Nashville Businesses Partner with Jesse Little at Nashville Superspeedway

Mooresville, NC (June 20, 2022) – We are excited to announce that several Middle Tennessee business owners have come together to support racing in the Nashville community by sponsoring Jesse Little and his Young’s Motorsports Chevrolet for the upcoming NASCAR Camping World Truck race at Nashville Superspeedway.

Racing has always been about family and building relationships. We don’t know if it was by chance or fate, but this whole idea started around a campfire in February at Daytona.

This is where Travis Wright, partner at CS&A Insurance based in Nashville, Tenn, and owners of Young’s Motorsports, Randy and Tyler Young found themselves as neighbors in the infield.

After coming off a sixth-place finish, Little and the rest of the race team were celebrating their strong showing by hanging out in the motor coach neighborhood with Travis, Tyler, and Randy.

As the evening turned to night, the group found themselves talking about Nashville and all the excitement about NASCAR being back for two years in a row.

On a whim, Travis posed the idea of collaborating with local Nashville businesses to sponsor Jesse for the race at the Nashville Superspeedway. “How neat would it be if we can bring folks together and create more awareness for the sport in the Nashville community?”, Travis said.

Randy, Tyler, and Jesse all looked at each other and said, “Well then, let’s make it happen!” and the rest is history!

The other sponsorship component was how can we also “give back” through this partnership? Travis has worked locally in Nashville with Motor Racing Outreach for several years and the Waltrip Brothers Charity Championship (WBCC).

This is the annual golf tournament and concert hosted by Darrell and Michael Waltrip to raise funds for MRO every year. MRO has been an instrumental organization for drivers, crews, and their families for close to three decades.

Little grew up as one of the MRO kids as he spent most of his childhood at the racetrack when his dad, Chad Little, raced in the 1990s. The plan would be to donate any funds raised over what is needed for the sponsorship to MRO.

Jesse Little will be honoring his dad Chad Little with a throwback paint scheme and retro driver suit that resembles the suit Chad wore in the 90s.

The primary sponsor is Nashville-based business Catchin’ Deers. Business owner and former Nashville Predator Mike Fisher is excited about this partnership. “We are really looking forward to the race and the opportunity to partner with such a great group of people”.

The ends of the rivet are then hammered down, which fuses the two pieces of metal together. Riveting is a very strong joint that can withstand a lot of force and vibration.

Preparation key to WGI success for Sean Creech Motorsport drivers

Cardio and heat training in the regimen for Willsey and Barbosa, as Jakobsen readies for another US track debut

JUPITER, Fla. (20 June 2022) – As the Sean Creech Motorsport (SCM) team prepares for the challenges ahead in Sunday’s Sahlen’s Six Hour of The Glen (Sunday at 10:40 a.m., USA Network), all three drivers are focused on fitness and heat acclimation to prepare for the typically grueling event at Watkins Glen International.

Full-season drivers João Barbosa and Lance Willsey will be joined by endurance driver Malthe Jakobsen, who last took the wheel of the No. 33 SCM Exelixis/Focal One/Alta Equipment Ligier JS P320 for the team’s victory in the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.

Jakobsen will compete at WGI for the first time this weekend, while Willsey will see his first IMSA action at the track, having contested SCCA and vintage events there in the past.

Barbosa has an extensive history at the legendary road course, having competed in 19 six- hour events and 25 total IMSA races. He has scored four wins, two poles and six podium finishes in the endurance classic, and racked up over 10,000 race miles in total – so when Barbosa talks about the challenges of Watkins Glen, he knows of which he speaks.

“Watkins Glen is a high-grip, quick track,” said Barbosa. “The Loop is a long sweeping corner with a lot of G-Forces, which becomes very tough on your neck in an endurance race. They repaved the track years ago with very good asphalt to keep up the speed and the grip. It’s one of my favorite tracks, but preparation is key.”

Without driver cooling aids or much outside ventilation, it gets very hot inside the Ligier prototype cockpit, and both Willsey and Barbosa have added heat training to their daily regimens. Unsurprisingly, Willsey, a Boston-area physician and medical entrepreneur takes a very scientific approach as he has significantly grown his time on two wheels.

