‘100 Days to Indy’ Coming to The CW Network in Spring 2023

Penske Entertainment, NTT INDYCAR SERIES Partner with VICE Media Group for New Documentary Series

INDIANAPOLIS (Thursday, Dec. 8, 2022) – Penske Entertainment and The CW Network announced Dec. 8 they are joining forces with VICE Media Group for “100 Days to Indy,” a first-of-its-kind broadcast series about the road to the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge, the world’s premier motorsports competition.

Produced by Penske Entertainment and VICE Media Group, the six-part series will take fans behind the scenes to chronicle the bold and brash personalities of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES as they begin the 2023 season and start their epic quest for racing’s greatest prize. “100 Days to Indy” will air on The CW Network in spring 2023.

The 100-day window is benchmarked by drama, intrigue and fierce competition from the very first race of the season all the way to the checkered flag at the Indianapolis 500. For the winner, it is a life-changing experience, etching his or her name into the history books. This year, four-time Indy 500 winner and former “Dancing with the Stars” champion Helio Castroneves is eyeing a record fifth win but will face stiff competition from a rising generation of young talent all eyeing “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” and its multimillion-dollar purse.

“100 Days to Indy” will showcase what it takes to compete at the highest levels and at the height of danger, while providing a window into the on- and off-track lives of some of the sport’s most engaging drivers.

Jimco Racing Completes Strong 2022 SCORE Season With Baja 1000 Win, Class 1 Championship

The Jimco Racing Hammerhead Class 1 buggy remains one of the most dominant machines of its type in desert racing, and the 2022 SCORE World Desert Championship was no exception. Jimco racers scored three wins and eight podiums in the grueling four-race championship, with Kyle Quinn’s victory in the season-ending 55th SCORE Baja 1000 giving him, Wilson Motorsports, and Jimco the class title.

Quinn, who split driving duties with Greg DeStefano, Ronny Wilson, and Sammy Ehrenburg, wound up this year’s Class 1 champion by 11 points. The #138 machine completed the 828.25-mile loop race in 20:09:57, nearly an hour faster than its closest competition. It was the second win of the year for the team, joining the season-opening San Felipe 250 in April. The team finished on the podium in all four events, one of just a handful of SCORE teams to accomplish the feat.

“We’re glad to be here at the finish,” Quinn told SCORE after crossing the finish line. “No flats. We tore the lower passenger arm off and had to stop and we put it all back together. I can’t thank our crew enough and all our sponsors. We’re looking forward to next year.”

Joining the #138 team on the podium in the Baja 1000 were the #113 squad of Mike and Jacob Frye, whose only start of the season ended with a third-place result. Their podium meant that two Jimco Hammerheads were on the podium in all four SCORE events this year, with both Wilson Motorsports entries accomplishing the feat in San Felipe and the father-son duo of Brian and Cody Parkhouse finishing second in the Baja 500 and first in the Baja 400.

“I’ve raced a lot, like over a hundred races, (but) I’ve never seen anything like this,” Frye said after making it back to Ensenada. “I lost power steering before race mile 200, but luckily the BFGoodrich pits helped us fix it and get going again. My son Jake got in around race mile 200 and he did his section perfect, but he almost couldn’t get out of the car, he was so beat up. Then I got back in and tried to catch a VCP and ended up getting stuck down there. After a few hours I finally MacGyvered it out. Then I handed it back to Jake and he finished the last 150 miles or so with no problems.”

Joining the Class 1 dominance was Ryan Lewis’ #287 Lewis Energy Group Trophy Truck Spec entry, which finished 10th in class with a time of 22:01:22. The 55th SCORE Baja 1000 also marked the highly anticipated debut for Jimco’s all-new Dragon AWD Trophy Truck, run by Jimco owner Robbie Pierce and Los Angeles Dodgers owner Bobby Patton as part of the Fastball Racing Team.

