Ankrum rallies from off-track excursion to win at Mid-Ohio

LEXINGTON, Ohio - JULY 8: Tyler Ankrum, driver of the #61 LiUNA Toyota, speaks to the media, after winning the ARCA Menards Series SmartCoat 150 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on July 7, 2023, in Lexington, Ohio. Photo: Tucker White/SpeedwayMedia.com

LEXINGTON, Ohio — Tyler Ankrum led 20 of the 42 laps to score his maiden ARCA Menards Series victory at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Now if you read that lede without watching the SmartCoat 150, Friday, you’d think he all but put on a clinic.

Except he ran off-course.

With 18 laps to go, Ankrum out-braked himself and veered off into the gravel trap in Turn 1. Which he thought would work, because he did the same thing on the first restart.

Tyler Ankrum (02:46):

“So I’m thinking, ‘OK, I got more grip because I’ll be on the bottom, I’ll be in the rubber,'” he said. “And the further you can get close to the curb, the less uncambered the pavement is.”

Instinctively, he throttled up and escaped the kitty litter. If he didn’t, it was game over.

“I was probably going to lose a lap or two and my race would be done.”

He trailed the leader, however, by seven seconds. So barring a late caution, Ankrum needed the drive of a lifetime to win.

“I mean, in order to do that, you have to be not only really good on brakes, but you also have to be turning really good and have drive off,” he said.

Fortunately for Ankrum, he worked on doing just that over the “past couple of years,” and cut the deficit by seven seconds over the course of 12 laps.

Then with five laps to go, he made his move on Dean Thompson in the keyhole.

Ankrum drove away from the field and crossed the line to win.

And with a car he thought didn’t have the speed to reel in the leaders.

“It wasn’t until about a lap or two later, I passed one or two cars already and I could still see the leader when we’re coming out in Turn 2,” he said. “And I was thinking to myself, ‘I’ve got the car to do this. I can do this myself. At the least, I’ll make it back to the top-three.”

Of course, as one-off, this probably won’t have major championship implications. Jessie Love leaves Mid-Ohio with a 43-point lead.

Preparing yourself for the first meeting with your car accident lawyer

After a major collision, speaking with a car accident lawyer can help you with direction, clarity, and assistance. But since this is probably the first time you’ve scheduled a session with a personal injury lawyer, you might be unsure of the questions to pose to get the most out of this chance.

If you’ve never been in a scenario like this before, setting up a meeting with a car accident lawyer can be a little intimidating. But with a little planning, you may make the process go more quickly so that your lawyer can assist you in comprehending your legal possibilities. Here’s how to prepare for your meeting with a potential lawyer for your case and how you can start getting legal assistance right away. Read carefully.

Meeting your lawyer for the first time – What to carry

Your accident lawyer should be able to let you know what to bring when you schedule your consultation. Don’t be reluctant to bring supporting documents if you have any material that may be helpful, even if it wasn’t something that was requested right away. Some items you’ll probably want to bring with you are listed below:

  • Health care documents: Bring all of your medical records, such as those from the hospital, physical therapy records, ambulance and emergency care records, and other providers who treated you for a condition connected to a crash. Include copies of all diagnoses made by medical professionals, along with their future outlook and treatment suggestions.
  • Police report: The organization that generated them, such as the neighborhood police, highway patrol, or county sheriff’s office, can provide you with any police or accident reports connected to the collision.
  • Insurance details: Bring any bills you have received from the insurance company, as well as your insurance information, including what and how much is covered under your coverage.
  • Health care and medical bills: Bring your clinic, hospital, rehabilitation service, psychologist, chiropractor, and any other healthcare providers’ invoices that you received for services related to the crash, in addition to your real medical records.

