Orlin Alexiev did not participate, but awarded the winners in “Samokov Trophy 2021”

Delay of the new car prevented him from taking part in the race, but he was the one awarding this year’s winners.

The third round of the National Off-Road Championships in Bulgaria finished in Samokov. Bulgaria’s most successful representative for the Dakar Rally, Orlin Alexiev, was unable to start due to a delay in the delivery of his new machine and failed to make the planned tests. However, he awarded the winners in the Rally category and told fans and competitors about his future plans.

The final races and the awarding ceremony at the Rido Motor Park were watched by more than 5000 spectators in the fine Sunday weather. The start of the race was given by the Mayor of the Municipality of Samokov Vladimir Georgiev. 53 cars from Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Romania, and Greece stood in the city centre for the ceremony. Organizers from the local club “Motor Sport Samokov” prepared over 500 racing kilometers for the three days.

The race is part of the sports calendar of the Automobile Federation of Bulgaria and is supported by the Municipality of Samokov.

In the heaviest prototypes, Daniel Gospodinov and Ivan Penchev overcame the strong competition from Kazakhstan, Turkey, and Greece, and in the fastest rally category debutants, Metodi Paunov / Vladi Radenkov were unreachable with their perfect navigation and high average speed. In the standard cars, Emil Dimitrov / Andon Andonov from Petrich were a pleasant surprise with their victory, and in the hard standard cars, father and son Tsvetan and Kaloyan Naidenov with the Jär Cherokee were again unreachable in this race with their perfect navigation and high average speed.

For the first time in this race the automatic system for satellite tracking with results processing website developed by the Varna company EasyTrасking, was successfully presented, and on the last day the system was attacked by hackers, but the delay was only 15 minutes.

In the hard stages of the first day, 5 crews failed to finish, but after fixing the faults they were able to participate in the second day of the race.

The last round is in the vicinity of Rousse from 26 to 28 November, this is when the champions and the winners of the rally will be revealed.

How To Consistently Observe Due Diligence On The Road

Vehicles driving down highway seen through the side view mirror of a white sportscar.

There are traffic accidents every day. Most drivers believe they’re cautious and follow all traffic laws, but they’re unaware of other minor details that they overlook or fail to notice, putting them in danger. Take extra precautions while driving and keep an eye out for other drivers and road users. This will save both your life and the lives of other motorists.

This article will go over a few things to think about when it comes to maintaining due diligence while driving.

1. Carry Out Simple Safety Checks

Simple checks can save your life. Otherwise, you could be driving a defective vehicle without even realizing it. It’s a good idea to double-check your car’s lights and signals to ensure they’re all operational.

Break lights are important because they alert the driver behind you that you want to slow down or come to a complete stop to avoid colliding with them. It’s also critical to check your tire pressures and make sure they’re all at the recommended maximum. Inspect the undercarriage of your vehicle for leaks and loose objects. While you’re at it, double-check that your steering wheel isn’t loose and that your seat belts aren’t stuck.

These are simple things that people often overlook, but they contribute to the increasing number of accidents.

2. Check Mirrors And Seatbelts Before Igniting Your Car

Check your mirrors and seat position before starting your vehicle. The person who drove it before you may not have used the same position as you. Adjust both mirrors to see more of what’s behind you, and your blind spots will be reduced. Check that your seat is comfortable and that you can see in your mirrors. Once everything is in working order, you can start your vehicle.

3. Don’t Use Mobile When Driving

Using your phone while driving can be dangerous, but many people disregard this risk. When you use your phone while driving, you increase your chances of being involved in an accident. Most drivers fail to recognize that using a phone while driving requires complete concentration, causing you to take your mind and eyes off the road.

If you believe something urgently requires your attention, it’s best to park your vehicle and attend to your phone, then resume driving when finished. If you’re a passenger and your driver is on the phone, tell them to put the phone down. And if there’s anything you can do to help, do it.

4. Don’t Overspeed

High-speed driving puts you in danger. Ensure that you adhere to the posted speed limits on the road. On the freeway, you can go a little faster, but stay alert at all times. If you’re driving in a small town or a congested area, keep your speed down to a minimum.

5. Practice Defensive Driving

Driving defensively prepares you for major risks and hazards. When you’re alert while driving, it’s easy to spot potential hazards. And once you’ve seen them, you can react quickly.

