Wright Motorsports Sets Sights on Rolex 24 At Daytona

Porsche customer racing team seeks first Rolex Win

DAYTONA, Fla., (January 25, 2022) – After winning four IMSA championships last November at Petit Le Mans, Ohio-based race team Wright Motorsports is eager to get the 2022 WeatherTech SportsCar Championship started this week with the first race of the year: The 60th Rolex 24 at Daytona. The No. 16 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R, the latest Michelin Endurance Cup Champion, will be one of 61 cars competing in the 24-hour endurance race, a capacity field for the iconic sports car racing event. Reigning Michelin Pilot Challenge champions Ryan Hardwick and Jan Heylen will be joined by last season’s GTD champion Zacharie Robichon and Porsche factory driver Richard Lietz.

With two consecutive fourth-place finishes at the Rolex 24, the No. 16 Porsche not only will be racing strong to land a spot on the podium but secure the GTD-class victory as well. In last week’s three-day test at the Roar Before the 24, the program continually ran at the top of the charts, closing out the event as the second-fastest GTD car. The 2021 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Michelin Endurance Cup champions have proven to be strong competitors in endurance racing, able to run up front and mistake-free over extended periods of time.

“We had a very strong Roar Before the 24,” said Team Owner John Wright. “The drivers all got up to speed quickly, the crew hit their marks, and the Porsche showed its strength and reliability as always. With the size of this year’s field, we’ll take great care in keeping the car clean and in a safe but strong position. With our lineup, we have a strong shot to be there to fight in the final hour.”

Following the Roar Before the 24, the team has set up camp at Daytona International Speedway, meticulously taking apart and rebuilding the Porsche 911 GT3 R in anticipation of the long week ahead.

The Roar Before the 24 provided competitors with varying weather conditions, in preparation for what is always an unpredictable race in Daytona, Florida in January. Current weather predictions promise rain for each day leading up to the race, and a low of 33 degrees on Saturday night for the race. With the largest field in recent years, clear weather conditions on race day will be a welcome gift for the competitors hoping to steer clear of contact throughout the entirety of the event.

IMSA Radio’s comprehensive coverage will begin with the first practice session and run throughout race week. A full event schedule can be found on IMSA’s Rolex 24 event page. The start of the race will air live on Saturday, January 29th, beginning at 1:30 pm Eastern on NBC, and select hours will then air on USA. Flag-to-flag coverage will be found on Peacock the new streaming service for NBC Universal. As usual, the team will offer live coverage on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and all tune-in information is available on wrightmotorsports.com and imsa.com.

DRIVER QUOTES

Ryan Hardwick
What a week at the Roar. Super successful weekend for our team. We advanced with the car throughout each session. The car just kept getting better and better and was at its best in the qualifying race. I was able to make up a couple of positions and felt really good. Got the car in to Jan very cleanly and he went to work. He was amazing. We are really excited about the car we have for the 24. We really look to being competitive for the GTD class win. If Lady Luck and all the stars align, maybe be in the hunt for a Rolex next week.

Jan Heylen
We had a super-fun qualifying race. A good job by Ryan. We all need a bit of time in the car. We didn’t have the opportunity to do a lot of off-season testing because of how late the 2021 season ended, so this race was good to get some laps in and fall into a rhythm. Ryan did a really good first stint and from there it was a fun race. There was a lot of good racing. I think we have a good car for next weekend.

Zacharie Robichon
It has been a great first experience with the Wright Motorsports team. We showed all four drivers are working well together. We have a good starting position. It is good to be working together, hitting all our marks, and being where we want to be. It is a long race but I am excited to get started.

Richard Lietz
We had a positive weekend. The main goal was to build up confidence, find the car balance for day conditions, night conditions, also if it rains the car is able to handle the rain tires and every driver is happy. I think we achieved our goal. We are quite well prepared. It was good for me so that I could see how the race is going to be: listening to the engineers and the spotters and getting used to the championship. Now we will try and relax a bit and get ready for the big one.