Few Vital Questions to Ask an Accident Lawyer

You can expect to receive information from the attorney in addition to giving them information about your life and the accident, so be ready with questions for your initial session and be expecting good responses in return. Here are some examples of possible inquiries:

  • How long have you been in the legal profession?
  • How much of your practice and time is devoted to instances like mine involving car accidents?
  • Have you handled many accident claims, and have any of them ever gone to trial?
  • Do you anticipate that my case will provide any difficulties?
  • Will you be working on my case, or someone else?
  • Is it possible for me to meet any other lawyers who will be handling my case?
  • How are your services priced? Do you work on a contingency fee basis?

You have the option to move on and select a different company if the responses you get are unsatisfactory. It’s perfectly acceptable for you to determine that this lawyer isn’t the best fit for your case. Don’t allow yourself to be pressured or intimidated into using the services of a stranger.

NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series returns to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for the O’Reilly Auto Parts 150 at Mid-Ohio

ARCA Menards Series kicks off the event today with the Zinsser SmartCoat 150; green flag at 6 p.m. ET

LEXINGTON, Ohio (July 7, 2023) – The NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series (NCTS) makes its second ever appearance at the 2.258-mile, 13-turn Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course this weekend for the O’Reilly Auto Parts 150 at Mid-Ohio. The green flag for the race drops tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. ET. The two-day event starts off today with NCTS practice and qualifying followed by the ARCA Menards Series race beginning at 6 p.m. ET in the Zinsser SmartCoat 150.

The fender-banging weekend will include a lineup of notable drivers in both series. ARCA’s entry list includes actor Frankie Muniz, known for his role in the FOX sitcom “Malcolm in the Middle,” competing in the No. 30 for Rette Jones Racing. Saturday’s O’Reilly Auto Parts 150 could potentially feature two drivers in the starting field who have NTT INDYCAR SERIES experience at Mid-Ohio. Conor Daly will drive the No. 41 for Niece Motorsports, and Marco Andretti will make his NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Trucks debut in the No. 7 for Spire Motorsports. Daly and Andretti have made eight and 15 starts, respectively, in INDYCAR at The Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio.

“I can’t wait to get my feet wet in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series,” said Andretti in an interview with Racer.com. “I’m grateful for Group 1001 and Spire Motorsports for making this happen. I have a lot of laps in an Indy car around Mid-Ohio. It’s going to be a bit different but a lot of fun. The Cup Series guys I have spoken to said I will love it.”

Daly, Andretti and the rest of the NCTS lineup, 39 entries, will battle today to qualify for tomorrow’s 36-car field. Saturday’s O’Reilly Auto Parts 150 at Mid-Ohio will feature 67 action-packed laps during NASCAR’s only national series stop in Ohio. Last year’s inaugural NCTS race at Mid-Ohio saw Parker Kligerman and Zane Smith cross the finish line in close formation with Kligerman’s No. 75 Henderson Racing Chevrolet taking a narrow .119-second margin of victory.

ThorSport Racing, based in nearby Sandusky, Ohio, is the local NASCAR team to watch at Mid-Ohio this weekend. The Ohio team brings three drivers in the top-10 of the NCTS point standings to the track: Ty Majeski (4th), Ben Rhodes (5th) and Matt Crafton (9th). Majeski, who trails series points leader Corey Heim by only 17 points, will look to continue his run of recent road course success on the team’s home track.

“We’ve had good runs on road courses the past couple seasons,” said Majeski. “We finished third at Sonoma (Raceway) and third this year at COTA (Circuit of the Americas), so we’ve been knocking on the door of a road course win. Hopefully, we can put it all together this weekend for our home race.”

Tonight, the Toledo, Ohio-based ARCA Menards Series continues its 71st season running with the Zinsser SmartCoat 150. Taylor Gray won last year’s ARCA Menards Series race at Mid-Ohio in a 25-car field. This year Jesse Love leads the series in the points standings heading to Mid-Ohio with actor Frankie Muniz chasing in second place. The 42-lap, 94.84-mile race starts at 6:00 p.m. ET.