Here are some defensive strategies that you might find useful:

  • Don’t go too quickly.
  • Keep an eye out for the intentions of other drivers.
  • Be prepared to react to other drivers.
  • Even if you have the right of way, proceed with caution at intersections.
  • Maintain your focus on the road.
  • Be certain that there are no distractions.

6. Watch Out For The Other Drivers

You may be a careful driver who obeys all traffic laws and drives at a low speed with no distractions, but you must be aware of other drivers. Unexpected stops, swerving, unsignaled turns, and poor driving are to be expected. It pays to be on the lookout.

When drivers assert that they’re correct, it’s preferable to apologize rather than argue with them. Being a fool can keep you out of a lot of trouble.

7. Look Ahead And Don’t Follow Closely

When driving, you must maintain complete concentration on the road. Pay attention to what’s going on around you and react with caution. Always look ahead to see if you can accelerate, decelerate, or come to a complete stop.

Because it’s difficult to predict the intentions of the driver in front of you, it’s best to maintain a safe distance. Maintain a safe distance between yourself and the other driver so you have enough time to react if the other driver makes an unexpected turn or stop.

It’s recommended to leave a three-second gap or the length of a car. The speed at which you’re traveling will assist you in determining how wide of a gap you should leave. For example, if your speed is 45 km/h, you should leave a three-car gap. If the driver in front of you passes an object, wait for three seconds before passing it yourself; but at night, wait at least seven seconds. This will keep you from colliding with the vehicle in front of you.

Conclusion

Nobody can ever be completely safe on the road. But after reading this article, you should have some ideas for how to stay safe on the road. Following these can help reduce the likelihood of a collision. Road rules and other safety precautions must be observed.

Bridget Burgess Finishes Off Tough Season at Phoenix Raceway

TOOELE, UT, November 9, 2021 – Bridget Burgess and BMI Racing loaded up the HMH Construction Chevrolet SS for the last time in 2021 and headed to Phoenix Raceway for the final race of the ARCA Menards West Series. The ARCA West race is a part of NASCAR’s Championship Weekend and held in conjunction with NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Cup Series.

The day started early with the team entering the track at 5:30am, unloading the race car and heading straight to the tech inspection area. The practice/qualifying session started mid-morning and Bridget got straight to it. The series had brought a different compound tire to this round and for many of the west teams, it was the first time using them. At the end of the session, Bridget qualified 26th out of 34 cars.

The green flag waived signaling the start of the Arizona Lottery 100, and the field roared across the start/finish line. Bridget put in a solid effort throughout the race, avoiding trouble and making gains where she could, ultimately finishing the race in 24th.

The 2021 season delivered mixed results for Bridget and her HMH Construction Chevrolet SS, with top highlighting moments from Sonoma Raceway and Portland Raceway driving her way up into the top 5, to heartbreaking moments being on the receiving end of rough driving, as well as component failures.

Unlike many of the teams that Bridget competes against, BMI Racing has just one car for the season, that is primarily more suited to road course racing. Bridget along with her dad Adam Burgess, mom Sarah Burgess, as well as close friends Victor Franco and Samantha Penny sacrificed many hours in the race shop either making repairs to the car or switching it from an oval setup to a road course setup. Bridget wraps up the season as the only female driver to complete a full ARCA Menards series schedule and with two Top 10 finishes, and 9th in the ARCA Menards West Series Championship points standing.

A replay of the Arizona Lottery 100 will broadcast on NBCSN on Thursday, Nov. 11, starting at 5 p.m. ET.

Front Row Motorsports Ends Historical 2021 Season

Ready to Continue to Build on Success with Next Gen Car

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (November 9, 2021) – Front Row Motorsports (FRM) ended their 2021 season this past weekend at the Phoenix Raceway. Michael McDowell, Anthony Alfredo and Todd Gilliland completed an historical year for FRM that featured a Cinderella-story Daytona 500 win and its first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series victory.

Beyond the organizations two wins, FRM earned continued respect on the track through its most top-10 finishes ever in the NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. McDowell and the No. 34 Ford Mustang team led the way in the Cup Series with five top-10 and two top-five results. McDowell ended the year 16th in the championship.

