Notes of Interest

● The NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series is in the midst of its Western Swing. It kicked off last weekend with the Dodge Power Brokers Mile-High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, Colorado, and continues this weekend with DENSO NHRA Sonoma Nationals at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway before culminating with the Flav-R-Pac NHRA Northwest Nationals July 29-31 at Pacific Raceways in Kent, Washington.

● Tony Stewart Racing (TSR) and its two-car lineup – one in Top Fuel for 10-time event winner Leah Pruett and one in Funny Car for three-time Funny Car champion Matt Hagan – comes into Sonoma after a strong weekend at Bandimere. Pruett advanced all the way to the finals and won her second Mile-High Nationals event and Hagan secured the No. 1 qualifying position for the fourth time this season.

● Pruett and Hagan enter Sonoma representing the Rayce Rudeen Foundation and DieHard, respectively.

● The Rayce Rudeen Foundation is a non-profit organization that works with organizations and programs to encourage a healthy and productive life that is free of addiction. The designated 501(c)(3) is named in honor of Rayce Rudeen, who at age 26 passed away from an accidental Fentanyl overdose. Since its inception, the Rayce Rudeen Foundation has advocated for creating a supportive community in which everyone can access prevention, treatment, recovery and family-support services, all free from stigma. By collaborating with local universities, researchers, organizations, businesses and community coalitions, the Rayce Rudeen Foundation is leading communities toward a united and compassionate response to addiction by identifying gaps in care and building educational tools.

● For more than 50 years, DieHard has been one of the automotive industry’s most recognizable brands. As America’s most trusted auto battery, DieHard Batteries are renowned for reliability, durability and starting power in the most extreme weather climates. DieHard is sold at Advance and participating Carquest Auto Parts locations nationwide.

● The DENSO NHRA Sonoma Nationals will serve as Pruett’s 183rd career Top Fuel start and her sixth at Sonoma. For Hagan, this will be his 305th career Funny Car start and his 13th at Sonoma.

● Pruett is eyeing her first victory in the DENSO NHRA Sonoma Nationals. She advanced to the final round last year, where her 3.768 ET at 23.04 mph run was narrowly defeated by Steve Torrence’s 3.757 ET at 327.98 mph run. Pruett has one No. 1 qualifier at the event, which came in 2017 (3.669 ET at 328.38 mph) and set a new track record for the 1,000-foot long dragstrip.

● Hagan is also seeking his first victory in the DENSO NHRA Sonoma Nationals. He has advanced to the finals three times – 2012 (5.462 ET at 146.67 mph, lost to Johnny Gray: 4.142 ET at 305.15 mph), 2019 (4.030 ET at 316.60 mph, lost to Robert Hight: 3.973 ET at 325.45 mph) and 2021 (3.991 ET at 324.44 mph, lost to Hight: 3.871 ET at 322.50 mph). Hagan has two No. 1 qualifiers at the event, which came in 2009 (4.068 ET at 307.51 mph) and 2013 (3.986 ET at 320.51 mph).

● On Friday at Sonoma, Pruett will present the Juggers Annual Scholarship to Jacob Reuser, who graduated from nearby Casa Grande High School in Petaluma with a 4.5 GPA. The Juggers Annual Scholarship was formed in San Mateo, California, in 1953, by the 120 members of the Juggers Racing Team who participate primarily in drag racing, land-speed racing and autocross. Their premier program in support of organized drag racing for high school students is their annual scholarship, which awards a certificate and $1,000 in cash. Reuser, this year’s recipient, works a part-time job to pay for car parts while also volunteering at Sack’s Thrift Store, which raises money for Hospice of Petaluma. Reuser started drag racing on Wednesday nights in 2021 and is a contender for this year’s High School Class Championship. He will study mechanical engineering at the University of California at Santa Barbara.

● DYK? The dragstrip at Sonoma is located inside the track’s road course, which annually hosts the NASCAR Cup Series. While Tony Stewart Racing is looking for its first NHRA win at Sonoma, Tony Stewart the owner is already a three-time winner at the track. The NASCAR Hall of Famer won three NASCAR Cup Series races on the 1.99-mile, 10-turn road course – 2001, 2005 and 2016. His victory in 2016 was his 49th and final NASCAR Cup Series victory as Stewart retired from NASCAR racing at the conclusion of the season.

Leah Pruett, Driver of the Rayce Rudeen Foundation Top Fuel Dragster

How important was your victory in last weekend’s Dodge Power Brokers Mile-High Nationals to making consistent runs and collecting valuable points in these five remaining events of the regular season before the Countdown to the Championship begins?

“The Denver race win proved to ourselves that we are the winning team we’ve believed all along, and infuses confidence into each of our crafts. Making eight runs at Bandimere Speedway, with some extreme turnaround times on Sunday, has exposed our team’s small opportunities to improve. It took a Sunday at Bandimere to show us how we can even improve more as we continue the Western Swing.”

What adjustments do you have to make as a driver and as a team racing at sea level this weekend at Sonoma compared to the 5,800 feet of elevation you experienced last weekend at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, Colorado?