Additional race weekend highlights include open-wheel action via a doubleheader for the USF Juniors Presented by Cooper Tires. In its second season, the series serves as the first step in the USF Pro Championships Presented by Cooper Tires development ladder system. Between NCTS, ARCA and USF Juniors, four races will take the green flag across the two-day event.

Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course offers an exceptional family value. Children 12 and under are admitted free to Mid-Ohio when accompanied by a ticketed adult. Free parking is also available. General admission is $60 for the weekend, and grandstand seating is free on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets are available online at midohio.com or can be purchased at the gate for an additional $10 per ticket. Tent and motorhome camping is available on site.

Racing to End Alzheimer’s team ready to race in Toronto

Nick Galante will carry the iconic livery in the Sports Car Championship Canada

LOS ANGELES (7 July 2023) – The Racing to End Alzheimer’s team will take on the upcoming Honda Indy Toronto, with Nick Galante contesting the Sports Car Championship Canada presented by Michelin behind the wheel of a very special Mercedes AMG GT4 prepared by Toronto-based VPX Motorsport.

“I appreciate that this opportunity came about,” said Galante. “I’ve known Chris Bye (President of St. Catharines-based FEL Motorsports, who owns the Canadian series) for a few years through the IMSA paddock. He’s been trying to help us find a way to come run with them and this came together with a local team — VPX Motorsport — that gives Phil and me a chance to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s in Canada.”
The No. 77 Mercedes gives families the chance to honor loved ones who have suffered from Alzheimer’s disease. For a $250 CAN donation, the family member’s name and hometown is placed on the car, and their photo can be posted on the R2EndAlz website’s tribute page. All donations are matched by Legistics (Phil Frengs), VPX Motorsport (Vince Partap, M.D.) and FEL Motorsport (in the name of Barbara Glover), which means that a $250 donation becomes $1000 – with 100% going to the Alzheimer Society of Toronto.

Racing to End Alzheimer’s partner in Toronto will be VPX Motorsport, led by Interventional Radiologist Dr. Vince Partap. He notes the similarities between the levels of precision and teamwork involved in both medicine and racing.

“The level of excellence we have to practice in medicine is what I am trying to replicate in racing, where every millisecond counts,” said Dr. Partap. “I accomplish this by giving people in my organization the guidance and opportunity to do just that. When I select partners, I select them not just for their name on the car, but their willingness to support people. Because ultimately, supporting people is why racing succeeds, why medicine succeeds and why charity succeeds. I believe that Phil and I share similar principles and why we have so easily collaborated to bring that organization to Canada and can work together to drive its future success here.”

“We as an organization are honored to work with Phil and R2EA in making this a success.”

Galante has only been racing since 2007, and the story of how his racing career began – and how he connected with Racing to End Alzheimer’s founder Phil Frengs – has taken on almost legendary status in the sport: the broken back as a result of a skiing accident that made him decide to take control of his life – and find his passion.

“You only live once, right?” said Galante. “I loved racing, and I loved golf. I had decided to become a race car driver and a friend of mine told me that WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca and Pebble Beach were very near each other. I thought – those are two of the top venues in their industries! I decided to move to California, that I would put on a tie and walk into Pebble Beach and get a job, and I’m going to go to Laguna Seca and learn how to race cars.

“And that’s what I did.”

Galante went to work as a caddy at the renowned California golf course and began taking classes at the Jim Russell school, discovering a natural talent for racing. He earned a scholarship for the Jim Russell F3 Championship Series and won two Masters F3 titles. But later that year, his life would take another dramatic turn when he caddied for Phil Frengs at Pebble Beach, and a friendship began. Frengs’ company Legistics began to support Galante, who would go on to win 2016 and 2018 championship titles in what is now the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge.

But Frengs’ wife Mimi was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s, and in 2017, he formed Racing to End Alzheimer’s as a way to help other families honor their loved ones, and to raise money and awareness about the terrible disease. Galante was happy to race in the new livery, as the fight is also a very personal one for him.