Gilliland led FRM to a new high mark in its second year in the truck series. The team dominated the field at the inaugural event at the Circuit of The Americas and also earned 16 top-10 and 10 top-five finishes to end the season seventh in the championship standings.

“We are very pleased with the progress that both our programs made on the track this season,” said Jerry Freeze, General Manager, Front Row Motorsports. “We feel our organization took another step in being more competitive and giving more value to our partners. We still need more consistency, but we can’t take anything away from the success and hard work from the organization this year. We’re very proud of that effort.”

Moving into 2022, FRM will continue its efforts in the NASCAR Cup Series and will field the No. 34 and No. 38 Ford Mustangs. The organization continues to analyze its NASCAR Camping World Truck Series operation and Anthony Alfredo will explore other opportunities.

“We would like to thank Anthony for being an outstanding ambassador of our team as well as for our No. 38 partners,” said Freeze. “He showed a lot speed in what was very difficult circumstances. He is a true professional and we wish him nothing but success in his future racing endeavors.”

FRM will make further driver and partner announcements when finalized as the team continues to build it’s fleet of Next Gen Mustangs and prepares to test on the track.

“We will have a very busy next three months as we build for 2022,” concluded Freeze. “Our men and women are working hard as we usher in the next generation of NASCAR. It’s an exciting time and we are embracing the challenge and excitement.”

Sheehan Finishes Top Ten in 2021 TA2 Championship Following COTA Finale

Austin, TEXAS – November 9, 2021 – New Hampshire’s Tom Sheehan had the consolation of a top ten finish overall in the Drivers’ Classification in the TA2 Class coming in P9 overall on the season. The Damon Racing LTK Mustang saw a particularly challenging final round to the 2021 Trans Am presented by Pirelli Championship at Circuit of the Americas on November 7.

A huge field assembled for the National finale to the season with 52 cars taking part in practice, 49 involved in qualifying and a whopping 51 on the grid for the start of the race. Tom, with only one clean real lap at speed completed prior to the feature race, put the No. 97 Damon Racing LTK Insulation Technologies Ford Mustang in P14 for official qualifying in the enormous field. However, a switch to a Chevrolet motor proved a huge disappointment for Tom and the team. After a good race start, engine problems continued forcing multiple trips to pit and then to retire. The consolation for Tom and the team is that in spite of the disappointing conclusion to the 2021 campaign, he retained his place at P9 overall in the National Championship table in a 64-car strong field.

“It was a tough weekend for our guys. Nobody feels satisfied,” said Tom after getting out of the car. Going into more detail about what caused his early retirement from the race he added, “We switched the car over to the Chevy Choice engine program, the engine platform that the Series is tipping the field towards. We struggled with reliability pretty much straight out of the trailer. We got one decent lap in qualifying to get us into the race but the motor was running on seven cylinders, sometimes six.”

“We had a good start but I knew the motor was not good. We worked on a fix under the cautions but the motor just laid down. We pitted giving up track position, trying to stay on the lead lap, we knew without a fix I was just going to fall back more in the race.”

The Damon Racing crew had an impossible job trying to make running repairs to the engine itself during the race as Tom explained, “We pitted but it’s really tough to work on stuff with the engine smoking hot. People get burned. They’d have cut their arm off to make that car run. It’s not on them. We’ve had no time for testing and it wasn’t ready for us to present here. Sometimes it goes that way. It’ll be a long ride back for everybody.”

Tom and the Damon Racing team now have just over three months to get a disappointing 2021 forgotten with the 2022 season set to start in Florida on February 24 at Sebring with the Sebring SpeedTour. #GoLTK!

CORVETTE RACING AT PETIT LE MANS: No Small Challenge

· Chevrolet on brink of 14th GT Manufacturers title in IMSA
· Garcia, Taylor set to complete back-to-back GTLM championships
· Tandy, Milner enter on three-race win streak in No. 4 Corvette C8.R
· Full Corvette Racing lineup for 10-hour close to 2021 season

DETROIT (Nov. 9, 2021) – Corvette Racing closes out the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season – and the last race for the GT Le Mans (GTLM) category – this weekend with Petit Le Mans from Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.