“There’s not a deep list of adjustments for a driver. Our deliverables stay the same, but my approach changes only slightly. On the mountain, the less dense air makes mid-track wheelies a thing and something to be extra prepared for. Pulling the fronts on the launch is not as frequent because our initial hit is less, due to less power, via less air. For me, that means there’s a likelihood the car will wash out with the front hiked in the air and become less drivable. Coming to sea level, the car will be at its optimum level of aggressiveness, and I will have to really emphasize the importance of not only square, but straight. Between Denver and Sonoma, the team will give our Top Fueler a complete makeover in regard to jetting changes, blower compensation, clutch adjustments, chassis weight and, of course, the new body that will promote the Rayce Rudeen Foundation and its work with organizations and programs to encourage a healthy and productive life that is free of addiction.”

Matt Hagan, Driver of the DieHard Batteries Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Funny Car

What adjustments do you have to make as a driver and as a team racing at sea level this weekend at Sonoma compared to the 5,800 feet of elevation you experienced last weekend at Bandimere Speedway?

“We’ll take everything off the car from Bandimere and put it on the shelf for next year, since the conditions are so different from Sonoma and the other tracks we visit. We’ll be running different rods, rod links and pistons at Sonoma and Seattle. At sea level, everything is crisper and quicker and easier on parts. As a racer, we get back into the groove of what we do on a normal basis. The elevation was tough on us in Denver, so I’m ready to hit the reset button at Sonoma and make more runs.”

You’ve advanced to the finals three times at Sonoma but you’re still looking your first win at the track. What would it mean to bring home a Wally from wine country?

“You want to win at every racetrack. Sonoma is one of the tracks that’s eluded me. I feel confident with the changes we’re making following Denver. I know the changes we’re making will allow the car to go back down the racetrack at a high rate of speed. We all pay attention to the championship points hunt, so we want to put this DieHard Batteries Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Funny Car in the top spot and have that cushion at the reset of the Countdown. Every qualifying point, and points during the race, make a difference.”

Parker Chase Eyes First ARCA Win at Pocono Raceway

LONG POND, Pa.: On the heels of matching his career-best ARCA Menards Series runner-up finish in the most recent ARCA race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Parker Chase heads to Pocono (Pa.) Raceway eyeing one spot better in Friday night’s General Tire Delivers 200.

In a race that daunted the competitors with both wet and dry conditions, Chase was able to combat the weather conditions to his advantage and showcase his road racing skills to deliver his best ARCA Menards Series performance since finishing second in the season-opening race at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway in February.

Still riding the momentum of Mid-Ohio, Chase returns to the oval scene on the tour determined to continue his impressive ways and deliver Venturini Motorsports another win in 2022.

“Finishing second was great, but I wanted that win at Mid-Ohio,” said Chase. “So much went into that race at Mid-Ohio. You must stay smart, be methodical and take advantage of the track conditions and we did that all the way up to second.

“I would have loved to earn that first ARCA win at Mid-Ohio, but it just makes me hungrier headed to

Pocono Raceway this weekend.”

Chase will make his 11th career start and sixth of the 2022 season and although he has never been to the 2.5-mile triangle track, he is leaning on the experience of his Venturini Motorsports team to lead him to his fourth top-10 of the year.

To adequately help prepare him for his “Tricky Triangle” debut, Chase will participate in the five-hour open test session at the three-turn race track hoping to utilize the extra time to his advantage and prepare for the 80-lap race on Friday evening.

“As a team, we plan to utilize the five hours to our advantage,” explained Chase. “It is important with the practice session being so short on Friday that we can get a good balance on our car and apply it to the on-track activity on Friday.

“Pocono may be one of the most difficult tracks I’ve ever competed on in the ARCA Menards Series, but some have said that it also portrays a bit of a road course rhythm too – so I’m hoping with the leadership of my Venturini Motorsports team and a quick race car – we can have a productive day on Thursday and carry that over to Friday.”

With only four scheduled races remaining on his Venturini Motorsports slate in 2022, Chase aims to add his name to the winning roster of drivers for the veteran team.

“Winning is everything to a race car driver and I am no different,” added Chase. “Venturini Motorsports has had the benefit of having numerous drivers hoist that Victory Lane trophy and I definitely want to be one of them before the end of the season. Pocono is the next opportunity and I plan to make the best of it.”

Despite completing in only five of the scheduled nine races, Chase sits a respectable 13th championship standings, 30 points out of 10th.

In addition to Pocono, Chase will pilot a Venturini Motorsports Toyota Camry at a variety of race tracks in 2022, including Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International, Kansas Speedway and Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway in September.

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (July 20, 2022) – Justin Allgaier’s No. 7 Chevrolet will be sporting a fresh look next weekend when the NASCAR Xfinity Series take to the road course at the hallowed Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Precision Build will be on board Allgaier’s Camaro in a co-branded effort with cornerstone partner BRANDT Professional Agriculture for the NXS event on July 30.

