AUSTIN CINDRIC, No. 2 Menards/Quaker State Ford Mustang – YOUR MUSTANG SEEMED TO COME TO LIFE IN THE LAST STAGE. “It came to life. We had to do a little CPR there early. We were struggling pretty bad. We were pretty loose to start the race and I’m just proud of the effort from the guys on the 2 car, being able to make the right adjustments and get us out of a hole there. We went from not being able to go full throttle by myself on the racetrack to being able to run close behind other guys wide-open, so I’m proud of that effort and proud of a top-three finish. I felt like we deserved to be up there by the end of the race after we established track position. It was a solid day. I wish we could have gotten the Quaker State Ford in victory lane in the Quaker State 400, but a top-three is pretty good.”

HOW DID THE RACING COMPARE TO MARCH? “Well, I finished. That’s an improvement. I don’t know if it’s because I felt like our car was a little better or I ran more up front, but I definitely feel like the racing at least made more sense. Handling seemed to come into play and you could pick and choose your battles by how good you were versus kind of just being stuck. I enjoyed today’s race more than I did the spring.”

RYAN BLANEY, No. 12 Wabash Ford Mustang – “We were OK. We just lacked a little speed. We were decent, but we kind of lost track position there when some guys only did fuel and it was hard to get back up. Luckily, we ended up with a decent finish. We’ll go on to next week. We survived it and now we’ll get out of here.”

IT SOUNDED LIKE YOU WERE AN ADJUSTMENT AWAY ALL DAY. “It was a pretty good day. We got back in traffic there a little bit and it was just hard to make it back up. You just can’t go anywhere. It gets two-wide and you’re just stuck and you can’t really go anywhere, unless you were the 9 and you were the fastest car out there by a mile. It was pretty easy for him to go wherever he wanted. That looked fun, but, I’m just happy to end up decent. This race is just like a survival race pretty much. That’s what you’re gonna get when you’re speedway racing on a mile-and-a-half, so luckily we were able to survive it and get out of here with an OK finish.”

ARIC ALMIROLA, No. 10 Ford Pro Ford Mustang – “We just didn’t have the speed we needed to go up and compete. That one restart where I was leading the bottom lane we didn’t have what we needed to keep up. Our car was pretty good. We got it driving good there at the end, but we couldn’t muster up the speed we needed to go hang with those Chevrolets. The Chevrolets were really, really fast.”

THOUGHTS ON HOW THIS RACE WAS COMPARED TO THE FIRST ONE IN THE SPRING? “I didn’t think it was better racing. I thought the racetrack was a little more narrow. We couldn’t run the top up against the fence like we could in the spring. That kind of limited the options and kind of choked everybody down to two-wide.”

KEVIN HARVICK, No. 4 Hunt Brothers Pizza Ford Mustang – “I just couldn’t do anything in traffic. The car was really tight in traffic, which made it hard to race close to anybody. When they were side-by-side I would lose the nose really bad. We hung around and finished the race. Sometimes that’s what you’ve got to do at these places.”

CHASE BRISCOE, No. 14 Rush Truck Centers Ford Mustang – “I felt like balance was definitely more of an issue than the first race, for sure, with the hotter temperatures. I felt like we got it to where we were pretty decent and I was able to start working the wall a little more than a couple other guys. I went to pass the 10 and as soon as I did I guess I just got too high and got to where it was dirty still and killed the right-rear quarter panel and everything else so that kind of affected the rest of our day. I’m happy we were able to somewhat salvage a 16th, but I felt like if we didn’t have the damage, it would have been a lot better day. We’ll go on to New Hampshire next week and see if we can improve on it.”

COLE CUSTER, No. 41 HaasTooling.com Ford Mustang – “We got the car way better. The guys worked really hard and made great adjustments throughout the day. By the end, I thought we were just as good as anybody. We could have had a shot to win there. I think we were running in the top five on the last lap, but somebody wrecked in front of us and we got knocked back a little bit, but overall it was a good day of hopefully finding a direction and I think it was nice to go up there and run with those guys and show that we can have some speed.”