The 10-hour endurance race – the program’s 250th event all-time – will serve as a Corvette Racing celebration as the race’s green flag will officially bring another sweep of the GTLM Manufacturers, Drivers and Team championships to Chevrolet and Corvette Racing for the second year in a row.

On the strength of seven wins and nine straight pole positions, Chevrolet will lock up its 14th Manufacturers Championship in IMSA GT racing since 2001. Four of those victories came via Antonio Garcia and Jordan Taylor, teammates in the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C8.R. The duo, teaming with Nicky Catsburg at Road Atlanta, only need to start the race to wrap up their second straight GTLM title and consecutive Team championships for the No. 3 Corvette.

Tommy Milner and Nick Tandy will secure second in GTLM points once they start the race in the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette. They’ll team with Alexander Sims at Road Atlanta.

In addition to the full-season GTLM titles, Corvette Racing and Chevrolet also lead the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup standings in the Manufacturers, Drivers and Team categories. Points are awarded at the four-, eight- and 10-hour marks. The two Corvettes and their drivers are 1-2 in the standings while Chevy leads the Manufacturers race by two points.

Corvette Racing has eight class wins at Petit Le Mans and is seeking its first win at Road Atlanta since 2010. It would be a fitting end to the GTLM era as the program has more wins (29) than any other entrant in the class since its debut in 2014.

Taylor, Tandy and Sims each have previous victories to their credit in Petit Le Mans; Tandy leads all current IMSA drivers with four career wins in the event.

Chevrolet on Display at Road Atlanta
Chevrolet’s presence at Petit Le Mans will be evident in the Fan Zone area of Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. A must-see for any fan is the immersive Chevrolet Motorsports Display that will be open to fans throughout the weekend. Located at the infield vendor area of the circuit, the Chevrolet Motorsports Display will be full of Chevrolet vehicles and items that spectators can learn more about during a busy event.

The Chevrolet Motorsports Display opens at 8 a.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The feature attraction is the 2023 Corvette Z06, which was revealed only weeks ago with worldwide acclaim. Additional Chevrolet vehicles and other highlights include:

• A Corvette Racing C8.R showcar
• A 2022 Corvette Stingray IMSA GTLM Championship Edition coupe
• Additional Chevrolet products such as the Camaro ZL1, Blazer RS, Silverado Trail Boss and Tahoe RST
• A special display with various Corvette Racing artifacts including past driver firesuits and credentials, assorted gearbox components and steering wheel
• An opportunity to receive a Team Chevy T-shirt

Petit Le Mans is scheduled for 12:10 p.m. ET on Saturday, November 13 from Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. The live television broadcast begins at noon ET on NBC followed by 7.5 hours of coverage on NBCSN from 3 to 10:30 pm. ET. The full race will stream on TrackPass and NBC Sports Gold. Live IMSA Radio coverage will air on XM 202, SiriusXM Online 992 and IMSA.com, which also will host live timing and scoring.

ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R: “I personally really want to win this race really bad! This is something about Petit Le Mans – apart from last year – always being the last race. You usually play it a little different. There were many years where we were contesting for the championship. Your approach was a little different compared to how you raced at Daytona and Sebring, where you are all-out to win the race. Here in the past, we would focus on covering the cars that were in the championship with us. Then there were other cars that weren’t in contention for the championship that would take gambles and go for the win. That’s probably one of the reasons I haven’t won the race although we did win many championships here. I’ll take that. Maybe we didn’t get the glory of the race wins but I have many memories of winning championships. Maybe this year we can do both!”

JORDAN TAYLOR, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R: “We’re in a great position in the championship. We just need to start the race to clinch it. That’s a good feeling. But at the end of the day, Petit Le Mans is its own race and a big deal. Antonio and Nicky haven’t won it yet, so I know it’s at the top of their list. With the championship being pretty much over, it means we can take all the risks we want in the race. It opens up options on track and with strategy, and puts us in a pretty good situation.
“The track at Road Atlanta is unique. It’s narrow, high-speed and has one good racing line. When it comes to traffic with how many classes we have now, it makes it busy. For us, we can be more aggressive and take some risks to overtake cars and not have to worry about points. I think that will work in our favor.”