Headquartered in Tampa, Fla., Precision Build is an integrative effort between companies Tampa Tank, Florida Structural Steel and Precision Tank. The combined company provides storage, structural steel and service solutions for both domestic and international markets.

“It is great to welcome back Precision Build to our No. 7 Chevrolet in Indy,” said Allgaier. “To see them return in this co-branded effort with BRANDT Professional Agriculture is really special, especially at a place as historic as Indianapolis. Hopefully we can keep the car clean all race long and be in contention for the win in the end.”

Allgaier, who currently sits second in the NXS Playoff Grid on the strength of his third win of the year this past weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, has made two starts on the road course at Indianapolis, with a best finish of seventh coming in 2020. The Illinois native is a former winner at the facility, going to Victory Lane on the oval in 2018.

In addition to the new look of Allgaier’s No. 7 Chevrolet in Indianapolis, BRANDT Professional Agriculture will also again be featured on board the No. 88 Camaro of Nova Prata, Brazil native Miguel Paludo for the third time this season.

John Hunter Nemechek – No. 4 Yahoo! Tundra TRD Pro Camping World Trucks Pocono Preview

John Hunter Nemechek: Driver, No. 4 Yahoo! Toyota

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Overview:
Event: CRC Brakleen 150, Race 16 of 23, 60 Laps – 15/15/30; 150 Miles
Location: Pocono (Pa.) Raceway (2.5-mile tri-oval)
Date/Broadcast: July 23, 2022, at noon ET on FS1, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR 90

Neme’chek’ the Facts:

John Hunter Nemechek and the No. 4 Yahoo! team roll into the regular season finale at Pocon0 (Pa.) Raceway in a tie for second place in the Camping World Truck Series regular season standings, 58 points behind points leader Zane Smith. With a win at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway earlier in the season, Nemechek has already locked himself into the Truck Series playoffs for the fourth time in his career.

Global media and tech company, Yahoo!, will adorn the hood of the No. 4 Tundra TRD Pro this Saturday at Pocono. Yahoo! has made one start earlier this season with KBM when owner-driver Kyle Busch drove the No. 51 to victory at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway in June. Yahoo! will return as the primary sponsor with the No. 4 team next weekend at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park.

Nemechek will be piloting the same Tundra TRD Pro (KBM-56) on Saturday that he drove to victory in last year’s race at the ‘Tricky Triangle’, while leading 12 laps and picking up a Stage Two win. In four starts at Pocono in Camping World Truck Series action, the second-generation driver has recorded one win (2021), 21 laps led, two top-five and three top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 6.8. In two NASCAR Xfinity Series starts he produced an average finish of 9.5 and in two Cup Series starts he recorded an average finish of 21.5.

Entering the regular season finale, the second-generation driver leads all Truck Series regulars in poles (four) and average starting position (6.7). He is also second in average running position (9.610) and driver rating (101.8), and third in laps led (171).

Nemechek is a 12-time winner in Camping World Truck Series action, winning at least one race each season from 2015 to 2018 for his family-owned team, NEMCO Motorsports, and returning to victory lane in 2021 and 2022 with KBM. Across 139 career starts in NASCAR’s third division, he has compiled six poles, 1,369 laps led, 46 top-five and 76 top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 12.5.

Eric Phillips returned to lead the No. 4 team in 2022. His 42 career Truck Series victories make him the winningest crew chief in Truck Series history, with 33 of those coming while at KBM including five last year. Phillips led the No. 18 team at KBM in its debut season in 2010 and helped build the organization into one of the premier teams in all of NASCAR before departing at the end of the 2014 season. Under his guidance, the No. 18 team won eight races in its inaugural campaign and became the Series history to capture an owner’s championship in its first season of competition. In 2014, the Illinois native led the first team in Truck No. 51 team to an owner’s championship and his team’s 10 wins spearheaded KBM to a single-season Truck Series record of 14 wins. Phillips has been atop the box for five Camping World Truck Series starts at Pocono. In those five starts, his drivers have recorded one win (Nemechek – 2021), 29 laps led, four top-five and five top-10 finishes with an average finish of 3.2.

John Hunter Nemechek, Driver Q&A:
John Hunter Nemechek | Pocono Raceway Preview
What’s the trickiest part of the “Tricky Triangle?”
“Making your truck go around all three corners very well. Turn 1 is different from Turn 2, the ‘Tunnel Turn’ is completely different from Turn 3 and Turn 3 is different than Turn 1. So, three completely different types of corners. It’s something that you have to figure out how to drive through, how to set your truck up for it, and to have the best finish that you possibly can to each corner because the straightaways are so long. It’s all about getting through the corner and getting on the straightaway.”

You are tied for second in the regular season standings heading into Saturday. Do you race for stage points in an effort to finish second in the points or do you go for a strategy to race for the win?
“I think it depends on the day and situation with how fast we are. I think you’ll see a lot of guys jump the stages and pit before the stage breaks to be in a better spot to win the race. Last year, we played the stages and actually ran until the end of each stage and did not pit before the break and still ended up winning the race with a really fast truck so hopefully we can do the same this year.”