CHRIS BUESCHER, No. 17 Fastenal Ford Mustang – “It’s a different racetrack. It’s not the Atlanta that I grew up loving, but BJ came over and apologized already. I think coming off of trun two it flattens out a little bit and it took off on him. While we all checked up and spun out we made just a little bit of contact with him while we were sliding and it sounds like it may have been enough to bend a right-front component and ultimately ended up blowing a tire.”

A TOUGH BREAK FROM THE GOOD RUNS YOU’VE HAD OF LATE? “Yeah, it is. RFK has done a terrific job at making a lot of progress and finding a lot of speed. We’re gonna put this one behind us real quick because this is not an indicator of what we’ve been able to accomplish here lately. I guess it’s similar to superpeedways where there’s a lot of luck involved in this style of racing. We’ll regroup and be ready to hit the ground running again. I’m real excited for these next couple coming up.”

TOYOTA QUOTES

DENNY HAMLIN, No. 11 Coca-Cola Toyota Camry TRD, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 25th

After having a solid top-five run, Ross Chastain made contact with you, how frustrating is it to lose what could have been a strong finish?

“It’s just frustrating. We were in pretty good position, but ultimately got taken out.”

Are you frustrated with Ross Chastain after the contact that impacted your race?

“Yeah, of course.”

Is this something you need to digest for a while before saying too much?

“I’m done speaking, I just have to go race.”

How was your race going before the incident with Ross Chastain?

“We were in really good position and we were about to be clear of the 1 (Ross Chastain) and be in third in the outside line. I was really happy with where I was at for sure. I think the 1 probably sensed that we were about to clear him so he chased us up there and got into us.”

At what point has the line been crossed too many times?

“It’s all in whatever level I’m willing to take. It’s just another unfortunate circumstance for him.”

Can Ross Chastain win a championship with as many drivers he has made upset this season?

“Everyone has different tolerance levels and as you all know, I’ve reached my peak.”

CORVETTE RACING AT MONZA: Celebrazione for Tandy, Milner!

No. 64 Corvette C8.R claims maiden win in FIA WEC on Monza debut

MONZA, Italy (July 10, 2022) – VITTORIA for Corvette Racing at Monza!

Tommy Milner and Nick Tandy drove the No. 64 Chevrolet Corvette C8.R to a thrilling win in the Six Hours of Monza. It was the program’s first victory of the season in the FIA World Endurance Championship and the maiden win in the series for the mid-engine Corvette.

Tandy crossed the finish line first in GTE Pro after the leading Ferrari had to stop for a late-race splash of fuel with two laps to go. The No. 64 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette was close on fuel as well, but engineering strategy and Tandy’s fuel-saving made all the difference in the end.

The result was a welcomed one following a crushing retirement at the 24 Hours of Le Mans a month ago.

“This was a long time coming, but this team performed and executed so well today,” said Laura Klauser, GM Sports Car Racing Program Manager. “Tommy and Nick drove their hearts out in this Corvette. Even if we had a couple of setbacks, we found our way around them. We did what Corvette Racing always does: we never gave up!”

The victory was Corvette Racing’s first in the WEC since the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans and its first as a full-time entrant in the series. Milner and Tandy came close with a runner-up finish to open the year at the 1,000 Miles of Sebring.

Tandy started from second but ceded the position in the tight first corner and carried on the fight from there. Differing early strategies moved the Corvette back to second ahead of its first call to the pits. A long stop dropped the Corvette down to fourth in class, but Tandy continued to drive steady until the third full-course caution of the race just shy of the two-hour mark.

He stopped and handed off to Milner, who rejoined fourth but made up track position with a safety car period near the two-and-a-half-hour mark. The No. 64 continued to match the pace of the leaders, and Milner – making his first career start at Monza – moved the Corvette back into podium position just prior to another round of pit stops with two hours to go.