NICKY CATSBURG, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R: “This definitely is an event we all want to win. Antonio has been here for a long time and has never won it. He keeps mentioning it so there’s a lot of pressure to win it! I’ve not won here either so I’d love to win it as well. Last year we got close but never really had the real pace to beat the winning car. Things feel good. We have had some testing so that we can be more prepared.
“Being in a good spot in the championship definitely takes away a lot of the pressure. I do feel like, especially in IMSA races in the early parts, sometimes I could be a little too aggressive and it’s not so rewarding, especially at the beginning of the race. Every time it will get equalized with the yellows. So even though there is no championship on the line, it’s almost better to be careful early. Toward the end, we can of course push a bit more and take more risks than if you were still racing for the championship.”

TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R: “We’re coming to Petit Le Mans, and it’s the end of GTLM. The future for the GT classes looks better than ever but it would be awesome to send this class off in IMSA with a win for us in the 4 car. I’m sure the 3 car guys would love to be P1 as well. Nick and I have been on a roll here the last couple of races. We’d love to keep that momentum going but as always with Petit Le Mans, it’s always a very challenging race. Ten hours here is very hard. The traffic management is always difficult. It’s no easy task, plus we have the BMWs back for even more competition.
“This track has more of the risk vs. reward benefits. But as you would expect, the biggest risks come with the biggest rewards but also potentially bigger problems. With how IMSA is structured with safety cars, it’s hard to make a lot of time on your competitors. Therefore it’s hard to lose a lot of time as well. That doesn’t play quite as big a role early in the race but certainly late in the race and the last hour, there are opportunities to take bigger risks to get a bigger gap in traffic or close a gap. We’ll have to go off all our years of experience and knowledge of where you can and can’t pass, how the traffic works to the best of our ability.”

NICK TANDY, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R: “Petit Le Mans is a different animal compared to a lot of events. The track is quite short. It being a long race with a lot of classes, there are that many more cars on track at the same time. It’s a lot different than having the same number of cars at a place like Sebring, for example. The event and the race are typically quite fraught, and it’s easy to get mixed up in trouble during the race. The track is fast and lends itself well to multi-class racing. There are different lines you can take, and there are places where cars can co-exist together on-track. But there also are places where it’s easy to get into trouble. So experience matters in this race.
“Petit Le Mans was my first big win and is probably my most successful event in terms of winning a big event. A lot of the time it’s been really kind to me. I enjoy going into the darkness at night for the last couple of hours after starting in the day. The night-time isn’t so long, so if you have a driver that is adaptable, they can often make a difference come the end of the race. Hopefully my success in the past will carry on this year. We’ve also got the Michelin Endurance Cup, which we’ll have an eye on. This is something that the team and all of us would like to get ahold of. Hopefully by Hour Four it should look pretty rosy and we can crack on and start working our way back from the end of the race rather looking ahead of the four- and eight-hour mark.”

ALEXANDER SIMS, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R: “First off, to come back to Road Atlanta and drive this track is a pleasure. It has such a nice mixture of corners – some banking, some slightly off-camber, some crests, high-speed and low-speed stuff, esses… to get the car turned in to all those different types of corners, it’s always nice when you do find that sweet spot. The race itself has been pretty eventful the last couple of times I’ve done it. There is a good mixture of cars in the field, a reasonable scope for yellow flags to bunch the field up and create close racing. Also driving into the night is quite special. There are only a handful of races where you drive in the night during a season. This being one of them is pretty cool when you make that transition. It will get dark earlier this year as well.
“I don’t have a huge amount of understanding the C8.R around this track, but it was nice to be at Road Atlanta to get some experience ahead of the race. It’s been a brilliant year to drive with the team, Nick and Tommy. I’d like to think it was the inspiration that I gave them at Le Mans of the car being able to achieve the fastest lap has pushed them on! I have learned a lot from them about how to extract time out of this car. I’ve really enjoyed every moment.”

NASCAR Announces Competition Format for the Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Nov. 9, 2021) – NASCAR today announced the qualifying elements and race format for the first-ever Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum, the unprecedented 150-lap main event highlighting two days of racing action at the iconic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Saturday, Feb. 5 and Sunday, Feb. 6, 2022.

On Saturday, NASCAR Cup Series competitors will take to the track for practice sessions prior to single car qualifying runs to determine the starting order for the four scheduled heat races. The field will be open to 40 entrants.