How important is it to have a strong run on Saturday and have momentum heading into the start of the playoffs?
“I do think it is important having momentum going into the playoffs, whether it’s a win this weekend or a really strong run. We need to get out of the mechanical failures and DNF’s (did not finish) that we’ve had this year. We’ve had way too many but we’re still up there in points and we still have speed, we just need to get a little bit better. So, hopefully getting some momentum this weekend at Pocono can transfer into IRP next weekend and kickoff the playoffs on a really strong note.”

John Hunter Nemechek Career Highlights:

  • Twelve-time winner in Camping World Truck Series action, winning at least one race each season from 2015 to 2018 for his family-owned team, NEMCO Motorsports. Across 139 career starts in NASCAR’s third division, has compiled six poles, 1,369 laps led, 46 top-five and 76 top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 12.5. Registered a career-high and series-leading five victories in 2021, earned the NCWTS Regular Season championship and finished third in the final standings after qualifying for the Championship Four for the first time in his career.
  • Produced three top-10 finishes and an average result of 22.4 while competing for rookie of the year honors in the NASCAR Cup Series in 2020. He recorded a career-best eighth-place finish twice, both coming at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway.
  • Across 62 career XFINITY Series starts, has totaled two wins, one pole, 510 laps led, 17 top-five and 36 top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 11.9.
  • John Hunter Nemechek’s No. 4 Yahoo! Tundra TRD Pro:
  • KBM-56: The No. 4 Yahoo! team will unload KBM-56 for Saturday’s race at Pocono. Nemechek has raced this Tundra twice so far this season, earning the pole at both Las Vegas (March) and Texas (May) and finishing in 25th and sixth, respectively. In 2021, Nemechek led 12 laps and picked up his fifth win of the season while piloting KBM-56 at Pocono. Overall, KBM-56 has tallied one win, 91 laps led, two top-five and six top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 13.5 across 13 starts.

KBM-56 Performance Profile

KBM Notes of Interest:

  • Across 38 starts on road courses, KBM drivers have earned two wins, 15 top-five and 18 top-10 finishes, with an average starting position of 9.3 and an average finish of 11.7.
  • Owner-driver Kyle Busch earned his organization’s most recent road course win in June at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway. Erik Jones picked up KBM’s first road course victory in 2015 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, Ont.
  • KBM holds the Camping World Truck Series records for most career wins (95) and most wins in a single season (14 in 2014). With his victory at Atlanta Motor Speedway on March 19, Corey Heim became the 18th different driver to win a Truck Series event for KBM. In addition to collecting a series-record seven Owner’s Championships, the organization has produced two championship-winning drivers: Erik Jones (2015) and Christopher Bell (2017).
  • The No. 4 has 17 career victories at KBM and was the number for both of the organization’s driver championships.

NAPA extends sponsorship of Hendrick Motorsports and driver Chase Elliott

LAS VEGAS (July 20, 2022) – NAPA has reached a multi-year contract extension with Hendrick Motorsports that will continue its 26-race majority sponsorship of 2020 NASCAR Cup Series champion and current points leader Chase Elliott.

The renewal was announced today in Las Vegas during the general session of the 2022 NAPA EXPO, which attracts more than 13,000 vendors, employees, store owners and NAPA AutoCare Center professionals. To share the news, Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick and team vice chairman Jeff Gordon joined Marti Walsh, NAPA vice president of marketing, on stage at the Venetian Convention and Expo Center.

“We could not be more excited to extend our relationship with Hendrick Motorsports and Chase Elliott, especially in a year when we are reigniting our brand to meet the demands of the future,” Walsh said. “Hendrick Motorsports and Chase have long been part of the NAPA family and their passion and energy will be an important part of our journey in the years ahead.”

NAPA became Elliott’s primary sponsor in 2014. The driver of the No. 9 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 has since earned two NASCAR national series championships: the Xfinity Series in 2014 and the Cup Series in 2020. Following his full-time move to the elite Cup level in 2016, the 26-year-old star has won 16 points-paying races, most recently at Atlanta Motor Speedway on July 10.

“None of this is possible without NAPA,” Elliott said. “I’m so thankful for their commitment to our team and their passion for what we do every weekend. I’ve been lucky to meet a lot of great folks from across the country who work for NAPA. All of us are really proud to represent a company that takes care of its employees and its customers and is driven to be successful in every aspect. I’m looking forward to what’s to come and celebrating more wins together.”

After 20 starts in 2022, Elliott sits atop the Cup standings with a series-best three points-paying race wins. The Dawsonville, Georgia, native has clinched his seventh playoff appearance in as many full seasons at NASCAR’s top level, all with crew chief Alan Gustafson. Fans have voted him NASCAR’s most popular driver for four consecutive years (2018-2021).

“We take immense pride in our association with NAPA,” Hendrick said. “When you have a partner that has been so committed to our sport for so many years, it’s incredibly rewarding to see them win races, win championships and experience great success in their business. Chase, Alan and our entire organization are focused on raising the bar and delivering more victories for NAPA in all areas of our relationship.”