Tandy went the rest of the way and moved up to second after a five-second penalty to the leading No. 51 Ferrari with 90 minutes to go. A final full-course caution period with 70 minutes to go opened up the pit window for the final stop, and Corvette Racing engineering called him in with 67 minutes to go and a full tank of fuel.

Tandy got within four seconds of the No. 52 for the class lead inside 40 minutes to go before backing off to save fuel and get to the finish without another stop.

After seemingly settling for second, Tandy and the rest of Corvette Racing were astonished and ecstatic when both Ferraris peeled off into the pitlane. Minutes later, yellow-and-black clad team members were at the pitwall celebrating as Tandy crossed the line.

Corvette Racing’s next event in the FIA WEC is the Six Hours of Fuji on Sept. 9-11.

TOMMY MILNER, NO. 64 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R – GTE PRO WINNER: “I can’t believe it. The Ferraris seemed to have a lap better than us on fuel than what we could do. The team gave Nick a fuel number that seemed impossible to me, but he was just barely making it. At some point, I guess they thought they couldn’t go and we were sitting here thinking they had it in the bag. Obviously that wasn’t the case!

“You could see on the faces of the crew guys underneath the podium how unexpected this win was. We could see early on in the race that a podium was possible. But based on the pace of the Ferraris and them going a lap longer than us on at least one occasion while we were trying to save fuel… it looked like during the last run that second place was really going to be it. Nick was given a fuel number and told to push quite hard to close the gap if possible. There was a combination of things, I’m sure. Us putting pressure on them early on in that last stint made it so they couldn’t save a lot, so here we are P1!

“For me, it’s super special to be here at Monza for the first time. It’s a track that I’ve always wished I could race on. To be here for the first time and stand on the top step of that podium – which is quite historic – to see the fans and our crew guys just below us there was very cool.”

NICK TANDY, NO. 64 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R – GTE PRO WINNER: “With two laps to go, I saw a red car coming in and didn’t know which one. I asked if it was the 52 and the team said it was. Like Tommy said, we basically gave up with about 30 minutes to go because we had to hit a stupid number to make it. But we did!

“We had no idea really what cars could make it. I think there were four of the five cars that pitted under a safety car with basically three hours left, so it was going to be a stretch for all those cars to make it on two more stops. From then on it became a fuel mileage race. When the last full-course yellow came out, it made it worse for all those cars because everyone needed to pit for fuel because firstly we needed it. It also made the last stint another couple of laps longer. In the end, we were the car to make it.

“We fully expected the Ferrari to be able to go to the end. They had already done a stint under green to start the race and went a lap longer than what we could do even when we were saving earlier. We knew we had to be super-aggressive with the fuel numbers. After the full-course yellow, the guys gave me a fuel number… I did laugh a bit when they said it at the start but I knew that if we stopped then it was going to be game over. So we had to run at that pace. The good thing is that at the end, the track came to us and the tires were definitely working really nicely toward the end of the race. So the car had good pace and we could take a bit of margin down the straight and keep the speed in the corners to put the pressure on the Ferrari. I could see that they picked up the pace and that’s when I guess they said they couldn’t make it. We didn’t know that at the time, so when they came in with two laps to go, it was happy days! Corvette’s first time in Monza and Corvette’s and Tommy’s first win!

“I didn’t want to save anything. We were catching them quite quickly on the final stint and I thought things were looking really good. Then all of a sudden we had to start really making the fuel number they’d given me rather than trying to make it while still going quick. We didn’t really drop any pace but they suddenly seemed to start pulling away from us. I thought at the time and hoped that they had given up on their fuel savings. We just assumed they were safe and they could run the pace they wanted. As it turned out, they couldn’t. Everyone went from, ‘OK, good race and good podium’ to ‘We’re about to win the Monza Six Hours!’ So it was pretty cool!”

Rosberg X Racing reign supreme in Sardinia for second win of Season 2

Rosberg X Racing (RXR) took the win at the NEOM Island X Prix II with a late overtake to secure their second victory of Extreme E Season 2. X44 finished second and Genesys Andretti United Extreme E third after ABT CUPRA XE were disqualified following a safety infringement.

