing miles completed by Corvette Racing in its nine previous trips to Virginia International Raceway. It surpassed 6,000 miles after 30 laps in last year’s race

To put that in perspective, Corvette Racing is more than halfway to the distance traveled by Apollo 13 – the longest manned spaceflight in history: 622,268 miles. That means Corvette Racing has raced to the moon and more than halfway back!

Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Autosport Lamborghini Super Trofeo Team Heads to VIRginia International Raceway to Continue Championship Battles

(Alton, Vir.) Aug. 22, 2023 — Following an impressive weekend for the entire Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Autosport (WTRAndretti) stable at Road America, the team now heads to VIRginia International Raceway focused on the Lamborghini Super Trofeo (LST) class championship battles.

AN UNSTOPPABLE PAIRING
Kyle Marcelli and Danny Formal continue to prove perfect on the 2023 Lamborghini Super Trofeo season after capturing their fifth and sixth wins of the year at Road America. Now, the pairing who appears to be nearly unstoppable returns to VIRginia International Raceway, the site to which they clinched the 2022 PRO Championship title, leading this year’s championship by 33 points ahead of second place.

LOOKING FOR THE BREAKTHROUGH
With a promising showing of speed at Road America, collecting pole position for the doubleheader weekend, Ryan Norman has set his next breakthrough in his rookie Lamborghini Super Trofeo season: a win. Although victory has eluded the Ohio-native driver by inches, Norman is now focused on challenging for his first LST victory at VIRginia International Raceway while also trying to move into the second position of the points standings – currently only one point behind in third.

MOMENTUM IS KEY
With a successful weekend in the books at Road America, including a class win, Nate Stacy shifts focus to VIRginia International Raceway set to capitalize on the momentum built between he and co-driver Nick Persing. This time Stacy will return to the PRO class for the VIR doubleheader weekend as a solo driver though with Persing unable to attend the VIR weekend.

POISED FOR SUCCESS
Continuing to improve each weekend on track, Graham Doyle achieved his first LB Cup victory at Road America. Doyle has shown what he is capable of, adapting to each new track he encounters. As VIR will be another new track for the 17-year-old rookie, Doyle is ready to show that he is a proven competitor in the LB Cup field and will continue to fight for the top step of the podium.
The Lamborghini Super Trofeo schedule at VIRginia International Raceway begins with practice on Friday, August 25th at 9:40 a.m. ET. followed by qualifying to set the field for both races on Saturday, August 26th at 9:25 a.m. ET. Race 1 of the LST doubleheader weekend at VIR is set for Saturday, August 26th at 2:35 p.m. ET and Race 2 is slated for 11:30 a.m. ET on Sunday, August 27th with Peacock broadcasting all coverage live for both races.

Kyle Marcelli, No. 1 WTRAndretti (PRO)
“The WTRAndretti team is firing on all cylinders right now with success across all categories and with all cars, we hope to keep this winning momentum going to VIR. Of course, the competition is keeping the pressure on us, so we need to remain focused and execute to the best of your ability.”

“VIR is one of the trickiest circuits in the country for both getting the race car set-up correct and driving on the limit. The challenge is exciting, and we look forward to this year’s return.”

Danny Formal, No. 1 WTRAndretti (PRO)
“We’re heading back to VIRginia International Raceway, it’s my second favorite track in the country. We had great success last year – we won our championship here with two rounds to spare – and it was a fantastic event for us last year. I’m super excited to head back there and try to continue the streak, really wanting to win every race this year. The WTRAndretti team has given us a fantastic race car. The No. 1 Harrison Contracting Lamborghini Palm Beach has been phenomenal this year.”

Ryan Norman, No. 84 WTRAndretti (PRO)
“Really excited for VIR race weekend! We showed so much pace in Road America and even though Race 2 didn’t go to plan at the end we have a lot of great things to build on going into this race weekend. I have had lots of success at VIR so will be looking to continue challenging for the win and hopefully things fall into place.”

Nate Stacy, No. 8 WTRAndretti (PRO)
“Coming into this weekend I have a very unique situation, with Nick unable to join us due to a scheduling conflict. I will return to the Pro class as a solo driver. While I’m excited to get to drive solo in a car once again, I’m sad to not have my co-driver joining me for the weekend. Regardless, we will push forward and try and get the best result possible at VIR!”

Graham Doyle, No. 10 DEX Imaging with WTRAndretti (LB Cup)
“I believe after Road America we saw some really great successes. I got my first win and a podium on the second day, so a double-podium weekend! I am going to try and carry this momentum through and try to stay on the podium to keep my streak alive. I learned a lot more about the setup of the car, how the car feels and changes based on the track and everything that goes into it. I really believe at a new track like this, with time spent on the simulator and working with the team for my fourth weekend, I am knowing the car much better and able to set myself up for success.”