EVENT PREVIEW: Wright Motorsports Resumes GT World Challenge Championship Fight at Watkins Glen

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (July 20, 2022) – The championship fight for the Fanatec GT World Challenge America Powered by AWS title resumes this weekend at Watkins Glen International and Porsche customer racing team Wright Motorsports is ready to return to Upstate New York for the showdown.

“We’re looking forward to being back in New York for another chance at the top step,” said Team Owner John Wright. “Between our various programs and testing, we’ve spent a good deal of time here and know this place well. It can be a strong track for us, and we hope to make some gains in the championship points this weekend.”

The team’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship effort competed at the 3.45-mile road course just last month, also racing a Porsche 911 GT3 R. This weekend, drivers Charlie Luck and Jan Heylen will contest in their own championship endeavors in the Wright Motorsports No. 45 Porsche 911 GT3 R, which currently sits second in the Pro/Am category of the championship point standings.

Luck and Heylen started the 2022 season off with a pair of wins but have yet to return to the top step as the series nears the halfway point in the season. They returned to the podium in race one at VIRginia International Raceway, celebrating a second-place finish in front of Luck’s home crowd. The father and son-in-law closed out their most recent race weekend with a fourth-place finish, still acquiring valuable points for the championship.

In 2021, though they ran in separate series at the time, both Luck and Heylen had strong races at Watkins Glen International during the SRO America-sanctioned weekend. Heylen, with co-driver Fred Poordad celebrated a second-place finish in the GT World Challenge doubleheader, while Luck earned first and second-place results during his race weekend.

The Wright Motorsports Porsches have proven to be strong competitors at the flowing circuit, and this year will be no different. Luck and Heylen will contest in both 90-minute races, splitting the drive time for each of the two events. Race one will begin on Saturday, July 23 at 2:15 PM Eastern, and the weekend will conclude with Race two beginning on Sunday, July 24 at 1:15 PM ET. Both races will air live on YouTube.com/GTWorld.

Christian Rose and Team Look to Deliver in Pocono Raceway Debut

LONG POND, Pa: It cannot be argued that Christian Rose and his Cook Racing Technologies (CRT) team have experienced their fair share of hardships in the ARCA Menards Series this season, but the team is hoping to leave all their back luck in the rearview mirror and capture their best finish of the season in Friday night’s General Tire Delivers 200 at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway.

There’s been little doubt that ARCA Menards Series rookie Christian Rose and his Cook Racing Technologies (CRT) team have showcased speed while competing in all three of ARCA’s national divisions, but Rose is ready to back up that speed with a satisfying finish that will propel him forward during his second half stretch of the 2022 season.

While some of the forks in the road have been eased with a pair of top-10 finishes, Rose is hoping to utilize the summer stretch to deliver his Mooresville, N.C.-based team with some welcomed momentum and consistency aboard his No. 42 West Virginia Tourism Chevrolet SS.

“I am looking forward to getting back to racing this weekend at Pocono,” said Rose. “We had such a fast car earlier this month in Irwindale but unfortunately got wiped out in an accident which left us with another race where we had speed but the not result to show it.

“Pocono essentially kicks off our second half of the 2022 season and I’m looking forward to using the rest of the races to not only help strengthen build my racing resume but put some results on the board for my Cook Racing Technologies team.

“I know Pocono is going to be a challenge, but it’s a challenge I gladly accept. I can’t wait to get there.” To help prepare Rose for his fourth premier ARCA Menards Series start of the season, he will join his competitors in an open test session at the 2.5-mile triangle where he hopes to perfectly dial in his No. 42 West Virginia Tourism Chevrolet SS ahead of race day.

“I am extremely thankful for any seat time but having an open test day before the day of the race I can only see it being a win-win for us,” added Rose. “It is important for us to make gains with the handling and keep improving our lap times on Thursday and keep heading in the right direction on Friday.

“I think it is going to be a very competitive race, so it’s just crucial to get our team in a good place for qualifying and thrive during the race. A top-10 would be a great effort for my debut at Pocono. A top-five or better would certainly feel like a win.

“Nothing but positive vibes though from myself and our team marching to Pocono and looking ahead.”

Pocono will be the first race for Rose as a husband as he and his girlfriend Brooke tied the knot in western North Carolina two weeks ago.

“Life has been a journey of ups and downs,” sounded Rose. “I had no idea when I moved to Charlotte to

chase my dream the best thing to ever happen to me would be waiting on me.

“Brooke stole my heart on night one and I still get butterflies every time I see her. I’m a lucky guy.”

This season, Rose who will compete in all three of ARCA’s national platforms, the ARCA Menards Series, the ARCA Menards Series East and the ARCA Menards Series West will continue to strengthen a relationship with the West Virginia Department of Tourism.

The West Virginia Department of Tourism promotes West Virginia as a leading four-season travel destination and a top state to live, work and retire.

Known as the Mountain State, West Virginia is one of the most scenic states in the United States and home to thousands of acres of parks and public lands, including America’s newest national park and 45 state parks and forests.