BRODY ROA RETURNS TO THE SITE WHERE HE WON HIS FIRST 410 FEATURE

Brody Roa in action at the end of last season at Perris Auto Speedway. Doug Allen photo.

(Cypress, CA, January 25, 2022) This Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, January 27th through the 29th, Southern California Sprint car racing veteran Brody Roa will return to a track that holds a fond memory for him. The track is Arizona’s Cocopah Speedway and this week it hosts the USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series’ first three races of the year. Ten years ago this coming June, Roa, then only 21 years old, scored his first-ever 410 sprint car win when the series raced on the same track.

Roa, who turned 31 today, first competed on the “Copper State” track in a 360-sprint car a month prior to his attention-grabbing initial 410 win. He has not been back to Cocopah since the series contested two races there in 2013. That makes it four races total for the friendly driver on the beautiful 3/8-mile racing facility that is 10-miles north of the Mexican border.

“Yeah, it doesn’t seem like it was that long ago,” the Garden Grove, California resident said when reminded how much time had passed since that first win. “Really it seems like just yesterday. From the same point, it seems like the last time we were at Cocopah (2013) was ages ago.”

Since that win, a lot has changed in sprint car racing and in the life of the now-married father of a 17-month-old little girl.

“Probably nothing,” Roa stated when asked what he can use from that win for this week’s races. “I am obviously a different driver the last nine or 10 years. The cars are different, and we are not even on the same tire anymore. But we found our notebook from 2012 and found out what gear we ran. So, I guess we will take something from 10-years ago to this year.”

Since the series has not been to Cocopah since 2013, all the drivers are pretty much coming into the event on a level playing table. In fact, many of the current drivers were not part of USAC/CRA when the troupe last appeared there. Roa is one of the drivers who remembers the track fondly.

“I did 10-years ago,” Roa quipped when asked if he liked the Cocopah track. “Really, I am excited to go back there. I have wanted to go back since the last time we were there. The last time it went rubber down on like lap three, so it was not a whole lot of fun that time. But the track itself is fun and the casino across the street is cool.”

The makeup of Roa’s #91R team will certainly be different this time around. The time he won there, it was a total family effort.

“When we won in 2012, it was just me, my dad, my grandpa, and my Uncle B,” Roa said. “Zac was not around (Zac Bozanich, now Roa’s award-winning crew chief) and I did not even know Joe (longtime crewman Joe Gibb) yet. It was just myself and my family.”

Roa goes into the 2022 season after a successful year in 2021. Of the 28 sprint car races he started last year, he won four of them, finished in the runner-up spot four times, and placed third six times. He ended up with 17 top-five finishes and 21 top 10s. The only series he ran for points in last season was the USAC/CRA Series where he ended up second in the championship standings.

Roa fans who want to watch “The Pride of Garden Grove” in person this week, can find Cocopah Speedway at 3450 West County 15th Street, in Somerton, Arizona (85350). Spectator gates will open at 4:00 p.m. each day with USAC/CRA cars on the track for hot laps at 6:00. Racing and qualifying will follow. The track phone number is 602-292-7607 and the website is http://www.racecocopahspeedway.com/.

For fans who cannot make it to Arizona for the race, all three nights will be shown on https://speedsport.tv/.

Brody Roa merchandise is available online. You can see it all in his store which is packed with great items including t-shirts, sweatshirts, caps, beanies, baby onesies, plush blankets, jigsaw puzzles, stickers, notebooks, tote bags, wine tumblers, mugs, bandana pet collars, and more. To check it out, please visit the following website https://www.brodyroa.com/shop/.

Roa and the team want to thank the following sponsors for making the 2022 season possible. HD Industries, Burris Racing, Sander Engineering, Inland Rigging, “Biker” Bruce Fischer, Competition Suspension, ALR Virtual Services, K-1 Race Gear, Molecule, Rod End Supply, and Baldwin Filters. In addition, the veteran driver offers thanks to RDM Mechanics, Fastenal, Coopers Propane, Ten West Towing, Ten West Environmental, TJM Distribution, and Westco International for sponsoring the #8M he will pilot for Jayson May on select occasions in 2022.