“Alzheimer’s affected my family as well – I lost my grandmother to the disease 10 years ago, and recently lost my aunt as well. There isn’t much you can do to help, but Phil wanted to do something in Mimi’s honor, so he created this charity to make a difference.”

The Sports Car Championship Canada joins the NTT INDYCAR SERIES at the Honda Indy Toronto, contesting a tripleheader of races: Saturday at 8:30 a.m. and 4:35 p.m., and Sunday at Noon. The races will be live streamed on the FEL Motorsports YouTube channel.

About Racing to End Alzheimer’s

In 2013, Phil Frengs’ wife Mimi was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s Disease. Their experience with the disease led Frengs to a seminal moment: his company, Legistics, had long sponsored a team in IMSA sports car racing and he realized an opportunity to raise money and awareness for the fight against the disease. In 2017, he formed Racing to End Alzheimer’s, giving fans the opportunity to honor loved ones by putting their names on the race car via donation – with Legistics matching each donation. 100% of those donations go to the two organizations the team supports:

The Nantz National Alzheimer’s Center at Houston Methodist Hospital is exploring cutting edge strategies in therapy, care and research to find a cure for these dementias. NNAC was founded by longtime CBS Sports broadcaster Jim Nantz and his family in honor of his father, Jim, Jr., who passed away after a 13-year battle with Alzheimer’s.

Joe Graf Jr. Quoteboard:

On Atlanta Motor Speedway: “I am looking for some redemption for RSS Racing this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Honestly, because we had a better car than what we finished last weekend at Chicago and because we should have easily finished inside the top-15 or better in the spring at Atlanta if not for some contact with another competitor on the final restart.

“I liked Atlanta before the repave and I like it now too. Obviously, it’s two different styles of racing and the cars react differently from the spring race to the summer race because of the track temperatures.

“I learned a lot last July and hope to apply that to our No. 38 CoverSeal® Ford Mustang on Saturday night. We’ve been steady but as we approach the second half of the Xfinity Series season, we definitely want to make some improvements and be running consistently as close to the top-20 as possible and throw some top-10 finishes in there too.

“We are resilient and we will continue to fight, including Saturday night at Atlanta.”

On The 2023 Season: “We started the year off really strong between RSS Racing and Joe Gibbs Racing, but unfortunately we’ve been on a rollercoaster throughout the season.

“I know we just have to survive this stretch of unique races which includes a street course, a hybrid superspeedway, a flat track, a fast track and another road course. Hopefully in-between all the different types of tracks we’ll find a rhythm that will allow us to continue to accelerate in a positive direction.

“I just need to continue to stay focused, communicate with my team and utilize the knowledge that I’ve gained over the past three years to recover and have my best Xfinity Series season yet.”

CORVETTE RACING AT MONZA: Ben Keating Transcript

Corvette Racing’s Ben Keating was part of the FIA World Endurance Championship’s pre-event press conference today ahead of Sunday’s Six Hours of Monza. Keating and teammates Nicky Catsburg and Nico Varrone share the No. 33 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C8.R and can wrap up the GTE Am Drivers and Teams championships this weekend on the strength of wins at Sebring, Portimao and Le Mans:

BEN KEATING, NO. 33 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R: “It’s obviously been a fairy-tale season. You’d be crazy to expect it to go this way. Things just seem to have fallen into our hands, really. We haven’t always had the fastest car, and we’ve gotten extremely lucky many times throughout the season. What really makes this kind of unique is that I can look back at every race and I can point to different people on the team where I feel like they have made a specific difference. It’s really been much more of a team win throughout the season, which has been really nice. It’s a really well-run team but a tight-knit group of people who all love to do well and love to perform for each other. It’s a really fun team to be part of. There have been plenty of races so far this season where I feel like I have let everybody down but other people have picked up and covered it for me. It’s been great. Our plan is to do what we’ve been doing – put one step in front of the other, do our job well and hopefully we get enough points to close it out at some point in the next three races.”