“When I ride, I generate all kinds of data,” said Willsey, 61. “Distance, heart rate, watts expended, calories burned, everything. I can see how hard I have to work – and by work, I mean watts expended – almost 30% harder now than I did 10 years ago in order to generate the same physical performance. Obviously, I’m one of the older drivers in the series so I have to work a bit harder. I’m pushing 40 to 80 miles a day, six days a week, which is almost a full-time job!

“I’m pretty locked into a two-pronged strategy,” Willsey continued. “I spend an hour in the morning doing hyper-thermic conditioning, riding an indoor bike for 60 to 90 minutes with a heater on. That drives my core temperature up, simulating a driving stint in hot conditions. Heat is the enemy so physiological adaptation is key. In the afternoon, I do outside cycling, alternating between long, slow rides and interval training – less miles, but more max heart rate. There are some reasonable hills in the Boston area and there’s also the Mount Wachusett, which is over 2,000 ft. tall. There are many pieces to the puzzle – I have to do whatever I can to even the playing field against all these kids! Strength and conditioning, and time on the simulator, are all aspects I can control.”

“It’s definitely a challenge (inside the car) during the longer races,” said Barbosa, 47, who resides and trains in warm and humid coastal Florida. “And it can be super hot at Watkins Glen. It can be difficult to prepare, and preparations depend on your physical make-up. I try to minimize the heat’s effect and living in Florida is perfect – I put my stationary bike in the garage, with little circulating air, and ride for up to an hour. I’m a puddle of sweat at the end, it can be more than 95F inside and quite humid as well, difficult to breathe. It’s not fun, but we have to keep doing it. I prefer to suffer more outside the car and less inside! Apart from that, I run or swim, and go to the gym three or four times a week to work with weights. I also have a system at home to work on neck strength, which is very important at Watkins Glen as well.”

By contrast, 18-year-old Jakobsen doesn’t plan to change his regular training regimen ahead of his third new racetrack of the year (having finished second with the team in the Rolex 24 at Daytona).

“Normally, I do a lot of running and cycling, and then a little bit of weightlifting,” said Jakobsen. “But not a lot. I’ve never been to Watkins Glen so I’ve been practicing a bit on the simulator to get ready. I really have no idea what to expect, so there will be a lot to learn!”

The Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen takes the green flag Sunday at 10:40 a.m. Eastern. The race will be broadcast live in the U.S., in its entirety on Peacock TV and on USA Network. International viewers can watch via IMSA.tv, with IMSA Radio also available at IMSA.com.

Jr III Racing Takes Championship Lead to Watkins Glen International

Watkins Glen, NY (20 June 2022) – Jr III (“Junior-Three”) Racing heads to Watkins Glen International for the annual Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen on June 26 (10:40am ET, Peacock).

The event will be Jr III Racing’s second IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup race this season, having scored an impressive second place finish at the Twelve Hours of Sebring in March.

Jr III regulars Garett Grist and Ari Balogh will be joined by Nolan Siegel as the trio take on the six hour classic in the No. 30 Airbnb Ligier JS P230.

After scoring a second place finish at the last IMSA round at Mid-Ohio, Jr III Racing rose to the top of the leaderboard in IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship LMP3 class standings. The team looks to extend its 27-point lead heading into the second half of the IMSA WeatherTech season.

Last year, Grist and Balogh teamed with Jr III Racing for the WeatherTech 240 at The Glen competing in Prototype Challenge which saw the pair nearly score a podium after finishing fourth.

Jr III Racing has scored two consecutive podium finishes so far this season, and Grist is ready to add another to the stat sheet at the 3.4-mile course.

“Watkins Glen is an old school fast track with close walls,” said Grist. “It’s part of what makes racing in the US so good with high speed, high commitment. We had a great test there the other week getting all three of us comfortable with the car on that track. The boys have been hard at work at the shop preparing our race car. With it being an endurance race, reliability will be key for a successful result.”

Joining the driver duo is 17 year old Siegel, who debuted in the highest level of IMSA competition in 2022 at the Rolex 24 At Daytona which saw him finish sixth. Siegel has shown his strengths as a racer this season competing in the Indy Pro 2000 Championship which has yielded two poles, two podiums and two wins.

“I’ve raced at The Glen in a GT4, but the LMP3 is very fast,” said Siegel. “It’s a very fast track, so it was quite cool to drive the prototype. I can’t wait to get back in there. I’ve known Garett (Grist) now for a little bit, and he is obviously very fast. It will be great to work with him and see what I can learn from everyone. Overall, it’s a fun team, and I’m sure it will be a fun race.”