In addition to its majestic mountains and rolling hills, West Virginia is full of rich historic sites, enchanting art galleries, charming towns and an immense sense of belonging found only in its heaven-like landscapes.

In West Virginia, let country roads lead you far away from everything. And a little closer to heaven.

“My relationship with the West Virginia Department of Tourism is everything to me,” added Rose.

“Without them, I would not be able to race at Pocono. It is my goal throughout the year to spread the mission of everything the West Virginia Department of Tourism means.

“It goes without saying that we have had a lot of speed with our West Virginia Department of Tourism race cars this year and I’m hopeful we can climb that ladder of consistency during the summer stretch.

“We are seeing a great amount of response from the fans about their experience in West Virginia and that’s part of why we are building this program. Pocono is another next in the journey and I look forward to proudly representing my home state and continuing my mission.”

Following Pocono, Rose will head to Ohio where he will attend the Cincinnati Reds vs. Miami Marlins baseball game on Monday, July 25, 2022, where Rose a former professional and award-winning college baseball pitcher will throw out the first pitch of the Major League Baseball game.

“I am looking forward to representing the West Virginia Department of Tourism, the ARCA Menards Series and Cook Racing Technologies in Cincinnati next week,” added Rose. “Everyone knows that baseball is my first love and now to combine the two worlds is a dream come true.”

Following Pocono, Rose and CRT plan to compete in the ARCA Menards Series event at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park on July 29.

Ford Performance NASCAR: Matt McCall Pocono Media Availability

Ford Performance Notes and Quotes
NASCAR Cup Series
Pocono Advance | Wednesday, July 20, 2022

Matt McCall, crew chief for Brad Keselowski on the No. 6 Kohler Generators Ford Mustang, is in his first season with Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing. Fresh off a seventh-place finish last weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, McCall spoke about the recently-announced Chicago Street Course race and other topics as part of a call with members of the media this morning.

MATT MCCALL, Crew Chief, No. 6 Kohler Generators Ford Mustang – HOW FAMILIAR ARE YOU WITH THE NEW TIRE CONSTRUCTION YOU HAVE STARTING AT POCONO AND HOW IT MIGHT CHANGE THINGS? “I think obviously just the data that we’ll receive and the stuff that they’ve done at the wheel force test. It’s not the exact tire, but similar construction. The left sides, they basically moved the label to the inside, but hopefully I think they’re thinking a little bit of durability help from both sides, just from a pressure standpoint, so I guess we’ll see. I still feel like there’s some pretty big nervousness from the left side durability for this weekend, but they didn’t have any issues at the test from what I understand, so I guess we’ll see when we get there.”

DO YOU FEEL YOUR TEAM MAY HAVE TO WIN TWICE THIS SEASON TO BATTLE FOR A PLAYOFF SPOT WITH 14 DIFFERENT WINNERS THIS SEASON? “Yeah, I would say that’s the way it’s lining up, for sure. Obviously, we need to get the first one and then you would look for the second one. It’s definitely getting tight.”

IS THERE A TRACK COMING UP FOR THE REST OF THE REGULAR SEASON OUTSIDE OF DAYTONA WHERE YOU COULD HAVE A CHANCE AT WINNING? “Brad is really good at Richmond, so that stands out as being a good track. We were OK for the first race there. We didn’t have a winning car, but had decent speed. We’ve got a little bit of a notebook to go back there, so I would say there and honestly the road courses. We haven’t been able to put all the finishes together, but we’ve been pretty solid so I think either one of those there’s a possibility if the strategy works out and our car is good Brad can make it happen.”

THOUGHTS ON THE CHICAGO STREET COURSE. “I think there’s no negative to change it’s just understanding and adapting to that. I think it’ll be a new adventure and we’re ready for it.”

WHEN DO YOU AS A CREW CHIEF START LOOKING AT THAT RACE AND TRYING TO MAKE PLANS? “I would say it would be later in the year most likely, but probably sooner than what you would normally look at just because it is so different from anything we’ve ran before in this series.”

HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN THE DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE CORNER TO A NON-TECHNICAL PERSON WITHOUT INVOKING THE WORDS ‘LOW TRANSFER’? “I think the biggest thing with this car anyway, probably the best way to describe entry a lot of times is almost like a hydroplane. You’re not necessarily in full control, so I would say that’s the biggest part with this car – the entry stability seems to be on edge. I would say that’s probably the easiest way to describe that. The middle, it’s the same at every track. You’re turning the wheels to the right on entry, turning back to the left in the middle and then to the right on exit, but I think the easiest thing to describe that is there’s definitely less stability with this car and then less forgiveness when you’re breaking the corners down. The exit seems to be better from the start of the year. All the drivers have learned and figured it out and setup stuff has evolved, but it’s still completely different from the perspective of what we’ve had before is when the rear of the car comes out further than the front, there’s not near the extra side force to help the stability and feel comfortable to keep driving it sideways.”