The 2023 SCORE World Desert Championship kicks off on March 29-April 2 with the 36th running of the SCORE San Felipe 250.

Ryan Truex returns to Joe Gibbs Racing for part-time Xfinity campaign in 2023

Ryan Truex will be rejoining Joe Gibbs Racing on a part-time NASCAR Xfinity Series basis as he will be piloting the No. 19 Toyota Supra in six events for the upcoming season.

The 30-year-old Truex from Mayetta, New Jersey, is coming off a part-time campaign in the Xfinity circuit between JGR and Sam Hunt Racing. Piloting the No. 18 Toyota in five of his six scheduled events, he recorded three top-10 results and notched a season-best third-place run at Atlanta Motor Speedway in July. Previously, Truex competed on a full-time basis in the Craftsman Truck Series with Niece Motorsports, where he recorded three top-10 results, an average-finishing result of 19.5 and finished 16th in the final standings.

The 2023 season will mark Truex’s eighth season with at least one start in the Xfinity circuit. It will also mark his fourth part-time campaign with JGR that includes runs with the organization in 2011, 2012 and 2022.

Through 84 previous starts in the Xfinity Series, Truex has achieved one pole, five top-five results, 27 top-10 results and an average-finishing result of 16.1. His best result in the series is a runner-up result, which occurred at Dover Motor Speedway in June 2012. He has also made a total of 73 starts in the Truck Series and 26 in the NASCAR Cup Series to date.

“I am thrilled to be behind the wheel of the No. 19 for a few races next season,” Truex said. “It was fun to run well with the team this past year. I appreciate the opportunity to race for JGR again next year. I think we can build from what we learned this year and get some solid runs in.”

Veteran Jason Ratcliff will be serving as the crew chief of the No. 19 Toyota team that will be serving as JGR’s “all-star” entry for the upcoming Xfinity season. The No. 19 Toyota will compete alongside the Nos. 18 and 20, both of which will compete for the driver’s championship and piloted by Sammy Smith and John Hunter Nemechek, respectively.

“We are looking forward to having Ryan back in our lineup in 2023 to run the No. 19,” Steve DeSouza, Executive Vice President of Xfinity Series/Development, added. “He has done well in the races he has run at JGR. His previous experience and driving ability will be assets as the No. 19 competes for an owner’s championship next year.”

Truex’s 2023 schedule along with additional drivers for JGR’s “all-star” entry will be announced at a later date.

John Hunter Nemechek inks full-time Xfinity Series ride with Joe Gibbs Racing for 2023 season

John Hunter Nemechek will be returning to the NASCAR Xfinity Series on a full-time basis and pilot the No. 20 Toyota Supra for Joe Gibbs Racing in his quest for the series championship.

The news comes as the 25-year-old Nemechek from Mooresville, North Carolina, is coming off two full-time seasons in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series with Kyle Busch Motorsports, where he scored seven victories, qualified for the Playoffs during both seasons and achieved the 2021 Truck Series regular-season championship. In addition to his Truck schedule, he competed in a total of 16 Xfinity events between Joe Gibbs Racing and Sam Hunt Racing. During his part-time campaign in the Xfinity circuit, Nemechek won at Texas Motor Speedway with JGR in October 2021. He also piloted the team’s No. 18 Toyota Supra in three events this past season and achieved his best run at Richmond Raceway in April after finishing second.

The 2023 season will mark Nemechek’s first full-time campaign in the Xfinity circuit since 2019, where he recorded six top-five results and 19 top-10 results as he qualified for the 2019 Xfinity Playoffs and finished in seventh place in the final standings while competing for GMS Racing.

Through 67 previous starts in the Xfinity Series, Nemechek has achieved two victories, one pole, 17 top-five results, 37 top-10 results and an average-finishing result of 12.6.