Flying Lizard Motorsports Gains Momentum at VIRginia International Raceway

ALTON, Vir., (June 20, 2022) – Professional sports car racing team Flying Lizard Motorsports wrapped up another action-packed race weekend in the SRO America organization, racing two Aston Martin Vantage GT4 cars in the GT America Powered by AWS and the Pirelli GT4 America series. The ten-time champions raced through the hills of VIRginia International Raceway with two sets of double-headers, earning a podium finish and two more top-five finishes.

“This was one of our best weekends so far this year,” said Program Manager Darren Law. “It is unfortunate that we had so many yellow flag laps because we didn’t get the chance to show our true potential. Both cars were fast all weekend long. Andy had the fastest race lap on Saturday and we took our second podium of the year on Sunday. Part of our program this year is getting Elias comfortable with the Aston Martin and working on his speed and racecraft and he took a big step forward this weekend. We have some additional testing coming up and look to bring this positive momentum to the next race at Watkins Glen.”

Created as a single-driver, 40-minute sprint championship, the GT America series provided a fun arena for bronze-rated drivers to race for top bragging rights this weekend at VIRginia International Raceway. Elias Sabo and the No. 08 Aston Martin Vantage GT3 started from sixth in class, and 16th overall in the 26-car field. In the first two laps, he gained four overall spots, still racing from his starting position in class, though reeling in the car ahead. An early full course caution forced the field to take a breath, following the leader until the racing resumed. Once it did, the battles got heated, with Elias putting heavy pressure on Chris Gumprecht in the Mercedes AMG GT4. Sabo stayed consistent and continually progressed with every lap, earning a fifth-place finish in the tight GT4 class.

He started race two from ninth position, with a little more work needed to climb to the front. He settled into tenth at the start, staying close to the rear of the No. 67 of Jose Dasilva. His lap times continued to improve, hauling to run a tenth of a second faster than the race leaders. A full-course caution came out with eleven minutes to go, allowing the field to bunch up and have a three-minute sprint to the checkered flag. He earned a sixth-place finish, gaining three positions during his quick, 40-minute sprint.

Pirelli GT4 America
The GT4 America season had little green flag racing this weekend, as a series of full-course cautions and even a very lengthy red-flag period consumed the time on the race clock. Elias Sabo started race one from 11th place, and a lengthy caution ate up most of his drive-time. The race eventually went back to green, and Sabo pitted, allowing the No. 8 Aston Martin to make its mandatory driver change to Andy Lee. He joined the race in tenth, quickly working his way up to seventh by the next full-course caution. , Another full course caution expended Andy’s green flag racing time, but not before he earned the award for the fastest lap of the race.

Because Sabo started race one on Saturday, Lee would start race two on Sunday, taking the green flag from ninth place in the Pro/Am class. A chaotic opening lap led to over an hour-long red flag, completely suspending all track activity until the facility was able to complete track clean-up and repairs. The race restarted with 40 minutes remaining, and Lee was able to enjoy just a handful of green-flag laps and get to eighth position before the next full-course caution appeared. An excellent pit stop and driver change during the pit window rocketed Sabo up to fifth place overall, and third in class. Yet another full-course caution interrupted Sabo’s run to fight for a higher result, though he was able to hold off heavy pressure from the No. 39 of Chris Cagnazzi. The team took great pride in their second podium finish of the season, gaining momentum from their strong results.

The GT America powered by AWS and Pirelli GT4 America will race next at Watkins Glen International, July 22-24. The Lizards earned a pair of third-place finishes at the course last season and will bring their three-car Lamborghini Super Trofeo program to the fan-favorite course next weekend, racing in support of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Keith Curtis Wins Silver Kings Hard Enduro

Kellogg, ID – Seven time King of Kings snow climb champion Keith Curtis translated that skillset to the dirt to win round six of the AMA Hard Enduro Series at the beautiful but daunting Silver Kings Hard Enduro in the panhandle of Northern Idaho. The margin of victory was a mere :38 seconds over Idaho native Colton Haaker of Rockstar Husqvarna. The pair set a blistering pace from the gun and checked out early. The two crossed the finish more than an hour over third place Tim Apolle of Factory Beta (misspelled in results)

“Silver Kings made for an incredible time racing big mountain terrain on Silver Mountain.” Said winner Keith Curtis. “The course was super technical, especially at the beginning. I was battling with a group early on in the big hill climbs. We had to side hill at times. The scree fields seemed endless and would take everything you had. After checkpoint one, Colton and I began to pull a gap on the field. I know how good of a rider he is, so I just had to keep plugging away as mistake free as possible. I was stoked to pull it together for the big win! My Sherco SE 300 was a power house for those big climbs and slow techy sections. Huge thanks to Inside Enduro and the team for hosting such a great event,” Concluded Curtis.