ON LAST YEAR’S RACE AT MONZA WITH TF SPORT AND IF THERE IS ANY UNFINISHED BUSINESS: “I really love this track. I feel like I have always been quick here. Unfortunately it has not loved me back. I had a blowout on the backstraight in 2021 and blew the whole front of the car off – the bonnet, the splitter, the floor, the exhaust… it was a big explosion. And of course last year we had a rock that broke the bleeder noodle off the caliper. Going into the braking zone at the second chicane, we had no brakes which ended our race last year in dramatic fashion. I don’t believe this place owes me anything. But we’re going to go back at it again and see if we can change that luck.”

The Six Hours of Monza is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. CET / 6:30 a.m. ET on Sunday, July 9. MotorTrend and MotorTrend Plus will provide both live television and streaming coverage, as will the FIA WEC app. Radio Le Mans will stream audio coverage of qualifying and the race.

CORVETTE RACING AT CTMP & MONZA: By the Numbers

  • 1: As in one team, one manufacturer and one model of car for 25 years of racing: Corvette Racing, Chevrolet and the Chevrolet Corvette
  • 3: Generations of Corvette Racing entries at CTMP since 2000 – Corvette C5-R (2004), Corvette C6.R (2005-13) and Corvette C7.R (2016-2019). The Corvette C8.R raced at the track for the first time last season.
  • 3: Number of GTE Am wins in four FIA WEC races this season for Nicky Catsburg, Ben Keating and Nico Varrone with the No. 33 Corvette C8.R.
  • 6: Hours difference between the IMSA team competing at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and the Corvette Racing WEC team competing at Monza on the same days.
  • 7: Number of drivers who have won races at CTMP for Corvette Racing. Johnny O’Connell (six), Jan Magnussen (five), Oliver Gavin (four), Ron Fellows (three) and Olivier Beretta (two) each have multiple wins there with the team.
  • 7: Pole positions for Corvette Racing drivers at CTMP. Oliver Gavin leads with three with Antonio Garcia (2016) being the most recent.
  • 11: Class victories at Corvette Racing at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park – all since 2001.
  • 14: Manufacturer Championships for Chevrolet and Corvette Racing since 2001

  • 34: Number of drivers for Corvette Racing since 1999. Ben Keating and Nico Varrone joined that list with their participation – and victory – in the 1,000 Miles of Sebring for the World Endurance Championship.
  • 125: Victories worldwide for Corvette Racing – 113 in North America, nine at Le Mans – including two weeks ago – and three in the FIA WEC.
  • 275: Event starts by Corvette Racing since 1999.
  • 11,080.25: Number of racing miles completed by Corvette Racing in its 20 previous trips to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. That represents 4,506 laps.
  • 358,144.93: Total number of racing miles completed by Corvette Racing since its inception. To put that in perspective, Corvette Racing is more than halfway to the distance traveled by Apollo 13 – the longest manned spaceflight in history: 622,268 miles. That means Corvette Racing has raced to the moon… and then some!

Learn About WNBA Picks Angles And Its Techniques

Despite the league’s increasing popularity, there aren’t many people picking on the WNBA. The oddsmakers are less interested in minor markets, which gives bettors excellent opportunities to place wagers. Want to develop your WNBA predictions plan? Making a profit has no one magic formula, but starting with these three-pointers will assist.

No need to wager against the general populace

In sports betting, betting against the public is a typical tactic. According to the hypothesis, the more the sportsbook manipulates the line, the more bettors will favor one result over the other. It can create value in betting against the public perception. You can outsmart other bettors by analyzing historical data and placing wagers at better odds when the public is strongly in favor of one side.

However, betting against the public technique only works when there is a substantial volume of wagers. Consider it this way: More players typically equates to more squares.

Find the value of underdogs

Big underdogs have often been underrated in the WNBA and outperform the spread admirably, particularly when playing on the road.  It presents an opportunity to buy low. Furthermore, oddsmakers don’t expect a club with a poor record to play well in subsequent games if they just had a win. Such instances could be another best opportunity to take the underdog.