If you or your company would like to jump on board and receive recognition as a team partner throughout the 2022 racing season, please give the two-time USAC champion racer a phone call or drop him a note at the contact information on the top of this release. You can also contact him if you would like him to drive your sprint car or midget when his West Coast schedule permits.

Simple Tips for Maintaining Your Vehicle

Photo by Adrian Dascal on Unsplash

We all know that cars are expensive. No one wants to spend a lot of money on something that they don’t use every day and will eventually trade-in for a new model. But it’s not always necessary to go out and buy the best car wash soap or wax or take your car in for an oil change every other week. There are some things you can do yourself with just a little of time and attention each month! Here are some easy tips for making sure your vehicle lasts as long as possible:

1) Keep up with regular maintenance like changing the oil or rotating tires

It’s important to keep up with regular car maintenance. By changing the oil and rotating the tires, you can help preserve the life of your vehicle. Not only is it cheaper in the long run to do it yourself, but it’s also easier than taking your car in for a tune-up. Just follow these simple tips and you’ll be on your way to a longer-lasting car!

There are a few basic car maintenance tasks that you can do yourself to help keep your vehicle in good condition. Changing the oil, rotating the tires, and washing the car are all simple things that you can do to preserve the life of your car. Not only will it save you money in the long run, but it’s also a good way to make sure your car stays in good shape.

If you’re not sure how to do these things, there are plenty of tutorials online that can walk you through the process. And if you’re still not comfortable doing it yourself, you can always take your car in for a tune-up. Just make sure to budget for it!

2) Keep your car clean inside and out

Maintaining a clean vehicle doesn’t have to be time-consuming or expensive. Give the interior of your vehicle a good cleaning once a month, including vacuuming, shampooing the carpet, scrubbing stains on seats with soap and water, wiping up spills immediately, washing the windows inside and out, and cleaning the dashboard. Also, make sure to take your car through a car wash at least once a month. If you live in a cold climate where it’s impossible to wash your car every month, keep a bucket of water and a few microfiber cloths in your trunk so you can give it a quick wipe down any time.

It’s important to keep up with regular car maintenance and give your vehicle a good cleaning. Keeping up with these simple things can help preserve the life of your car, as well as save you time and money in the long run. And taking your car through a car wash at least once a month will make sure you don’t damage the exterior

You can also bring your car to a shop offering car detailing services. The shop can clean the whole car, remove tar and grime, take out impurities in the paint, and ensure the car will look great.

3) Check fluid levels every month

You should also check the levels of different car fluids every month, such as oil and wiper fluid, and top them up if they’re low. It’s important to check your vehicle’s fluid levels every month.

Adding up-to-date fluids is an easy way to preserve the life of your car and avoid expensive repairs in the future. By checking and topping off your oil levels, for example, you can help prevent damage to the engine.

4) Test out brakes and lights regularly

If you see your brake light come on while driving or your brakes feel a little spongy when you press down on them, it’s time to take your car in for a brake inspection or brake service.

It’s important to test out the brakes and lights in your vehicle regularly. If you see your brake light come on while driving, or if the brakes feel spongy when pressed down, it’s time to take your car to a mechanic for an inspection or servicing.

It is tough to predict when parts of your vehicle will break down, so it’s best to be safe and check on things regularly. It might cost a little more at the mechanic, but you’ll save money in the long run by catching potential problems before they become major ones!

5) Keep your tires inflated properly

Not only is it important to keep your car clean inside and out, but it’s also important to keep up with regular car maintenance. One of these regular car maintenance tasks is checking the tire pressure.

It may seem like a simple task that doesn’t need to be done regularly, but keeping your tires inflated properly can help your vehicle last longer and prevent accidents. For every month you don’t check your tires, you’re putting about 10 extra pounds of pressure on them, and that can wear them out much faster.