On Sunday, on-track action will begin at 5 p.m. ET on FOX, with four 25-lap heat races consisting of 10 cars each. Below is a breakdown on how the heat races will be filled out:

  • The top four fastest qualifiers from Saturday’s single vehicle qualifying session will be on the pole for each heat race, while cars that qualified fifth through eight will make up the other half of the front row in each heat.
  • The remainder of each field will be filled out using this methodology (Ex. – heat one will be made up cars with qualifying positions of one, five, nine, 13, 17, 21, 25, 29, 33, 37).
  • The top four finishers (16 total cars) from each heat race automatically advance through to the Busch Light Clash (8 p.m. ET, FS1), with the winner of heat one winning the pole and the heat two winner earning the outside pole.
  • The winners of heats three and four will fill out the second row, with the remaining order of these 16 cars being determined in the same manner.

The remaining six finishing positions from each heat (24 total cars) that did not advance will continue through to one of two 50-lap Last Chance Qualifying races. Below is a breakdown on how the Last Chance Qualifiers will be filled out:

  • The starting order for these two events will be determined based on finishing positions in the heat races.
  • Those that did not advance from heats one and three will make up the first Last Chance Qualifying race while the second race will be made of up those from heats two and four.
  • The fifth-place finishers from heats one and two will be on the pole in their respective Last Chance Qualifying races. The fifth-place finishers from heats three and four will be on the outside pole.
  • This pattern will continue to fill out 12 cars in each event.
  • The top three finishers (six total cars) from both Last Chance Qualifying races will advance to the Busch Light Clash, filling out positions 17 – 22 of the 23 available positions.

The final spot in the Busch Light Clash is reserved for the driver who finished the highest in the 2021 points standings who does not transfer on finishing position in the heat races or Last Chance Qualifying races.

All other drivers will be eliminated from competition for the remainder of the event weekend.

“There has already been an enormous amount of buzz around next year’s Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum, and we feel that this race format and the accompanying programming throughout the entire weekend will only build on that already established momentum,” said Ben Kennedy, NASCAR senior vice president of strategy and innovation. “The unprecedented nature of this event, coupled with the fact that our sport will be in the spotlight in the middle of downtown Los Angeles, makes this a can’t miss event when we get our 2022 season underway next February.”

“I’ve had the chance to drive on the track through iRacing and make some laps in the NextGen car at Bowman-Gray on a similar layout, and there’s no doubt that this race is going to be awesome,” said Clint Bowyer, longtime former NASCAR Cup Series driver and current FOX Sports analyst. “The different qualifying events and format for the Clash are only going to add to what will be an unforgettable weekend. This is definitely a race you’re not going to want to miss!”

EVENT PREVIEW: Wright’s Championship Fights Come to Petit Le Mans

BATAVIA, Ohio. (November 8, 2021) – After closing out and taking top honors in two SRO America championships last month, three more full-season racing efforts will conclude this weekend for Porsche customer racing team Wright Motorsports this weekend at Road Atlanta. Hungry to take two additional championship titles in the 2021 season, Wright Motorsports will be a fierce team to watch this weekend as the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, Michelin Pilot Challenge, and Porsche Carrera Cup North America Presented by the Cayman Islands conclude this weekend at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.

“Headed into the final event, we have championship titles on the line this weekend and that really speaks to the quality of the series as well as our own team,” said Team Owner John Wright. “Running in three series under the IMSA umbrella requires a great team of people on and off-track to keep everything seamless and successful, and we’ve done it. Our focus will again be to execute as best we can and see how the season ends.”

IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship
The No. 16 1st Phorm Porsche 911 GT3 R has shown its strength all year, finishing on the podium for half of the races to date. With a strong performance during the endurance races, Wright Motorsports heads into the final event of the year leading the Michelin Endurance Cup: a four-race championship of longer races within the existing full season championship. The final points for this effort will be awarded at the four-, eight-, and ten-hour marks of the 10-hour race on Saturday, November 13. Allotments of five, four, three, and two points will be awarded, and Wright currently leads by one point, keeping the championship highly competitive into the final round. Primary drivers Patrick Long and Trent Hindman will once again be joined by endurance addition and longtime Wright Motorsports driver Jan Heylen.