“I’m appreciative of the opportunity to get back to competing full time in the Xfinity Series,” Nemechek said. “JGR is a group that I know I can win with after getting that win at Texas in 2021. I’m excited to get to work on the 2023 season so we can go out and win some races and compete for a championship.”

Mobil 1 will be serving as Nemechek’s primary sponsor with additional sponsorship support coming from Berry’s Bullets, Pye Barker Fire and Safety, Romco Equipment and his Grocery Store Brands throughout the season. Ben Beshore, who spent the previous two seasons in the Cup Series as a crew chief for Kyle Busch, will be returning to the Xfinity Series for the first time since 2020 to serve as Nemechek’s crew chief.

The addition of Nemechek to Joe Gibbs Racing means that he will be serving as one of the team’s two full-time competitors for the 2023 Xfinity season. Sammy Smith was announced as the full-time driver of the No. 18 Toyota two days ago.

“John Hunter has shown the dedication it takes to be a successful racecar driver,” Steve DeSouza, Executive Vice President, Xfinity Series and Driver Development, added. “He has experience at all levels of NASCAR that will be valuable to the team in 2023. With his plans for the upcoming season set, Nemechek’s quest for the 2023 Xfinity Series championship with Joe Gibbs Racing will commence at Daytona International Speedway on February 18. The event is slated to commence at 5 p.m. ET on FS1.

Carson Hocevar and WWEX Racing to Partner for Full Season in 2023

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Dec. 8, 2022) – Carson Hocevar will return to Niece Motorsports in 2023, piloting the No. 42 WWEX Racing Chevrolet Silverado for his third full-time season in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS).

Hocevar, who has made the NCTS playoffs the past two seasons, will race with full-season support from the WWEX Racing program, which comprises Worldwide Express, Unishippers and GlobalTranz.

After a strong rookie campaign in 2021, Hocevar continued to turn heads in his sophomore season. In 23 races, Hocevar tallied seven top-five and 12 top-10 finishes. In addition, the Michigan native earned two stage wins and led 282 laps. Hocevar put the Series on notice in June, earning the pole at Sonoma Raceway, a mere seven days after sustaining a broken ankle at World Wide Technology Raceway.

Hocevar’s abilities are not relegated to one type of track. The 19-year-old driver found the front of the field on dirt tracks, road courses, intermediate tracks, and short tracks.

While competitors have taken notice of Hocevar’s talent on the track, fans have taken notice of his fun and light-hearted personality off the track. Before climbing aboard his No. 42 Chevrolet on race weekends, Hocevar can often be spotted wearing unique hats.

Cadillac Racing prepares for new prototype era

Cadillac V-LMDh logs miles at racetrack hosting IMSA’s first race of GTP class

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Dec. 8, 2022) — The 2023 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season-opening event is in January, but perceptively deceiving because it’s only six weeks away.

The swiftly approaching Roar Before the Rolex 24 on Jan. 20-22 – prologue to the 61st Rolex 24 At Daytona — will mark the competition debut of the three Cadillac V-LMDh entries in the new Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

During a Dec. 6-7 IMSA-sanctioned test at Daytona International Speedway, excitement for the dawn of a new era of prototype racing intermixed with a business-as-usual approach as Cadillac Racing, technical partners and team personnel continued to work through on-track development objectives and periodically addressed acute issues inherent in the technical complexities of the new hybrid race car.

All three Cadillac V-LMDh race cars turned laps at the same test for the first time during six day/night sessions totaling 18 hours on the 3.56-mile, 12-turn road course.

“We’ll be racing a 24-hour race in a few short weeks, and I’d say we’ll never feel 100 percent ready but we’re ready to tackle the race and we race to win,” GM sports car racing program manager Laura Wontrop Klauser said. “Development of the Cadillac V-LMDh has been an intense process, but an extremely rewarding one.”

The Cadillac V-LMDh has logged more than 20,000 kilometers (more than 12,500 miles) since on-track development began in early July at U.S. racetracks on the 2023 IMSA schedule.