10 July 2022, Sardinia: With Nico Rosberg in the NEOM Island X Prix II paddock to watch his team’s progress, a superb pass by Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky on ABT CUPRA XE’s Jutta Kleinschmidt sealed the win.

Åhlin-Kottulinsky, and team-mate Johan Kristoffersson, who headed the standings prior to the Sardinian double-header, now have a lead of 37 points ahead of their nearest challengers No.99 GMC Hummer EV Chip Ganassi Racing, with X44 now up to third.

RXR also scored maximum points from Round Three, with the quickest combined time in the Continental Traction Challenge adding five to their tally, bringing their total overall to 80 points.

Nico Rosberg, Founder and CEO of Rosberg X Racing, commented: “It is such a pleasure for me to work with this team. It reminds me of my F1 days. It’s been a great team effort with everyone giving their best and being at the height of their game. Both drivers have been performing at an incredibly high level.

“Johan was the star of Race 1 in NEOM. Mikaela was the star of this weekend with her speed and incredible pass for the win through the water during the last lap. I couldn’t be prouder.”

Johan Kristoffersson, RXR, said: “I am very happy. It was a phenomenal weekend for us, starting with a good qualifying and we were also very fast in the super sector. The car felt amazing all week and we have got to thank the team for that. They worked very hard, and it paid off.

“My run was smooth, but Nasser was incredibly fast, so I just tried to stay as close as possible to him to give Mikaela the best possible basis for her run, and she made good use of it with a fantastic move. It’s a team achievement that we can all be proud of.”

Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky, RXR, said: “It’s been my strongest Extreme E weekend so far. We worked so hard, Johan and I analysed everything to try and improve even more. The final was an absolute blast for me, waiting for right opportunity to overtake Jutta. After this week, and everything that happened during the first race, I just feel like this is the ending that we deserved, and I am very happy for the team.”

Alejandro Agag, CEO and Founder of Extreme E, added: “I think it’s been a great success. I think we’ve seen really the Championship coming together, very few technical problems for the cars, and I think we’ve seen the best racing so far.

“I hope that this is not that only double-header as it is a great format. It gives the chance for teams that don’t do well to recover the race after. I think everybody was very positive about it – it makes a longer time of enjoying racing and I think there will be more of them to come.”

The scene was set for a thrilling climax to the Sardinia double-header as Nasser Al-Attiyah lined up in the favoured number 2 spot between Timmy Hansen and Sébastien Loeb. On the other end of the start line Johan Kristofferson was joined by Carlos Sainz Snr. following their dramatic collision in last round’s Final, which saw RXR receive a 30-second penalty that pushed the team from first to third.

As the teams set off, Sainz Snr. experimented by taking his ODYSSEY 21 down the furthest possible lane on the right, away from Kristofferson in the RXR car. The Spaniard’s gamble did not pay off, as the ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team came out at the back of the pack as the cars merged into the single lane.

Meanwhile ABT CUPRA XE on the preferred line surged to the front of the group, with RXR close behind in second and X44 rounding out the top three.

Timmy Hansen slotted into fourth for Genesys Andretti United Extreme E as Loeb and Kristoffersson chased down Al-Attiyah further up the course.

Five seconds separated the front three as Al-Attiyah began to pull away from Kristoffersson, while a problem for Sainz Snr. Saw the ACCIONA | SAINZ XE car drop off the back of the pack and eventually come to a stop out on track.

It was still a four-way tear up for the win as the teams entered the Switch Zone until disaster struck for ABT CUPRA XE. During the driver change Jutta Kleinschmidt failed to properly buckle her seatbelt before setting off on her lap. This would later lead to the team’s disqualification from the Final, after they finished second on the course.

They lost the lead thanks to an incredible overtake from RXR’s Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky in the closing stages of the race, who forcefully took the position to take the team’s second win of 2022.