DO YOU FEEL YOUR TEAM IS MAKING THE PROGRESS YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE AT THIS POINT IN THE SEASON? “It’s not fast enough because if you’re not winning, you’re not where you want to be, but I feel like we have definitely made some strides. The thing is that everyone else is, too. If you think you’ve gained five or 10 spots, you’ve probably only got a couple because everyone is working all the time to get better. I do feel like we have been able to put together some better cars for Brad to drive as far as overall balance. We still have some work to do to get some more speed out of the cars, but, yes, I feel like we’ve definitely made some small gains.”

HOW HAS THIS FIRST SEASON GONE PAIRED WITH BRAD? DID CHEMISTRY SWAY ONE WAY OR THE OTHER BEFORE OR AFTER THE PENALTY? “Not really. I feel like Brad, honestly, is really easy to work with and he’s working hard all the time trying to get better, no different than we are and I think we all just adapted a little bit slower than we wanted to this car. I feel like now we’ve been a little bit more comfortable unloading at some of the tracks just from a setup standpoint, but I think communication-wise it started off pretty good in the off-season and he’s done a really good job of keeping that communication really high with me and the team. That’s the plus side of it, but obviously we don’t have quite the results that show for that.”

YOU TOLD BRAD TO SHAKE OFF THE AUSTIN DILLON INCIDENT LAST WEEKEND. DO YOU VIEW THAT AS PART OF YOUR ROLE, TRYING TO KEEP THINGS CALM AND STAY FOCUSED ON GETTING A TOP 10? “For sure. That’s a big part of it, communicating with him and T.J. to just make sure we relay the information that the race isn’t over. It’s so easy to be distracted if your day is going OK and we lost a little track position on the two-tire deal, but fortunately you don’t always know what he’s thinking because he’s very good about not speaking out loud, but overall that was the biggest thing was just trying to put us back in a spot to stay focused because he’s obviously really good at Loudon, so we needed to keep trying to march forward.”

WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ABOUT THE CHICAGO STREET RACE? “I think that’s intriguing. Anytime there’s change I feel like there’s a chance for opportunity for everyone. A different market. A street course is definitely interesting. I’m curious to see how it all works out for us, but I’m definitely interested to get there.”

HOW MUCH WORK IS DONE FOR THE SETUP FOR THAT RACE? “That will be a big part because it’s substantially different for us in trying to understand with the way this car works and as far as the travels and the types of limitations we have from NASCAR with the internal bumps stops, it’ll definitely turn into trying to understand the track roughness and that type of thing, so a lot of work will go into it trying to maximize performance.”

WHAT ARE YOUR EXPECTATIONS WITH BRAD FOR THE REST OF THE REGULAR SEASON? “I feel like this weekend we have to keep building on what we’ve been able to do the past couple of weeks. Someone asked earlier about winning two races, I still think we need to win one first and then figure out where we’re at. I think there will be some opportunity there, some strategy for some of these races to get a little bit more aggressive – maybe put us in position and hopefully we can be fast enough where you don’t have to do something like that, but I feel pretty good about it.”

BRAD HAS HIGH EXPECTATIONS, BUT HOW MUCH AS THIS BEEN ABOUT BUILDING A RACE TEAM IN YOUR FIRST YEAR TOGETHER? “That’s some of it, for sure. I think we’re fortunate that the team we have is really good, it’s just adapting to all the tools and everything we have to keep trying to maximize what we have. Everytime you go to the track you want to put yourself in position to win, but if you really don’t have that, that’s the hardest thing to go to the track and then feel like, ‘OK, we’re racing for 10th.’ At the same time, that’s what we probably didn’t do there for a few races and got put in a bad spot, so we’re trying to clean that up a little bit and just build on what we have to continue to get better.”

HOW FRUSTRATING HAS IT BEEN TO NOT BE ABLE TO CAPITALIZE ON THOSE RACES WHERE YOUR CAR HAS BEEN GOOD, BUT SOMETHING HAPPENS? “That’s the nature of the business. It goes in cycles. Yes, the frustration levels can get high, but you’ve got to be a realist and understand that you’ve got to keep working and approach next week the best that you can.”

COMING INTO THIS YEAR RFK WANTED TO HAVE A DEDICATED COMPETITION DEPARTMENT. WHAT IS YOUR PERSPECTIVE ON THAT AND HOW HAS IT GONE? “Our structure here is a little bit different than what I was accustomed to. I think there are benefits for sure and I still think it’s trying to put it all together. The toughest thing is that we only have two cars and our notebook build is a little bit smaller than other guys, but then if I use Trackhouse as an example they’re the fastest cars almost every week. We have not been able to maximize as much as what I feel like we should be able to from that side of building our notebook, but it’s slowly but surely getting better for sure.”