In the overall championship, Wright Motorsports remains mathematically eligible for the title. However, being 279-points behind the leader and with only 385 points (350 for a win, 35 for a pole position) available, the three teams ahead of the Wright operation would have to withdraw from the event early in the race or have significantly poor finishes in order for the team to take the title.

The Motul Petit Le Mans will begin on Sunday, November 13 at 12:10 pm Eastern, with the first three hours airing live on NBC before switching to NBCSN at 3:00 PM Eastern. Fans outside the US can use the IMSA International Coverage guide to check broadcast listings by country.

No. 16 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R
It’s great to be back at it with the finale at the Petit Le Mans. It is such a staple race for IMSA. It was also the first time I ever drove in an endurance sports car race as well [2003, TRG Porsche finishing GT class in fourth-place]. I have great memories at this track but we have a job to do and that is to finish up this season with another podium. The competition will be high, and the field will be stacked. I like our chances with our driver lineup with Jan back in the car. The team has been hitting its marks. It is going to be a great afternoon of racing with a little extra time in the dark so that will play into the strategy as well. We will need to be upfront all day if we want to be in a position to fight for a win so we will be executing on that plan. I am excited to get after it.

Trent Hindman
No. 16 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R
With Petit Le Mans being one of the marquee events on the IMSA calendar, it inherently brings the best out of every team that takes on the challenge. Ten hours on a short, balls to the wall racetrack like Road Atlanta is no easy task. The 1st Phorm/Wright Motorsports team has been a strong threat to win every single race this year thanks to the quality of equipment underneath and execution of the team supporting us. We’ve got one more great opportunity to bring it home together in ’21. I’d like to think the odds are overwhelmingly in our favor if we continue the job that we’ve been doing.

Jan Heylen
No. 16 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R
I’m really looking forward to competing in the Porsche 911 GT3 R again this weekend. It’s a big weekend for Porsche and Wright, having the chance to win two championships in GT4 and the WeatherTech Endurance championship. It’s not going to be easy, but I think we have the best team, driver lineup, and manufacturer to get it done. I’m super excited to go to Road Atlanta with the team that I’ve been with now for seven years and Patrick, my best friend. Its going to be a special weekend. I hope that for Ryan, the team, Porsche, and 1st Phorm, we can come out on top and add another championship to everyone’s resume. This is definitely one of my favorite, if not my favorite, races of the year.

Michelin Pilot Challenge
Momentum is on the side of the No. 16 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport entering the final GT4-spec race of the season, following Ryan Hardwick and Jan Heylen’s victory at VIRginia International Raceway in October. With the win, the team climbed from third to second place in the point standings, just 30 points behind the championship leaders. With 250 points awarded for a victory, the battle for the 2021 GS class title is down to Wright Motorsports and the two Turner Motorsport BMWs. If Wright Motorsports secures a podium finish, the team will need to be two positions ahead of the No. 95 BMW. If the team does not secure a podium, then they will need to be three spots ahead of the Turner car. With six podium finishes in eight attempts, the Wright Motorsports team has proven to be a strong championship contender heading into the final round.

For Michelin Pilot Challenge, the weekend will conclude with the Fox Factory 120, a two-hour sprint to the end of the 2021 season. Following qualifying on Thursday, November 11 at 4:15 PM Eastern, the field will take the green flag for the final race on Friday, November 12 at 1:10 PM Eastern on IMSA.tv as well as NBC Sports Gold’s TRACKPASS streaming service.

Well, it all comes down to this final race for the Michelin Pilot Challenge championship! To think that our team has a shot to win the title at Road Atlanta is really humbling when you consider that we missed the first race at Daytona entirely. We have fought hard at every single race thereafter and have clawed our way all the way through the highly competitive GS class field to now have a shot at the overall championship. Personally, I couldn’t wish for a better scenario than to compete for an overall championship at my home track, in front of so many friends and family from Atlanta. Our Wright Motorsports team has been in championship form all year, and we are all looking forward to this final race!