ABT CUPRA XE’s disqualification also promoted X44 into second and secured Genesys Andretti United Extreme E a spot on the third step of the podium, their first top three finish of the season, which was a huge boost for both teams after a difficult start to the Sardinian double-header.

Sébastien Loeb, X44, said: “In the end the feeling was quite good from the start of Q1 of the second race. The balance of the car was much better compared to the first event, so finally we could push and in the end we finished second in Round Three.

“It’s a good result, but we are still losing points to the leader, quite a lot actually given the super sector ones that they scored. We need to react as RXR is really strong . Both of the drivers are really fast and they make no mistakes, so we’ll need to be stronger next time.”

Catie Munnings, Genesys Andretti United Extreme E, said: “I am so happy to get on the podium following the Crazy Race. Bear in mind that you get a worse choice on the grid for the Final, and here it really does make a difference where you end up, – so that was a great feeling.

“This is a well-deserved result for the team. We had good pace this weekend and to be rewarded with a podium is special. I’m really looking forward to Chile as I think we’ve turned a corner, removed the bad luck we have been experience as a team from the first couple of races and hopefully we’ll be on the top step next time.”

Next up in the race calendar is the Copper X Prix in Chile on 24-25 September 2022, and the rest of the grid will be working hard to knock RXR off their perch at the top of the standings.

Overview:

Riley Herbst finished ninth in the Alsco Uniforms 250 NASCAR Xfinity Series race Saturday at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing started eighth in the 163-lap race around the 1.54-mile oval and battled for the lead with fellow Monster Energy driver Ty Gibbs at the start of the final stage on lap 87. Contact sent Gibbs scraping along the outside retaining wall while Herbst dropped back to eighth. Herbst maintained his spot among the top-10 until the race’s final restart on lap 116 when he got hung in the bottom lane and fell to 15th. Undeterred, Herbst used the remainder of the race to climb back into the top-10 where he ultimately finished ninth to score his second straight top-10 at Atlanta.

Riley Herbst, driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing:

“It was a rough day. Mistakes were made, but I’m still happy that we brought home a ninth-place finish. We had a car that could run up front, but I just lost the lead pack after getting shuffled back. We’ll learn and move onto New Hampshire next weekend.”

Notes:

● Herbst earned his 12th top-10 of the season and his third top-10 in five career NASCAR Xfinity Series starts at Atlanta.

● There were six caution periods for a total of 28 laps.

● Twenty-two of the 38 drivers in the race finished on the lead lap.

● AJ Allmendinger remains the championship leader after Atlanta with a 29-point advantage over second-place Ty Gibbs.

Next Up:

The next event on the NASCAR Xfinity Series schedule is the Crayon 200 on Saturday, July 16 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon. The race starts at 2:30 p.m. EDT with live coverage provided by USA and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

RCR NXS Post Race Report: Atlanta-2

Sheldon Creed and the No. 2 Whelen Chevrolet Team Lead Laps at Atlanta Motor Speedway

Finish: 12th
Start: 15th
Points: 14th

“Our Whelen Chevrolet had speed today. I spun out early but we stayed out at the end of Stage 1 and cycled into the lead. We were able to lead some laps and finished second when the stage ended. We were able to pit with the leaders and were in position to contend for a good finish, but I just didn’t have enough help there toward the end of the race to get to the front. Hopefully, we can bounce back next week at New Hampshire.” -Sheldon Creed

Austin Hill and the No. 21 Bennett Transportation & Logistics Chevrolet Team Take Home the Victory at Atlanta Motor Speedway