YOU HAVE SO MUCH SMT DATA. HOW DO YOU USE THAT DATA IN WORKING WITH YOUR DRIVER? “That’s a good question because the data we do have is a double-edged sword because if there’s a car faster than you, you start analyzing what line they’re running and what their inputs are. The sampling rate we get is still pretty small, but from a driver perspective it gives a good idea if someone is doing something different and with the shifting stuff now it definitely allows you, if someone is using a different gear and they seem to be making lap time, a chance to try that or relay that information, but also, at the same time, the adage used to be the driver would tell you they held it wide-open in qualifying and now they’re much more truthful now when it comes to that information. But it’s a good tool. I think it’s what drives competition because the drivers get out and study that data, trying to get ready, especially with the practice sessions we have. They happen pretty quick and then you line up and go qualify, so just trying to maximize as much as you can to increase performance each time on the track.”

CAN THEY DIGEST THE RAW DATA OR DO YOU HAVE TO TRANSLATE IT FOR THEM? “The visual and just the SMT app itself is pretty nice because it basically has the car on the track. The lines aren’t perfect, but it does overlay the lines to the other cars, so the visual is pretty good but still you definitely try to break it down a little bit to find the right cars and the certain laps you need to be looking at as quick as you can.”

Toyota Racing – Weekly Preview – 07.20.22

This Week in Motorsports: July 18-24, 2022

· NCS/NXS/NCWTS/ARCA: Pocono Raceway – July 22-24
· NHRA: Sonoma Raceway – July 24

PLANO, Texas (July 20, 2022) – It’s a busy weekend at Pocono Raceway for NASCAR and ARCA as fans get to see four races in three days, while the NHRA teams compete in their second stop on the Western Swing at Sonoma Raceway.

NASCAR National Series – NCS | NXS | NCWTS

Bell ready to add more trips to victory lane… Christopher Bell earned his first Cup Series win of the season at one of his favorite tracks – New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Sunday. The Oklahoma-native is effectively locked into the Playoffs as he sits eighth overall. Bell scored his first career Cup Series top-five finish at Pocono Raceway in June 2020.

First two for Denny … Denny Hamlin earned not only his first win at Pocono Raceway – but his first two wins as the then rookie driver swept the events at the track in 2006. He has since added four additional victories at the Pennsylvania-based track (August 2009, June 2010, July 2019, June 2020).

Busch desires repeat victory … Kyle Busch drove to victory at Pocono Raceway last season in a wild set of final laps. This is another stellar track for the two-time Cup Series champion as he has scored four wins in a Camry at Pocono Raceway since 2017.

Gibbs looks to be one spot better… Ty Gibbs came close to earning a victory in his first NASCAR Xfinity Series start at Pocono Raceway last season, finishing in second after leading 11 laps. The four-time victor this season would love nothing more than to add another victory to his tally as he looks to close in on the Xfinity Series overall championship points lead.

Ferrucci back in the Xfinity Series… Santino Ferrucci will make his return to the NASCAR Xfinity Series for the first of back-to-back starts for Sam Hunt Racing in the No. 26 Toyota GR Supra. The former Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year ran seven races for the team one season ago, including the event at Pocono where he earned a top-15 finish.

Toyota looks to set Truck Series record… Matt Crafton, who is currently in the final Playoff spot, looks to help Toyota clinch a Truck Series Playoff record. Since going to the Playoff format in 2016, no OEM has played seven drivers in the Truck Series Playoffs. Toyota already has six drivers locked into the field: John Hunter Nemechek, Chandler Smith, Ben Rhodes, Stewart Friesen, Ty Majeski and Christian Eckes have clinched six Toyota Tundra TRD Pro’s in the field, and if Crafton clinches his spot, Toyota will own the record.

Heim plans to grow Rookie of Year lead… Despite his part-time schedule, Toyota development driver Corey Heim took back the rookie of the year lead for the Truck Series at Mid-Ohio. Heim, who will run the balance of the season, is making his first Truck Series start at Pocono, but did claim victory at Pocono last year in the ARCA Menards Series.

Bodine goes for 800… Todd Bodine plans to make his final NASCAR start this weekend as the multi-time Truck Series champion will reach 800 starts for his NASCAR career. Bodine has one top-10 finish in five starts this season, but has scored 22 wins in his impressive Truck Series career, along with 15 NASCAR Xfinity Series victories.

NHRA – Top Fuel | Funny Car

Langdon on strong run… Shawn Langdon has continued to show improvement with his new crew chief and team as the 2013 Top Fuel Champion has advanced to the final round in two of the last three events (Bristol, Denver).

Sonoma sight of Todd’s first Funny Car win… J.R. Todd has driven to some great memories on NHRA’s Western Swing. In 2017, Todd earned his first Funny Car victory at Sonoma Raceway in just his 15th start in the class. Todd would deliver Toyota its most recent Funny Car title one season later.

Torrence family won the last two races at Sonoma… The Torrence Family has won the last two runnings of the Sonoma Nationals. Billy Torrence earned the Wally in 2019 and his son, Steve Torrence picked up the win last year.

NASCAR Regional Series – ARCA

Jones returns to ARCA… Toyota full-time Xfinity Series competitor Brandon Jones will get some extra laps on track as he competes in the ARCA Menards Series race on Friday evening. It is Jones’ third ARCA start of the season. The Georgia native has gone two-for-two in his previous starts this year at Charlotte Motor Speedway in May and Iowa Speedway in June.