Curtis was able to sweep the weekends festivities by claiming P1 at Saturday’s qualifying prologue as well as the afternoon “Funduro” event. Cooper Abbott would go P4 and P4 in both the qualifier and Funduro.

Other results of note. FactoryONE Sherco’s Cooper Abbott would finish P6 in men’s Pro. Fifteen year old Riley Bender finished P1 on his Sherco SE 125 Factory. With the victory, he secured the West and National Championships in the B class. He will be promoted to A in 2023. Justin Ellsworth won the C class on his Sherco SE 300.

DXDT Relishes Pair of Podiums at VIRginia International Raceway

ALTON, Vir., (June 20, 2022) – Riding on the momentum of their continued progression with every race weekend, DXDT celebrated a double podium weekend in the Fanatec GT World Challenge powered by AWS at VIRginia International Raceway. Team owner and driver David Askew, along with co-driver Dirk Müller and team, earned a pair of third place finishes at the team’s home track in the No. 63 Mercedes AMG GT3. Teammates Scott Smithson and Bryan Sellers also had a rewarding run, concluding the weekend with another top-five finish in the No. 08 Mercedes AMG GT3.

Scott Smithson produced a strong qualifying session for race one, starting the opening event from fourth in class, with teammate David Askew starting from eighth. The field took the green flag on Saturday afternoon for the 90-minute sprint race, and Smithson held off early pressure from the No. 45 of Charlie Luck before the first full-course caution. Bad luck struck early for the No. 08, forcing Smithson to put the car unexpectedly with a broken toe link. The car was able to continue racing, but a lap down from the rest of the field. Askew had a clean stint, after dropping two positions on the start, he climbed up to fifth place in class before handing the wheel over to his pro driver, Dirk Müller. Sellers had to pit later in his stint, due to another issue with the car, but ultimately was able to continue the race, looking to score any amount of points to go towards the championship. Jeff Burton was the first driver to have an incident, bringing out the first full course caution. Ziad Ghandour was the next car to careen off course, followed by several more as the race continued. Müller’s consistent driving kept the No. 63 Mercedes in position to climb through the field, ultimately earning a third place finish, the pair’s first of the season.

Since the AM drivers started race one, the Pros took their turn to start race two. Dirk Müller, racing the No. 63, took the green flag from sixth place in the Pro/Am class, while the No. 63 started from 10th with Bryan Sellers driving. An incident in the opening lap temporarily paused the racing action, but both blue and green Mercedes AMG GT3 cars had already made progress, with Müller moving up one position to fifth and Sellers up three positions to seventh. The field endured the first full course caution by lap two, brought out by a brake failure for the No. 91 Lamborghini of Corey Lewis. After resuming racing, a second full-course caution suspended the racing for about 20 minutes after an incident between the No. 43 Acura of Michael Cooper and the No. 88 of Madison Snow. The race went back to green, and Müller and Sellers held fifth and seventh to the end of their stints, pitting for their mandatory driver changes to Askew and Smithson. Sellers pitted the No. 08 first, followed the next lap by the No. 63 of Müller. As pit stops cycled through, Askew had climbed to fourth, and Smithson held seventh place. In the final ten minutes, both the class leader and the third-place cars spun off course, moving Askew and Müller up to third place, and Smithson and Sellers up to fifth, where they ultimately finished.

The team will carry their momentum into rounds seven and eight of the 14-round championship at Watkins Glen International in upstate New York, July 22-24. DXDT Racing has previously enjoyed satisfying runs at the iconic road course before, earning a podium and a second top-five finish in 2021, and three top-five finishes in 2019.