Know when to bet the under

Because most sports fans like high-scoring contests, the public favors betting on the over. Betting the under is usually a wise move, but this is especially true if both teams hit the over in their games. Pick platforms exaggerate the line when groups examine by preying on the public recency bias. However, historically, very few WNBA predictions teams have consistently hit the over for protracted periods. For instance, in their last ten games to win the 2020 WNBA Championships, the Seattle Storm went over the amount seven times. This remarkable run serves as a reminder of the significance of doing your homework before parting with your hard-earned money.

Techniques

Picks on the WNBA can be both thrilling and lucrative. With the appropriate WNBA predictions and information, your chances of striking it rich can increase. Using the techniques in this book, you may increase your wins when you wager on the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA).

Know your risk tolerance

Knowing that certain players will bear greater danger than others is infused with the aforementioned premise. This season, Brittney Griner is the most prominent example since her future depends on a situation that is beyond her control. Breanna Stewart’s recovery from her second Achilles injury would be another illustration towards the top of the list.

When healthy, she is one of the top fantasy players in terms of points per game, but it is yet unclear whether the injury will have long-term repercussions. In shallower leagues, where you would take a heavier blow while Griner is absent, replacement-level bench players will score better. It can be worthwhile to draught Griner early.

Pay attention to injury history

Somewhat related to the point above, players miss games in the WNBA for numerous reasons, so it gets helpful to know which players have a history of injuries. It is important to consider that athletes who have missed the most time due to injury frequently have a higher risk of reinjuring those regions than players who have kept reasonably fit.

The exciting world of WNBA picks

With the help of these experienced picks, gamblers may take advantage of WNBA picks possibilities, perhaps earning money while taking pleasure in the thrilling world of professional women’s basketball. The WNBA predictions market is a rich one with lots of options for the savvy bettor. With the right information, tools, and well-thought-out strategy, you can increase the profitability and fun of your betting.

Burton, DEX Imaging Team Prepping for a Superspeedway Race at Atlanta

Harrison Burton and the No. 21 DEX Imaging team are setting up for a superspeedway-style race this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The venerable intermediate-length track races like Daytona and Talladega since a 2021 reconfiguration that raised the banking in the turns and narrowed the straightaways.

That change to the track, one of the cornerstone speedways on the circuit having hosted its first race in 1960, has produced some results that have crew chief Brian Wilson hopeful for a strong weekend for his No. 21 team.

“The last time we visited Atlanta, it was a very successful weekend for Ford Performance,” Wilson said. “Eight of the top 10 qualifiers were in Fords, including the pole sitter, and our manufacturer was able to get the win as well.”

To tune the DEX Imaging Mustang for Sunday night’s Quaker State 400, Wilson is using data gathered at the two bigger superspeedways, Daytona and Talladega, as well as from the race at AMS back in March.

“As we prepare to head south this weekend, we’re studying all of our notes from superspeedway-style races from this year,” he said. “Often these races have been highlights for us, as we’ve led and raced up front often at Daytona and Talladega.

“Between Ford’s success at Atlanta and our super-speedway notebook, we have reason for optimism in our preparations.”

(Burton led nine laps at Daytona and 11 at Talladega this year.)

Wilson said the choice of tire compounds by Goodyear, the exclusive supplier for the Cup Series, is always a factor as is the weather at the track.

“The tire combination that Goodyear is bringing is the same as the first race in March,” he said “The main difference will be the hot July temperatures.

“This tire has proven to be durable enough to allow for two-tire and fuel-only calls. The question is will the hotter temps make the handling gain of four tires pay off in the long run.”

Those answers won’t come until Sunday night. There will be no practice for the Quaker State 400, as is the procedure for superspeedway races, and qualifying is set for Saturday at 5:45 p.m. Eastern Time.

Sunday’s 260-lap, 400-mile race is scheduled to get the green flag just after 7 p.m., with TV coverage on USA Network. Stage breaks are planned for Laps 60 and 160.