The Roar Before the Rolex 24 includes a new qualifying format for the GTP class that incorporates 20 minutes of on-track time.

“It’s coming around really fast, and I think as a crew we’re ready to perform,” said Alex Lynn, who will co-drive the No. 02 Cadillac V-LMDh prepared by Chip Ganassi Racing with Earl Bamber and Richard Westbrook in the Rolex 24 At Daytona and the seven-race FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) season. “It’s the biggest race of the American calendar, so from that side all three of us have experience and we know what it takes to get it done. We need to stay calm with a brand-new car and make sure we arrive on race day with the best possible chance.”

Added Renger van der Zande, co-driver of the sister No. 01 Cadillac V-LMDh with Sebastien Bourdais and endurance driver Scott Dixon: “Because it’s all so new for everyone, you need these kinds of tests to find out what the car needs. It’s about understanding why things break and that’s why were here — we’re testing exactly to do that. It’s very tight to the Roar and the 24 hours, so this is the time to get the reliability you need and get speed out of the car.”

Jack Aitken, who will co-drive the No. 31 Action Express Racing-prepared Cadillac V-LMDh in the four endurance races on the IMSA calendar with full-season drivers Pipo Derani and Alexander Sims, enjoyed his maiden outing.

“First time in the car and first time around the track,” the Williams F1 reserve driver said. “Both were pretty impressive. I got into the swing of it and was having a blast by the end of the time. It’s got a lot of power and you can feel the downforce working. The mechanical grip is pretty forgiving as well, so you can really attack the corners and you never worry if the car is going to bite you too hard. I can imagine with 60 cars going around it will be a little more tricky, but I’ll get more and more confident as I go.”

Cadillac will aim to tie Ferrari for third place with five overall Rolex 24 At Daytona victories – all since 2017.

Legendary NASCAR Race Team Introduces revamped stylized No. 8 and Announces Key Partners Heading into 2023 Season: MERCH AVAILABLE NOW!

WELCOME, N.C. (December 8, 2022) – French writer Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr famously wrote “plus ca change, plus c’est la même chose”. Roughly translated to “The more things change, the more they stay the same”, the Frenchman’s words in 1849 have a lot of merit for Richard Childress Racing and Kyle Busch heading into their inaugural season together in 2023.

RCR introduced today the stylized No. 8 that will adorn the two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion’s Chevrolets in 2023. The revamped stylized No. 8 was personally designed by Busch and his team with input from Richard Childress and RCR.

Fans can prepare for the 2023 season by gearing up with newly-released merchandise, which is available now at https://store.rcrracing.com/ and kylebusch.com.

The revised number honors the past while embracing the future and the new era that Busch’s presence brings to the 54-year-old organization, essentially merging one of the NASCAR industry’s most storied teams with one of the sports’ most successful modern era drivers.

Although the driver and number will look much different beginning in 2023, much of RCR’s No. 8 program will look very much the same in true “the more things change, the more they stay the same” form. Key members of the team, including crew chief Randall Burnett and spotter Derek Kneeland, return to their roles with the organization. What’s more, the team’s sponsor lineup will be very similar to what RCR fans have recognized on track in years’ past.

Familiar brands such as Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen, 3CHI, Alsco, Lenovo and BetMGM will return to the No. 8 team in 2023, comprising a multi-sponsor lineup of corporate partners who will continue to build on the business successes they have captured in prior seasons with RCR.

BRODY ROA COMPLETED HIS 2022 SEASON AT THE TURKEY NIGHT GRAND PRIX

(Cypress, CA, December 7, 2022) Nearly eleven months after it started, Brody Roa finished his 2022 racing season in the 81st annual Turkey Night Grand Prix at Jim Naylor’s Ventura Raceway. Contesting the USAC West Coast Sprint Car Series portion of the program in Jayson May’s pretty #8M sprint car, the Garden Grove, California driver ended up finishing 17th in the 30-lap main event due to some late-race bad luck.