VIR a beautiful track and it’s just a real thrill to drive a race car here. It’s been a while since we’ve been on a podium and to do it twice this weekend is really an awesome thing. Like Dirk said, we’ve been working super hard and the results haven’t really shown, but we’ve had pace and we’ve had the ability to get the car on the podium so now it’s just up to executing and stop doing dumb AM driver things, and the results come. That’s what I’ve always believed, you just put the work in, you leave no stone unturned, and the results come. For here at VIR, it’s absolutely my best drive ever with back-to-back two days in a row. I’m kind of high-fiving myself in that area, it’s good for me. I expect the Pros to do their thing, and my Pro is one of the best in the business and he certainly did his thing.

Wow! What a nice weekend. I kind of knew we would always be good. I knew early on that I’m going to like this year. VIR is my second favorite track here in America. The team did awesome. David made absolutely no mistakes all weekend. He was on his toes and did a fantastic job. After yesterday’s podium, I think we just took the momentum for today and had a very good race finishing third again. I’m really happy.

Scott Smithson | No. 08 Qelo Mercedes AMG GT3

It was another learning experience for me. I think we did everything that we could. We’re just learning more and more about the car. I think we’ve got to qualify better than we have been, clean some of the mistakes up, and clean up some of the mistakes on the car mechanically. We have to make sure that we learn from all these things and get better next time.

Bryan Sellers | No. 08 Qelo Mercedes AMG GT3

It was a really good weekend for the No. 63 car with two podium positions, so I’m super happy for that. You’ve got to have a good strong team environment and be happy when they’re able to convert everybody’s hard work into results. Congratulations to them. On our side I feel like we just under delivered all weekend, which is honestly disappointing. Different times in the weekend Scott and I both showed enough speed to be better than what we did and certainly the guys worked harder than the results would identify. We need to go back, reevaluate, and make sure we come to the next round ready to go. Hopefully we are able to get our guys and Scott and I a result.

Cosmo, Cagnazzi match season best despite frustrating weekend at VIR

DANVILLE, VA (20 June 2022) – Stephen Cameron Racing managed to match its best showing of the season for Guy Cosmo and Chris Cagnazzi despite a weekend marred by a slew of racing incidents that led to a series of lengthy caution periods and red flags in both of the one-hour SRO Pirelli GT4 America races.

Guy Cosmo and Chris Cagnazzi finished 13th in Pro-Am and 28th overall in Saturday’s race in the No. 39 Presidio Mercedes-AMG GT4, and wound up taking fourth in Pro-Am and sixth overall on Sunday.

“A weekend of chaos and lost opportunities,” Cosmo said. “It’s a shame that we didn’t get a shot at doing any real racing because of the contact on track. The drivers are driving so desperately that no one is able to pull off any passes without contact, and they are putting themselves in bad positions resulting in really big crashes.”

With the race delayed by a red flag on the opening lap, Cagnazzi pitted early in the Saturday race while running ninth. Cosmo set fast lap early in his stint before the race went back to yellow with 26 minutes remaining. Cosmo was eighth but was caught up in a big pack at the restart. While making a clean pass exiting turn three, Cosmo’s opponent darted left making heavy contact with him, forcing them both off track into the grass.. The incident cost him 23 positions. Unfortunately, the race went back to yellow with 17 minutes remaining, and ended under caution.

“A competitor had to catch a big slide, and darted over to the left,” Cosmo said. “He said he didn’t know where I was yet he moved over and clobbered me hard. I came back on track behind his car – which was badly wounded – and the entire field freight-trained us and we couldn’t get back up to speed to get back in line.”

Cosmo gained two positions before the race-ending yellow waved.

“Unfortunately, that ruined the best run Chris and I had going to date,” Cosmo said. “That’s a testament to the pit strategy with the Cameron Racing team, they did a great job managing our pit stop.”

Cosmo started fifth on Sunday, with the race red-flagged for an hour after a massive incident on the opening lap. Cosmo pitted shortly after another caution followed a brief run of green-flag racing. Cagnazzi returned to the race running fourth in Pro-Am, and he held off another competitor to hold the position before a race-ending caution waved with 8:30 remaining.

“Tough weekend,” Cosmo said. “We were competitive, which was nice. We finished fourth in class today, so despite the setbacks we can go forward and move on to Watkins Glen.”

Cagnazzi also competed in the GT4 class in the GT America powered by AWS sprint races. He finished sixth in the Saturday race. On Sunday, he was running fifth in class before being forced off course in the Oak Tree Turn, costing him nine positions. He went on to finish 21st overall and 14th in class.

Next up for the SRO competitors will be Watkins Glen International, with a full slate of GT3 and GT4 competition on July 22-24.