Maintaining your car is important for preserving its life and ensuring your safety on the road. It’s not difficult to do, but it does require some regular attention. Just follow these simple tips and you’ll be able to keep your car in good condition without spending too much money!

GMS Racing Announces 2022 NCWTS Crew Chief Pairings for Grant Enfinger and Jack Wood

Statesville, NC – GMS Racing is proud to announce its NASCAR Camping World Truck Series crew chief pairings ahead of the upcoming season. The two-time championship winning team plans to run two full-time entries in 2022, with the No. 23 driven by veteran Grant Enfinger and the No. 24 driven by Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender Jack Wood.

Grant Enfinger’s No. 23 Champion Power Equipment Chevrolet Silverado will be led by Charles Denike, who has two NCWTS victories under his belt. Charles spent nearly ten years in the US ARMY as an engineer before making the decision to chase after a career in motorsports. Denike has been a key part of the team since 2016, and most recently called the shots for Tyler Ankrum during the 2021 season. Notably, both of his wins as a crew chief have been delivered by drivers in GMS Racing Silverados at Charlotte Motor Speedway (Chase Elliott) and Bristol Motor Speedway (Sam Mayer).

“The 2022 race season is a great opportunity for Grant and I, and we both plan to make the most of it. We have assembled a new team and the energy is high. We have the common goal to return to victory lane and contend for the championship at Phoenix Raceway at the end of the season. With the great support from Champion Power Equipment behind our team, I feel that we are more ready than ever to chase after our goals.” said Denike.

Jack Wood’s No. 24 Chevrolet Silverado will be led by veteran NASCAR crew member and longtime GMS employee, Tom Ackerman. Ackerman has played an integral role within the GMS Racing campus, most recently serving as the team’s Technical Director. As a crew chief, Tom has called the shots for numerous NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series veterans over the years.

“This year is going to be one of the most crucial years of Jack Wood’s young career. I am excited to work with him in his first full season, and am especially looking forward to returning to some of the tracks that he raced at for our team last year. Jack is young and hungry, and it is going to be a fun opportunity to see what he is capable of with the additional track time in practice and qualifying sessions. I believe that we have a shot to contend for some solid finishes throughout the season.” remarked Ackerman.

Denike and Ackerman will work alongside fellow GMS Racing crew chief Chad Bryant (ARCA Menards Series No. 43 Chevrolet SS driven by Daniel Dye) along with Petty GMS Motorsports crew chiefs Jerame Donley (NASCAR Cup Series No. 42 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 driven by Ty Dillon) and Dave Elenz (NASCAR Cup Series No. 43 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 driven by Erik Jones) and as the powerhouse team continues to build its legacy across the NASCAR garages.

CURE Token Teams up with Kaulig Racing and Noah Gragson

Gragson to Drive the No. 16 CURE Token Camaro ZL1 at Fall Kansas Race

LEXINGTON, N.C. (January 25, 2022) – Kaulig Racing and Noah Gragson will team up with charity-based cryptocurrency, CURE Token, during Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month at Kansas Speedway.

CURE Token was created by Jacob Beckley to raise awareness for childhood cancer and help families touched by it. Backed by the Beckley Foundation, CURE Token’s mission is to bring awareness to childhood cancers, fund cancer research, and directly support families affected by pediatric cancer. As CURE grows, Jacob also hopes to use the power of blockchain technology to completely revolutionize healthcare as we know it.

“Partnering one of the most well-recognized sports in the world with pediatric cancer, this collaboration is a reminder of what happens when people come together for a great cause,” said Jacob Beckley, Founder of CURE Token. “The Beckley Foundation, CURE Token, and Gragson are working to further the mission of supporting pediatric cancer research and bringing awareness to the devastating consequences of cancer. Pediatric cancer goes well beyond its patient, it affects the families, friends, and communities. CURE Token aims to lessen those affects with the hope that, one day, we will not be defined by the word cancer.”