Finish: 1st
Start: 5th
Points: 6th

“I grew up racing here at Atlanta Motor Speedway. I raced on the quarter-mile track in bandoleros and legends cars and I have a lot of wins and a lot of memories there. To finally win on the big track means a lot. Back in the spring I ran second and the last two years prior to that I ran second as well. I felt like Atlanta Motor Speedway owed me a win and to finally get it done means a lot. Our Bennett Transportation and Logistics Camaro was as fast as Xfinity internet today, that’s for sure. That was probably one of the best cars I’ve ever had. It was probably a little bit better than the car I had at Daytona when I won. The things I could do with that car and the lines that I could run and whenever I wanted to get to the lead, I felt like I could. Right before that last caution my spotter, Derek Kneeland, said if you can get the lead, I’d like to see you get the lead and just control the race. Two laps later I got a big run coming off of Turn 2 and we set sail from there. I was able to control the lanes and the runs that were coming. My spotter and I were doing a good job controlling the lines. To win at Atlanta, a place that I grew up racing and I grew up an hour down the road, I can’t really put into words what it means. It’s so special. It’s top of the list for wins for me as of right now and something I’ll remember for the rest of my career.” -Austin Hill

TOYOTA QUOTES

RYAN TRUEX, No. 18 Auto-Owners Insurance Toyota GR Supra, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 3rd

How was your race overall and how do you feel about the third-place finish?

“This place is crazy with this package. I’m just thankful to be in this car. This wasn’t on my schedule and JGR (Joe Gibbs Racing), Toyota and Auto Owners stepped up. To have them on the car with all the success Martin’s (Truex Jr.) had and everything they’ve done for him, it’s really special to me. I was trying to backup and get a run from the 11, but just didn’t have anything for those guys – the top few in front of us, I don’t know if they were more trimmed out or what, but I just could never get that run I needed. Just kind of had to hang out at the top> I was kind of hoping they would have a big jumble in three and four and I was just going to run the top and keep it wide open. Just thankful to be here and hopefully I’ll be back for more.”

What does it say for you as a driver that there isn’t a scratch on this race car?

“I guess I’m a little too patient sometimes. Here’s the thing, I slid through my box twice on pit road and I was so mad at myself. And it’s so hard when you don’t do this a lot. It’s so hard when you don’t do this a lot. I did it the first time and was like, ‘Okay, I’m not going to do it a second time.’ Then I did it the second time. So I was mad at myself and I feel like every time I’m out here in the Xfinity Series, I have something to prove. I know I deserve to be out here. Hopefully this helps and hopefully I’ll be back more with Gibbs.”

When were you hoping to make a move in the closing laps?

“I don’t know, the 21 (Austin Dillon) was so good. I got the lead at one point, but he was just looking for a way around me. He was so fast. I slipped up once off of two and he just turned under me and cleared me all by himself. I think that just shows how strong their car was. We had a good car, but we just didn’t quite have winning speed barring the seas parting on the last lap, which it almost did, it was close. Stevie Reeves (spotter) up top did a good job of just keeping me calm and keeping me disciplined. The big thing there was just don’t give up the top. We saw (Tyler) Reddick make up a lot of spots by going to the top and getting to people’s quarter panels. Really reminds me of truck racing at Michigan, you just can’t give up the top or you’re done and you’re going to the back. Really just a team effort. Spotter means a lot. Jason (Ratcliff, crew chief) and these boys do a great job at making good changes. Starting the race I was actually pretty loose and I thought this was going to be a long day. But they fixed it up and got the Auto Owner’s Insurance GR Supra tuned up and rolling fast.”

TY GIBBS, No. 54 Monster Energy Toyota GR Supra, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 35th

What happened that took you out of the race?

“We had a very fast Monster Energy GR Supra. Honestly, I’m happy about that and thankful to my team for allowing me to be here. And thanks to Toyota for all the stuff they do and we’ll move onto New Hampshire. We had a fast car and just got a little contact and that’s part of it. We’ll just move on and go hammer down.”

From your standpoint, was it the push or just hard racing that ended your race?

“We had a very fast Monster Energy GR Supra. Thank you to Toyota for all the help. We had a good car and the 98 (Riley Herbst) just slid up and wasn’t clear and hooked us in the left front and got me in the wall. Just hard racing and came out on the bad side of it. Luckily, happy to walk out of this place on my feet.”

How disappointing is it to have this happen after winning this race last year?