The two-night program featured heat races, qualifiers, and a dash for the sprint cars on Friday night. An outstanding field of 49 entries showed up for the event. Drivers did not qualify but rather drew for positions in the Friday night heat races. Roa pulled a number that placed him in the second heat race on the famous 1/5-of-a-mile clay oval.

The 31-year-old started in the fourth position in his heat race. By the end of the opening go around he was second and was applying immediate heat to the leader. The veteran racer kept the pressure up all the way to the Kris Kornder checkered flag but he had to settle for second. The finish placed him on the outside of row number one for his 12-lap qualifier. From there, he steered the #8M into the lead and proceeded to stay out front every inch of the way. Two races down and everything was working to perfection. However, that was about to change.

With the heat and qualifiers out of the way, there was only one thing left for Roa on the night. That was the 15-lap dash for the top 10 drivers in points after the heat races and the qualifiers. The way they finished the dash would be the way they started the main event straight up. Roa was on the outside of the second row in fourth for the start. He stayed in that position over the first two circuits before slipping back to fifth on lap three.

On lap nine Roa moved back to the 4th place spot. That pass moved him up a full row in Saturday’s main if he could stay there. Everything went smoothly until lap 12. Entering turn three, the second-place car clipped one of the huge tires protecting the end of the crashwall at the pit entrance. That caused the car to spin and it also kicked the tire onto the track. The third-place driver, Roa’s teammate Chase Johnson, hit the tire and turned over. Roa, who was close behind, had nowhere to go and slid into the mess. For good measure, another car sailed into Roa and the red flag came out.

For all intents and purposes, it looked like Roa was done for the night. In fact, he climbed out of his car and took off his helmet. But after a closer look, he realized his car was not damaged as much as he thought. The veteran racer pushed his helmet back on, climbed back in the car, and bumped off for the restart. By that time there were only seven cars left in the race. That meant Roa had to restart at the back in seventh. In the remaining laps, he passed one car to finish sixth and start one spot closer to the front in Saturday’s championship main event.

Saturday night Roa and his fellow competitors were greeted by a near-capacity crowd at one of America’s most popular dirt tracks. In addition to the packed house, the race was also seen by thousands more around the world on Flo Racing. Being that he finished sixth in points the previous night, Roa did not have to race in any of the preliminaries. He was seeded right into the 30-lap finale and would start on the outside of the third row in May’s gorgeous #8M.

At the drop of the Chris Kornder green flag, Roa immediately went on the attack. However, the green flag was short-lived as the caution came out on the second circuit. For the restart, Roa was in fifth and he dogged the fourth-place car for the first 1/3 of the race. By lap 20, he had slipped back to seventh. As the race reached the waning laps, he was still in seventh, but with an engine issue and an overzealous driver clobbering him from behind, Roa was knocked from the action with two laps to go. He ended up 17th.

The Ventura result was not the way “The Pride of Garden Grove” wanted to conclude the season but he did have a very good year. He had 15 top-10 finishes and 11 of those were in the top five. Despite not running the full USAC/CRA schedule, Roa’s total of three wins was second-best on the circuit and he finished sixth in points. Highlights of the year included his win at Mohave Valley after he started 11th in the main event. At Santa Maria, he drove to the win in the 410 race in May’s 360 powered rocketship. He also had a win in May’s car in a USAC West Coast Series race at Ventura.

In addition to his non-wing endeavors, Roa, also qualified for his first-ever World of Outlaws main event at Perris on March 26th. It was only his second-ever race in the legendary series. The first came 24 hours earlier at Bakersfield.

While the 2022 season just ended, 2023 will kick off in just five weeks in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the Chili Bowl. The sprint car season will kick off two weeks after that at the Cocopah Speedway in Arizona. In between now and Cocopah, the team will be working on cars, ordering parts, and exploring marketing opportunities with potential partners.