Earlier this week, the team announced Gragson’s part-time NASCAR Cup Series (NCS) schedule at Kaulig Racing, which will include 14 events throughout the 2022 season. CURE token has signed on for the fall event at Kansas Speedway on September 11.

“I am humbled to represent CURE Token and to work with Founder Jacob Beckley and the Beckley Foundation,” said Gragson. “It is an honor to represent a crypto company and foundation that supports such a great cause. Helping raise awareness for pediatric cancer is very important to me and the entire Kaulig Racing team. I look forward to racing the CURE Token No. 16 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 at Kansas Speedway in the fall of 2022.”

The partnership with CURE Token has extra special meaning for Kaulig Racing team owner, Matt Kaulig, whose involvement with Akron Children’s Hospital earned him the title of the 2020 Champion for Children Award.

“Our new-found partnership with CURE Token is one that is special to me for many reasons,” said team owner, Matt Kaulig. “The fight against pediatric cancer is one that is near and dear to me. I’m excited to be able to continue bringing awareness to this cause through CURE Token.”

Kaulig Racing’s No. 16 CURE Token Camaro ZL1 will compete in the Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway during Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month.

Danny Bohn Joins Young’s Motorsports for Truck Series Opener at Daytona with Support from North American Motor Car

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (January 25, 2022): Young’s Motorsports confirmed today that NASCAR Whelen Modified standout and veteran NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) driver Danny Bohn will join the team for next month’s season-opener at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway.

The 33-year-old Bohn will pilot the No. 20 Chevrolet Silverado with support from North American Motor Car.

North American Motor Car is a premier destination for automotive enthusiasts in the Northeast, offering world-class services including custom restoration, maintenance, upholstery repair, professional detailing, aftermarket accessory installation, storage and automotive shipping and receiving for exotic and classic cars, hot rods, 4x4s, and motorcycles.

Bohn’s relationship with the team is currently a one-race agreement with a vision to increase his schedule in 2022. He will complete the organization’s lineup for the Feb. 18 NextEra Energy Resources 250 joining previously announced drivers Spencer Boyd and Jesse Little.

“I am very excited about joining Young’s Motorsports for Daytona,” said Bohn. “Time and time again Young’s Motorsports have shown that they build very fast Chevrolet Silverados for the superspeedway races and I am excited to be able to drive one of them next month at Daytona.

“Young’s Motorsports is the most recent superspeedway winner in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and I definitely want to do my part to help keep that statistic alive working alongside my teammates Spencer (Boyd) and Jesse (Little).”

Bohn rose into prominence in 2012 when he earned NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour championship runner-up, Rookie of the Year and Most Popular Driver honors. Bohn followed that up with the 2014 modified track championship at the famed Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C. A Bohn winning races is nothing new. Both Bohn’s grandfather, Parker Bohn, and father, Eddie Bohn, are legendary drivers and mechanics from New Jersey.

The Freehold, N.J. native has 33 Truck Series starts to his resume, including four top-10 finishes, most recently at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway last October where he finished eighth after starting 23rd in a truck also backed by North American Motor Car.

“We love Danny, Daytona and NASCAR, and have always been a huge supporter of the racing culture and lifestyle,” said COO and co-founder of North American Motor Car Andy Hill. “I know I am really looking forward to watching Danny and the No. 20 Chevrolet Silverado race at Daytona next month. It’s going to be exciting!”

“I am so happy to have our Daytona lineup finalized,” offered Young’s Motorsports team principal Tyler Young. “All three of our drivers are extremely excited and very experienced when it comes to superspeedway racing. Their knowledge, passion, focus and motivation will be a huge benefit for our organization.

“We’ve proven to be winners in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and are determined return to Victory Lane – it would be incredibly special to pull that off in the season-opener at Daytona! We look forward to seeing what our team can accomplish, not only at Daytona but throughout the 2022 season.”