“It’s disappointing, but you can’t really control speedway racing. Hopefully the fans enjoy it and we’ll get back at it next week at New Hampshire.”

DGR NCWTS Recap: Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course

Saturday, July 9
Track: Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, 2.258-mile road course
Race: 15 of 23
Event: O’Reilly Auto Parts 150 at Mid-Ohio (67 laps, 151 miles)

Hailie Deegan, No. 1 Craftsman Ford F-150

Start: 28th
Stage 1: 15th
Stage 2: 17th
Finish: 10th

Hailie Deegan would start in the 28th spot following a wet Friday afternoon qualifying session at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. For Saturday’s race, the No. 1 fired off fast as the Craftsman Ford F-150 reached 15th by the end of Stage One. As Deegan made her first pit stop of the afternoon, Crew Chief Mike Hillman Jr. called for a slight air pressure adjustment to fix tightness through the center. However, the problem would persist throughout Stage Two, finishing 17th ahead of the race’s closing stage. Deegan radioed the crew to loosen her condition, proving beneficial as the No. 1 jumped to 12th place before a caution forced the field to line back up for a green-white-checkered finish. Fighting through a tire rub, the 20-year-old would skyrocket two more spots on the final lap, netting her first top-10 of the season.

Tanner Gray, No. 15 Ford Performance F-150

Start: 16th
Stage 1: 12th
Stage 2: 11th
Finish: 20th

Tanner Gray started 16th by way of his qualifying lap from Friday afternoon. At the drop of the green, the Ford driver set his sights forward, and after Stage One found himself in 12th. He entered the top-10 for the first time on lap 34 but ended up 11th at the conclusion of Stage Two, following a spirited battle with Kaz Grala and Ty Majeski. After the final round of pit stops, Gray continued his career-best road course effort by moving into ninth and maintaining there throughout the final stage. A late caution set the field up for a green-white-checkered finish, and on the opening lap after the restart, Gray was spun out by the 19 truck and stuck with a 20th-place finish at the tail of the lead lap.

Taylor Gray, No. 17 Ford Performance F-150

Start: 10th
Stage 1: 34th
Stage 2: 25th
Finish: 15th

Taylor Gray rolled off in 10th position after making it into the second round of qualifying at Mid-Ohio. The 17-year-old had a blistering start, placing him in the eighth position within the first five laps. Despite the early speed, mechanical troubles hindered the Ford Performance driver as he tumbled down the running order due to a lack of engine power. After being diagnosed with a dropped cylinder and making numerous stops on pit road, Gray salvaged the afternoon by running a conservative race and marching his way to a 15th-place finish.

Next event: CRC Brakeleen 150 at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pennsylvania on July 23 at 12:00 p.m. ET.

GMS Racing NCWTS Race Recap: Mid-Ohio

Grant Enfinger, No. 23 Champion Power Equipment Chevrolet Silverado RST

START: 12TH
FINISH: 11TH
POINTS: 9TH

Quote: “Overall, I’d say we executed well this weekend. My No. 23 Champion Power Equipment Chevy had some speed and it allowed us to stay up front and in contention for most of the race. We were able to gain some much needed stage points, and that will help our position heading into the final regular season race at Pocono. Wish we could have gotten a few spots better in the finishing order, but I was making a pass and hit debris on the track and went off track which cost us our finishing position. Regardless, we had a pretty good points day and made some great improvements on our road course package.”

Jack Wood, No. 24 Sevwins Chevrolet Silverado RST

START: 26TH
FINISH: 29TH
POINTS: 25TH

Quote: “Tough day at Mid-Ohio, we never really had the pace that we wanted, but we started to figure out some stuff and make speed towards the end of the race. Unfortunately, we just got taken out in someone else’s mess there at the end. The struggle of our season continues with bad luck, but it’s just part of racing and there’s not much more that we could do. I’m thankful to all of my No. 24 GMS Racing team for working hard and improving on our truck, and now my focus is all on Pocono.”