Jan Heylen
No. 16 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport
I’m equally excited to race the GT4 effort this weekend. We’ve had an amazing season with a few ups and downs, but it has been super fun fighting back to get back to being second in the championship. It has been a fun season together with Ryan. We’re in a really good place going into the last race with a very good chance of winning the championship, which, being a home race for Ryan, makes it extra special. It has been such good fun racing against everybody and I’m excited to go there and fight it out with the BMW and hopefully continue to do what we’ve been doing all season. The whole weekend is going to be about being consistent and coming out in front of the BMW. I can’t wait. Whatever the outcome, it’s been an amazing experience to do this with Wright Motorsports, Porsche, and Ryan. We hope for the best result, regardless, and I’ve had a really good time this year driving in GT4. Hopefully there’s more to come.

Porsche Carrera Cup North America Presented by the Cayman Islands
The three Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 Cup race cars, driven by John Goetz, Hutton McKenna, and Max Root, will also be finishing the year with ample track time, participating in the final triple-header race event of the year. Each driver of the Wright trio has shown strong growth over the season in the single-make series, earning four podiums and twelve top-five finishes. Looking to end the season on a strong note, the Wright Porsches will put up a good fight for those final podiums of the 2021 season. The first Carrera Cup on-track session will begin on Wednesday, November 10 with two practice sessions before race one and two on Thursday, November 11 at 12:10 pm and 4:45 pm Eastern, respectively. The Carrera Cup season will conclude on Friday morning, with race three at 11:15 am. All three races will stream live on porschecarreracup.us.

Crawford closes 2021 and prepares for new 2022 European Campaign

16-year-old Texan wins eight races in 2021 competing in two championships

HOUSTON (Nov. 2021) – Young American Jak Crawford took major steps toward achieving his dream of competing in Formula One in 2021, spending most of the year in Europe successfully competing in two major open-wheel series.

The 2021 journey began in Portimao, Portugal, with the Red Bull Junior Team driver from Houston on the sidelines on the eve of his 16th birthday, unable to practice, qualify or race due to age restrictions. Less than six months later, Crawford stood atop the Euroformula Open podium, winning his second race of the day at the Barcelona finale.

In between, Crawford spent most of his time hustling back and forth from the race tracks to England, staying close to the Red Bull Racing headquarters in Milton Keynes. Crawford did manage a few short visits back home to the U.S. to see his friends and parents, who alternated visits to see their son at selected races.

“I have been away from the USA for most of the last two years pursuing my Formula One dream,” said Crawford. “These two pandemic years in Europe have been tough on me and my Texas family but we are all committed to the same F1 goal along with Red Bull, who I could not do this without.”

Crawford’s main focus in 2021 was in ultra-competitive FIA Formula 3, where he was the youngest driver in the championship. Driving the No. 10 Hitech Dallara Mecachrome, his best finish of the year was second in Race 1 at Spa Francorchamps as the youngest F3 podium finisher in FIA history, after narrowly missing out on a win at Red Bull Ring with a blown motor.

“I really think a top 10 in points was definitely achievable, but me and the team left some points on the table through the year,” Crawford said of his F3 rookie season. “Maybe with some better luck and fewer mistakes I could have done better, but there were a lot of good things that have me looking forward to next year.”

Missing the opening two races of the Euroformula Open campaign, Crawford celebrated his 16th birthday to wrap up the Portimao weekend starting from the back of the grid. Despite missing an additional two rounds (six races) due to FIA F3 schedule conflicts, his results still powered him to third in the season championship, within striking distance of second.

Crawford won eight of his 16 races in his No. 52 Team Motopark Dallara, winning two of the three races in four of his five full weekends. He won the pole in four out of five qualifying attempts, and scored 12 fastest race laps. Eight of the races won by the drivers ahead of him in the championship points occurred at events Crawford could not attend.

“I will be returning to F3 in 2021 and will also be racing in another winter series, so with my new team and with Red Bull I will be expected to compete for a championship in F3,” Crawford says. “Staying put in the F3 category also gives me a year to catch up to the current age requirements for F2 and F1 since I have been too young at the beginning of each season.”

Crawford has a lot of off-season racing activities and a few weeks of downtime planned over the next few months before the official F3 season starts but he always looks forward to a little time in the USA. With big ambition heading into the new year, the American youngster lays out his long-term plans.

“The path for me is two years in F3, one year in F2 and hopefully the pinnacle of motorsports the following year,” Crawford said. “My goal is be in F1 when I am 18 years old, as the youngest American ever. I cannot control what other Americans older than me are able to do over the next two years, but this is our plan for me.”
